I also love leaves. Watching you is so calming.
Leaves, they are everywhere so it is a universal subject matter that I just happen to love. Thank you for your comment!
A leaf journal really resonates with me. I go camping a lot and I have already started a wildflower journal 5x7. I find a wildflower that's new or interesting, pick one bloom, paint or draw it and then press the flower between the pages.
I also have a really small watercolor journal that's 3.5x 3.5 which has surprisingly good paper but I was at a loss what to do with it.
Last camping trip, as I was sketching my wildflower, a tiny green inchworm crawled across my page and I thought "AHA!". My tiny bug book was born and starts off with a painting of a happy green inchworm (I don't harm the bugs of course). It's fun and simple, with no pressure to make a perfect painting, and it makes me happy. Anything that encourages you to paint more, is a very good thing.
So glad that a leaf journal is in your thoughts. It brings me a lot of joy to walk in the yard, pick up a leaf of interest and paint it immediately. Love the wildflower idea, might have to try that in the spring when so many varieties pop up. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for all you're sharing here on your TH-cam channel. I can't tell you how it's motivated me to explore painting. That was/is my fall intention... to paint. I'm a beginner, and can so use you educating me, encouraging me and making me think. Thanks for that!
You are so nice, thank you for your kind comments! I love to inspire other artists so you have stopped at the right place, enjoy!
I am so happy to find your channel. Your watercolor art is very inspiring.
Barbara, thank you so much and I'm thrilled that you are inspired YEAH!
I'm really enjoying this. Thank you
So happy to hear that you were inspired. Thanks for watching!
This is the 2nd video of yours I’ve watched. Your channel and messages are just what I need in my art journey right now. Thank you Kelly for sharing your art and experiences
Such a nice comment, thank you for that! I'm thrilled to be an inspiration for your art journey, if even for a little bit.
I just stumbled upon your channel. Thank you for sharing your journey. You are both calming and inspiring!
P.S. I also love the tundra green!
I'm so happy that you were inspired and we share the love of Tundra Green, YEAH!
We CAN hear the joy! Thank you for sharing your joy, beauty and courage with us. Looking forward to watching more.
I'm so glad it came through loud and clear, thanks for making me smile with your comments!
Inspiring! Thank you...
I'm so happy that you found inspiring in the video. Thank you for watching!
What great insight. I have been struggling with this for weeks as I sit staring at a pile of blank sketchbooks of various sizes, paper and brands. I'm going to try to take your encouragement to start something, anything, to break the stalemate of that pile of sketchbooks. I think one of the hurdles I struggle with is that since I have been "good at art" my entire life, I am hesitant in that I might create something that is less than great. I really need to get past that stigma. Thanks for sharing your sketchbook practice.
I'm so glad you found this helpful YEAH! So, open one up, any page and just make one mark. A splash of color, a pencil line, glue in a picture. You've got this! Remember sketchbooks are personal, only you have to see inside them. Thanks so much for your comments!
Kelly - thank you so much - I've watched several of your videos and I've loved watching you paint leaves. Such a lovely idea - I've started painting leaves from my garden and it's such a joy to use the outline of a leaf as a guide and then all my attention goes into the paint and observing how it mixes and flows - and while I'm trying to make them realistic-ish - I'm not too obsessive about it - it's all an opportunity to learn about the paint and the brushes. xx
Thank you so much and I'm glad you have enjoyed painting my favorite subject, leaves! They are an obsession of mine and I just can't stop painting them LOL
This is so inspirational. Thank you for sharing! I’m starting ASAP
YEAH! I'm so happy to hear that. You are going to love having a place to continually practice your artwork.
I am so glad I found your channel. Your videos uplift me!
You are so kind, thank you so much! There is a lot to watch and I have created playlists to make it easier for viewing if you are looking for something specific.
Beautiful 😊🌿🌱🍀🍃🌷🪻🪷🎋🦜🦩🐓🐄🐏🦌thank you 👏🏻
You are very welcome and thanks for all the emojis!
My first DIY sketchbook is a 9 x 7 1/2 plastic 3-ring binder with front and back clear pockets. I cut the watercolor paper 8 1/2 x 6 1/2 sheets. Then punched 3 holes in each. I put a painting into the front and back pockets. So no anxiety about how to start. This is my favorite, and I look at it often
What a great sketchbook and you can add pages continually which is wonderful! Thank you for watching and finding inspiration on my channel.
Love this video! You are so encouraging and informative.
Thank you so much. Glad you were inspired! Have you pulled out your sketchbook yet? I sure hope so.
We might be twins! LOL Watching you flip through your sketchbook is like looking through some of mine. Ratty, broken, aging, nibbled leaves are my absolutely favorite thing to paint... well, leaves and other odd bits of things I find outside; twigs, seed pods, pine cones, pebbles, etc. So glad I stumbled upon your videos, will definitely be watching. :')
Twins you made me crack up. Then I read further - twigs, seed pods, pebbles - OMG it is true, we are twins. So happy my family just got a little larger, welcome to my channel!
