    The reason I bought a TSX wagon is that I wanted something reliable, but unique. I wanted something practical and efficient with lots of cargo capacity that would get me to work and back without issue or drama. And that's exactly what this car does. It has comfortable seats, is fat person friendly, has a nice sounding exhaust and has enough bells and whistles to make me feel like I'm driving something nice.
    Everytime I leave work and walk up to it I get a feeling of happiness. I feel like I made it from owning this car.
    I had a fwd 2008 VW passat wagon with the turbo I4 from the golf GTI that I owned for 4 months before a Pennsylvania buck leapt out in front of it and it was totaled by my insurance company and a garage that over quoted the repair costs. I was heartbroken. I wound up in a 2010 5 speed manual Kia Soul that helped me out through tough financial times and got me to work reliably. Then I lost both my parents. Mom in 2020 from congestive heart failure and Dad in 2021 from covid. I started a new job, took over paying the mortgage on my parents house, am tied up in getting said house in my name and paying it off cause neither parent had a will.
    Last 2 years have been impossibly difficult. But I'm doing it. I'm working on losing weight, working on getting my life under my control, working on being a better person. I'm proud to say I got this car with my own money, this was my reward to myself for going through the shit. And once I found a TSX wagon I could afford my friend pointed out that it was like the ghost of my passat, hence the little ghost on the front.
    I'm proud of it, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be where I've gotten. It's a symbol of hard work.
    And personally it's all I really need out of a vehicle. The K24 with the dual exhaust sounds good. The Vtec does the vtec screamy thing and its a barrel of laughs. It has a ridiculously powerful sound system with a factory subwoofer in the trunk. It can carry my band equipment without complaints. On sunny days its nice to drive with the sunroof and windows open.
    I love it, and I'm not actively interested in modifying it. But if the transmission did fail then I would definitely go to a junk yard and find a 6 speed manual. I've got a 2 year warranty on it that I dont want to void so perhaps in 2 years I'd consider putting a small turbo on it, given the k24's reputation for being the LS of the 4 cylinder world

      The K24 doesnt really scream. Its redline is only 7k. Its not like the K20a2 or K20Z3 with 8200rpm.
      But ya vtec is heard but not like those others. Its a uniqe looking car.

      I used to have a 95 Accord wagon. I found it specifically because I grew up with wagons
      It wasn’t a manual. It wasn’t from 96 with a obd2 reader
      It didn’t even have that 3rd row of seats I wanted…
      But
      But
      I LOVED that car. Someone totaled it while I was on the highway.
      And your description of the wagon reminds me of how I felt with that wagon.

    This is reminding me of the Accord Crosstour reveal. Years of people yearning for the wagon to return. Instead Honda dropped a chunky butched up Accord and defiantly insisted it was what we all deserved.
    "Honda (or Nintendo): if we ever happen to give you want you want, it will strictly be coincidence and never because of your pleas"

      On looks alone, I find them on opposite ends of the spectrum. The Crosstour was/is exceptionally ugly. The Sportwagon looks very sharp. I would have seriously considered one had it been offered with a standard transmission. Nothing would have enticed me to consider a Crosstour.

      Case in point: I’ve looked at my ‘15 CRV for years thinking “it would be cool if they put a turbo in this.”
      Fast forward to 2022, and now the CRV has a turbo. Same thing with the HRV. Only has 145-ish hp, but won’t get a turbo until maybe next year, and of course that model is getting a redesign that’ll get rid of the cool hidden rear door handles which delightfully trick people into thinking it’s a 2 door SUV, for conventional ones. In other words, Honda has always done this thing where you get either great styling or performance, but not both (Civic Type R I’m looking at you, ya ugly bast*rd)

    This was the first brand new car I ever purchased. The ELS stereo is one of the best factory systems that can be had an any price. It's not the most exciting car in the world, but it's 100% classic Honda in the sense that I put 90k miles on, then sold it to a friend who has it up to 160k miles. The interior still looks perfect and the only piece of maintenance done outside of oil changes and tires has been front brake pads. Owners can genuinely expect 250-300k worry free miles with these.

