Oil at 8-10k trans fluid every 20k filters always royal purple. Clean the various sensors on the intake on the Romeo. Egr deleted. Did get a new monster built tranny with billet shafts and converter. and rear end from a 2015+ last year with a 3.55 ratio now which the wore out 4.6 isnt happy with at all but its still going waiting on me to finish the new engine.
The 5.4 was phaser locked at 23k kept eating follower bearings which dug into the cam lobes. (variable timing on a fixed lobe single cam was stupid) hadnt eaten a follower as of it getting wrecked few months ago. Same fluid schedule tho.
The 4r75s replaced like clockwork at 250k even pulling trailers.
I use MSD coils and just keep a couple extra in the glove box with extra plugs. Coils typically like to go out in pairs ive noticed also. 4 and 8 as they see the most heat. Fuel filter when I did oil.

@@maurotafoya8415 well actually low oil pressure can cause a tick or rattle in your engine and it will think it’s a knock and retard the timing. On GM trucks low oil pressure is related to the oil pick up o ring. I replaced my o ring in a 2005 avalanche. Went from 10psi oil pressure at idle to 55 psi. The lifter ticking stopped which fixed the knock sensor issue so now it doesn’t retard timing anymore. Picked up 100hp.

They changed him another 375$ to put a cheap 3$ aftermarket battery terminal on. Driving it home it would barely run. When I raised the hood it was just like this truck. Problems everywhere I looked. I have been a tech for 27 years. He is active duty in the military and lives on the other side of the country or I would have fixed it for him. I can't imagine the conversation he had with the owner or the bill he handed him! I can see this video presented in court as the owner sues the previous "mechanic" for Makuloco's repair costs.
I posted before the end... now I see you recommended a replacement engine. Which, if you do work on this, you MUST do, otherwise anything wrong going forward will be on you. That's the problem with repairing a bad mechanics work; you now own it. Smart advice to replace the engine. But then, everything you do is smart! If the air intake is through the fender it is already a cold air system. Those K&N filters are in my opinion crap anyway because they don't filter out near enough crap. If you have a need for more air you got to get a bigger filter and housing. that will safely (for the engine) allow more air through more good filter media. I'd like to see more of this truck and what you fix on it.

When America have China preferred trade status, we opened the floodgates to cheaply priced/made auto parts. Orielly, Napa and Autozone are flooded with this junk. Personally, I’d rather buy the aforementioned aftermarket products for a rebuild that the FoMoCo branded parts.

The cam bearing caps ive seen before. I immediately thought the same thing you did about someone swapping a head and using caps off the old one. Then I really got thinking about it. Whats happened is someone pulled down the head themselves and sent it out to the machine shop to have a valve done or some kind of work, head gets washed at the machine shop but the caps stayed at the mechanics shop. So they probably are the correct caps and their factory stamped for their position. But it is annoying since you can't be sure by looking at it. And I agree the second I saw head gasket dope on it id be calling a new motor. It hurts a bit to look at this kind of work, but working for a dealer you see it a whole lot when people finaly give up and bring it to you. They sell some kit with the complete timing setup for these motors and a lot of people go at it in their driveway and end up shipping the mangled mess off to us after.

I am a 20 year professional technician and I’ve owned a shop for almost 2 years. I have worked for a new car dealership, chain stores and Indy shops. The people running the indy shops and chain stores have this thing in their heads that the dealership parts are super expensive which just isn’t true sure some stuff like converters are more expensive because they actually work but many many parts are actually cheaper at the dealer ive paid 49 dollars for oxygen sensors at the dealer and the part stores wanted 78 bucks. I’ve had gaskets be cheaper at the dealer and I’ll tell u the aftermarket gaskets get super soft and leak and the aftermarket gaskets aren’t always the same size so the gaskets never fit like a dealer gasket. I’ve put aftermarket timing chains next to a dealer timing chain and the aftermarket chains were longer lol and the best part is the timing chain from the dealer was 7 dollars more but it came with new guide bolts! Now that I have my own shop I buy so many parts from the dealer and I don’t have the come backs that other shops have from simple part failures that are totally avoidable. Sure I do buy aftermarket parts I don’t get everything from the dealerships but I only get stuff like brakes, belts, radiators, and stuff like that I buy all engine parts, all electronic parts from the dealer it gets rid of a lot of headaches.

@@ricardomartinez5088 That F150 was the only Ford product that I've owned, and I was really disappointed with the engine, and the fact that it rusted out in record time. My GM products usually have transmission failures, so the engine having a problem was new for me! :)
I would own another Ford someday, but never with that piece of crap 5.4 3-valve engine in it! I can't believe the inherent problems with that engine. Talk about something designed by engineers who never have to maintain the product that they designed....

Good afternoon, Brian. And thanks for your continued production of TH-cam videos on F-150 problems.
With all your experience with Ford F150 engines, would you say that the Coyote 5.0 liter is a better, less problematic, and more durable engine than the 5.4 liter 3 valve?
    Please reply with your comments.
    Thanks!

Rebuilt the engine myself and used OEM timing & valve train components.
Six years later and no issues.
Motorcraft oil & filter change every 3k miles.
