WCW Slamboree 1997 took place in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 18th 1997. The main event featured the return of Ric Flair when The Nature Boy, Roddy Piper and Kevin Greene took on Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Syxx of the nWo. The main event was all about the nWo wanting to destroy tradition and making the legends of wrestling pay for leaving potholes in the road for the new generation to travel on. With Slamboree being held in Flair Country, the audience is extremely hyped up and excited for the main event.
Elsewhere on the card, Steve McMichael has a terrible match with Reggie White. Chris Benoit takes on Meng, Double J Jeff Jarrett gets a shot at the US title, and the show opens up with an excellent TV Title match when Ultimo Dragon degends the gold against Steve Regal.

A pandemic couldn’t stop him, a move couldn’t stop, even Christmas couldn’t stop him. Wrestling bios is da man
Top 5 dead or alive!
No Fuccin Cap 🚫🧢
I wish I could be successful
WB is a true horseman who can handle horsemen business.
Protect this man at all costs
"I can't wait for my Glacier colored pencils. I bet they'll arrive late and won't work either."
Dang, dude. That's savage. 🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Amazing main event and one of the rare times the nWo lost clean in the center of the ring. Although I’m not a massive NFL fan, Kevin Greene really held his own in that six man tag. And Benoit vs Meng was such a hidden gem when talking about undercard matches from that era.
Wrestling Bios having heat against Glacier is the greatest thing ever. “If Ernest Miller is a friend of Glacier, then he’s no friend of mine”
🤣🤣🤣🤣
He had to put in the Mortal Kombat style music. Hahahahahahahaha
"He looks at Flair like he just pissed in his cereal."
Gold!
RIP Kevin Greene, the match between Regal vs Ultimo was really good. Decent ppv overall.
RIP to Reggie White as well.
Watched this PPV just a few weeks ago and it was my match of the night. Thought the main event was really fun as well.
I got to meet Kevin Greene when I was a kid and he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was such an awesome person!!
And now Mongo is sick as well
This line had me cracking up: “Ernest Miller is a friend of Glacier and therefore, no friend of mine” LOL!!
The meng v benoit ending was great! I love when they do finishes that involve thoughtful counters to finishing moves
The fact that you don’t have over 1 million followers yet blows my mind. We need to be better at getting your name out there. It’s the least we can do for this fantastic series.
I noticed that last week and was mind blown. 🤯🤯
I mention the channel whenever I watch Attitude Era videos from other channels. Everyone deserves the opportunity to watch WrestlingBios.
I've been enjoying this series ever since I caught my 1st episode months ago...and I gotta say, these ppv reviews have been really fun to watch too ❤
Best channel for anyone who was a hardcore wrestling fan in the 90s… i never watched since then and feel like this channel is my exact demographic
@Black Boy King TV who cares, we knew what he meant
Dude can we appreciate the grind of Wrestling Bios? Even during a house move he’s still putting out bangers after bangers
Hell ya! Makes our crappy days much better.
Amen
Absolutely. Everything going on and he still gets videos out on schedule. I'm impressed with his dedication.
I was one of the 220,000 who bought the PPV as a kid, eBay helped 1997 and 1998 Nitros and PPVs after WWE started going after a lot of videos. Just watched Slamboree last week
Mortis' selling of Millers kick was fantastic.
Kanyons selling was fantastic period
@@RockSmith-rl9qr indeed
And still released it on Sunday 😱😎🎅
Glad they gave Luna some time to wrestle in front of a great crowd. RIP Luna Vachon
Pretty great show from WCW's peak era before it all began to go very wrong.
Slamboree was pure fun, something which is missing from a whole lot of modern wrestling. It also emphasised how much better the WCW roster was than the WWF one was, at this moment in time.
It’s amazing that the WCW roster was better. However they were, for the most part, poorly booked. With WWF having the better show, for the most part, with a much thinner roster. At a time when WCW were winning in “the war”
wwf had the better main event roster. austin undertaker bret shawn foley vs nash hall hogan flair sting ddp
Sooooooo much deeper in the midcard and upper midcard. And yet they insisted on booking garbage like the endless horsemen infighting between the same two guys storyline that never went anywhere, and things like 15 minute match between Mongo and Reggie White while so many of their guys weren't even on the card.