      Exactly- mock the K24 and automatic all you want but this car is a great, basically bulletproof, hauler for people that don’t want an SUV or minivan

    It always bums me out when a car company gets so close to having something really special but misses the mark. I owned a 2004 TSX with a 6 speed manual and it was FANTASTIC. It was a lovely car to drive. Had Acura put a manual in this car, I might very well have gotten one. Oh well,maybe next time Acura.

      I hear time & time again that the 1st gen TSX was superior all around. I had a 2nd gen sedan w/ this same drivetrain. Never found a j-series, 6 spd car, but the sedans are out there.
      I definitely don't miss having to redline just to merge onto the highway, but at least it was very happy to redline.

      I love manuals but this auto is not all that bad with the paddle shifters Acura actually let’s you drop a gear into near redline, if you know how to keep it in vtec it can be pretty fun in the backroads

      @@nicholasgonzalez1914 agreed. It's actually an excellent transmission and is essentially a 5 speed manual with individual clutch packs where synchros would be. When paddle shifted its almost as good as a dual clutch.

    My mom had one of these in that press car blue with the tech package. It was a great car. Quiet and comfy on road trips with plenty of luggage space. The headlights were amazing for the time, as was the ELS sound system. The K24 and 5AT weren’t actually that bad either once you figured out how it wanted to be driven. It definitely would have been better with the V6 and/or the manual though. I’m sure we’ll see swaps at some point, since both the J35 and the 6MT were offered in the sedan version of the TSX.

      There are swaps right now. I know someone who did the v6 with a 6 speed manual and even made his AWD. I wish I could get one of these and just be happy with it. I know if I do get one, it will be straight to the chopping block

      @@Kastro876 that's not odd at all. You guys get everything cool, & we get the shaft. A lot of people from around the world think Americans don't drive manuals for the wrong reason for example. They don't understand how rare manuals are here. You CANNOT just pick one up or even get your hands on one to drive unless you happen to know someone with one. And outside of commercial trucks, there is virtually zero diesel market here.

    Dude, I have one of these wagons and we love it. I understand your need for a manual trans and speed but we've put 50,000 miles on it in 2.5 years and it's great. We get nothing but complements..

    It makes me sad to see a car like this judged on the unrealistic expectations of pundits rather than on its own merits. This was never meant to be a 3-series competitor. It wasn't a sports car. If you look at it without the badge and without the snark, it's perfect. Enough power to get out of its own way, it's not a behemoth that's hard to maneuver, it's a WAGON, it has Honda reliability, and it has a nice interior. It was perfect and we rejected it. And now it's dead. We didn't deserve it.

      I’ve been a fan of the TSX Sport Wagon since it first released, but it was far from perfect. Looking at the comparables it’s not surprising why people dropped a couple extra grand on the E91 instead.
      I’ve been in a Honda/Acura (and Lexus the past few years thanks to me) household my entire life. I really don’t know why Honda decided not to have the J-Series standard let alone even an option for this car, especially with the “Sport” name attached to it. Along with the additional weight it really needed it.
      For a wagon the rear seat room could have been better, only a few more inches in the back wouldn’t have ruined the trunk space.
      However, for a dependable wagon it ticked all the boxes. Had this same recipe been used for the Accord it definitely would’ve sold well, instead Honda decided to make the Crosstour which wasn’t a true wagon nor sedan.

      Definitely not perfect. If you're going to compete, why not actually compete? These things were a fortune new. True wagon fans went to the Germans, and anyone who wanted AWD got an SUV. Acura found a way to actually push away their own potential new customers. The only people that bought these were either previous Honda/Acura customers or someone who bought them on the expectation of reliability. Nobody bought these based on their own merits, because objectively speaking they didn't bring what customers wanted. And that is why they failed, plain and simple.

    As someone who owns a 2012 TSX Sportwagon I love mine. I've done a lot of work to get it where I like it. I daily it during good weather and autocross it full time in the STX (Street Touring Extreme) class. The biggest thing I wish it had was a manual transmission. If you ever get the chance to buy one or drive one arou d a course take it. You wont regret it. These cars are truly underrated if you're a wagon enthusiast. Love the video. Wish he discussed more of the car, but love me some good philosophy.

