When it comes to picking out the perfect melon, I've got a couple of tricks up my sleeve. First off, give it a good 'Knock.' Just tap the surface lightly with your knuckles. You're listening for that deep, hollow sound, which is a sign of ripeness and juiciness. Another trick is to 'Give it a Sniff.' While watermelons might not have a strong scent, ripe honeydew or cantaloupe will give off a sweet aroma. Press lightly near the stem and take a deep whiff. These methods have never let me down in selecting the juiciest melons!
@@bonniesteel5236Thanks, I’m going to try that! I’m terrible at picking out water melon and have been doing the knock test and get the one that is most green! I’ll start looking for big yellow spots and hopefully have to throw out less tasteless watermelon!
I was telling her to "push it's belly button!" It should have a slight give to it. I laughed throughout this video because I was carrying on a conversation with Becky (although she didn't listen to me!) and my husband kept saying "What?" thinking I was talking to him!
Just found you and I think we were split at birth!!! I love to cook, farm and my dogs!! I can’t be trusted going down the pet toy aisle. My daughter came home from college early Thursday night to help me grocery shop and she constantly said, “Mom. Focus.” 😂😂 My heart was so happy seeing your seedlings!!! My mom and I started a greenhouse business 33 years ago with 1 greenhouse and we only sold wholesale for years. But the public kept showing up on our farm so we are now fully retail with 5 stores across the top half of our state and 25 houses on the farm. It’s unbelievably hard work but the absolute BEST job in the world! I’ve had to step back due to a major illness issue but my brother, sister-in-love, nieces and dad still farm wide open, along with a huge host of fabulous employees. God has blessed my family beyond what we could ever deserve or imagine. Raisins and sultanas are just different varieties of grapes and can be substituted for each other. Raisins are sweeter. Your caraway seeds are a spice 24:31 - small jar, red lid, to the right of basil leaves. 3rd shelf from the top, 7th item from the left on that shelf. Your menu plan sounds delicious. Looking forward to the next episode for some ideas.

Hi Becky in Australia Sultana’s are dried small green grapes very popular for snacking on & baked goods. Raisins are dried darker larger grapes . It’s most common to use Sultanas over raisins in baking here due to size.
Becky as a greek I tell you baklava needs very thin see through filo so it turns out crispy with alot good quality butter, so it is a challenge to make filo on your own, only our giagias(grandmothers) which were experienced made them on their own ! but I know that if you try you will do it !!!!! so can't wait to see you do it😊oh and I made your moms/Joshes chocolate cake and omg it was excellent
I'm from the UK and sultanas are in every store! I was shocked when you said you had never seen one! We use them in so many things. Hot cross buns, fruit loaves, fruit cakes, fruit scones, bread pudding, curries and so much more. The three dried fruits I always have on hand are currants, raisins and sultanas. Check out some UK recipes Becky (Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood, John Kirkwood) I think you'll be surprised. We don't have plastic bags to put produce etc here in the UK any more. We are cutting down on plastic use and so there are no plastic carrier bags for packing the shopping into, we have to bring our own bags. The majority of packaging is also recyclable now which is so good as we are doing our bit to help the planet and erase plastic in the oceans. Your video content is one of the best on TH-cam and I always look forward to watching you. Thank you for all your hard work bringing and for bringing us in to share parts of your life 🙂

Becky you absolutely amaze me with everything you get done in a day. I love watching your videos and especially when you are cooking with your mom. I'm missing your mom cooking with you on this video. I hope you and your family have a blessed Easter and enjoy your wonderful dinner.
Unfortunately, it's hard to smell fruit for ripeness when the fruit is cold. But I try to smell all my fruit. To choose a cantaloupe or muskmelon, press lightly on the blossom end, opposite of the stem hole, and if it gives a little, it's ripe. With a pineapple, if you can pull leaves from the interior of the crown, it's ripe; it will also begin to turn yellow - don't let it turn too yellow. Some of the mangoes you overlooked were probably ripe because they had red on them. Also, strawberries don't ripen once they are picked, so if they have green or white tops, they will stay hard and bitter. Peaches won't ripen after being refrigerated for shipping, so try to get local fruit.
Thank you for your video! Happy Easter! Also, I smell the end of my cantaloupes to check for ripeness. In my experience, the more melon-ee it smells, the riper it is!😁
I am always amazed at how beautifully you (and your mum usually) organize these enormous gatherings. It is like a military operation. Interesting, though. Here in Southern Ontario, we no longer have open bulk bins anymore since Covid. They provide premeasured smallish amounts of the usual things in baggies. I prefer the old method but understand why they have changed it.
@@df6990 Thanks for the information. My local Bulk Barn has gone missing although it probably just moved so it is now out of my regular orbit. Good to know!
Fantastic job Becky. In the UK we call sultanas what you guys call golden raisins. A while back you needed Golden Syrup for a recipe but couldn’t find it. I watched a tutorial how to make your own on You tube. I don’t know how close it is to the real deal but it looked the part. Golden syrup is delicious.

