@@jimeagle1155 The kid in me that refuses to grow up wants to say that you're wrong, but the sensible adult in me is compelled to say you're right. The same sensible adult that uses 6th gear in his C5Z in situations where it isn't needed because of the great gas mileage.
The whole ending about time and existence with “Chase the horizon, the c5 is fast enough to get you there”… WOW. Literally felt emotions of just how much a car like this can make you feel. We all know those long drives in the car we love to nowhere just before the sunset during summer, to return home at dark feeling like we are kids again.
The part where you got all deep about the passage and effect of time really hit me. It made me think about a lot of things. This channel really is a gift - who knew cars could have such depth to them
As a GenX in the first half of a 40 year career, I caught glimpse of an all new 1997 C5 in my rearview while on a business trip. Always a bit of a Ferrari fan, I was astonished at the sight of the car that I began to pace for the next several miles. A car like that, let alone any Corvette, was out of my financial reach and this became what was the dream of someday. Well, someday came in the summer of 2013 as I drove home in my "new to me" 2001 torch red convertible Corvette. There I was, top down, rowing through the 6 speed gear box on Hwy 64 out of Franklin NC, tears in my eyes and a joy of life that driving the car still gives me today. My dad told me a similar story that happened to him on some back road in Texas in our 1968 GTO, I was with him that day and, as a kid, I really didn't realize what that day meant to him....wish he could have been there with me on my "someday".
I wasn't expecting to be brought to the verge of tears. And now, here I am... sitting in the cab of an International in Richmond, trying not to break down sobbing like I've just watched 'Gunshot of Remorse'... again. Thanks, Mr Regular. You're helping me feel. :3
As a middle aged man who takes care of old people and who doesn't have his shit together this video hit me really hard. The writing is so good... and painful.
That final bit about time reminded me of my favorite Captain Picard quote. "Someone once told me that time is a predator that stalks us all our lives, but I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey, and reminds us to cherish every moment, because they'll never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived. After all, Number One, we're only mortal."
Dude I stood up and applauded at the end, screaming "Bravo!" My wife thought I was nuts. Well more nuts than usual because at almost 50, this is all I think about now. This business about time, and the sequence of moments, the losses, the gains, and the changes. The first heartbreak, end of the band, the first marriage and its end, the first death of a friend, the first CAT scan, the first signs of slowing and infirmity knocking at the door, the patterns repeating themselves through the generations, and the utter, dark senselessness of it all. So after 20 years of lusting after one I bought a used Civic Si. Not because it would make me feel 'young'(I'm not nearly naive enough to think that). But to try to outrun the nihilism. To try to get out in front of it. Instead of feeling like I'm being swallowed by it. Something has to matter, as we whip around the Sun and it coasts around the galaxy, itself circling other galaxies, the fires of a quadrillion suns fed by the sheer indifference to their own existences. Awesome episode. Also I got to drive a C4 back in '96 and I was thrilled for that half hour of my life. I'm not a 'car guy' so I rarely get the opportunity to drive true performance cars. 'Vettes rule
I love that "outrun the nihilism" line. This video, and comments like yours, are putting to words what my brain has been subconsciously thinking for a while now.
The C5 WAS a dad's car...when it was new. Now it ticks all the boxes of a young person's sportscar. Not least of all because of the ability of a young person to attain it and enjoy it.
They're relatively inexpensive, fast, handle well, comfortable, reliable, reasonably economical, relatively cheap to fix, respond very well to modification, and (with the hatchback) surprisingly practical. The only thing it CAN'T do is carry more than 2 people.
@@cavalierliberty6838 If I can find sports cars for under 5K CAD, that means the youth can afford them. And sure enough, plenty of pony cars and Japanese sport coupes are in that pricerange on the used market.
Bro, your long bits (in this case about “time”, towards the end) are masterful and under appreciated. I’ve gone back to your FJ video many times, just to hear your Simulation/Simulacra analysis. Keep up the great content.
I do the exact same thing with the hurst/olds video. Brilliant analysis of how nostalgia becomes a commodity. Oh yeah, and also the last simile in the ‘07 ford ranger strikes a chord every single time.
