Since her powers are insect-inspired, her being able to leap makes sense…which means she shouldn’t have needed to ask Drax for help getting over the gate.

I think that James Gunn used the animation segment to make this 2022 Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special a little similar to the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. I heard that 1978 show was James Gunn's inspiration for this 2022 show.

    • @loganbigmo

I think it's also because the actor who played Young Quill is an adult now, so they would've had to recast + deage Rooker and Sean Gunn. So on top of paying homage, it was more effective overall to just animate the section.

    • @RlyBadMusic361

The appearance of Cy-Kill (the GoBot leader of the evil Renegades) is actually even more significant. First, it's obviously wild that not only do GoBots exist in the MCU for real, but that EITHER Earthlings are aware of them, OR there also just happens to be a media franchise that coincidentally looks just like them and has the same name as them. But, it's also significant to note the weird, convoluted history that Marvel, GoBots, and Transformers all share. Marvel, of course was the original publisher of Transformers comics, and the characters did crossover with The Avengers at one point. Although GoBots and Transformers were originally separate franchises, Hasbro bought out Tonka in 1991, and suddenly both were owned by the same company. This resulted in numerous cameos of various GoBots in Transformers media, even going so far as to suggest that the GoBots were the ancestors of the Transformers. Most notably, Cy-Kill would frequently appear in the background of IDW Transformer comics getting killed. So, the fact that we see Drax beating up Cy-Kill, specifically, may be a reference to this tradition.

I hate to say it, but this might be my favorite Marvel property to come out in the last few years, other than the newest Spiderman. I'm an old lady w/ an old lady's sense of humor. I LOLed Kevin Bacon ran from Peter and Nebula went after him holding up her gun; you can hear her yell "you can't hide from me, Bacon!" Dunno why but that cracked me up; along w/ her intense dance moves, Nebula was a delight on her part, I wish we saw more of her.
I'd love to see what Nebula and Rocket were up to during the Blip. Can you imagine them sharing an apartment on Earth, sporadically going out on missions either domestic or interstellar? I think it'd be a hoot

That's a good point, about Peter getting his powers back. If Celestials are made of Vibranium, then Ego could have had a bunch of it, and passed that Vibranium infusion to him, in a similar manner to Namor and the Black Panthers. And Knowhere should be too, so maybe Groot can grow himself some heart-shaped herb off of it.

I thought about this dilemma, when actors, who play characters in the movie also get mentioned in the same movie (or films where they play get mentioned), and I think this is not necessarily a contradiction. It is often, that someone says to you that you resemble some actor and this could be the same for the character - they are just look very similar to some actor. So Klaus Schmidt was just a guy who looked similar to modern day Kevin Bacon, no threat to fabric of reality here

A minor callback I noticed: In his early career, Rocket was part of a colony of anthropomorphised animals tasked with looking after some mentally-ill people they called the Loonies. The Loonies were able to make a snack called 'animal crackers' which they paid the animals in exchange for their care, which were delicious and addictive. So Rocket bribing Cosmo to work by feeding her treats is a role-reversal from that.

But... you didn't mention that apparently, in the MCU, GoBots are real as in they really exist somewhere in the MCU. Not the toys, the actually, Dog's honest GoBots exist! But on a series note, I loved this. It was very lighthearted and fun and it had some elements to bring to the bigger MCU. Mantis being Peter's half-sister is huge but not just the Guardian's but also things like the Thunderbolts. Like, if that really was Bucky's arm.. when, where, and how did Nebula get it? Will Bucky only have one arm in Thunderbolts? I seriously doubt the Wakanda's are going to make him another one because some blue alien chick stole his last one. I loved Groot's gifts for everyone, but yes, Kraglin's was the best one. Nebula was fun when she started to dance, showing she's starting to soften up just a little. But back to Mantis again with all the development she got. After Endgame people were saying she shouldn't have been there, she's not a fighter. Mantis is a fighter and she kicked some arse. But it was just fun to see of her scenes and really, you could argue she was the main cast member which is great because she's always been supporting. Pom did such a great job with the character and she got done right. Ones again, James Gunn has proven he is a genius film maker.

"Gunn explained the moment in a tweet as he revealed Nebula 'took a trip to earth and tore it off his body because she was feeling so Christmasy.'"
When one fan pushed back on the answer, and called it forced inclusion, Gunn responded with "I’m not sure how a cyborg with advanced alien technology tearing off a human’s arm because of an overabundance of Christmas Spirit is forced inclusion, but now it’s canon sorry."
So according to the writer and director at least, that is precisely what she did and it is canon to the MCU as well.