      @@JonasOnAutos , according to the TSX owners manual they require premium fuel. I always put premium in mine as it’s a high compression engine and the manufacturer indicates it’s required not recommended.

    Seemed like when it came to engine and transmission choices, Honda was unsure how well it would sell, so they went for the safe option. So the sport wagon ended up being an enigma, not enough performance for enthusiasts and the "sporty" design sacrifices too much practicality for soccer moms.

      Psst - where was the “sporty” design? Looks like every other minivan and CUV out there. Wagons *can* look very cool. Toyota made the Camry wagon one of the ugliest wagons I’ve seen, so that isn’t a fair comparison. Mazda made a better looking wagon, for a lot less money.

    The TLX is just an evolved TL which (more or less) replaced the Accord Wagon, as in they are built on the same Marysville line. The Accord Wagon died when the US market Accord grew a size. The wagon was made in the US, but most of its sales were overseas (it was the single most-exported to Japan car for a couple years). Back in town (Columbus/Dublin), seeing an Accord Wagon was a fairly sure sign of an overseas Honda Family. So when they re-sized the Accord, the Coupe stayed in the US, but the Wagon went with the JDM size (and eventually came back as an the TSX). And the TL became US made and replaced the Vigor (and a couple of JDM nameplates).

      You know the replacement for the TSX was so forgettable that no one can remember it was called the ILX. Not even Honda did, because it sat on the same platform for nearly EIGHT YEARS with only refreshes until the new Integra.

      Its wild that the oversees Accord Wagon had a wheelbase even smaller than the Accord of the previous and current generation. Like even the coups had an inch to the tsx’s 106.5 inches. What gives with that?

      @@air-headedaviator1805 Most of the world sees the US Accord as this huge car that's way bigger than they could ever afford - or need. The TSX was a perfectly credible Accord in most markets. I always liked this wagon, though thought the styling of the sedan more attractive in the prior generation. It was a bit sharper.

    The K24z3 in this car is NOT the standard K24 from the 4 cyl. Accord, Element, or CRV. Those all have VTEC that only operates on the intake cam and is meant for economy. This has VTEC on both cams. It’s also the go to for most K series swaps because it’s basically a stroked out K20Z3. It’s the transmission that lets the great engine down.

      No, it does not have vtec on both cams. No solenoid to be found on the exhaust cam, nor is there a third lobe.

    Watched this while barely awake sipping my coffee and got lulled into absorbing all the philosophical breakdown of the Acura TSX Sportwagon that when he emphasized it had 26mpg, I started typing 26 in place of the date for my daily report files without even thinking. Another excellent review tho RCR!

    I love the 'reality' of the 2012 TSX wagon I've been driving since 2016. I can go for months without seeing another. The paddle shifter works just fine thank you, the suspension is excellent, the build quality is solid and my local Acura dealer wants to buy it every time I bring her in for service. That 2.4 motor is bullet proof, and the trannie is well mated for daily driving. There is no impetus for winning stoplight races, so it gets down to the right tool for the job. This one fits....ymmv.

    It's funny, this was the last Accord we had in Europe. After this one, focus went to the CR-V and Civic. Meanwhile, Toyota brought back the Camry, the same as the US but just hybrid, and EU specification. And now that Honda has a great Accord in the US, including a hybrid, we instead got the shaft here... Fuck sake.... I would love to see the US Accord here, specially if they made a wagon, but everything now has to be a fucking crossover or SUV.

      I think the currant Gen accord in a wagon body with the manual and the detuned 2.0t, would be an instant future classic that Honda refuses to make.

      The current Accord would be huge by European standards. There just hasn't historically been much demand for cars that big, as they're hard to park and a tight squeeze in many places.

    I sold these in 2013, and no one wanted them. We had a full color run, days on lot 300+. They were good cars, nice sound system, but boring to drive. You really felt the high weight in the rear.

    I've got the 2007 version of the TSX (actually "Accord Euro", CL9) with a 6 speed manual. It's the closest thing I've been able to find to a Peugeot 405 Mi-16 that's reliable and Japanese. All around great driving experience. It's the K24A3 though (150kW) not the K24A1 used in the Odyssey (130kW). They made it in a wagon in the EU market, but not elsewhere.

