    Nice work Richard. They’ll take a hit and hold up nice. I fitted 3” extended fibreglass guards to my 40 to cover the swampers. Looked like a flying nun, but kept the cops happy…

    Well done, very well styled and structural as well, I would highly recommend doing your rock sliders before you get it on the road, from experience the itch to go bush is high and if you take on some bog holes or tricky tracks one of the first things that tends to get dented or scraped is your sills/doors.

    Those guard looks great! Might vibrate and make a bit of noise on those corrugated roads tho might be worth putting some sikaflex between.
    As painful as it would be it’d be nice to skin the underside aswell so they don’t hold so much mud/sand etc

      Hi Daniel, I like the sikaflex idea. Gawd it would be painful to skin the underside as well, but agreed probably the right thing to do. Could be a good job during lockdown.

      @@DesignedandBuilt
      Hi Richard
      You wouldn't have to panel the whole underside. Just thickly filleting Sikaflex it in at each cross pipe and scrub bar will stop vibration and stop dirt and moisture getting in the crevice between the pipes and panels.

      Double down on what David B said. That's exactly what I do with, my alloy topped tube tray.
      Bostik, SealNflex 600ml sausages from Total Tools, from memory like $8 a sausage. Then 40mm paint stirrer, sanded to a smooth radius, dipped in Windex to smooth it out.
      For removal, one slice with a long blade Stanley knife. For refit, if you're lazy like me, one bead of the same stuff, on your cut line, seals it back up.
      For some magical chemical reasons, mud, like paint, doesn't stick to that Bostik goop.

    Looking great! Instead of paint, would the tube work be better off in powder coat? More durable.

    • @DesignedandBuilt
      @DesignedandBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Andrew, yeah I'm not to sure what I'm going to do. I heard powder coat is more durable but once it gets scratched up then the layers just start coming off? I haven't had a heap of experience with it so open to suggestions

    Richard how do you intend to prevent dissimilar metal corrosion between the steel tube and alloy plate?

    • @DesignedandBuilt

      @@DesignedandBuilt it's worth using tef-gel on screws that connect dissimilar metals as well. Sounds like you're all over it. Loving the build mate. Looking forward to starting mine. Cheers, Andy

    Why is it on all the 40/80 build you have to flare the guards so much. Can the offset be changed to a 0+ rim rather and a 0-?

    I am seriously loving the detail, and the build quality, but,...I am noting that everything is being built in serious thicknesses of steel, not light gauge stuff, serious engineering-grade stuff. I am now beginning to worry about the all up weight of this vehicle, are you planning on getting an upgraded GMV? Are you beefing the brakes up to cater for this 2500kg plus vehicle? Just wondering.

    • @DesignedandBuilt
      @DesignedandBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Rod, yeah really good point. I have a feeling it's going to come to around 2000kg without a touring setup. I think GVM is around 2900 kg, I think I can upgrade the brakes relatively easy, wasn't planning on a GVM upgrade but once I've weight it I'll go from there.

    • @rododonnell9783

      @@DesignedandBuilt Not sure what your plate will say (Should be in the driver's door jam), but others I have seen (Canadian models online) are 3040kg. Up to 1000kg for the touring setup should be heaps. I am loving the work, keep it up.

    • @DesignedandBuilt
      @DesignedandBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Mate, pick a width to suit your track and then we used a bevel off the car. We just copied the exact angles/dimensions of a stock wheel arch. and then changed the width. The Jig really helps but you basically need a car without a motor to do that. There are off shelf options as well, hope that helps.