I just bought a 02 z06 and I’m exactly as old as it is. I bought one of the best machines of all time, and I’m so glad nobody my age realizes that because I was able to afford this car. I love this car and will probably drive it until the day I die.
That’s when you know the designers hit on something timeless. The design still doesn’t look dated today (save for the headlights). And yes, all hail the LS’s Book of Genesis. “And the car gods said…let there be torque, and there was torque.”
This video has literally sent me into a midlife crisis downward spiral. I turned 38 this year and I've been on the verge of it for 5 years and this video has cemented it.
My friends dad bought this for himself after getting terminal cancer in 2012. Same color and everything. Paid 15k with 100k miles. It sure was a fun ride Ed.
I have never had anyone pluck so existentially deeply into my heartstrings so unexpectedly as you have... and still come out of left field to continue to do.
6 years ago at 18 years of age I bought my 97 C5 6mt, bone stock. From a mechanical and aesthetic standpoint, it followed the pattern of the first RCR C5 review, a narrative about the C5 as a canvas upon which the enthusiast can paint themselves unabashedly and yet still be accepted among other owners of the same vehicle with diverse missions and goals. It was truly a creative outlet in these 6 years. Now, 6 years later, I've bought a house. Moved up in my job. But I'm dating a girl from another country, and it's looking possible that the house and the job may have to fall by the wayside for me to chase love and true happiness. And as I ponder over that, thinking the one thing I won't compromise on is bringing that corvette with me, Mr. Regular's new words ring true in my head: Go ahead and chase that horizon. The C5 is fast enough to get you there.
Wow man, you're in the exact same boat as me! But I told the girl I'm with there are a few cars I just can't sell and must keep... If the girl understands this, she's a keeper. With that, I think I'll also be making the jump. It will be tough to leave the U.S, but bringing your car with you is a good way to keep something prized with you while you enter the next stage of your life. Best of luck, buddy!
This is my favorite RCR video ever. When it hits around minute 12 is when it really sinks in. I've watched this maybe 6 times now and keep rewatching it every so often, even though I don't own a Corvette.
I swear these reviews go from funny and informative to hearing the realest and thought provoking stuff that really makes you think. That why I love rcr
Between telling the story of a great car, to the story of the circle of life, you my friend, are a true asset to this world. Your work gets us laughing, crying, pondering into deep parts of our souls, and for that I say THANK YOU RCR!
I just inherited a 98 C5 from my uncle. You perfectly captured the demographic and his love for this car. I'm 40, and now i loved this car. It is timeless. I can not wait to learn how to maintain it, so that the next generation can love it. Praise.
Of all the corvettes I've worked on, my favorite is a white 2001 convertible that some kid owns. It has 260,000 or so miles, every warning light is on, every part of the car groans in protest when driven. But my god, it is driven. I have more respect for a "rare" car that is used as a car than I have for any amount of lovely trailer queens.
If I ever buy an exotic car, I'm going to get my money's worth. I'll drive that thing everywhere. Cars are made to be driven, not parked in a living room and looked at. I have great respect for Rowan Atkinson for daily driving his McLaren F1. He knew how much it was worth and still daily drove it because he loved it so much. Wrecked it twice and rebuilt it twice.
Props for getting so many miles on the vette. I have a c5 with 70k on it now. Its my only car and ill drive it in any weather including over snow if i can clear it.
Cars are supposed to be driven, there are some cars that I understand need to be protected because of the history and true rarity of them, but there's lots of vettes, drive em, enjoy them. Take the traction control off and spin those tires down your driveway, enjoy it.
Wow, this video was deep, especially the last bit about time. Wonderfully written and edited. I got a C5 when I was 25 and sold it a few years back. Best car I’ve ever owned and I miss it.
