I feel like Eveline would've been a lot more effective as a villain if her (child) voice actor was better. Her performance just came off as forced, over-the-top childish and trying way too hard to be 'creepy.' Her old lady voice actress was fine-- she didn't really have that much to do, but the few lines she got, she aced. I actually felt kind of sorry for her when she said "_Why does everyone hate me?_" And I *did* really like the element of 'she was right in front of us the whole time, but we never saw her.' Because it makes perfect sense for there to be a Granny Baker, and there's even Grandma's Room on the map. But then you realize that no one ever, ever mentions a 'Grandma,' and you remember that photo of the old lady at the very beginning of the game labeled 'E-0001,' and it all falls into place. It was a pretty great twist.
Yeah, Kid Eveline and Zoe's voice acting were by far the weakest in the game. I meant to mention it at the end, but I kinda can't believe that some of Zoe's voice lines where her accent clearly changes are in the final game.
The first couple of phone calls from Zoe seemed passable, but every bit of dialogue after seemed to change. What was supposed to be a southern drawl turned into a British accent, which then turned into an awkward american/english accent after fucks were no longer being given.

In those messages, Lucas clearly said that he wasn't under her control anymore thanks to "them" and that Eveline was so stupid and childish that she didn't even realize it... So how could that person be Eveline, and how would that make any sense...? Lucas was clearly talking to someone else ABOUT Eveline, so it could never be her.

So... am I the only one that felt really, really bad for Evelyn? She's lived her entire life as a bioweapon, being manipulated and experimented on and the one note explaining her hallucinogenic abilities even proposed that the “family" theme could stem from her desire to simply be loved by the parents she never had. I think the line that really hit me was when you prick her with the necrotoxin and she asks, in a defeated, whimpering voice “why does everyone hate me?" Yes, she's violent and cruel, but she's acting that way because she's unfathomably miserable and alone. She's a sad, angry, scared little girl lashing out at the world that spurned her. She never had real parents and never knew genuine love from anyone; all she could do was mind-control others into thinking they were her parents as a means to cope. I don't know about anyone else... but I really do feel sympathy for the poor girl. I hope she, like the Bakers, finds peace in death that life wouldn't let her have. ...I guess it also doesn't help that I'm a bit of a bleeding heart and seeing little kids/elderly people crying makes my soul ache. Aw well. :(
Oh wow, having Evie turn out to be the grandmother was a nice twist. I don't know if anyone else noticed (probably) but when the grandmother thinks she's alone she hums 'Go tell Aunt Rhody' which is what I believe Evie was humming in the mine. And anyone else notice how similar the models of Mia and Zoe are? To be honest when I saw the first two together I thought they were sisters. But thank you John for playing this game and please keep up all the fantastic work you do!

I liked Eveline as a grandma better--She's subtly creepy, when you find her in the halls and such... The child version is kinda annoying for some reason, especially the voice... or maybe I just don't really like the creepy child trope as it's used so much. Overall, I like the Bakers more than Evie as a villain... Also, I refuse to believe that was the Chris we all know and (maybe) love. It doesn't look like him at all... If it is him, what happened? So many questions... I'm willing to wait for the PC DLC, too. But nonetheless, thanks for playing this for us and yourself, John!
What's it matter if it looks like him or not? If anything, the Umbrella symbol changed colors. Maybe the company was rebuilt? 1 half trying to clean up the mess the original did and the other still trying to continue it's havoc.
The only thing I kinda wished if there were a few more stealth mechanics. Like throwing objects to distract the bakers or molded, or at least a peeking system. Other than that, game was great.
Yeah, I agree. Sadly, the only time you really stealth is when you're hiding from Jack/Marguerite in their first couple sequences, and the rest of the game is more focused on shooting, so I understand why they didn't implement too many stealth mechanics.