@@martynodonnell8467 it’s actually kind of frustrating to see WCW win the ratings each week when WWF has been putting on better shows for a while.
I went to this show, it felt like the Crockett house shows in the 80s. Good times, and good memories.
I always saw this as a perfectly acceptable "B" PPV main event. The home guys got a big win (Mostly Flair and Greene), just like Bret and crew in Calgary a few months later. Works for me!
Well don't chemistry that Hall and Nash had too!
Regal was so damn smug, but he was such a great wrestler. You got to respect him for that.
Fit finlay vs glacier would have been fun to watch! Lol
Regal was straight fire highly underrated
The Meng v Benoit match was the manliest thing I’ve seen in a long time and makes me wonder what would a Meng v Regal match would’ve been like without being called off due to outside interference. Also, seeing the nWo being defeated cleanly was a rare treat. I am so glad you’re doing the PPVs with the RTW series and able to relieve my childhood.
I kinda wonder what Benoit would have rated on the manly meter though
At least 5/6
I want to thank the creator of this show and the Monday night wars I think you saved myself and so many of us during the shutdown and bringing back some of the greatest memories of my childhood and adult hood
Wrestling bios is legit the only wrestling related show I watch since 04. Thank you.
@@CeeMigoLoCo I haven't watched anything wrestling related since 04. Wrestling bios is the only wrestling content that's peeked my interest
Too legit to quit
AEW is great, you should check it out. Modern WWE, on the other hand, is absolute garbage.
(Also, its "piqued")
I didn't appreciate how great regal was back in the day
"Glacier wins via DQ but I don't care." Around this time I had this attitude for all WCW/WWF matches. It doesn't matter who wins or lose, but who kicks the most @$$ by the end of the match. Great video and great series. This is one of my favorite channels.
I freaking loved the Glacier, Mortis, and Wrath storyline.
So, only complaint (very minor) is that I miss your jokes about Sheriff Mark Curtis and his six-shooter "ring the bell" action.
Other than that, your usual great job.
Yosemite Sam style!
The "grudge" you're holding against Glacier is hilarious... thanks for the laughs. Your reviews are top-notch... always informative and humorous. Have a great new year!
being 40 nowm Im suprised how much I accepted Roddy Piper as a main eventer back then. I feel like he was kinda past his prime but, I was sold as him being a main eventer even as a teenager.
Earnest "The Cat" Miller, the original owner of "Somebody Call My Momma" theme
The fact the main event wasnt a DQ finish shows WCW still had a modicum of sense at the time
Ernest miller was a good character I remember him well!
Watched this PPV as a kid! Absolutely one of my favorites!
It's a sin whenever people list the greatest ring technicians: Bret Hart, Dynamite Kid, Lance Storm, etc, etc, and they forget Reggie White and Mongo!!!!!!!!
Especially since Bret, Dynamite and Lance never conducted any Horsemen Business.
🤣🤣🤣
Your commentary for this classic WCW PPV main event from my childhood is absolutely golden, my friend! Extremely enjoyable video. I hope you had a great Christmas!
I am a Canadian, and I actually remember a mainstream news outlet talk about the Mongo/Reggie White match. So I guess Bischoff got what he wanted out of it. Their quote was : "Unfortunately this one ends in controversy due to the old briefcase trick" "Oh no! Not the briefcase trick!!" lol
@@thebandit0256 haha yep, but I basically see it as "The minor leagues". The best CFL players could barely make an NFL practice squad! Few exceptions of course!
Stumbled upon this series a few months ago, what a find. This has been so much fun reliving this. Just want to say thank you for all the work this takes.