for a cantaloupe or honeydew melon, press and smell the "button" where the stem was. if it gives a little it should be ripe. if it's hard as a rock, it's not ready. if it smells ripe it's good. if it smells like nothing or has an overly-ripe smell, it's not ready/over-ready respectively
So.. you have eggs from chickens you raise. My principal also raises chickens and ducks here in Colorado and raffles off a dozen eggs a week at staff meeting. I won! So excited to use my fresh eggs.

I have a recipe suggestion for you - English muffins. They are surprisingly easy to make and are so much better than store bought. Also, they make a great breakfast sandwich. (They are not baked in the oven, but fried on the stove, ideally in a cast iron pan.)
We love English muffins and it sounds like they would be fun to try! Do you have a reliable, delicious recipe to share? So many recipes I pull up online are not consistently good.
@@sortathesame8701 I have made some both from Preppy Kitchen and Natashas Kitchen and both came out great. My next try may be John Kirkwood as I’ve recently made a few really good recipes from him. (I have previously used a round 3 inch cookie cutter but next time I’m just going to cut the dough into pieces and weigh each one for consistency.) Enjoy!!!
I think she has made them before & mentioned how good they were. Or maybe she said she wanted to try making them. Ireally think she already did though!
Everyone in your family is blessed by all you give and do at the holidays. I'm on a strict food budget and go into shock at how much your grocery shopping hauls must cost. Of course you are filming it so that pays for it I suppose.
melon picking for me is looking for the color under the webbing not to be green, no soft spots and then smell. If is smells like cantelope it is generally ripe enough and good tasting.
Thumping and smelling are great, and was told by a watermelon farmer to look for scars of insect bites as they know the better melons easier than we do. Also, press into the watermelon, it shouldn’t give, or it might be overripe.