As an RE fan since the 90's, I loved this game. One minor gripe of mine is that I kinda wish Capcom did more with Zoe. If I were Ethan and I was interacting with a member of the family that's trying to kill me over the phone and she was telling me what to do, I wouldn't trust her in a million years. I feel like there should have been several parts of the game where you're presented with a choice to either trust Zoe or ignore her directions, which could affect the ending you get or how the story unfolds. She started off all mysterious and creepy, but instead of a cool character she just wound up being nothing more than a plot device.
Why do people compare this game to Outlast 2? The game hasn´t even come out yet, just the demo! I agree with your review, the game has a really good combination of horror and action. If it was all horror it would look like PT, RE has action among jumpscares and tension, and this really nailed it balancing a really dark and creepy environment with tons of action. And thank you for getting the bad ending as well, loved your playthrough. This game really nailed it with the boss battles of Jack and Marguerite, specially the chainsaw battle, it´s like they really experimented mixing tons of elements in different games into one and nailed it pretty well.
It was kinda subtle, so i didn't pick it up at first (or im just dumb) plus, it wasn't a requirement to read the documents, so i wouldn't consider it a spoil. plus it would've been kind of badly set up if they didn't hint gamma was actually eveline, it would just be like "lol jk evies grandma actually" and not to mention no one ever mentions grandma, and when you pick up a picture of an old lady near the beginning of the game its labeled "E-0001", which is also similar but wayyyy more subtle
The old Resident Evil games were obviously supposed to be scary horror games when they came out and back in those days the bad voice acting was obviously not done on purpose and was not considered as bad or funny as it is today and everybody that played those games took it very seriously and felt they were extremely scary and disturbing games so i hate it when people today say that the old games were never supposed to be scary or was never supposed to be taken seriously because like he said in the video they are just dated compared to todays horror games.
i don't think anyone else has played this better than you on youtube, Jhon. well done. and by the way, i actually liked both RE 4 and 5. i didn't like 6 but 0 to 5 were very good. and yes there was a RE 0. anyways as a fan of 4 and 5, i enjoyed 7. the first person angle doesn't bother me, but i can see why people don't like it. They're just use to the way the original games and aren't comfortable with the change. but it is something that most games are doing lately, not just Outlast. so i wouldn't consider it a copy at all.
three things. it is Umbrella Corp however, besides the color change if you look at the white sections it has the symbol for health. because this is set 16yr after the Racoon City incident (found in a newspaper) it's safe to assume maybe Umbrella is good. Now, Mia doesn't work for Umbrella Corp. She works for Tentsu which is a rival company for Umbrella. Lucas is in contact with Tentsu as well. and finally, that is indeed Chris Redfield as confirmed by the credits. anyway, absolutely loved your playthrough of this series!

Would it have been slightly better if Eveline was a little boy instead? Not trying to sound prejudiced or anything but the creepy little girl trope has been done horror games plenty of times already so the segments where Ethan and Mia began hallucinating and seeing her seemed really out of place. But in the end, whether Evie was a boy or a girl, a kid, an adult, or elderly it wouldn't have mattered. I personally don't find Eveline as a very well-developed character. I do like how she's a living bioweapon (in an appearance of a child and why that was explained), that she was the grandma all along, and that her ultimate motive was that she wanted a family but otherwise she came off as really bratty and not very sympathetic. Sympathetic villains are becoming a tiresome trope too but even when she's not, she's not even close to some other non-sympathetic RE villain characters in terms of rank. Design-wise too, she looks like a copy of Alessa Gillespie (Silent Hill: Origins) and Alma Wade (and many other creepy girls that have appeared in various horror stuff). Don't get me wrong, I think it's still a good game but starting from the video tape sequence on the ship, the story began to go downhill for me. Still interested to see *what the hell is up with "REDFIELD" and blue and white UMBRELLA??*

In case anyone is wondering, "quorum sensing" (around 18:35) especially in relationship to bacteria, is when bacteria send chemical signals to other bacteria to indicate a message to allow the bacteria to work together to achieve a goal and to alert other bacteria of their presence. So there are signals for things like "I'm here" or "release toxin" etc. Maybe this will help with understanding how Eveline controls the people she's infected. Great videos John! Going strong! (there's also a TED talk on this topic if anyone would like to learn more about quorum sensing)

