Good video on making racing seats. I have to question your finished weighs for the seats, how can the fiberglass seat possibly weigh "24.5 kg", perhaps you mean 4.25kg?
I think maybe you're both wrong. 450g mat as the name suggests, is 450g per square yard, so around 500g for a square meter, I saw him put 3 layers on, lets call it 2 square meters for each layer, so that's 3 kgs, 3gs and a bit for resin and gelcoat, so I would estimate around 7 to 8 kgs.
If I may be so bold...? While removing boat hulls from molds we use water to dissolve the PVA and the parts literally float out of the molds. Perhaps dissolving the PVA with water would help to release your parts? Super Sweet Race Seats!
Yes - I first made & uploaded that video about 12 years ago, and have long since used water to dissolve my PVA release. Someone suggested compressed air. , but I tried it & found it no help. Large plastic tiling wedges have proved themselves indispensable now as well!
Yup. Often overlooked. People should add a small pipe or tubeless tyre valve into the mold so water can be fed in, garden hose will do. The water breaks down the PVA and parts fall out usually, as you know. I know a guy who simply drops his smaller molds into a bathtub of water, comes back later and the parts have fallen out.
Imagine if the carbon fibre seats were made in the forged carbon process as the finish, aka chopped up CF and molded into the shape via a press, or literally negative die of the outside part and sandwhiched together. It would look so sick.
Hey bud, good to see a new video on seats. Its been a while since we last spoke. I wanted to know, is there alot of difference in weight, compared to infusion method, if you were to estimate?
Using the infusion method would make the seats lighter and stronger. All the excess resin will make the seats heavier and more brittle since there is no control on the resin amount.
I checked my re-mix levels and the only problem with music levels was at the end, and that is an old recording that I cannot re-mix because I can't separate the voice and the music. That also prevented me enhancing my commentary as I normally do these days.