    I drive this car as a Honda Accord with 2.0l R20 engine (daily driven with around 40mpg). It was also available in Europe with the K24 and manual transmission.
    Even if you bought this car in 2008, it's still handling better than a 2020 Civic. Far more fun to drive, way better steering and chassis as rigid as the 2020 Civic if not a bit more. The manual transmission is superior to the one found in the 2020 civic.
    There is a mistake: this Car was sold in Europe as the Honda Accord CW1(R20A), CW2(K24) and CW3 (N22 Diesel). Not as a Accord CL!

    This is called a Honda Accord here in europe and I have it with a 2.2 diesel engine with 178bhp and a 6 speed manual. It's pretty sporty, especially for a diesel.

    There was a j-series V6 option for the sedan in the latter years of this generation. It made the car very nose heavy, even for a fwd V6.

      That's right. My dealer service manager told me the body was never designed for the V6 and it eats up front end components. The 4 is way better in terms of balance and is perfect for the car.

    What I've found with RCR: The less sense a car's design decisions make, the better the episode. The whole meaning of RCR is "What does this car mean, who is it for," and he can do the most abstract dives on cars who's makers didn't know that either.

    Acura seems to be an expert in making visually exciting cars and turning them into forgettable vehicles. The TSX sportwagon is one. I completely had forgotten this existed until today that I saw this review. Had Acura sold the TSX Sportwagon with the V6 and SHAWD it would have probably stuck in my mind far better.

    Myself being an owner of the sibling to this generation TSX, 8th generation Accord coupe, I can say that this engine k24z3 bolts right up with the k24z7 (9th gen si) due to both engines being identical just that the civic needed a different oil pan to fit the subframe thus the separate designation. Quite literally, there’s nothing stopping you from converting it into a k24 with 6 speed lsd. In keeping with the fact that the engines all bolt up to each other, the supercharger kit made for the 9th gen si fits and you can also mod the RBC intake manifold off the 8th gen si to fit the k24z3 and adapters exist to route coolant, and fit a 70mm throttle body off of a 3.7 TL/ZDX. So safe to say that there do exist avenues to increase the power on the car. It’s just a matter of research and money

    Still, after all these years, I can't believe Honda tried to sell Accords as sporty/premium cars in the US for years. This is just a basic Accord wagon. It's fine. It's an Accord.

      @@fuosdi64 See, you say that, but a quick search is telling me the Accord had the K24 available, the interior looks identical, save for probably color options, and suspension setups differ quite often in what is sold as the same car between EU and the US anyways. So if the difference is an option package, I'll probably still consider them to be the same car.

    Looked at these in the past but talked myself out of it and didn't want to spend the money. About a year ago one showed up at our local Mazda dealer in vortex blue pearl with only 30k miles and priced really well; everything was too good to be true and I couldn't pass it up, so now I'm a tsx sportwagon owner. Yes, it could be sportier with more power, but I do enjoy it and it's practical for our family right now. I'll get my fun car next time around, probably when I no longer have to worry about car seats.

    I drive one of these now and I absolutely love it. My only gripe is the lack of power for passing on the freeway but it’s got enough get up and go for surface streets and as a cyclist it’s perfect for hauling around all my biking gear. My favorite thing about it though is that it’s such a rare car, when others driving it see you they’ll honk and wave 😂 it’s happened to me almost every time I pass one

      This is a bucket of crap. I agree with Regular Car reviews. I remember when this damn thing was on the VERGE of coming out. They had wagon concepts running around. They had the Crosstour.. and this.
      But the Crosstour was a pile of shit... and this... was stuck between a CRV for Acura... and the MDX. Its boring to look at.. required premium fuel.. and has all of the driver demands of PRESLICED AND WRAPPED AMERICAN CHEESE! --- FUCKING AWFUL!

