Rex2k10 I consider it a bold direction due to how drastically different RE7 is compared to RE4, RE5, and especially RE6. The reception from the fans are very divided, with one group saying that they're happy that RE7 is focusing more on horror and atmosphere as opposed to mindless action sequences, while another group don't care for RE7 due to the FPS aspect, little action, and how there's no returning characters so far.
Gonna binge watch all of John's RE7 videos, again, so refreshing to watch a Let's Play of this with someone who is smart and competent and knows how to play a game.

Also, and I'm sure you found this in your editing, I think I saw Mia's name on the list with an empty space next to it. I wonder if she's the only one that succeedes in whatever the family was trying to do. I'm so excited to see the story unfold.

This was one of the first games that I watched gameplay of on TH-cam. Now after watching John Wolfe's content for a couple years now, I can finally come back around to this game (my favorite Resident Evil game) and enjoy it from John's perspective.

I can tell that this game takes HEAVY inspiration from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, especially in the demo with the dinner scene and everything. I've always wanted a TCM inspired game, and now we've got it, but in a way I never thought would happen!

The voice acting and characterisation is impeccable. Love the tape scene. I do have some problems with the game, it does have flaws (it just feels like the kind of game release that people would say is perfect and ignore them), but so far it is superbly entertaining, moreso with your commentary. I was worried it would be just like most other horror games but a lot prettier-looking, but it's piercingly atmospheric and story-driven, I feel immersed just watching this walkthrough.
Gavinmation It's pretty lazy, tbh. Did you even see how crap the blood on his sleeve looked once his hand had been cut off? Literally just red squares pasted on.
That was one of the problems I had. It's like when he's injured and there's a red splash on the screen, it looks like someone just spray painted deep red (not even blood red) onto the screen. And when his hand does get cut off, the extent of his pain are some pants and seeths. He should be screaming and freaking out. I know they didn't want the character's voice to be too abrasive and keep it in the background, but I thought the whole point was to make the situation immersive. How is that a realistic reaction? That being said, fortunately what immerses me in games is character interaction, pacing and plot interest. That's why I was worried this was just going to use the same tactics as every Indie horror game John plays, but with a prettier overlay. Like "yeah, you walk and pick up keys, but look at how detailed this doorframe is!" Luckily, so far the characters interacting with each other and the way they move in the environment has been spectacular, so it's doing a much better job of what I feel to be 'immersion' than most other recent games. And I'm not even a big horror game fan. it's just incredibly character-driven.
I was very skeptical early on, being a hardcore fan of the older games, and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised to see Resident Evil making a comeback. 6 and Capcom's financial collapse could've been the death of the series, but it seems like they've recovered, and they've recovered hard. RE is back with a vengeance, and it's great.
One of the things I absolutely love about your Let's Plays is that you're so thorough as you're investigating. You find a lot of details other players usually miss! As someone who enjoyed watching the demo endlessly, I love that you tried to see if you could break it and find demo items in the full version. Personally, my theory is that Ethan is a different visitor from the player character who visited the house in the demo.
Also, not that it matter now, but if you'd like to see the ghost in the "found footage" section you have to stay right behind Mister "Anchor". Like DIRECTLY behind him and she pops up in a few places
