    Another great video Ads - so many laughs!!🤣 - Zoe, I think that fiver could possibly be mine - its easy to tell turn it over and if it has the queen's head on it - that's my one 😉 Love the fact that Ads seems to have issues with Pevensey. Was that a definite possible maybe vote for the campsite from Zoe (definitely none commitall) - and televised abuse - what is youtube coming to!! Thanks for the entertainment.

    Pevensey Castle would have been coastal when William the Conqueror landed. Normans Bay will only have been reclaimed in the 1800’s. The Martello towers on the beach will be the oldest buildings around which were defences for Napoleonic wars
    The lighthouse is on Royal Sovereign Shoals and is very shallow. From the land it might look strange but was a useful marker so big ships would know they are out the lanes. It has been decommissioned now

    We live in East Sussex and love this site. We have stayed here quite a few times, it’s handy for Eastbourne, Sovereign Harbour and you can cycle to Cooden, which we have done. It’s only 20 miles from home.

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is there a cycle route or do you have to go on busy roads, Marilyn?

    • @Motorhome-Mazz
      @Motorhome-Mazz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HermanHitstheRoad The route is a little used country lane, you turn left at the site entrance and cycle to the railway crossing, then turn right and cycle the lane which takes you past a lovely pub with beautiful garden, then over the crossing to the road that runs next to the beach, you can take your motorhome along here, we have, at the end you reach Cooden Beach Hotel with its restaurant and people sitting out on the beach terrace. You can continue on to Bexhill, the road is wide and flat. We are only occasional cyclists and can manage this. You should consider staying at Crowborough CCC site, we live here, there is a bus stop at the entrance that will take you to Brighton one way and the other to The Pantiles in Royal Tunbridge Wells. We live a couple of miles from Ashdown Forest, home of Winnie the Pooh, Pooh Sticks bridge is at Chuck Hatch and the car park takes Motorhomes, as does all the forest car parks, which at the moment are free, not after July though. There is also the Nutley Windmill on the forest which is 300 years old, Sheffield Park gardens and the Bluebell Railway are nearby. Also Heaven Gate Farm tea rooms at Danehill nearby has the best blue woods I have ever seen, amazing.

    I stayed there two years ago. Enjoyed it very much
    One morning I walked along to road to the little shop, bought milk and a newspaper.
    Decided to walk back along the pebbly beach. It was beginning to be rather windy. I had tucked the newspaper under my arm. Suddenly a huge gust of wind snatched the paper from under my arm and went sailing off ahead of me. Oh no, thought I. Couldn’t run to catch it but as I walked back I kept noticing the odd page blown up against bushes, low walls etc. Picked them up. Got back to campsite. Put pages back together and discovered I’d only lost one page. How about that. Whole experience Did make me laugh..
    Yes the vans were close together when we were there. We’re firmly told we must not extend beyond a certain point.
    Visited science centre at Hurstmonceaux. That was very interesting . Also Hastings and Rye

    Never been to that site but I suppose it’s bound to be busy on bank holidays. You visited some nice places whilst you were there. The piers are in need of TLC as I think maybe the younger generations are not so keen on them as us. No ice cream in this video ? 😲😉 Safe travels 🚐 Trev

    I'll agree it's not the best of sites especially on a bank holiday, we've been several times and of course it's handy for visiting Julie's brother in Eastbourne, should have visited Rye an excellent place.
    Did you spot the WW2 pillbox built into the keep at pevensey castle or Anderida ( a Saxon shore fort, built and used by the classis Britannica as the water used to come up nearly to the walls.
    Anyway great vid, looking forward to the next one. 👍

    Why were all the soldiers called Norman? I understand they landed at Pevensey and were ready for battle there until a scout said “ sire, we should go further east and meet Harold. There’s a place a few miles down the road called Battle ( can you believe it sire) it’s surely the perfectly named town for the site a skirmish. And so boys and girls that’s how William the Conqueror ended up defeating the English.
