You are officially my fav. Every seemingly obscure question I've typed into youtube regarding body butter is always answered by Humblebee & Me. I love it here!!
A few other tutorials, I've seen them pop the bowls in the freezer before using it. Therefore when they start the whipping, it counteracts the heat generated during whipping.
I just wanna take this moment to appreciate your work ,I have been watching your video recently and it's so helpful with lot of information covered . thank you soomuch 😍
Thank you! I made my first body butter and I had the issue of it hardening shortly after whipping. Going to add more oil in my second attempt. This video is a valuable resource. :)
I’ve heard to whip anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on how much oils you are whipping, and that the longer the better, but then I watched a video today and the gal was saying to be careful not to over whip it …. That it can get clumpy if it’s over whipped. Too confusing
That’s right. I heard up to 30 mins as well. Mine just went harder in the fridge but as soon as I whip it it goes lotion-y. My first body butter went hard. I give up 🥲
Great tutorial. My whipped body butters usually come out fine but this last batch has been a disaster. Using shea, cocoa butter and apricot oil and a little arrowroot plus essential oils, I do the heat then fast cooling method, But what's happened is that the surface has hardened but the rest is too sloppy to form soft peaks. So I keep adding more cocoa butter. I think I might divide the mixture and work with it smaller batches as you suggested. I hope this solves this issue. Thanks
im just experimenting as of now, yesterday i created one but it was to greasy so ha to start over today is a bit better added less oil , doing the whipping / freezing method till i get the right texture
Hey my love if I whip my body buttter already but want to have it a little more firm can I just add the coco butter melted or I have to melt everything up again then add the coco butter.
I bought some African Shea butter a few years ago and has been kept in a cool, dark closet area. I’ve finally got myself revved up to try making my own creams again. My question is: the Shea butter I have is solid and looks fine but smells slightly off, almost like cooking oil when it goes rancid. Is it okay to use since I’ll be adding an essential oil or should I buy new butter?? Thank you
@humblebee&Me I would love to know if I can fix it and how to fix my body butter. I made one with 8 oz shea butter (partially melted with a double boiler), 3 tbsp jojoba, 3 tbsp rosehip oil, 2 tbsp Aloe Vera gel and, ten capsules of Vitamin E, a few drops of essential oil. I left it in the freezer for about half an hour; everything looked good. It looked creamy while blending but NOT fluffy. After a few hours in the container, it turned into a hard cream rather than a light and fluffy butter. I’m curious about what might have caused this and, even more so, how I might fix it. Could you please help?
Hi! Generally, it sounds like you have too much solid stuff and not enough liquid stuff for your ambient temperature. Check out this video to learn more: th-cam.com/video/_WaO5uG5sYU/w-d-xo.html. I am also concerned about the aloe vera gel in your formulation. Aloe vera gel is mostly water, so it doesn't mix well with fat without an emulsifier (which your DIY does not have), and it can cause the product to mold without a proper preservative (which your DIY also does not have) 😕 In the future, avoid DIYs that call for aloe vera gel as an ingredient in body butters unless they contain an emulsifier and preservative. For now, I would attempt to remove it by melting the product and cooling it in the fridge; the oils should float to the top and solidify, leaving the aloe/water behind at the bottom. Remove the oils and discard the aloe. From there you can try incorporating more liquids and re-whipping. Happy making!
I have several :) I'll link the videos below, but I also really want to encourage you to check out the free partner blog post each video has. Just watching your video and it’s the first one I’ve seen with so much helpful information. This is my first time making body butter. I purchased mango, shea butter, almond oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil (in small 4oz containers), vitamin E capsules and arrow root. Do you have a link to make small batches with these ingredients?
They both help reduce oiliness/greasiness, but it is never a good idea to replace a powder with a liquid or vice versa :) You'd have to do some re-development if you did that.
Thanks so much for your videos! My body butter came out grainy. Do you think i may have added too much arrow root powder? Still working on my miracle blend! :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe I wouldn’t know. I got it from a company and it came like that. I tried searching Google, YT etc. couldn’t find a single thing about it. A friend thinks it’s because it has water as a filler and the company got it factory made so it comes un scented and then one melts it and adds fragrance. In this case this is what happened; it turned into a glob.
Do whatever works for the formulation-truly! Just experiment and see-it'll depend. Don't be afraid to try things! You might need to melt, you might not. Try :)
Wouldn’t the finished body butter melt in shipping, even if you do the freeze, whip, freeze method? Correct me if I’m wrong but if it doesn’t hold its shape in the beginning of mixing and it requires the Freeze/ whip method to get it to whip up and hold shape, wouldn’t it ultimately go back to its natural mixed fluid state? I hope this makes sense
Shipping isn't the issue; heat is :) You can learn more here: Why is my body butter melting?: www.humblebeeandme.com/why-is-my-body-butter-melting/ Partner video: th-cam.com/video/M8HwCjsB23A/w-d-xo.html
What she means is during shipping it is exposed to heat, I don’t think she’s saying the shipping itself melts the body butter. This could also occur during storage etc.
Whip air in is to build a structure, certain oils and butters take too much strength from and can add too much strength to it’s structure, integrity perfect tech is hard to acheave for me anyways.

I whipped cocoa butter today and yes!! It seized 😫 I was so excited!
The problem is all these recipes out there DON'T tell you how long you should whip the butters
Right that's what I want to know is how long to whip the butters

I live in a very hot climate. This was very informative. I still have to determine the ratio for me

Hey my love if I whip my body buttter already but want to have it a little more firm can I just add the coco butter melted or I have to melt everything up again then add the coco butter.
Where do you get these eco friendly body butter containers?? Been searching everywhere for a paper like container that won’t bleed

What is a good ratio of butter to liquid? I am testing 75% butters and 25% oils
That's a great place to start! Check out this video for some more info/ideas/demos, too: th-cam.com/video/_WaO5uG5sYU/w-d-xo.html

Hi, my body butter turned out crumbly, I added more liquid oil, but still the same, help please. Will read more from you about this, thanks

Do you have cold processed?
What if my hairmask don’t stay hard and separate I can see the beeswax / emulsifier wax been hard again , and the butters & oil soft almost oils 😭
This was a great video! Very helpful and informative! I’ll be taking these tips in for my next recipe ☺️
❤️ I'm so glad you found it helpful!
Hi, Marie. Does arrow root powder and IPM serve the same purpose in formulations? Also, is it a good idea to replace the arrow root with the IPM?

Do you have a link for the stainless steel bowls please? I'm sure you posted recently on the blog or a video but I can't find it.
I don't, sorry-they second hand + many years old.
@@HumblebeeAndMe Thank you anyway :)
I mixed cocoa butter and shea butter, glycerin and cold pressed rosehip oil .....it keeps going back to be brittle
Can we add oils to the too hard batch or do we have to start over?
Gorgeous!!! 💕
Yes mine is hard! What to do?
Thanks so much for your videos! My body butter came out grainy. Do you think i may have added too much arrow root powder? Still working on my miracle blend! :)
She has a video on that too!
Is it possible to recover if you left it in the freezer too long?
Definitely, just take it out and let it warm up a bit. You can even gently re-melt it and start over.
What would cause a body butter to glob into one big glob surrounded by a cloudy liquid?
That sounds like trying to make an emulsion without an emulsifier to me.

Oh goodness. Do you have an ingredient list? Any chance it was exposed to high heats in shipping?
how do i add butter or oil to the batch if its too hard or soft. i mean directly to the whippind butter or need to melt and add

Just do a 1:1 ratio of butter and oil to even it all out