Beautiful
Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
Your sketchbooks are very artistic! I love how you compose and manage your white space.
Thank you so much. I love, love, love design and composition so it is always on my mind.
Thank you for this beautiful lesson. I am on my own journey of discovery and learning watercolous and I am so inspired by your journey and approach of practicing and experimenting.
I love that we are both discovering and creating with watercolors, nice to know that I am in such great company. Thanks for sharing your comments with me, I really appreciate it Tania!
I really love this! I have some little journals that I need to fill! Thank you!
So happy that you were inspired. Hope you pulled a journal out today and started using it!
I have been following artists on TH-cam for about 3 years. You just popped up on my page about 3 weeks ago! I’m so happy you did. You have changed my entire perspective on painting. I have to go now, out to collect leaves 😉. Thank you.
That is the best compliment ever, thank you for making my day! Welcome to collecting leaves, it is my favorite pastime.
So pretty love it
Thank you so much, hope it inspired you to find your first sketchbook!
Danke für die Inspiration! Traumhaft schön!
Thank you so much for your kind comments. I'm so glad you were inspired!
Fabulous! Thank you for sharing your exploration journey. 💖🎨
You are very welcome and thanks for watching!
Absolutely beautiful leaves ... thank you for sharing them. 🙂
You are so welcome and I hope this simple subject inspired you to try some!
Love your enthusiasm as you are freeing yourself from realistic painting and the joy in your voice… !❤
Thank you so much. It has and continues to be a huge journey into finding freedom in my paintings.
Beautiful leaves! Thank you for sharing your sketchbook and the way you overcame your fear of starting. It's very motivating for me! I'll try to follow your method...
I don't know why we have that fear of a new sketchbook but I'm glad this gave you some ideas to push forward!
You have inspired me in so many, many ways. I finally understand Art Spark! Now maybe I can finally start. Many, many thanks❤
I'm so happy to hear that and yes to Art Spark, it is a wonderful course to play in! Remember no rules, just endless possibilities!
“The first thing I want you to think about…” That’s such an important question. I have successfully copied many admirable TH-cam artists’ work. That was fine but I wanted to do my own stuff-and had not learned how to start and carry off a painting. I didn’t know how to make decisions, didn’t know that decisions ARE a huge part of every painting.
So I want to learn to think and explore. Not to be excessively analytical, more in order to strengthen curiosity.
Thanks. Your channel is helping me.
It is a huge question and one that will take you a long way in discovering your voice as an artist. What matters? What story? What elements? What colors? Be gentle with yourself because it is a process but being aware every time you create and adding little bits that matter to you will change how you represent yourself as an artist. Enjoy the journey, it is an exciting one to be on!
I have almost finished my first sketch book. I am having so much fun. I have stopped trying to paint big paintings and painting to sell. I'm tired of that. I have stopped trying to paint perfectly and feeling let down when it doesn't turn out well,. And I have always had an excitement about nature and natural bark, grasses, leaves, and very twisted and old dried things. I just want to have fun painting for ME now! I believe have found my happy place. Thank you.
YEAH! There is nothing more than feeling just like yourself in creating. Once the sketchbook is filled, sitting back and thinking about the results and how satisfying they were is what makes you start another one to see what happens next. Enjoy the journey, it is so beautiful!
love your art. your journals are amazing. i also use the tumuarta journals. they are
the best watercolor journals and i have tried them all.
Thank you so much, it is my progression through watercolor and tumuarta has been a huge part of my journey. Glad I'm not the only one who uses them!
Your instruction is so personal! I feel welcomed by your presentation. I have been painting for years and I still get stuck. Thank you for this inspiration❤️
You are welcome Janet! I love to share, teach and inspire other artists just like you.
What a great masterclass! Thank you for posting this - will watch it again. It really hit home.
Sketchbooks are such a personal thing so I'm glad this spoke to you, thanks for watching!
The best part of this is when you say that this is just for me. I make the paintings mine. I'm not trying to paint better than someone else. It's my own creation. That's very reassuring. Thank you.
I'm so happy that you were inspired, thank you for watching!
You inspire me! Can’t wait to play with my colors!
YEAH! Love that you were inspired to play with your palette, so good!
What an inspiring teacher you are. Thankyou
You are very welcome, thanks for watching and hope you were inspired!
You give me confidence to try new things 😮
Yes to trying new things! You've got this, play, experiment but most of all, do it with a smile on your face. This will change your art life, promise!
I can identify so much with you
Thank you so much! Hope it has inspired you to give a sketchbook a try.
Im glad i found you!
Me too, welcome to In the Studio! There are a lot of Playlists on my channel if you find you want to dive into a specific subject - enjoy!
This looks quite realistic to me. It’s lovely.
