    LISTEN TO THIS GUY..
    I do exactly what he says and bam..
    It's fixed ! Just had too lean code on both banks, he said what to check and boom new maf sensor new air filter and I'm up and running. 5.4 - 300,000 miles and still kicking. And it's the bad motor everybody talks about. He is right, be patient and diagnose the situation. Thanks a thousand times over Bud from my whole family!

    @hutchinson54 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That’s probably the thing I enjoy most about your videos:
    You don’t just start replacing parts and say “Maybe this will work” or “Maybe this will fix it”.
    You actually take the time and do actual diagnosis and do a process of elimination. Part by part, step-by-step. This is the way it should be. But as you already know, a lot of dealerships don’t do that. They just start replacing parts and hope that it’ll fix the problem. Keep up the good work.

    I have the same code popping up P0345. I changed the CamShaft sensor, no luck... I pulled the VCT solenoid and cranked the engine just like you did... Still gets me the error code. Now... I'm going in to check the phaser. It's been worked on before. Prior owner had some work done on it. I'm fearing they also used aftermarket sub quality parts. Now. I'm going to fix it. Your videos are so helpful. I'm legitimately done taking my cars and trucks to mechanic shops. I get it all done myself now with the help of Hanes and Chilton books plus your videos. Thank you!

    We have similar problems at the plant where the 5.0L is built. If the exhaust VCT isn't installed correctly it will ruin the VCT and nose of the cam when it goes through the machine that checks the timing. I said all that just to agree that if you don't install the VCT correctly and torque it properly you're wasting your time and money. Great video and i agree with another commenter that this guy is thorough and explains what to look for and what not to do on certain repairs.

    I absolutely love your videos. I have a 2007 f150 and it had that infamous tick. I replaced all ruler followers, And slack adjusters but a new milling oil pump and had to do the timing because the right hand bank had slop in the chain. I didn't realize how easy it was to do the timing on a 5.4 3 valve. While I was in there, I did a phaser lockout as well because I don't like how prone they are to fail. Since doing all that it runs great. I just need to get a tune now to make up for the phaser Lockouts

      @michaelbenoit248 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you’re having issues w these things, it’s time for a good quality reman crate motor, don’t waste your time with the cam phasers, they would be working if there was oil pressure, & because they’re not they’re garbage along with the motor.
      Grenade the motor then drop a crate motor in it not from the crap yard that’s not a 3v & it’ll be fine.

    Great diag! It seems like I won't see these 3valves for a while then all of a sudden they start coming in one after another, at my age of 56 and working on so many different car lines I definitely need a refresher in these engines from time to time. Down here in South Louisiana we don't have to deal with rust and most of these trucks are in good shape, but if I can learn any thing about any vehicle especially these engines I'm all ears. I'm one of the few shops that will work on these engines, a lot of the other shops have been burned on them so they won't touch them. Great video looking forward to the next one!

      That is an oil pressure and volume issue. If you are sure everything was installed properly and the pan has been cleaned out with no startup rattle then I recommend performing a crankshaft end play check. If ok then use 5w-30 oil, if the concern is still there then use Rotella 5w-40 oil.

    I can really use your help on this! I have a 2004 Ford F-150 with 155,000 miles on it around 100,000 miles the timing was done on it the full subang with moterctaft parts! At 140,000 my transmission went out, I had it replaced but the transmission shop damaged the transmission lines so all the fluid leaked out 2 days later. They put new lines on it but my motor was running really rough and it was indicative of cam phasers. Took it to the shop and me and the mechanic got into the front end and realized my timing chain has stretched and it broke a guide, we redid the entire timing on it and it’s been driving perfectly until the past few thousand miles, ever since I purchased the truck it’s had a p1000 code and it doesn’t throw a check engine light but that’s not my main problem my problem is I’ll go to work in the morning start up the truck and I see a puff of smoke out the tail pipe for a second and sometimes when I get on the grass smoke will come out, also when I get home and put in in reverse to back up the driveway it starts to run really rough but if I get the rpms above 1500 for a second everything smooths out, it throws a p0022 code and I’m really confused now! What should I look for. It has new camshaft position sensors, new vct things, new spark plugs, and new coil packs! Please help!

