    I'm in a similar situation as you. I'm retired and caravan all year around mostly in the lake district and Scotland. Just me and my small dog. I mostly use the CCC club sites which are ideal for solo campers . No need to book in advance at this time of year either so I keep an eye on the weather forecast and when a decent spell comes up I go for it. Enjoyed the video.

    • @Roz.S

      Yes, I've mainly used CCC sites so far. Although, I don't like going to the same site twice and I'm running it out od club sites, so I think I'm going to have to join the CAMC. We're off to the Lakes next week :)

    Just a little tip. You should aways try to lift up the back of the van off it's suspension, a couple of inches, and confirm the rise, with a vertical object, placed on the floor, next to your van rear, as a datum, after you have hitched up, with the jockey wheel raiser, to ensure 100%, that it is locked on to the ball and attach the breakaway cable afterwards, before you stow the jocky wheel.

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, great tip! I was also told to do this when I done my caravan course. I do it most times, but admittedly I sometimes forget! 🙈

    • @jontremaine1
      @jontremaine1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I didn't note that you hadn't lifted the hitch handle forward thus triggering the red/green indicator on the hitch to the green mode. I can't imagine you missed this, guess you were more concentrating on the video production and double checked before you departed. Not a criticism, just a concern @@Roz.S 👍

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@jontremaine1 As the hitch goes onto the ball, the red indicator pops up and turns green. I check this every single time. What I should have done then (but didn't) was to wind the jockey wheel the other way and watch for the rear of the car lifting to make double-sure that the hitch was attached. I do this most times, but I admittedly do forget sometimes (like on this occasion). So, I do need to get better at remembering. Thank you so much for commenting; there's no such thing as being too safe. :)

    Lovely video, as an almost 60yr old, caravanned for many years , it’s shocking how heavy caravans have become. My last van was 1120kg fully laden - six berth Elddis. Previous was an old 5 berth, about 900kg fully laden. In your small van a 500kw oil filled radiator would supply enough heat safely to keep the winter chill off during the night.

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you very much for the tip! My little pod is a 2-berth with a MTPLM of 750kg - just a bit less than your 5 berth! 😱

    • @dross24MA
      @dross24MA 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I *love* oil filled radiators!
      The heat is so consistent and thoroughly adjustable!
      Mine have 3 power draw settings: 500W, 700W & 1200W with adjustable heat levels within each setting.
      They are so economical that I turn off the main heat in the spare rooms, set them to 500W and use them to maintain a minimal warmth level during our New England winter!
      It saves on furnace fuel big time!

    Just found your video, you left just before the weather changed. I arrived on the Saturday , on the same pitch as you vacated, the clouds followed me down. My friends were on the next pitch to you in their caravan, with the old sleeping bag round the water container, we had our first taste of snow that night . Low clouds and mist until Wednesday before the winds came ! The Pod seems a nice unit for you both, everything you need and not a lot to store at home. Delamere is a place I stay at 3 or 4 times a year great site , apart from the potholes on the roads ! Carry on with your adventures. and I will follow your trips to places I have not been to.

    We do winter camping in our Campervan, lovely and warm with the heating on and bracing walks with our dog in the cold air. We often go to Castleton in the Peak District, just before Christmas. I think we’ve done part of that Delamere Forest walk, when we were staying at Chester in our van.

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching, but1200 pounds is only 544kg. To get a Pod, your car would need to be able to tow 750kg, which is about 1655 pounds.

    I love that pod and that dog! Love the way his tail goes in circles, he seems so happy. It’s a lovely life for him . ❤❤ I wish I was brave enough to tow, I’m 4ft 9” and that looks perfect for me.

      I call Winston's tail his "propeller." It's what helps to power him. 😅
      I went on a towing course before getting my caravan and that helped loads. If you're in the UK, you could go to one of the caravan shows, they sometimes have a 'try towing' experience where you can drive one around and see how you feel. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @tracker1009
      @tracker1009 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds great , I didn't know that they did a towing course, that's put my mind at rest as I too am thinking of buying a tiny caravan, why did you by one without a bathroom ? Was it to keep the caravan as small as poss 😏 that's what I am deliberating on ?

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tracker1009 My small van has a maximum towing weight of 1000kg, which limited what caravans I could safely tow. There are a couple of caravans with bathrooms that have a max weight of 995kg, but that was too close to my van's limit, and it wouldn't make for a safe towing match. So, I ended up with a Go Pod which has a max weight of 750kg. I'll probably upgrade to a bigger caravan in a few years, but I would have to change my van for a more substantial towing vehicle. I love my little van, and I'm not ready to get rid of her yet. I highly recommend going on a towing course first. I did a 1-day course, and I learned so much and felt so much more confident when I got my caravan. Hope that helps.

For installing cozy lights I can recommend USB RGB led strips with remote controller and adhesive tape on the strip, from Biltema... which can be connected to usb charger or usb battery powerbank ... Do you feel you miss anything in life? Don’t you have the most gorgeous and funny friend, Winston, in your life? Do you miss being a millionare? Do you miss millions when seeing your Winston running with his «propelling tail», full of love and life? Is it better to let other people telling you what you have to do? I hope not. Quite fancy one of these go pods.😊
    I was brought up in the 70/80’s all holidays and short breaks away in the caravan, pre electric hook up etc.
    Then for 4 years I owned my own older model. 2 berth Elddis😊
    I remember going south to Scottish Borders Melrose. Am in Aberdeenshire.
    It snowed heavy and was, minus 6….😢
    I went to local Tesco near by, it had car park, underneath, I pull out some cardboard boxes, flattened. Put one under the water and wrapped around, also the gas, as it was calor. I used my microfibre cloths and taped over air vents, to stop the drafts etc. first night was cold, but next 3 were ok, as kept heating on.
    I filled kettle the night before.
    Remember the toilet block was warm, and had, I think radio 2 playing in background.
    It was a caravan club site. As there well kept.😊
    Great to watch, cheers.

    Take water bottles ( empty 2 litre pop bottles are perfect) fill up when you get there and keep them inside. Actually no need to take external water containers. But if you do then get them raised off the floor and something wrapped around them. If on hook up then why not an electric blanket or hot water bottle.

      We usually wash our crockery etc at the campsite dish wash sinks.
      We buy two, 2litre bottles of still water for the journey then reuse them. Those plus filling the kettle lasts us a day.
      The bottles stand nicely behind the sink of our GoPod, and when we get home again we can just put them in recycling - dont have to clean and sterilise water carriers.

      We used to, but being lazy, it saves draining and disinfecting the system before winter and sterilising water carriers. We do tip unfinished drinks etc down the sink, and sometimes wash and clean teeth, so have grey water storage. We would connect up the water if we went on longer trips like you. Roll on retirement ! 🙂