Fabulous playthrough, and I love John for playthroughs because he makes a lot of effort both in his analysis, his critical thinking in the game context, and the fact that he'd bother to go back and record the differences when choosing Zoe instead of just getting one ending and calling it. And I admire RE7 so much, because, as plenty of people have said, it is somewhat of a return to old elements for the series and making it feel much more like there are times you're helpless or need to be strategic instead of being more of a mad shooter, which it's felt like they've moved toward since RE4.
I really liked this, back to its psychological roots. I felt it wasn't an RE game, until I heard your thoughts. You are right. It *is* an RE game. It's gritty, raw, great voice acting, for the most part, looked amazing and sounded great too.
I just wanna take the time right now to say thank you john ..ive been here for 4 years and ive been enjoying every upload since, I love your videos and commentary especially those awkward but somehow hilarious jokes you make from time to time. Sigh ive never missed a video and i never will, Keep it up you.
i think part of the weakness is they load you up before the salt mines, AND leave tons of loot scattered around to distract you. if they had made it a segment where you HAVE to run, you DON'T have enough ammo to kill all of them (maybe just one or two that get in your way) it wouldn't have killed the tension as much as it did. other games have done this where there is a high stakes scene that, narratively, should be fast-paced and tense. but by leaving loot, players will WANT to stick around and gather the things on the ground in case there's some super powerful last minute item that they can get for the next boss. even you were apologizing for looting, because you recognized it was stalling the intensity of the moment! the boat was just too many last minute puzzles that took extra long because you were left without a lot of things to defend yourself with. plus they made you go through the area TWICE by having the taped segment and the present time segment. it was absolutely padded for time and in the worst way. given mia's job they could have made it a really fun bit where you see she has these various skills she kept secret from ethan. not just knowing how to wield a gun and using some more advanced tech with the corrosives and such, but some skill that made her valuable to the mission to escort eveline in the first place. i don't know, maybe hacking cause that's an easy indicator of her being involved with something a lot less ordinary than baby-sitting. don't make it a "get item a for slot b" quest. show mia taking things that are broken and fixing them with know-how. the grandma twist was great though. i was wondering what it would result in, and that was just the right amount of surprising and satisfying. maybe i missed some signs, i don't know, but i didn't see it coming. anyway those are my end thoughts since you mentioned the boat and salt mines being the weakest parts. it wouldn't take a lot to improve them, even. just quickening the pace of both already makes them a little more painless.
John, you're my personal favourite youtuber for gaming. I love how you don't do all the stupid screaming like the 'big' youtubers, and how you play the game for what it is. Fully enjoyed watching this series, deserve so many more subscribers.
The first RE games were absolutely freaking scary. I watched someone play RE 2 and then bought the first and third. Thanks to those and the first Silent Hill were responsible for many sleepless horrified nights in my childhood. This definitely did take a turn back to the origins of horror gaming, but I still feel like they did play on the outlast, and paranormal elements quite a bit (I.e. the sliding through walls, hallucinations and monsters just appearing out of thin air, like that one in the mine).
During the credits, the newspaper's text read like an owner's manual for Eveline. There's some interesting info in there for anyone wanting to delve more into the lore. Also, I don't think I could hear the cellphone vibrating after the credits in the second ending (the one where Ethan tosses his phone) which leaves me to believe that this is an important clue. Throughout the story, the only characters Ethan interacts with on the phone are his friend in the very beginning, Zoe, and Lucas. I'm assuming it wasn't the friend, as we do not have really any info that would lead me to believe that this character was important. In the first ending, Zoe is still alive and is either still at the Baker's home (possibly hiding) or now in Umbrella Custody. I think Zoe is still very important to the story (how did she learn to make the necrotoxin?). Lucas seems to have escaped and, from the e-mails in the mine, seemed to be working with whomever created Eveline. So... who was the phone?

I also liked the first part of the game better: the stealth, Bakers and puzzles were a lot more entertaining and threatening than the Molded/Boat/Mines. Hey John I wanted to mention that I've played through the Mia ending, and came to your playthrough to get the Zoe ending. My buddy and I had some of the similar thoughts as you regarding this new Umbrella logo, and why Redfield is working with them!! crazy stuff, but I certainly found the 1st person to be a good fit for this game. transitioned well, minus the shooting mechanics while backup up(have to turn and run to create distance.). We are going to start recording our first videos on this game running madhouse difficulty, and we are pretty excited about it! I still cant believe how well this game managed to keep the anxiety level and intenseness up while playing for 7-8 hrs. I enjoy your videos greatly, and wanted to take the time to thank you for not only your time in making these, but having a clear gift of being able to narrate without being too talkative, or ruining the story. You have good timing, and actually contribute what I feel are great points throughout the experience. As this is my first delve into making a video, I'd love some tips, or advice...and if this takes off, I would love to collaborate on some projects with you! This was seriously an amazing playthrough, every day I was filled with anticipation and excitement for what was to come. I can't wait for the DLC playthrough, but fuck spending 90 dollars just to have it a few weeks sooner. As long as you eventually play it then I will be happy. Plus it draws out the fun of the curiosity for what the DLC holds.

