Always love when Meat Eater posts hunts of smaller antler deer being harvested. My wife and I hunt South Texas and are under antler restrictions. We see 130 class bucks that don’t do the 13” inside minimum… You can’t eat antlers boys.
Enjoyed the video! For all those saying there’s no public land in South Texas, look again. There’s plenty of places south of San Antonio all the way to the valley. TPWD has everything listed on their website.
That public land area is practically like my back yard and hunt it often. I’ve had the opportunity to shoot a Mouflon Ram and seen someone take a double drop tine buck. Great video!
@@208RidgerunnersSorry for late response. This is an annual permit if you haven’t already checked it out. $40 for the year and yes definitely worth checking out.
The only Public Land that allows Whitetail hunting, that's remotely close to South Texas is Kerr County (Kerrville) which is more central Texas. Unless they consider this public land hunt and its actually state or federal land "Draw Hunt" that they won......I could be wrong but being around Uvalde area, I would love to know of a South Texas public land hunt that allows Whitetails
What nonsense. I was there all week. Nobody is there. Hunted public dove fields six times this september. 1400 acre field with one group of three one time, and the other field 100% to myself every time. There are fewer hunters than ever by true numbers and per capita. In addition, Texas uses the APH numbers to judge how much land to lease or open. More people=more land available.
@thopkins2271 Yes, the fact that it wasn't swamped w/people during the 2-day period between the time it was posted (10/06) and your comment (10/08) is a clear indicator that the video will have zero impact on hunting pressure in the area, lol. There are plenty of opportunities to hunt birds and small game on public land here. However, the demand for public land open to hunting whitetails far exceeds the supply in TX.
@@z_manbearpig Yes. But really that demand is overwhelmingly stronger in rifle season, and if people aren't buying their APH, and just as importantly checking into units and using it, the state will not lease more. They use that system to judge pressure and evaluate the need for leases. Perhaps they eventually move to a lotto for more units. Good. The dude who is in Dallas, pays just as much if not more for that public land...with dramatically less opportunity. The argument against this is that you either want other people to subsidize your hidden gem for you to benefit from, or you would do away with it entirely and move to a system of 100% private land and expensive leases. Because you don't get to take tax dollars from Dallas and not let them use it. Or wherever.

I think they are hunting Kerr County public land even though that's Central Texas. "South Texas and Hispanic" theme pulls more views and sounds better. I could be wrong but there is no Whitetail Public Land South of Kerr County
@@holmeshotrodsandcycles3195I’m not sure if that’s Kerr, looks more like south of San Antonio than west but seeing how hard it is to draw tags at Kerr I haven’t hunted there yet. Last year was 2732 applicants for 10 tags for the deer management hunt (only hunt open in December). With the way the point system works here you have to apply a lot of years to draw those tags. The skill of these guys that hunt while filming is incredible.
Very true. Not just the hunter, but the camera crew as well. Perhaps especially the camera crew.
@chaseself5420 True, but the ability to haul even modern digital camera gear in a still hunting situation without getting picked off is impressive.