The high gears are indeed very high, 6th gear going 55 feels like lugging it (but you can lug the shit out of it and it doesn't stutter). I bought a fairly low mileage C5Z for less than a used Civic and people act like I bought a new C8 off the showroom floor for 100 grand, non-car people just have no idea, it's a fucking space ship to them (then you get inside and it's like being 10 and getting driven to school in a Cavalier). When I was like 16 I remember having conversations to the effect of "American cars aren't good like Japanese cars, except the Vette and that costs way too much and smokes everything but is in a whole other class and doesn't count." Now I can choose between a wrong year S2K, an RX-7 FD with bad seals, half of an N/A MK4 Supra or a beautiful Vette grandpa never drove for ~$20K It's never been about image for me, I was never into the image when I had Miata 20 years before it was cool cause it was the best handling car I could afford, when I had a WRX I just wanted a practical car that could move , the C5/6 Vette is just the performance bargain of our time in so many ways. The fiberglass will never rust, many of these were garaged and maintained very well, they are dead simple to work on compared to modern/turbo cars and make as much power as most of th new stuff that is twice the price, the potential in an LS is crazy.... You just need a stereo, some LED lights (because my god will you outrun the 90's headlights on this thing and it's terrifying), an exhaust (they sound great but are very quiet) and maybe some coil overs. Ps. I set my GPS to backroads and I pretty much floor it off every light and I still average 17mpg. For what it is it's great on gas. The only issue with the fuel consumption is that I feed it the 93 it deserves.
it is really great the prices have held pretty steady over the years, even in the last couple. and the thing is they are real performance cars, depending on the model, but it’s a good base if you really want to make it fast price to performance here is outstanding
Can you elaborate on "wrong year s2k" Is it just a matter of AP2 > AP1 or was there a specific couple years something was funky with them? Great comment as well, very insightful
@@BritPopVP70 Yeah AP1 vs 2 and there was some other thing maybe, I really only skimmed the surface of the S2K research before I decided it wasn't for me. I remembered how much I hated the old soft top on the Miata and the hard top S2Ks are super rare IIRC. I'm sure they are great cars but I also feel like they are really inflated since Honda never sold all that many and the production run wasn't all that long. Definitely more of a special, rarer collector car to hang on to, a fast and furious iconic JDM car that is very much in and cool and the track day car of choice for tighter courses... though I think for the street it lacks top end and for longer courses it lacks stability (the short wheel base giveth and taketh away). Also I don't know what the parts availability is like for them but I don't think it's all that great compared to the Vette which ran for nearly two decades on the C5/6 chassis. (250K C5s to 110K S2Ks before you even add in the C6s)... I still can't believe a 4-banger sports car from 20 years ago is going for 25K+
Ya know I came here because I love these cars but I'm leaving realizing that no one in this small town is going to be recognizable 30 years later, all the problems and frustrations people put me through will be forgotten. Hats off to you Mr. Regular
My father in law's 01 is being shipped to me next week. He passed away 9 years and after driving the piss out of that car. Different family members have been care takers and now it's my turn. That was coolest Corvette video I have seen yet! Thanks!

The C5 Z06 is easily the greatest Vette ever made. A perfect drivers car, if you want my opinion. Really well balanced between practicality, reliability, and performance. The power isn't too insanely high, and the suspension geometry is far better than previous generations and competitors. I'm not big on American cars, but I'd absolutely have one of these, or a New Edge SVT Cobra R
Man, this video epitomizes why I love RCR. From the history of the car and where it fits into our society, to facing time itself and the mysterious "someday" that never comes, and our own mortality. Really excellent work, guys. This will be on the RCR greatest hits album, for sure
I bought a 4 year old C5 when I was 21. And 20+ years later I still have it. And its basically the best sportscar ever made. So Im an old man with a Corvette now. But Ive had it since I was a young man. And man, the stories I have in that car...
Corvettes became more appealing to me the more I learned about them and what cars can do. Its in that space outside of car culture, just looking in, that the idea of them being a “Dad car” pervade.
Also it's the only vehicle GM actually gives a shit about and puts serious effort into. To me it practically exists out of their space time. I still can't believe they produce the latest version, it's so different I didn't even know it was a corvette first couple times I saw it.
I bought a 1982 C3 corvette when I was 19. Choked by the oil crisis, it was cheap, but reliable. The only thing that can fail, and will fail, is the brakes. I bought it with my brother, and my dad, who agreed to cover the insurance. Together we span all lengths of time, all painful memories and memories yet to be made, to revel in the sound of an American V8 making way less power than it can. A testament to manhood, that despite 30 years of difference and hundreds of horsepower, the image of American power is hard to shake. Driving it, slowly, you realize it's not as great as it seems. Just like living in a post-industrial rust belt city, a ruin of what was and could've been. It's still fun, though, and I'd recommend driving a corvette at least once in a lifetime. A corvette is a time machine, the suburban DeLorean, into the eyes and dreams of fathers who now tend for their children's children.