    Hello. I'm working on my 08 5.4 3v and getting 345 and 349 codes. I had the timing system replaced but they didn't replace the oil pump. After the fresh oil thinned out, it started the original problem again. Installed mechanical oil gauge and found the pressure dropping down to 12lbs. I decided to do it my self after i saw your timing video. When i removed the chain tension, it jerked a little but didn't jump teeth. The L still lines up with the phaser finger. I have a phone app that shows timing advance and it jumps back and forth from 12 to 26. It does this when cold or hot idle. I already have a new vct solenoid and was going to order a new phaser to replace both while the valve cover is off. With phaser still lining up correctly, could it just be the vct? Always had Chevy vehicles. Learning this ford motor. Thanks for any help you can give me. Awesome videos.

      Dude in Houston after break in oil he started using pennzoil 15w40 and has 380,000 miles and it's hot in Houston
      Those 3v operate on clean oil, change oil and filter, don't go 6000 miles on synthetic oil
      I use pennzoil platinum 5w30 full synthetic and motor craft 820 filter and is quiet and runs perfectly at 140,000 miles, 5w20 is recommended by ford for better fuel mileage to make government EPA happy.
      All these ford techs say 5w30 for thicker oil
      Another thing you can do is when first start of the day is flood mode, hold gas pedal to floor and crank and let oil pressure build and let of pedal and it cranks at 600 rpm

    Same truck and engine, I got rough engine, loss of power, stalling sometimes, constant engine ticking. Codes p0345, p0340, p0300, p0022. Fuel trims and 02 readings all look good. None of those codes are specific for a VVT solenoid. Could I have a bad or clogged solenoid and get the above codes yet no solenoid code? I checked the wiring for the camshaft sensors, look good, continuity checks out, I did the multimeter tests on the sensors (ohms, voltage with metal waved in front of them) they seem to pass all the tests, got some new ones anyway as they are inexpensive, put them in and cleared the codes. I did not drive the truck yet, it is a family members. I did start it up, and it did not sound any different, still has the same ticking. Waiting to hear back from them if it has the same symptoms or if the MIL comes back. As for the ticking, is coming from the driver side. I do not think it is from misfire as it is steady and consistent, not intermittent. Pulled injector plugs one at a time, had same drop in rpm for each, so think no misfire causing the ticking. I checked best I could for an exhaust leak, could feel no leaks anywhere or see any soot. The ticking is much louder when I am under the engine than above the engine that is why I was thinking exhaust leak, maybe I just missed it, or could this be from something bottom side of engine, maybe a piston bearing on the crank shaft? I was going to pull the VVT solenoids and look at them when the truck was here but thought you had to pull the covers to get to them, until I saw your video here, If they bring it back I will pull them and have a look.

    I really appreciate your videos! I did my 2006 3v timing job following your directions and after 65,000 miles the truck is still running great!
    I have a question for you that has me scratching my head. I helped a friend with his 2008 3v and it is not working out and I’m not sure why. He was driving pulling a trailer on the interstate and the oil pressure dropped to zero he shut the engine down and pulled over immediately. The shop he towed it to said he needed a new engine without even looking at it. (I get it but I figured I might help him out if the engine was still okay) I guessed it was the factory oil pump and said we could do a full timing job with a Melling 360. We completed the timing job with all Ford parts (except the oil pump) and there was lots of gunk so I pulled the pan and cleaned the pan and pick up tube. I refilled It with oil and ran it for 10 minutes and then added motor flush and ran it 5 more minutes and dumped the oil and pulled the pan again to hopefully get any other gunk out that was hidden in the oil passages. After this I connected the remote oil pressure gauge and the pressure at idle was around 85 psi. Fast forward to today when we drove it for the first time. It starts and runs smoothly but when driving intermittently it will say check gauges and the oil pressure drops. When that happens we put it in neutral and cut the engine wait a few seconds and restart. On restart the oil pressure is back up. Runs like that for a while teh the oil pressure drops again. We did a drive of about 5 miles and close to the end the check engine light came on and codes p0340 and p0345 showed up. I am thinking something else has fallen down in the pan and is getting stuck in the pickup and when you kill the engine it falls out only to get sucked up again? Would that be a good place to start looking? Is there something else I should look into?

    • @timking1160
      @timking1160 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I went with my gut and pulled the oil pan again and sure enough there were bunches of flakes of gunk that had stuffed off the engine and were being pulled into the pickup tube. I cleaned the pan and pickup tube and reassembled everything. I ran the truck sitting at idle for an hour and pulled the pan again to see what else came out there was a lot less but still some flecks of crud. I put it all back together again and it runs great so far no problems with oil pressure and no codes. I’m going to change the oil in about 1,000 miles and drop the pan when I do. Hopefully this engine is done producing crud.
