  • Welcome To Part 1 Of My 2023 Memory Ride!
After being away from Connecticut for 20 years my permanent return from Virginia in 2018 is allowing me to explore this small, but beautiful, state. A big part of this has me reintroducing myself to my old hometown - Wallingford, Connecticut.
Last year my focus was visiting my two childhood homes and I folded in the homes of those high school classmates who moved away from Connecticut many years ago. Part 1 of this ride had me viewing the beautiful homes on North Main Street. I then moved out to the North Farms Reservoir; a body of water that provided cool dips in the summer, canoe races with playmates, and bonfires and ice skating in the winter. I then followed the northern boundary of town to pass by the Blue Trail Rifle Range - surprisingly busy on a weekday. From there I headed out to the beautiful views from the top Whirlwind Hill Road. On the way, I was drawn off my route to visit the fields of the Wallingford Open Space land to ponder the new rise of ticks.
And there are those of you who have no connection with this area and simply enjoy watching cycling videos. My small but dedicated group of of viewers on my TH-cam channel, here is my message to you. Go back to your hometown, jump on your bike and ride those roads you explored as a 12 year old. There are not many things nicer than taking a bike ride down the streets and trails of your past… go for it.
Part 2 is in the editing process…stand by!

nice...especially like the flower midst the traffic and guns... a gentle portrayal of human impact on the natural world.... those sweet, resilient flowers keep managing to bloom for a little while longer. haha like YOU! ride on!

Don’t see how you keep from getting run over on the hiway? In TX they just hit you and keep going.

First off, I have been trying to stay off the highways and byways but for this ride that was impossible. Rail trails, old fire roads, and quiet country roads are what I opt for but, even with those, you often have to ride busy roads to get there. I will say that the little rear view mirror I wear attached to my glasses keeps me safe along with all of the lights I have blinking at the cars. In all of my years of cycling, never have I been hit. Wish me luck 😉

@@cc103acs Have you considered one of the Garmin or similar device that has radar alerts?

@@leonfisher Yes… it is on my long list of things to try out. Do you have one?

@@cc103acs Yes, I do. I've also got a bar end mirror that I used to think was enough, but now wouldn't want to go out without the radar.