I'm not trying to brag at all but this is my first car. I'm 17 and I've always wanted to own a corvette, so I bought one just before I turned 16. It's completely stock and I'm saving up for an exhaust system right now. I love the car, its amazing.
New to the channel. I’m out thinking about getting a c3 as I came across this video about my favorite vette the c5. Mind you, I’m in a mustang (one of my dream cars) and as I’m listening to the 2nd half of this video being 32 years old I must say that it hits me to my core as I think about time often. What I never thought about is the car dynamic as it plays this crucial part of our lives. We name our cars, work on them, invest in them, create memories in them, and while all this is going on time is moving. The same car I may have confessed my love in a woman for could also be the same car I give up to become a family man. Cars are the closest thing to a Time Machine we have. And within time the only thing we can control is what we do with the time given to us whether we asked for it upon conception or not. This video has earned you a sub. Great work.
I really love the intro to go with this car, it's easily my favorite thing you've done recently And after watching this video, I think it may be one of your best. So poignant, but not dramatic, it was truly beautiful and philosophical
33 year old father of 2 young kids....the late C4 / C5 was my childhood dream car and I've wanted one for probably a decade now. The unfortunate thing is the age of being able to financially afford one is converging with "mid life crisis". I'm currently set on having a yellow C5 with manual...or yellow C4 with LT1/4 with manual. Wish less old guys had bought the auto.
Not gonna lie, the closing monologue had my eyes watering up a lil bit because it brought a bunch of old memories back that put a smile on my face and made grateful for having the experience. Well done sir!
I've slowly been realizing my closest friends are slipping away just because of the tides of life. I also bought a C5 two months ago. I probably would have never drawn the connection between these two, but this video was very timely. I couldn't put it into words, but it didn't feel like coping. More like a tangible proof of shifting interests. Thanks Mr. Regular. Best.
So we've established the C5 driver's uniform... What would that of a C4 be? Cap embroidered with "insert US Navy vessel herel" ? Pastel polo shirt? Cream slacks? Niblick golf shoes? Oh and don't forget a pair of gold-framed RE military sunglasses
This is honestly my dream Corvette. I owned a model-kit car of a C5 in this exact red when I was little. This, along with the new edge mustang (which I own now) are what made me an automotive enthusiast.
I absolutely love mine. Bought it July 30, 2019 at the ripe old age of 20. It was a fixer upper for sure so I only paid $6500 cash after tax, title, and fees. Mechanically sound, cosmetically a piece of work.
Damn, started this review laughing at boomers, and ended it with "Dust in the Wind" rolling over in my head. God damn. Happy Monday, Mr. Regular & Roman.
These videos get me everytime: hilarious opening, leveling up to the climax, then taking it back down with the philosophical reasoning of experience and maturity. Time is a cruel, yet polite bastard. Slowly taking little by little all the while you know it’s happening and yet ignoring it most days. You get little reminders that it hasn’t stopped moving forward; a sort of a tap on the window to let you it’s still out there, waiting for you, always.
Holy S$!+, dude. Did you write that last paragraph? You absolutely nailed what getting old feels like (I have just ascended to the summit, 50, and the journey back down is, sadly, going to go by much quicker)
Hearing the speech at the end of the video confirmed how I felt about my old cars. I don't entirely miss the cars themselves but rather the memories I made in those cars. As long as we're still here we'll have those memories and we can make new ones going forward. Cheers RCR and to my fellow car enthusiasts. Let's all enjoy our lives and the cars we drive ✌🏿
The C5 has always been my favorite car since i was a child, i loved the look of the C5 and everytime i saw one i would say, "look a cornvette!" I called them that for years for some reason and everyone thought it was hilarious. I am 28 now and i own my dream car, a black 2001 C5 Z06.
A great review. The dad car combined with the inevitable ticking away of one's life. But with an LS motor a man can still cling to an image of youth he never actually experienced.