Wow. Loved this game and loved this playthrough. My ONLY complaint about this game is that you never got to see Ethan's face. I understand why the developers did that, though. But yeah, this game totally went above and beyond my expectations for it. I think, however, that the story was the best part of it. And seeing it tie into the whole Resident Evil storyline at the end just blew me away. Also, I can't believe how scary it was. Aside from jumpscares, which are found in just about every horror game, I found that it catered to many different fears, from losing limbs to bugs and insects (which I personally am afflicted with) to claustrophobia and many others, I think many people who have these fears would find it terrifying, (as I did). Also, please play the DLC for this game, HC. PLEASE. I personally really want to see it and I don't mind waiting 3 weeks or so for it. Please play it when it comes out on PC.

I was 11 when RE1 was released. Growing up with three older brothers it was hard to miss it. Literally the scariest game I had ever seen, but because of RE1, I have been intrigued with scary horror games ever since. I have yet to find any other person who plays these games that can enlighten, entertain and keep me interested the way John does. This game is almost meta. I actually have a systemic fungal infection that's degenerative and somewhat slowly kiling me by affecting my organs (yay) so watching this is somewhat like a personal hell. But it's RE and I just had to. RE7 wasn't what I expected (my favorite is 4) but I'm loyal to the series.
I know this was 4 yrs ago, but hope you're having in there. I kinda get it bc had toxic mold exposure and it's been hell dealing with the illness afterwards. Very aggressive stuff.
Awesome playthrough! Was really grateful that you went back to cover the alternate ending as well, and thought your end commentary was spot on. If anything I almost feel like it would be more refreshing to just sit and wait and do a DLC recording when it comes to PC. TH-cam is an RE7-fest right now which is great but it might be seen as a nice change to have a youtuber you enjoy watching work on some other things to break it up and come back to it in February. I know even if I watch someone else play it, I'm still going to watch it when you put it out for your unique perspective anyway.

Nope. I got it for PSP but the capture device I got for it doesn't work. I was waiting for the Steam version but apparently they replaced the art and it sucks? Everyone's just telling me to emulate it now. Maybe I'll just break down and do that some day
Oh, you should definitely play it. I've already watched Cry and Minx's play-throughs, but I'd definitely be down to watch it again if you played it at some point in the future. The Steam rework isn't terrible, but yeah, I do think it's a downgrade from the PSP version. Emulating it might be the better choice.

Eveline thought everyone was under her control, including Lucas. In those messages, Lucas clearly said that he wasn't under her control anymore thanks to "them" and that Eveline was so stupid and childish that she didn't even realize it...
So how could that person be Eveline, and how would that make any sense...? Lucas was clearly talking to someone else ABOUT Eveline, so it could never be her.