Thank you for all your hard work bringing and for bringing us in to share parts of your life 🙂
Hi Becky, Hi friends! Happy Easter Everyone
❤Happy Easter!
love how she calls Easter a party - we just call it dinner 😋 hoping for lots of new ideas - thnx for sharing 🇨🇦🙏
Just love how you so organized prep your Easter menu.
prep prep prep is the only way to go with large holiday gatherings - since my grandparents passed (I’m mid sixties) Easter is just our own families (my Mother is one of four and I’m one of five) and Christmas we’re all in with tables set for 75 🤦♀️ farm families will eat 🇨🇦🙏
the on thing I like about you is, that you take so much care with your meals, you make such special things for your family. Have a blessed Easter.
Becky I love spending time with you, you are such a pleasure to watch. You are by far one of my favorite people on the YT. Let your mom know that she was missed.❤ Can’t wait to see part 2.😊
Becky you are so sweet to help your Mom and Dad. I also know that they help you also ! I am amazed at how much you know about gardening! Amazing to learn from you !
Am I the only one that missed it? Who was the surprise guest? Your voice over said you had a surprise guest that showed up and wait till the end. I didn't see and I watched the end like 4 times. LOL I love your videos Becky and I love the fact you are so thankful to your viewers. It's one of the things that keeps me coming back. That and the fact you're wonderful and have inspired me so much. Thank you.
I didn't see the guest either!
‘Pack your own groceries’ here in the Netherlands we always do it ourselves. It’s really American that your groceries are packed at the checkout 💕
Becky I think I miss your momma as much as you do 🙂 but as always I enjoy your videos immensely. Happy Easter to you and yours…
raisins are red or blue grapes that are dried sultanas are dried green grapes thank you for your always wonderful videos hugs from a danish fan
Happy Easter to you and the family❤
Sultanas are dried white grapes, they are moist and excellent to put into a Waldorf salad …….xx
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter weekend.
You are just amazing.
Have a wonderful Easter ❤
As a Polish German immigrant…do not skip the caraway…it may seem an incidental herb…but it is a very important flavor💞
Love how bright the grow room is
Thank you for your video!
Happy Easter!
Also, I smell the end of my cantaloupes to check for ripeness. In my experience, the more melon-ee it smells, the riper it is!😁
Happy Easter to you all ❤️
I am always amazed at how beautifully you (and your mum usually) organize these enormous gatherings. It is like a military operation. Interesting, though. Here in Southern Ontario, we no longer have open bulk bins anymore since Covid. They provide premeasured smallish amounts of the usual things in baggies. I prefer the old method but understand why they have changed it.
You can still your own quantities at Bulk Barn.
@@df6990 Thanks for the information. My local Bulk Barn has gone missing although it probably just moved so it is now out of my regular orbit. Good to know!
@@kathleenclark5877 You go onto their website to see if its closed or moved in your area.
Happy Easter Becky to you and your family.
Thank you for bringing us along on your journey. You are now my favorite TH-camr. After a busy day I sit in my recliner and check for a new video and say, "oh good Becky's on".
Hey, Sweetie! Have a blessed Easter.
Wishing you amd your family a blessed Easter ❤ praying 🙏 for whomever your mom is helping too
❤I wish I had your energy, I admire you. ❤
I’ve always used active dry yeast and instant yeast interchangeably and have never had a problem.
Sending prayers for your family 🙏🙏. I miss your mom shopping and cooking with you. Happy Easter
Thompson seedless grapes are also called Sultana grapes ..and dried are called golden raisins
I think it’s great how your family comes together to pull things off. Great job!
Ich wünsche euch frohe Ostern 🐣 Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland
Kong makes stuffy toys that hold up very well, if you ever want stuffeys for the dogs.
Becky, saltanas are what we in America call "Golden Raisins"...for future reference.
It's always fun and a delight to be apart of your enjoyable life! But I missed your mom shopping and planning with you too! Be sure to let her know we missed her!😔😌Looking forward to the prep, cook and finish! Have a great weekend Becky!❤
for a cantaloupe or honeydew melon, press and smell the "button" where the stem was. if it gives a little it should be ripe. if it's hard as a rock, it's not ready. if it smells ripe it's good. if it smells like nothing or has an overly-ripe smell, it's not ready/over-ready respectively
So.. you have eggs from chickens you raise. My principal also raises chickens and ducks here in Colorado and raffles off a dozen eggs a week at staff meeting. I won! So excited to use my fresh eggs.
Our dog carries his baby stuffed toys very carefully in his mouth! He is so gentle and has had them for a long time!
Happy Easter to you and your family Becky!!
Love seeing your success! Have been watching from practically the beginning.
You can absolutely tell how stressed you are in this video because the amount of times you repeat the same things is 4X more than normal.
You've a blessed life. You're doing well.
You can find far better deals on herbs, spices, rice & grains in Indian or Asian grocery stores.
Or Hispanic grocery.
Everyone in your family is blessed by all you give and do at the holidays. I'm on a strict food budget and go into shock at how much your grocery shopping hauls must cost. Of course you are filming it so that pays for it I suppose.
Wishing you all a very happy Easter.
melon picking for me is looking for the color under the webbing not to be green, no soft spots and then smell. If is smells like cantelope it is generally ripe enough and good tasting.
Thumping and smelling are great, and was told by a watermelon farmer to look for scars of insect bites as they know the better melons easier than we do. Also, press into the watermelon, it shouldn’t give, or it might be overripe.
😊 Blessings, Becky. Huuugs to ya,,,
sending love and prayer hugs to your mom also. . ❣️ Am with you all from afar. 🙏🏻💖✝️🌼
I am sending your mother positive vibes and prayers ❤
Blessed Easter!!
Becky, how do you manage to stay out of the Funny Farm? Do you take Happy Pills? How do you do all that you do and why do you do it?
I do enjoy a grocery shopping video! Thank you for this one!
I know that it can be sad to do these things without the ones we love. But seeing your Mom I'm sure was so much sweeter!
Happy Easter To and your Family Becky
