Yea! Thank you. I have looked everywhere for that marble soap dish/brush holder since I saw someone else on You Tube using it for brushes.

Before watching Alvaro Castagnet paint with Daniel Smith's Lunar Black watercolor, I was one of those watercolorist that never used white or black paints. When I saw the texture Mr. Castagnet achieved with the Lunar Black, I knew I had to get a tube abd I've never regretted it! You can easily make all of the "dusk/muted/graphitint" type dark & moody colors just by adding a tinge of it to any of your brighter colors. It's super versatile!
The texture of the Lunars is something I just can't forget about. It just keeps calling to me!
Soap dish hack = brilliant!
It was the only thing I could find to contain the water. As a brush holder, I just wanted something pretty yet functional. Win-win for both and glad you liked it too!
@@kellyhoernig Very clever! I love affordable and easily accessible tools. It makes total sense! I go to the dollar tree to get pallets for acrylic painting because they have a million great options. I'm new to watercolor and am still learning the tricks. Thanks for helping me!
@@HaileyAndTheArt buying tracing paper in the kids aisle is another great one. It usually has twice the sheets and is about half the price.
@@kellyhoernig Oh man that is fantastic! I just starting using it last week and I am going through it faster than I would like. Do you use transfer paper or graphite on the back of the tracing paper to transfer to the watercolor paper? Thank you so much for taking the time, it's so kind. ❤️
@@HaileyAndTheArt I use graphite on the back of tracing paper to transfer mostly because I am using a sketchbook. When drawing directly I like a mechanical or watercolor pencil.

I just received the Art Nouveau set and I love it! It's so popular that there is a back order on it for a lot of art supply sites. I use it mainly for my abstracts and it is so much fun playing with different color combinations and watching how they "bloom" together when they are wet and overlapping each other. I just found your channel this morning. Subscribed! I enjoyed your "art haul". Love the little drawer holders for tube paints, especially how they stack to get the most out of available space. And I didn't know about the three shades of Unipen! Am going to hunt for them! Thank you for a very informative post! Am going to check out your other videos today. Thank you, Kelly. I have little kitty brush holders (chopstick rests) that are black and white respectively that I just love. I also have some cute whales. That could easily be something fun to ollect. I also have been using the Uni-pin markers for quite a while. Like you, I like the shades they come in. I have them in black, brown, and even navy blue. They do add a nice dimension to our artwork, don't they? All of your other supplies are really nice, too. I like that when you do classes and lessons, you encourage us to use our own supplies. That is very helpful, as I find that most of the time, what we have actually works well. Looking forward to a creative year in 2024 with you!

@@kellyhoernig I sent you a message. The Navy Blue one was a Tombow Mono lining pen - the outer sleeve looks blu-ish but it is really a black pen. Sorry for that.
I follow a watercolor teacher on TH-cam. He has a video that he talked about his most used colors. I have two colors in my Mission Gold tube set so I bought the colors I didn’t have (from Holbein, Daniel Smith, and Mission Gold). It’s my first time buying individual tubes. My goodness I love all the colors. They are enough for floral, sky, urban, water, nature. I especially love cobalt green and Fuchsite for water. I can never mix the hues just right. I bought 4 tiny tins (2”x1.5”), each with tiny palette (12 wells). I created 4 sets of palettes to have the colors I love and use more often. Since I am new to watercolor and only practice on 3x3 or 3x5 size with small brushes, little bit of paint goes a long way.
Creating a custom palette for the way you want to use watercolors and in the subjects you like is a brilliant way to be inspired. Thanks for sharing!

I have the black soap dish. I like that it holds multiple sized brushes but it also keeps them level so the water isn’t running down into the ferrule and wood handle. I also have the kuretake set and love the colors so much. Really nice video of really great supplies!
It is a big step up from the stack of paper towels LOL I like that they each have their own designated place and can drip off of the dish too. Glad you enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed seeing your special art supplies Kelly. I am at the moment Re jigging my art room, there is so much I can’t find at the moment and although we have been here for seven months now time has just flown by and I need to reorganise most of the cupboards! I do enjoy it once I get going though! 😊

Can someone tell me if there is a difference between an oval brush and a cats tongue brush? To me they look the same because they both have tips
I believe they are the same brush just named differently depending on the brand. When looking at the photos of both, it seems like the oval wash has longer bristles than the cats tongue but you are correct, they both seem to go to a beautiful point at the end.

If so, I’m happy to see another tole painter teaching water color! I’m enjoying my water colors, but the transition is slowing me down. So much to unlearn.
