    The flax seed gel (let the liquid cook longer) is a great alternative to hair gel for curly hair. Apply when your hair is wet, scrunch to create curls. Let your hair dry naturally and then scrunch out the cast and it leaves your hair curly but defined. A natural alternative to the chemical mouse and gels advertised for curly hair.

      My hair is pin straight but a don't like hot curling and heatless curls don't form well on me. Do you think the gel would give my hair some wave and maybe a bit of better curling if I use it for heatless curling? Is there any other alternative other than flax seed? that is quite out of my budget for now.

    • @FairylandCottage
      @FairylandCottage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hummm if your hair is pin straight it is tricky to create a wave. I dont think the gel would change the hair. So sorry. Also whole flaxseed is super cheap in Ireland but I can't think of an alternative.

      @@FairylandCottage my hair is very stubborn. I have been googling alternatives but i also didn't find anything. I will try flaxseed once i can get it! I want to take the chance to say that i love your channel! Here, in Sweden, living different lifestyles is very expensive. Being vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, or latose intolerant can be crazy expensive. Zero waste and plastic-free is hard to find. The country is grea at handling their trash and so they don't strive for alternatves. there isn't a deman by the population either. there is a store called Normal that has a few zero waste alternatives for cheaper, so I can get a wooden toothbrush, wooden dishwashing bush, and bar shampoo. I already started using reusable cloth pads which i love1 Anyway, i mean to say that it is hard to make changes here because of the lack of alternatives, but I really want to do my best despite my very limited income. Thank you

    Thanks for this recipe. My hair was thinning, I would lose a handful of hair every time I combed through it. I used this recipe twice, my hair is no longer falling out as I comb it. I love this hair mask.

    What a delightful channel wished I'd found it sooner. My partner hasn't washed his hair for over 3 years and his hair is so soft and nice now, it's amazing. I haven't shampooed my hair for over 3 years but couldn't commit to not washing at all until recently but finally stopped washing my hair in September this year. For the last 6 months though I have been plagued with the most intense itchy scalp I think because my hair and scalp are so dry which has driven me crazy so today I have made this mask and the results are amazing. It gives your hair body and feels lovely so I hope it will help get rid of the itch. I have used amla masks on my hair this year which does colour your hair naturally and should cover grey, it's also great for conditioning your hair.
    I was hoping my hair would go white as I got older but instead, it has gone honey blonde for some reason yet my hair was originally dark reddish-brown. I haven't dyed my hair for 10 years but it looks like I have had highlights but without the roots. Try amla, it really gives a nice warm colour to greying hair and not the orange that you get with henna.
    For cutting perfect layers in your hair, try a Creaclip. My daughter has the most gorgeous thick very long dark hair which she cuts herself using a creaclip, I also use this. After layering, I trim the ends of her hair and she trims mine. It saves a fortune on hairdressing fees.

    I just tried this hair mask this morning, and it's worked beautifully! My scalp is not itchy, gorgous shiny hair! I just added a spoon of honey for the moisture and because my scalp and hair love honey. I think that maybe it wash the hair a little bit so, it can be use like a smooth gentle mask/shampoo!

    An easier alternative to the cheese cloth and having to squeeze out the gel is to use a coffee plunger. The trick to this is to cook the seeds until they boil and then simmer for only 5 minutes. Any longer and I find the gel is too thick to pass through the mesh. Once left to sit until cool it solidifies enough to use.

      How do you use chickpea flour to wash your hair? I really want to try the no-shampoo method. But I don't want to use baking soda in place of shampoo as that'll dry out my hair. So does chickpea flour dry out hair too? How's the results so far? How to use it?

      Anushka Dhar hi there! Niamh has a video all about using chickpea flour as a base for shampoo, I use that recipe☺️☺️ I haven't found it to dry out my hair but I have naturally oily roots anyway, only thing I have noticed is that after washing my hair with the chickpea flour it can feel a tiny bit dry on the ends and perhaps a bit gritty, it's hard to describe 😂 but definitely feels very clean which is so amazing!! (Yay for no chemical ingredients we can't pronounce!) but a good fix for that is Argan oil as Niamh outlines in her video☺️☺️ I used argan oil ages ago and it makes your hair so sleek and shiny ☺️ I don't think I'll ever go back to regular shampoo 👍

      Fairyland Cottage I made the hair mask today. I halved the recipe because my hair is shorter and thinner than yours. I added a few drops of rosemary essential oil which is supposed to be good for the scalp. It smells very nice. My hair has never been shiny, but my husband says it has some shine to it now. My hair feels more healthy. I do have some flyaways up top that I usually don’t see, so I might make and use the gel for that.
      Thanks for the recipe. Hopefully with continued use, I will see even more shine and repair.
      How often do you use the mask?

    Thank you Niamh! I will get the seeds this week & give it a try...Can this be used in place of conditioner on wet hair? Sometimes I use Avocado oil with ginger 'juice'; together on my scalp before washing. :-)

    • @FairylandCottage
      @FairylandCottage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohh I like the idea of ginger juice, I haven't tried that before...
      Yes this can be used as a conditioner. Sometimes I just make half the amount and use on wet hair after washing... It's wonderful!

    Niamh, thank you so much for what you do. such a nice recipe, as always :) can't wait to try it but need to buy seeds first. how do you think will it also work as a hair conditioner?

    • @FairylandCottage
      @FairylandCottage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works great as a hair conditioner. I make half the amount and use after washing.
      Bit more effort as you would need a preservative if you wanted to keep more than a day or too

      Hi there, I don't use shampoo but if I did I would use the Sukin brand. Carbon neutral company.
      I use chickpea flour as shampoo but this mask really helps my scalp.
      I have also heard that nettles are good for itchy scalp.

      the two tensives in this shampoo are very gentle, but caution; much citrus and orange peel
      essential oils wich can be photosensitive, and a polyquaternium in the formula

      Thanks! I asked my partner to smell. He said it smells of fenugreek... now I like the smell of fenugreek but not everyone does so if you dont maybe add some essential oils to the mixture.

      yes actually.. half the mixture and because I wash my hair once a week I make it up sometimes as a conditioner.. I find it works great! just a bit of trouble to make but if you only wash hair once a week then its fine...