So... am I the only one that felt really, really bad for Evelyn? She's lived her entire life as a bioweapon, being manipulated and experimented on and the one note explaining her hallucinogenic abilities even proposed that the “family" theme could stem from her desire to simply be loved by the parents she never had.
I think the line that really hit me was when you prick her with the necrotoxin and she asks, in a defeated, whimpering voice “why does everyone hate me?"
Yes, she's violent and cruel, but she's acting that way because she's unfathomably miserable and alone. She's a sad, angry, scared little girl lashing out at the world that spurned her. She never had real parents and never knew genuine love from anyone; all she could do was mind-control others into thinking they were her parents as a means to cope. I don't know about anyone else... but I really do feel sympathy for the poor girl. I hope she, like the Bakers, finds peace in death that life wouldn't let her have.
...I guess it also doesn't help that I'm a bit of a bleeding heart and seeing little kids/elderly people crying makes my soul ache. Aw well. :(
Oh wow, having Evie turn out to be the grandmother was a nice twist. I don't know if anyone else noticed (probably) but when the grandmother thinks she's alone she hums 'Go tell Aunt Rhody' which is what I believe Evie was humming in the mine. And anyone else notice how similar the models of Mia and Zoe are? To be honest when I saw the first two together I thought they were sisters. I liked Eveline as a grandma better--She's subtly creepy, when you find her in the halls and such... The child version is kinda annoying for some reason, especially the voice... or maybe I just don't really like the creepy child trope as it's used so much. Overall, I like the Bakers more than Evie as a villain...
Also, I refuse to believe that was the Chris we all know and (maybe) love. It doesn't look like him at all... If it is him, what happened? So many questions... I'm willing to wait for the PC DLC, too.

What's it matter if it looks like him or not? If anything, the Umbrella symbol changed colors. Maybe the company was rebuilt? 1 half trying to clean up the mess the original did and the other still trying to continue it's havoc.

The only thing I kinda wished if there were a few more stealth mechanics. Like throwing objects to distract the bakers or molded, or at least a peeking system. Other than that, game was great.
Well this game suggested that close combat isn't a good idea in this game. Plus, it would really save ammo and healing.

Yeah, I agree. Sadly, the only time you really stealth is when you're hiding from Jack/Marguerite in their first couple sequences, and the rest of the game is more focused on shooting, so I understand why they didn't implement too many stealth mechanics.

As an RE fan since the 90's, I loved this game. One minor gripe of mine is that I kinda wish Capcom did more with Zoe. If I were Ethan and I was interacting with a member of the family that's trying to kill me over the phone and she was telling me what to do, I wouldn't trust her in a million years. I feel like there should have been several parts of the game where you're presented with a choice to either trust Zoe or ignore her directions, which could affect the ending you get or how the story unfolds. She started off all mysterious and creepy, but instead of a cool character she just wound up being nothing more than a plot device.

Why do people compare this game to Outlast 2? The game hasn´t even come out yet, just the demo! I agree with your review, the game has a really good combination of horror and action. If it was all horror it would look like PT, RE has action among jumpscares and tension, and this really nailed it balancing a really dark and creepy environment with tons of action. And thank you for getting the bad ending as well, loved your playthrough.
This game really nailed it with the boss battles of Jack and Marguerite, specially the chainsaw battle, it´s like they really experimented mixing tons of elements in different games into one and nailed it pretty well.
Why spoil who Eveline is in a few notes devs? The big reveal should've been when you stab her in the neck.
It was kinda subtle, so i didn't pick it up at first (or im just dumb) plus, it wasn't a requirement to read the documents, so i wouldn't consider it a spoil. plus it would've been kind of badly set up if they didn't hint gamma was actually eveline, it would just be like "lol jk evies grandma actually" and not to mention no one ever mentions grandma, and when you pick up a picture of an old lady near the beginning of the game its labeled "E-0001", which is also similar but wayyyy more subtle

The old Resident Evil games were obviously supposed to be scary horror games when they came out and back in those days the bad voice acting was obviously not done on purpose and was not considered as bad or funny as it is today and everybody that played those games took it very seriously and felt they were extremely scary and disturbing games so i hate it when people today say that the old games were never supposed to be scary or was never supposed to be taken seriously because like he said in the video they are just dated compared to todays horror games.
i don't think anyone else has played this better than you on youtube, Jhon. well done. and by the way, i actually liked both RE 4 and 5. i didn't like 6 but 0 to 5 were very good. and yes there was a RE 0. anyways as a fan of 4 and 5, i enjoyed 7. the first person angle doesn't bother me, but i can see why people don't like it. They're just use to the way the original games and aren't comfortable with the change. but it is something that most games are doing lately, not just Outlast. so i wouldn't consider it a copy at all.

three things. it is Umbrella Corp however, besides the color change if you look at the white sections it has the symbol for health. because this is set 16yr after the Racoon City incident (found in a newspaper) it's safe to assume maybe Umbrella is good. Now, Mia doesn't work for Umbrella Corp. She works for Tentsu which is a rival company for Umbrella. Lucas is in contact with Tentsu as well. and finally, that is indeed Chris Redfield as confirmed by the credits.