      I have a 05 HONDA Element aka.. I call it my CUBIST (PICASSO style paintings). I also call it SQUARE, BLUE, HONDA... cause it is. I also drive the living hell out of it.
      I have power steering, power brakes.. and a throttle cable. After 05... the power steering and braking became electric.. and the throttle cable went away. SO... ya cant feel anything, ya got no idea wtf is going on...
      And how is this a good thing.
      SURE... Id love a TSX Wagon, but Im not willing to give up feeling wtf my car is doing... for a shitty motor n trans.

    Actually less back seat space than a Honda Civic! I own one of these... And everything stated is pretty true. ...But - it basically checked the boxes for me. I was looking for a daily car that could carry more than my 08 Civic SI sedan (although the civic fit people better in the back seat) to go along with my S2000. I had decided that I would get a CRV and call it a day. However, at the time (2015) a 2-3 year old CRV; resale value was pretty high - thousands higher than the TSX Wagon. So for less money, I got a better looking, more powerful, more feature-rich vehicle. I live in the Bay Area in CA and I don't need AWD and I'm single - I just wanted to be able to carry a few bikes and other things. It worked out for me because people don't by wagons - everyone claims that if a company would make a 6-speed station wagon, they jump all over it, but the truth is people don't. Nobody wanted them - I got mine for $18K, for a 3 year old car. I like that I don't see these driving past me every day (I think they brought less cars over in the 4 years it was sold than 1 year of my S2000 -

    Oddly enough, I’m one of those 11 people who own a TSX Sport Wagon. I also happen to own a ‘05 Element 5MT and a 997.1 S. All of these car fill a need. The Porsche is apparent, compensating for my lack of attractiveness yet signaling my understanding of engineering and performance. The Element does a job. It’s a thing that carries stuff like a ruck sack. The TSX of a car. I drive it to work. It’s sits at airports for days on end. It starts, turns and stops without complaints. It looks, like almost all wagons, good. Long low lines without soon to be aged fake air vents and defusers. The build quality is high and trunk and front seats are accommodating. Don’t really care about the back seat. A set of Michelin PS AS 3+ tires make it a little closer to enjoyable in corners.
    Mr Regular got it right. It’s a car you can recommend. Nobody is saying that about a 2011 Forester.

    I regularly see an Acura wagon and the Buick wagon parked in front of my house on Sunday mornings. I live right around the corner from a church, so I assume they are church crowd. I always liked both of these, and feel like they look good enough to warrant a big engine.

    As an Acura and wagon fan, when this was released, I was pretty excited.
    At the time, Audi had just dropped manual transmissions on their A4 wagon in North America a couple years before.
    I was hoping that Acura would step up and make the TSX wagon AWD and manual to give a more reliable alternative to the A4.
    But they didn't even really try with this one. I went for a ride in one to convince myself to buy one. But it's small inside, low on power, and FWD.
    Later I drove a B7 A4 avant and was sold. It even had a V6 manual as an option, but I went with the smaller engine because the front end was lighter. I still own that car with over 200k miles on it and it's much more powerful than the TSX. And of course a manual with AWD.
    But I'm still annoyed that Acura never at least offered a manual. I might have overlooked the other issues and bought it. But this was a very hard time for Acura. They were making some of the worst cars they've ever made and they still haven't recovered. The only reason Acura is around today is because of the MDX.
    As much as I loved Acura, it would have been better for everyone if they went out of business right after the Legend, or the second best time would have been after the 3rd gen TL and RSX.

    Correction: This doesn't have the interior from a 4th gen JDM Inspire. The 4th Gen inspire had the exterior of the 2003-07 (7th gen) North American Honda Accord, with the interior of the 04-08 TSX. This wagon is a full JDM accord wagon, in and out. In Japan, the TSX of this time was an Accord with only minor cosmetic changes, and the Inspire (5th gen) was introduced alongside and was essentially identical to the 2008-12 8th gen North American Accord.