I recently bought a c5 with 37k miles. When i was a kid i never thought i'd own a corvette, and the c5 was my perfect vision of this car. I'm 24 years old now, and i love this car for everything it is. Its got the same radio my mom's 02 tahoe had, the LS has power through every gear, and its the perfect car to drive around with my girl or one of the boys. Thank you RCR for a great review!! (Love getting the midlife crisis remarks lmao)
I love my C5, great milage, great power, its been super reliable. 3 years and i've put on 20,000 miles so far with just general maintanence. Fantastic cars to own and drive!!
I've been subscribed to you for a little over 8 years (your Stanza video was my first one). I think this is, by far, the most eloquently written/scripted video I've seen. I was feeling some type of way about aging as I watched and then you wrapped it up so beautifully at the end. Having a 65 yo dad who has an '04 C5 and a '17 C7 that I drive occasionally balances the line between "midlife crisis" and "getting what you want because you can." Lastly, thank you for the pop-up headlight footage. 🤤
When I bought my 04 C5 Z06 Le Mans edition, I went from 20 to 40 in a split second. Legit I wear the same clothes as my dad most of the time now. Its scary man.
Man, this brought a tear to my eye! One of my favorite car reviews ever. What a fantastic description of aging, and what a wonderful way to explain this car.
This is like classic RCR. Back when I could watch this channel on my lunch break without "hot dicks" flashing in neon on the screen.. Not too say that wasn't hillarious, but when your boss's cubicle is next to yours wellllll ;)
I turned 35 this year. This car came out when I was 9-10 years old, but I loved them, as I was a full on sports car fan boy by then, asking for Road&Track and Car and Driver magazine subscriptions as gifts. It's such a shame I've still never owned one, but by the time I ever do it seems like it won't even be realizing a childhood dream, it'll just be a midlife crisis
Firstly, as an Australian, I don't see a dad car, I see an awesome looking red sportscar of which I had a model when I was 12 years old. Secondly, now at 35, I have to say some jeans, some new balance trainers and a rugby top represents not some joke get up, but the pinnacle of versatility for warmth, ease of movement and comfort, with a cheeky sleeve roll up if the sun comes out. I've married the love of my life, my jobs ok and pays the bills and for my hobbies, so yeah, I'd rock a C5 if I could because that would be cool as shit. Thirdly, my late dad was awesome. Corvettes rock.
Reg, this is a VERY DIFFERENT review of the C5 than your earlier work, the one that had me initially foaming at the mouth, then years later smiling at the grudging acknowledgement that the C5 was, in many ways, a great car. I still own mine 5 years in. It has been exceptional, and YOU have been exceptional!
This is literally my dream car. A red, manual C5 Corvette. Unfortunately, I'm in my 20s and not a dad, so I think that lowers my chances of ever obtaining one. Jokes aside, a good video as always.
The cheapest one near me was 9800, I went to go take a look at it and someone was already pre-aprooved for it. I ended up settling for a much cheaper option in a 04 mustang
The C5 was that car that was brand new as I was just getting old enough to have some sense of fast cars being a thing, and the teardrop rear window with the pop-up headlights is my definition of a fast-looking car. Bonus points of course go to any painted in Corvette Yellow. It's definitely up there in the "Attainable cars once I get a job in my major." category.
My wife bought me a Torch Red C5 coupe, six speed, as a wedding present and I love it. I'm only a rescue dog dad, but I guess it's a kind of dad. My wife laughed and laughed about the Corvette shirts, as I have several that I wear regularly.
I was 8 when I fell in love with Corvettes. I was 39 when I finally got one. I’m 64 now. Neither buying my first Corvette, nor still owning a Corvette have had anything to do with an age. It’s simply, I love Corvettes, always will!
Could you start uploading the raw POVS of your drives? I love the way you treat the car the way it's meant to be treated, no matter the car, and it'd be great to have more POVS to watch!
I've always wanted a Corvette. Beautiful timeless design, v8, manual transmission. I really wish they sold them here in Australia. Settled for Nissan Skylines instead. The C5/C6 is one of my bucket list cars.
