Thanks for all the lovely comments! I found out that aloe vera is water soluble therefore a preservative is recommended to stop bacteria growing. You could omit the aloe vera and the body cream is still fantastic! Good luck and enjoy making.

Great video!!! I love this combination! What I do to prevent the aloe from shortening the shelf life of the butter is that instead of putting it inside the product, I apply it to my skin just before the shea butter... true that makes two applications instead of one, but that way I can keep the shea butter mixture almost indefinitely :)

Thank you, as always, Niamh! I've just made mine today, and really happy with the result! The only additional ingredient I used was arrowroot powder (for this amount, 3 tsp), as it cuts through the grease so the butter consistency isn't too greasy.

I love Shea butter! It is so creamy and not as greasy as coconut oil. I’ve recently started using frankincense and myrrh oil not just in my diffusers but as a “perfume”; just a bit on wrist and breastbone. Heavenly!

Body butter is one of my favorite products to make. I like to stick with true body butters ( not containing water or preservatives) instead of the thick lotions that are commonly referred to as “body butters.” My favorite recipe is Shea butter, Mango butter, Avocado oil, Jojoba oil , Vitamin E oil... It took me a long time to come up with my recipe. I don’t have to add any starches or clays to combat the sometimes greasy feeling of body butter. This recipe is naturally non greasy. I really enjoyed ur video. It’s very relaxing and has a good vibe to it. Thank you for making a great video. 👍

Going to have to try this ❤️ I absolutely love your videos, they really put me in the right frame of mind for the day ☺️. Just would like to pass on a tip as you have taught me so much. I only found this out myself whilst studying for an aromatherapy diploma, for the essential oils to not evaporate quickly they have to be kept in a dark glass jar. If the glass is clear then all those beneficial, expensive oils will evaporate within days. Please keep making more videos 🙏 xxx

Perfect timing with the Shea butter recipe. I won’t buy body butter from where I used to due to a msg put out by the brand & was not sure where to get more. How silly to think I needed to find a new brand, plus I like a certain scent (usually vanilla bean) & if I make my own I can have any scent I want! Thx again!

I used the original recipe before I read your comment below and made a large batch as gifts for my colleagues. I will alert them to keep the cream in a cool place and to be sure to use with clean hands to minimize those pesky little bugs from getting in! I have been using this hand cream for a couple of weeks now and love that it has kept my hands from cracking in the drier winter air. I make all my own soap as well, so this is a welcome addition to my home made skin care. Next batch I will include some grapefruit oil or vitamin E oil as a preservative. Thanks for this lovely recipe!

    • @FairylandCottage
      @FairylandCottage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

It actually doesn't go mouldy on me so I'd say yours will be fine because there is so little aloe vera...
but in the future the vitE or gse would be great or just omit the aloe vera..
delighted you are liking it! I love it for the winter season!

Hi Niamh, great video as usual! I make my own body cream too, but I use coconut oil together with shea butter or sesam oil to give a more particular smell and texture, and usually put drops of lavender essential oil, or a mix of cinnamon and orange essential oils if I make it in winter. I love making my own toiletries at home, it gives me such a peace and sense of care for the environment as it's zero waste and 100% organic! Love from Italy! ❤

I live in Nigeria for work and I’ve been doing a very similar whipped body butter for years: not only Shea butter and coconut oil are easily found and totally natural here, is also so much cheaper than the few available imported options. I normally add rose hip or jojoba oil too (depends on what I manage to bring from my holiday trips 😁) and is a total salvation during dry season. Thank you so much for your videos, they are always so beautifully filmed and interesting ❤️

Hi I love your videos. When i make mine I use a hand mixer. It makes a more whipped body butter or lighter butter. Because i have more oily skin and do not like the heavy or more oily feel. Toward the end of mixing i add in arrowroot powder. It helps give you the silky feel not so oily. You could also use tapioca powder. Thank you for always sharing yourself with us.

Not sure if it was mentioned already in the comments (didn't see) but citrus EO's make the skin photosensitive, so it's good to be aware and either not use 24 hours before spending a lot of time in the sun or to wear extra protection. That would include Angelica, Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Orange, Wild Orange, and Tangerine

Do you have any videos to show how to maintain that slowness and peace while prepping for house guests for the upcoming holidays ? What are some ways to give guests a spirit of welcome, and the feeling of refuge / refreshment while being in your home ? It's hard to not feel pressured to place unrealistic expectations on myself to be perfect , do more , be more .. . at this time of year . Especially with all the lovely ,perfect Pinterest pictures !

Loved that combination of essential oils you had lined up! One question regarding the body cream - how long does it last? And would adding vitamin E prolong its life? Love from NZ ♥️

M C adding vitE is a great idea. Omit aloe vera as it will last longer... couple of months at room temperature.

Hi Niamh! I have the ingredients on board and will give this a try today. I was curious if the cream stays soft once mixed or does it harden. I have tried other body butters and am looking for one that stays fairly soft. Thanks again for your inspiration! Have a great week, my friend! Cheers :)