Would it have been slightly better if Eveline was a little boy instead? Not trying to sound prejudiced or anything but the creepy little girl trope has been done horror games plenty of times already so the segments where Ethan and Mia began hallucinating and seeing her seemed really out of place.
But in the end, whether Evie was a boy or a girl, a kid, an adult, or elderly it wouldn't have mattered. I personally don't find Eveline as a very well-developed character. I do like how she's a living bioweapon (in an appearance of a child and why that was explained), that she was the grandma all along, and that her ultimate motive was that she wanted a family but otherwise she came off as really bratty and not very sympathetic. Sympathetic villains are becoming a tiresome trope too but even when she's not, she's not even close to some other non-sympathetic RE villain characters in terms of rank. Design-wise too, she looks like a copy of Alessa Gillespie (Silent Hill: Origins) and Alma Wade (and many other creepy girls that have appeared in various horror stuff).
Don't get me wrong, I think it's still a good game but starting from the video tape sequence on the ship, the story began to go downhill for me. Still interested to see *what the hell is up with "REDFIELD" and blue and white UMBRELLA??*

In case anyone is wondering, "quorum sensing" (around 18:35) especially in relationship to bacteria, is when bacteria send chemical signals to other bacteria to indicate a message to allow the bacteria to work together to achieve a goal and to alert other bacteria of their presence. So there are signals for things like "I'm here" or "release toxin" etc. Maybe this will help with understanding how Eveline controls the people she's infected. Great videos John! Going strong! (there's also a TED talk on this topic if anyone would like to learn more about quorum sensing)

Fabulous playthrough, and I love John for playthroughs because he makes a lot of effort both in his analysis, his critical thinking in the game context, and the fact that he'd bother to go back and record the differences when choosing Zoe instead of just getting one ending and calling it. And I admire RE7 so much, because, as plenty of people have said, it is somewhat of a return to old elements for the series and making it feel much more like there are times you're helpless or need to be strategic instead of being more of a mad shooter, which it's felt like they've moved toward since RE4.
I really liked this, back to its psychological roots. I felt it wasn't an RE game, until I heard your thoughts. You are right. It *is* an RE game. It's gritty, raw, great voice acting, for the most part, looked amazing and sounded great too.

i think part of the weakness is they load you up before the salt mines, AND leave tons of loot scattered around to distract you. if they had made it a segment where you HAVE to run, you DON'T have enough ammo to kill all of them (maybe just one or two that get in your way) it wouldn't have killed the tension as much as it did.
other games have done this where there is a high stakes scene that, narratively, should be fast-paced and tense. but by leaving loot, players will WANT to stick around and gather the things on the ground in case there's some super powerful last minute item that they can get for the next boss. even you were apologizing for looting, because you recognized it was stalling the intensity of the moment!
the boat was just too many last minute puzzles that took extra long because you were left without a lot of things to defend yourself with. plus they made you go through the area TWICE by having the taped segment and the present time segment. it was absolutely padded for time and in the worst way.
given mia's job they could have made it a really fun bit where you see she has these various skills she kept secret from ethan. not just knowing how to wield a gun and using some more advanced tech with the corrosives and such, but some skill that made her valuable to the mission to escort eveline in the first place. i don't know, maybe hacking cause that's an easy indicator of her being involved with something a lot less ordinary than baby-sitting. don't make it a "get item a for slot b" quest. show mia taking things that are broken and fixing them with know-how.
the grandma twist was great though. i was wondering what it would result in, and that was just the right amount of surprising and satisfying. maybe i missed some signs, i don't know, but i didn't see it coming.
anyway those are my end thoughts since you mentioned the boat and salt mines being the weakest parts. it wouldn't take a lot to improve them, even. just quickening the pace of both already makes them a little more painless.
John, you're my personal favourite youtuber for gaming. I love how you don't do all the stupid screaming like the 'big' youtubers, and how you play the game for what it is. Fully enjoyed watching this series, deserve so many more subscribers.