My father has owned corvettes since he was in his 20’s. He’s 54 and currently owns a 1980 and a 1998 vette and it’s rubbing off on me bad (at 26). The 90’s retro styling with the pop up lights combined with a roaring V8 and a slick back end with 4 red circle taillights is just so iconic and is unique
You can get a replacement for the missing cover. The 98-02 Trans Am worked the same way. Otherwise if you're stuck in a state with mandatory front plates it's one of the few cars that looks good with a front.

This is rhetorically one of the best episodes in years.
Absolutely !!!!!!!!!
For me it's hard to determine which episode is best, maybe the Fiero, but they are all equally good
@@NeurodivergentSuperiority Oh cool, a Fiero video fan! I always love running into one in the wild.
@@LimitedTimeRoman I ADORRRRED how they described the Fiero as a "perfect girl", such a deep dive into the large world of automotive business
Him saying "Hot dicks" 57 times in that supra video was a thing.
I miss mine so much. I had a 2004 C5 with the HUD and manual. My favorite part was the removable targa top.
All sports cars are dad cars.
Cause only dads can afford the sons of bitches.

Picked up my c5 this year, I’m 35 and love that these are under appreciated because it keeps prices down.
Bro, your long bits (in this case about “time”, towards the end) are masterful and under appreciated. I’ve gone back to your FJ video many times, just to hear your Simulation/Simulacra analysis. Keep up the great content.
Somehow all the effects of listening to The Caretaker without listening to The Caretaker.
I do the exact same thing with the hurst/olds video. Brilliant analysis of how nostalgia becomes a commodity.
Oh yeah, and also the last simile in the ‘07 ford ranger strikes a chord every single time.
that video taught me the difference years ago and I still haven't forgotten it

His Neon video is great too
I just bought a 02 z06 and I’m exactly as old as it is. I bought one of the best machines of all time, and I’m so glad nobody my age realizes that because I was able to afford this car. I love this car and will probably drive it until the day I die.
18 years later and the C5 still looks beautiful.....and the legend that is the LS would be born
That’s when you know the designers hit on something timeless. The design still doesn’t look dated today (save for the headlights).
And yes, all hail the LS’s Book of Genesis. “And the car gods said…let there be torque, and there was torque.”
Next to the c2, the C5 is my second favorite corvette. It looks so sleek, especially with the headlights hidden. Such a good looking car.

Your words honor the spirit of Mr. Regular. Make the jump!
Sometimes he hits the nail on the head
How are you not more successful? It’s baffling to me. You’re one of the hidden gems of the entire entertainment Industry. Good job.
Between telling the story of a great car, to the story of the circle of life, you my friend, are a true asset to this world. Your work gets us laughing, crying, pondering into deep parts of our souls, and for that I say THANK YOU RCR!
Well said. 👊🏽
It's like mr.bean's McLaren
Wow, this video was deep, especially the last bit about time. Wonderfully written and edited. I got a C5 when I was 25 and sold it a few years back. Best car I’ve ever owned and I miss it.
Ha ha ha I'm 25 and I'm thinking of buying one
The high gears are indeed very high, 6th gear going 55 feels like lugging it (but you can lug the shit out of it and it doesn't stutter).
I bought a fairly low mileage C5Z for less than a used Civic and people act like I bought a new C8 off the showroom floor for 100 grand, non-car people just have no idea, it's a fucking space ship to them (then you get inside and it's like being 10 and getting driven to school in a Cavalier). When I was like 16 I remember having conversations to the effect of "American cars aren't good like Japanese cars, except the Vette and that costs way too much and smokes everything but is in a whole other class and doesn't count." Now I can choose between a wrong year S2K, an RX-7 FD with bad seals, half of an N/A MK4 Supra or a beautiful Vette grandpa never drove for ~$20K
It's never been about image for me, I was never into the image when I had Miata 20 years before it was cool cause it was the best handling car I could afford, when I had a WRX I just wanted a practical car that could move , the C5/6 Vette is just the performance bargain of our time in so many ways.
The only issue with the fuel consumption is that I feed it the 93 it deserves.
it is really great the prices have held pretty steady over the years, even in the last couple. and the thing is they are real performance cars, depending on the model, but it’s a good base if you really want to make it fast
price to performance here is outstanding
I drove a C6 once and I was also very surprised with the drivability of the engine even at those insanely low revs, there's just torque everywhere.