    Used to own the sedan 4 cylinder auto of this car and I loved it. It had a great interior, it drove awesome, easy to work on, reliability champ, etc. It was just so painfully slow, I did full bolt-ons and a tune but even then it still could get gapped by V6 Camry's 😂. Bought a supercharger kit for it but decided to sell it and the car and bought a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT instead. Will always have love for the TSX tho 🙌🏼

      I have a 2011 TSX sedan. I love it! It's pretty peppy to me, at least when you need it to drop and gear a pass someone. Sure, it's 0-60 isn't great, but it's a happy revving engine that's bullet-proof. All the car you need for commuting to work. I also do not understand how the handling was bashed in this review. At least the sedan version handles like it's on rails imo. I also get roughly 33-36 mpg on the highway with this car.

    I was selling Acuras when this one came out. I was impressed with the driving characteristics that were tighter and more planted than the Hondas I also sold at the time and it felt more "solid" somehow. But it was underpowered and that was the second biggest objection I ran into on it after the lack of an AWD. Acura's propaganda to the sales force on it's release had everyone thinking it was going to be the the second coming or something, which it was definitely not. But it was a cool car regardless even if a bit mediocre in some ways. If only the had given it a turbo option and AWD you would have had a car that would make the RDX unnecessary which is exactly why they never did it.

    Given that 40% of the review was about pot, $20 says that the TSX wagon reeked of skunk weed, the remains of the blue forest air freshener, the Febreze clip that fell off of the vent and will never be retrieved from under the seat, stale Cheetos, and a decomposing McDonald's cheeseburger still in the wrapper but can't be found.
    All Mr. Regular had to do was show us the drive-thru at a Taco Bell or White Castle at 3:00AM and this review would be complete.

    I have a 2010 Honda Accord Tourer (TSX Sport Wagon in the US) and I think it's a nice family hauler for single people. The Honda version came with 4 engines: a 156 hp 2.0 petrol (R20A3), a 201 hp 2.4 petrol (K24Z3), a 2.2 150 hp diesel (N22B) and another 2.2 diesel (N22B2) with 180 hp

      I have a 2011 sedan. I have 164k on it and it shows no signs of slowing down. I find it fun and it handles really well in my opinion, but yeah it's not fast. For a commuter car, it's all you'd ever need. I get 33-36mpg in mine on the highway.

      I can see that, but in this case it feels more like "It's a car. There's nothing exciting about it. It does things, it's practical, it's kinda nice to look at in its own unique way but that's all. It really isn't that special in the grand scheme of things, it just looks like it should be."

    I have an 09 TSX. It's the first car I chose and bought entirely with my own money. It's so much better than any of the 4 other cars I've had before. I love it so much.

      Have you had the VTC actuator failure when it rattles for a second during cold starts? Mine has 117k and it’s been doing it.

      @@buckeye392 yes, I bought my car used from Acura it had around 90k, when the salesman turned it on it was the first thing I noticed, the second was the bald tires with a fresh inspection sticker, needles to say I’ve been in the automotive business for some time, haggled with the sales manager and he agreed to replace all of the tires for 500$ ( Michelin pilots) paid 250$ for the actuator and he agreed to eat the labor, well he ate 13 hours worth of it just to replace that actuator 🤣

    Honda and Toyota both remember how fondly remembered the 1990’s Honda Accord Wagon and Toyota Camry Wagon was. But the 2010’s market no longer cared for the Acura TSX Wagon nor the Lexus Wagons.

    Currently owning a 2010 TSX sedan version, gotta say I'm pleased with the driving dynamics. Considering the age of the car it is still a very solid construction. Torque is lacking especially loaded with luggage and passengers but overall a great everyday sedan.

    From what I heard, the 2nd gen TSX was supposed to get the K23A1 turbo-4 from the RDX instead of the J35Z6 to give it the power of a V6 without the nose weight to keep it snappy. If Honda just put that thing in anything but ONLY the RDX, especially the TSX, this would've been a great car.

    RCR needs to do a review on the first-gen RDX. It was Honda/Acura's first attempt at a sport luxury SUV. Honda took a k23 and slapped a Mitsubishi turbo on it and got 240hp out of it. 4k lb SUV went 0-60 in about 6 seconds. I loved mine. The engine combined with SH-AWD was a really fun drive.

      It was a great car but it got lousy fuel economy. Problem the only negative.

      @@sachemrock yep that was my only complaint about it. It got 19/24 from a turbo 4. It didn't help that it took premium too.