The first RE games were absolutely freaking scary. I watched someone play RE 2 and then bought the first and third. Thanks to those and the first Silent Hill were responsible for many sleepless horrified nights in my childhood. This definitely did take a turn back to the origins of horror gaming, but I still feel like they did play on the outlast, and paranormal elements quite a bit (I.e. the sliding through walls, hallucinations and monsters just appearing out of thin air, like that one in the mine).

During the credits, the newspaper's text read like an owner's manual for Eveline. There's some interesting info in there for anyone wanting to delve more into the lore.
Also, I don't think I could hear the cellphone vibrating after the credits in the second ending (the one where Ethan tosses his phone) which leaves me to believe that this is an important clue. Throughout the story, the only characters Ethan interacts with on the phone are his friend in the very beginning, Zoe, and Lucas. I'm assuming it wasn't the friend, as we do not have really any info that would lead me to believe that this character was important. In the first ending, Zoe is still alive and is either still at the Baker's home (possibly hiding) or now in Umbrella Custody. I think Zoe is still very important to the story (how did she learn to make the necrotoxin?). Lucas seems to have escaped and, from the e-mails in the mine, seemed to be working with whomever created Eveline. So... who was the phone?

Hey John I wanted to mention that I've played through the Mia ending, and came to your playthrough to get the Zoe ending. My buddy and I had some of the similar thoughts as you regarding this new Umbrella logo, and why Redfield is working with them!! crazy stuff, but I certainly found the 1st person to be a good fit for this game. transitioned well, minus the shooting mechanics while backup up(have to turn and run to create distance.).
We are going to start recording our first videos on this game running madhouse difficulty, and we are pretty excited about it! I still cant believe how well this game managed to keep the anxiety level and intenseness up while playing for 7-8 hrs.
I enjoy your videos greatly, and wanted to take the time to thank you for not only your time in making these, but having a clear gift of being able to narrate without being too talkative, or ruining the story. You have good timing, and actually contribute what I feel are great points throughout the experience.

This was seriously an amazing playthrough, every day I was filled with anticipation and excitement for what was to come. I can't wait for the DLC playthrough, but fuck spending 90 dollars just to have it a few weeks sooner. As long as you eventually play it then I will be happy. Plus it draws out the fun of the curiosity for what the DLC holds.

Wow. Loved this game and loved this playthrough. My ONLY complaint about this game is that you never got to see Ethan's face. I understand why the developers did that, though. But yeah, this game totally went above and beyond my expectations for it. I think, however, that the story was the best part of it. And seeing it tie into the whole Resident Evil storyline at the end just blew me away. Also, I can't believe how scary it was. Aside from jumpscares, which are found in just about every horror game, I found that it catered to many different fears, from losing limbs to bugs and insects (which I personally am afflicted with) to claustrophobia and many others, I think many people who have these fears would find it terrifying, (as I did).
Also, please play the DLC for this game, HC. PLEASE. I personally really want to see it and I don't mind waiting 3 weeks or so for it. Please play it when it comes out on PC.

I was 11 when RE1 was released. Growing up with three older brothers it was hard to miss it. Literally the scariest game I had ever seen, but because of RE1, I have been intrigued with scary horror games ever since. I have yet to find any other person who plays these games that can enlighten, entertain and keep me interested the way John does. This game is almost meta. I actually have a systemic fungal infection that's degenerative and somewhat slowly kiling me by affecting my organs (yay) so watching this is somewhat like a personal hell. But it's RE and I just had to. RE7 wasn't what I expected (my favorite is 4) but I'm loyal to the series.

Awesome playthrough! Was really grateful that you went back to cover the alternate ending as well, and thought your end commentary was spot on. If anything I almost feel like it would be more refreshing to just sit and wait and do a DLC recording when it comes to PC. TH-cam is an RE7-fest right now which is great but it might be seen as a nice change to have a youtuber you enjoy watching work on some other things to break it up and come back to it in February. I know even if I watch someone else play it, I'm still going to watch it when you put it out for your unique perspective anyway.

Oh, you should definitely play it. I've already watched Cry and Minx's play-throughs, but I'd definitely be down to watch it again if you played it at some point in the future. The Steam rework isn't terrible, but yeah, I do think it's a downgrade from the PSP version. Emulating it might be the better choice.