I can do 5th gear in my Mustang GT at 45 mph. I love V8 torque.
I just bought a C5 last month. Loving every inch of it!

Man, this video epitomizes why I love RCR. From the history of the car and where it fits into our society, to facing time itself and the mysterious "someday" that never comes, and our own mortality. Really excellent work, guys. This will be on the RCR greatest hits album, for sure
I remember when you did the first C5 video. "If you have an LS, you win. You win." Greatest line I heard for the Corvette.
Did Mr. Regular suddenly hit the Mid Life Crisis Mode?
Always was
He was born in it
He never was not. He wasn’t born, he just spawned into the world as a 41 year old.
First time? 😜
They let him drive a C5 Corvette for a couple weeks and it pushed him over the edge. Well, further over the edge.
Came for a c5 review, left with a hollowing sense of existential dread. Thanks rcr
I'm not trying to brag at all but this is my first car. I'm 17 and I've always wanted to own a corvette, so I bought one just before I turned 16. It's completely stock and I'm saving up for an exhaust system right now. I love the car, its amazing.
Seeing Mr. Regular run down a Tesla in a C5 made me laugh, and made my day.
Great work.

I really love the intro to go with this car, it's easily my favorite thing you've done recently
And after watching this video, I think it may be one of your best. So poignant, but not dramatic, it was truly beautiful and philosophical
Bought my C5 at 18 after growing up riding in my dads z06 when I was little. Hands down my favourite car I’ve ever owned.
Sciatica!
I went from laughing to absolute dread of my own mortality and terror of the passing of time faster than a stock C5's quarter mile time
I just bought an 04 Z06 earlier this year. Love that thing. An absolute blast to drive.
i was expecting a full on corvette stereotype review with a deeper "twist" if you will and you guys did not disappoint
And the EU spec had such a deeply rear look with the (superior) amber indicators and bolted on fog ligt
Watching this on my 41st birthday - thanks -that really hit home. Can't even buy a C5 here, but the message - wow. Might buy a C5 Citroën.
Damn, started this review laughing at boomers, and ended it with "Dust in the Wind" rolling over in my head.

The declaration about time at the end, absolutely moving. Been a fan for countless years and I appreciate the reminder about life and reality. 👏
(Love getting the midlife crisis remarks lmao)
I love my C5, great milage, great power, its been super reliable. 3 years and i've put on 20,000 miles so far with just general maintanence. Fantastic cars to own and drive!!
Your best video in a while, but I wasn't ready for the last part... My wife still doesn't understand why a car review video from TH-cam got me crying.
The car is good, but the script is what TOTALLY WINS
That time essay was amazing, I really felt all of those words in my soul. This was a spectacular episode, your writing is insane man
I've dreamed about having a car like this since I was a little kid, when they were still new.
When I bought my 04 C5 Z06 Le Mans edition, I went from 20 to 40 in a split second. Legit I wear the same clothes as my dad most of the time now. Its scary man.
I've been inloved with the C5 (the targa top with the big rear glass) ever since I saw it in NFS III hot pursuit when I was 4 back in 2003.
Man, this brought a tear to my eye! One of my favorite car reviews ever. What a fantastic description of aging, and what a wonderful way to explain this car.
As a new 28 year old dad with a C4 in the garage, this was great.
I’m 24 and I bought one in 2019 for $7000 on a salvage title. It’s definitely possible.

I've always wanted a Corvette. Beautiful timeless design, v8, manual transmission. I really wish they sold them here in Australia. Settled for Nissan Skylines instead. The C5/C6 is one of my bucket list cars.
This man took away my fear of growing old and ugly.
you're not alone bud.. i too am fugly..lol
Cool story bro, but spoiler alert, you will get older and uglier than you can possibly imagine, If you're lucky.
Overall good looking car. Too bad the front end is ruined by the molded-in license plate frame.
Thankfully it has a plastic front bumper. Easy swap
There is a bolt-on cover for that from the factory. Apparently this one has been lost.
You can get a replacement for the missing cover. The 98-02 Trans Am worked the same way. Otherwise if you're stuck in a state with mandatory front plates it's one of the few cars that looks good with a front.