The Glacier hate is hilarious 😁
It's an honor to have my ticket stub featured in the beginning of the video! I really enjoyed this event, I had great seats just off the floor opposite the entrance. The crowd in "Shawlatte" is always hot when Flair is on the card. I need to rewatch the whole thing, because I forgot a lot of it as I watched this. As you said, Ultimo Dragon vs Regal was excellent but the main event was so much fun with all parties doing their thing and a fantastic ending. I really enjoyed your assessments of all the matches.
That’s so cool man (not sarcasm)
These take me back to the glory days of wrestling and give me a nostalgia trip every time. Thank you for this. They are amazing.
It was only recently I realized Hugh Morris was a play on humorous.
Glacial intellect....
Ultimo Dragon was my first favorite wrestler as a 3 year old. Reliving the war reminds me of why he was. I love me some Ultimo Dragon!
How this channel doesn’t have more subs is beyond me. I just discovered it last week and it’s so up my alley it’s unbelievable. I love the WCW stuff especially
Loving the whole reliving the war and ppv reviews especially when glacier is mentioned lol
Great content as usual
Hope you had a good Christmas! Absolutely loving these videos - keep up the great work!
It’s still Christmas until January 6th. 12 Days*
@@anonymousnobody326 Don't really get your point in replying to me, regardless, Christmas is one day. Hence why it's called Christmas Day.
The prodigious host of Wrestling Bios will one day be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
I was actually at this event. The pop Ric Flair got was UNREAL. That event was worth it off of that alone.
Ive watched since episode 1...thank u my friend...u get me through tough days
Hope you had a wonderful holiday. Glad you were able to get the video out, but I think we'd have been fine if you'd have taken some time off. Your dedication is phenomenal and I hope the new year brings great things for you and this channel.
The Main Event was a perfect storm for great story telling. Even having Green in there helped, he was the hometown hero in the story combined with Flair that crowd was easily gonna be on fire as long as none of them phoned it in. And McMichael and White is just a necessary evil. Moves like that are the exact reason wrestling was seeing a boom all those NFL fans getting exposed to the awesomeness of wrestling was priceless
This channel is one of the best, most consistently awesome channels on TH-cam.
1997: Year of the Nerve pinch
The Frankensteiner was a thing of beauty
Thanks for the videos, it has been a great way to watch the wrestling i grew up with.
Merry Christmas to everyone and a Happy New Year in Advance …. 🙏🏿
I like when Hall gets all hyped up and points at his opponent.
I remember the crowd going wild for most of this Ppv especially during the main event. It really made this show mean something !
Ernest Miller had been wrestling on WCW Worldwide for a few weeks prior to Slamboree. Worldwide was WCW's only syndicated show at the time and everything else was on TBS, hence why the announcers claimed they had no clue who he was, as people who didn't get Worldwide at the time OTA (like myself) also didn't know who he was.
Watching those Worldwides years later took me by surprise, but then it made sense as it was syndicated and not everyone could watch them.
WCW For Life!!!
Thanks for this additional info
Really wish WCW would have paid attention to that main event reaction there. You need give and take when it comes to heels and faces, and that buildup on both sides should be commended.
Didnt expect this until Monday. Keep it up bro. I dont even watch wrestling anymore but this is probably my favorite series.
Ernest Miller had the original trouble in paradise before Kofi
Nice avoidance of not gauging Benoit on the Meng Manly Meter, that'd cause just a hilarious debate and protest.
Benoit is truly manly and breaks the meter.
"He's a fan of Glacier so he is no friend of mine" LOLOLOL!!!! Great video and commentary per usual
When I watched the Jarrett vs Malenko match last year. I thought it was great. Although their rematch on nitro in a few weeks was better.
