    Thanks for all the videos. I have just discovered you. I have a very similar van, mine is a 2001 Hymer B584 and I have had lots of the same issues, (such as the strut top bearings going bad and the steering not going back to the centre after a turning). I've not had the 5th gear problem (yet) but mine is a lot rustier than yours is, maybe because it has spent it's life on salt sprayed roads in Scotland. Like you I have a go at fixing stuff if I can, so I replay all the fix it videos over and over. I just welded together the mounts for the front cross member as they had rusted away.

      Glad to hear it, Kevin and welcome to the channel. The front cross member is a bolt on part which can be found on ebay (that's where I got ours).

    Hi
    It's MAD MILLS (because I was so angry about the motorhome)
    Thanks for putting our story out there.
    My first trip out in the MoHo to test out the work on the shower room did not go to plan 😢
    The shower worked well with no leaks.
    But on my mountain bike ride at my favourite trails
    I had chest pain & shortness of breath & called off my mountain bike ride & went back to the MoHo (that was on the Saturday) on the Monday I went to work were I was put in the back of an ambulance & blue lights to Shrewsbury hospital where I spent 2 days in A&E & 5 days on a ward then moved to Telford hospital were I spent 5 days & had a ultrasound a angiogram & a CT scan all clear & sent home to rest up for 7 days before going back to work.
    Now I am just looking out the window at the MoHo & planning our next trip. Hopefully next month to Scotland all being well.

    I got the plastic boxes, I thought they'd be ideal for a motorhome garage, until I saw the tiny tray compartments, ideal for jewelry. 😁 You do wonder what the marketing people are thinking sometimes. Glad to hear you got the suspension sorted in the end. Easy to miss that bearing as you probably concentrating on the more obvious suspension parts.

    Hello, glad you are not reviewing everything that you are sent. I just turn off when seeing bikes, power banks etc. I think TH-cam actually knows when people just turn off or flit through the video.
    As for the cardboard loo, there is not really a difference between dog poo or human poo. Bins are supplied for dogs, but many bins are for " mixed" general waste. When working as a campsite warden 6 dog bins were bought but this was classed as hazardous waste which meant to empty the bins we had to be booted and suited to empty them, consequently the were never used. PS thanks for not showing bikes and power banks.

      @@HermanHitstheRoad I wonder about the Loos that compost in a motorhome?
      To me double bagged human or Animal which we are, poo is no different. Birds, foxes, rabbits etc.
      It's the motorhomers that empty cassettes wherever that maybe.

  • @surfreadjumpsleep
    @surfreadjumpsleep 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Brilliant! Glad you got that sorted. I'm in Morocco and debating whether or not a street mechanic could handle this job. They definitely need that thing which will assemble the spring strut and top mount altogether. Not sure if they have that. Also they're very greasy and dirty people so would probably make a mess of the interior. Other option is to go to a proper garage in Marrakech I think I might do that. Anyways thanks for the update and cheers I'm looking forward to that smooth steering!

    Mad Miles Story makes me feel kind of better about the troubles we have had with Nessa over the the years. With Intercooler pipe having a very neat split in it, then the Alternator Control Module not putting out enough voltage to allow the gearbox to work, which left us stranded on the one way system in Oban for 6 hours. Then Last years Break down with the Gearbox not being able to work. Fixed with a Brand new Box. Hopefully the cost of that on it's own will make Mad Mile feel better about his long list of troubles. as it came in at £6000. I felt sick when they told me the final bill. Since bringing Nessa home we haven't even planned to any trips away in her, which we would have done by now. This year I am now wondering what else will go wrong or will we have a fault free year if she does get off the drive other than our Mull holiday in the Summer. The Gearbox is because some absolute Darwin Award winner put break fluid in the box.

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi it's MAD MILLS
      Sounds like you have had a time of it as well.
      I know how you feel about not using the motorhome. I was the same then my wife said let's just use it locally for a few trips. ( we are lucky that we have mountain biking trails & walking trails quite close to us with in an hours drive) so have worked our way up to longer & longer trips.
      Hope you feel up to using it again

    • @Simon_W74
      @Simon_W74 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@yanmills Hi Yan.
      We will use Nessa again at some point, nothing has been booked yet. We have not long been away to Whitby and will be heading to Anglesey in the Easter Holidays. Both are holiday Cottage holidays. I guess we have the up and downs of owning older motorhomes.
      She has certainly had a good few quid spend on her, new rear shocks and serval new parts and a bit of welding to get her through her MOT last year. Then the initial work at another garage to get her drivable to then have her properly fixed with a new Gearbox and hydraulic pump that works the gear selector, as she is based on a Mercedes Sprinter with their know problem child the Sprintshift gearbox that is basically a manual gearbox but made to look like an Automatic in the cab. Lovely to drive when they work. Any slight drop in voltages to the box and it’s a semi automatic that will change down on its own if you forget, but will not change up if you forget. Have driven from Scotland to Norfolk like that.

    • @Simon_W74
      @Simon_W74 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@HermanHitstheRoad I have know idea other than Gearbox oil has a different colour and smell to break fluid. I don’t even know if you can test oils to determine what you have in front of you. I can only go by what the Mercedes Truck and Van mechanics have said. It isn’t good for the gearbox or hydraulic pump that operates the gear selector.
      I mentioned their finding to my mechanic that normally works on Nessa and he said that they should replace the gearbox as the bearing would have been compromised as they were not running with the correct lubrication, which also damaged the hydraulic pump. Which you can’t get a oem replacement for without the gearbox. Luckily it needed both I guess.

    I nearly bought a fiat based Autotrail from a dealer it was low miles and had a lot of extras I was looking for, we settled on the price and paid a deposit. I went away and delved a bit more into its history, I had failed 3 MOT’s in one year all on rust so I went back and had a look, it was horrendous rust and patches everywhere. I had a conversation with the owner and I swapped interest to a Peugeot based compass Motorhome, same layout but no extras it had a shiny clean chassis with no noticeable wear on the inside, a full complete service history with cam belt and tyres changed. Its mileage is 23,000 not to bad for a 2005

    The composting toilet is a weird one, I’ve had adverts on my Facebook for something similar but they are advertising that if you bag it you can just put it in the bin 😱 no thanks.
