    It's definitely gave me a new respect for the new Eco drive proximity watch I just bought. It's no Patek Philippe, but it's quality and craftsmanship in its own right.

    Taking apart a watch like this to change a part inside, and then properly re-assemble it is a huge skill. Takes a lot of learning and the ability to visualize how it functions. As much as I know in physics, electronics, and engineering theory, I would never be able to make that watch work again on my own. Because I do not have the required dexterity and steadiness I could not even attempt this type of task!

    Getting these things back together and setting up the various functions is horrendous. Best to send them back to Citizen who just replace the movement. Citizen have been replacing rather than repairing analogues for many years and it's difficult to get them to provide individual parts, anyway. They realised it was much more cost effective. The LCDs were easier to work on with fewer parts. Screws on Citizen quartz watches are always a very thin tap which are easy to snap off when undoing. It's good to know that the size is pretty standard and has been since the 8630. You can use screws out of the cheap Miyota stuff. Good to know if you shear one whilst undoing battery covers.

    I was hoping to see the gearing that controls the perpetual calendar. This watch knows when to change dates and does it internally. Rolex and Omega can not. This watch gets set for leap year and keeps track. I wanted to see what drives calendar ring.

    • @emmanuelrodriguez2346
      @emmanuelrodriguez2346 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe the calendar is driven directly by the main hands but also can be modified with an especific motor. So, since the microcontroller has acces to data data from the gps system, it can change the calendar by itself. Also, the calendar main gear has contact pins so maybe that is how the microcontroller knows if the date dial is in 29, 30 or 31. You could try setting bad the date at the beginning of the month and check if it gets auto updated on any of those days.

      How do you imagine a solar watch retains the correct time during darkness at night? It has to have a battery/capacitor system to store power reserve! Actually my Citizen Eco Drive will happily sit in the box in complete darkness for months and months and still retain enough power to be accurate and still working! Fantastic technology. Citizen put a 5 year warranty on these watches, I think for a long time Rolex and Omega didn't even have warranties that long! Citizen are now saying the batteries in these retain 80% of their original power after 20 years and could potentially last up to 40 years! You imagine how many batteries you would have bought and have fitted on a conventional quartz watch, think of the cost saving and the reduced impact on the environment in battery waste disposal. 😎👍

      @@swabby429 Uses a rechargable lithium ion cell, not a capacitor. A capacitor discharges in a similar way to throwing a switch, and would not work in this application

      @@p.istaker8862You are correct of course. Whenever a solar watch is discussed the "It's a capacitor!" crowd comes out of the woodwork. This video shows a Panasonic CTL920F which Panasonic describes as a coin-type cobalt titanium rechargeable lithium battery.

    Sorry Esslinger, you had that watch apart before you shot this. No way does the caseback come off that easy, same with the chrono tubes. Especially with that piece of crap from Horrortech.

      You are right and I noticed some signs on the caseback. The probably edited the first attempt out as it was too hard to get it off. But still - nice video.