This was one of the best videos you have done, been watching for several months now and this had the best punchlines. Especially the glacier nicknames were hilarious. Hope you have been enjoying this festive period. Great video
Love the WCW N64 music in the background … feels like I’m doing a C.A.W. on Revenge
Thank you so much for continuing to give us all these videos
Hey love your channel. Again always post the best well informed and full details to each show and the bios on individual wrestlers. Fact you make it interesting and not boring your great at what your doing and tell everyone to check your channel out. Thanks for the stroll thru old memories 😂 always entertaining
Hope you had a great Christmas thanks for dropping this so quick 👍🏆
That main event was really. Good the crowd was into it
been watching this channel since day 1 and still get excited about watching new content.... . Merry Christmas jabronies 🎅🎁
Thank you sir. I'd only ever seen this once. I was 12 years old with my buddy from up the street and my father. My father bought the PPV for us that weekend and watched with us. He was a Carolina Flair fan.
Kevin Greene was underrated.
And he was mainstream Cool in 1997. White might have been the GOAT lineman, but Greene had an It factor at the time.
Merry Christmas wrestling bios u are spoiling us this week best wishes for the New Year to all the fans out there Mark Linciln UK xx
I can say without a doubt you and your channels growth over the year has been incredible and truly deserved. Happy holidays!
Happy new year wrestling bios. Looking forward to your new content for the coming year! 🇬🇧🤘
Early Kaz Hyashi with that hairstyle and that entrance walk reminded me of Hook lol
Woooooooooo
So glad youve added the ppv's to go along with the RTW series.
Ngl that's pretty fast, you sir deserve more subs for the work ethic alone
Very disappointed there was no Meng Manly Meter for his match vs. Benoit. I get it. But this was an oversight. Regardless, great content this year. Can't wait for 2022. Keep it up
No Meng Manly Meter for Benoit might of been done on purpose.
The Main Event was way better than expected! Hope You & Your Family have/had A Great Christmas & A great break!
Ernest Miller was highly underrated. His promos along with Big Poppa Pumps promos were some of the best on the entire show.
If I have choose a good '97 wrestling PPV between Slamboree & Cold Day in Hell, this one was pretty good. One thing I know I will get fussed at is no WCW World Heavyweight Championship match. Still good though
It didn't get defended until August in Sturgis. But Lex Luger mentioned in a promo later that Hogan hasn't defended the title in more than 30 days so he's overdue from February which was Hogan's last title defense.
Thanks for so much great content 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Omg. Your dialogue referring to glacier is awesome. Class act 🤟🍷
4:08 Regal just Samoa Joe'd Ultimo Dragon
Thank you my brother, always clutch with the videos thank you
Thank you sir for everything you do !!! Peace and love
Can’t wait until the episode with the “Sting Army”.
Truly the best wrestling show on TH-cam. I will never tire of hearing you bury Glacier.
Another great upload. Keep up the superb work.
Bro, seriously thnak you so much for this series
A new Wrestling Bios video? By golly it's a Boxing Day miracle!
That Mortis stair drop looked great because they practiced it like 10 times right before doors opened. I was sitting in the Crockett box after coming from backstage. Doors hadn’t opened yet. They practiced this over and over and besides myself, Ernest was the only one sitting in the arena. They practiced his entrance jumping from the crowd, too. An announcer announced “5 minutes before doors open!” They all shook hands and went to the back. Crowd came in clueless.
Awesome Video As usual 👍
Honestly regal vs ultimo dragon seems like a dream match..
Ftr. Ultimo dragon was my chosen character when I played nwo vs the world on n64. Didn't know who he was, but dammit he was cool..
This is the most I've seen Nash sell...Syxx and Hall always sold well
I was there, still one of my favorite ppvs. Regal v Dragon was awesome. Sadly Rey wasn't as big a star then and most of the people didn't know who Yugi was. I remember a lot of the crowd used that match to go to the bathroom or get snacks so it was really quiet during that one. I've talked to Glacier personally about this match he was injured during this match and wasn't able to move very well. No one cared about the Mongo match. Also remember a fight breaking out in the crowd between fans, it happened up and to the left of the hard camera. After the show went off the nWo cut a promo and the crowd threw so much trash in the ring at them. That was a great time to be a fan.
Happy Holidays to you. I hope you had a Christmas and will have a great New Year.
I watched it all over again from the beginning, was able to catch up just in time!
You made it on Sunday, you legend!
