I love your sweet bag, that on its own would encourage me to use my art supplies. I find your sketches encouraging, they certainly give a flavour of what you experienced in France. I’m Not up to your standard but it shows you don’t need to go mad with colour.
The bag is so cute, I love carrying it but it was the portability that make it perfect. Just doing it was so satisfying and I hope you put one together and get out there painting if even in your own yard. Thanks for watching!
I loved this video. A beautiful book to remember your experiences. I too found France to be amazing. Every place you go to has a "feel" to it and Paris felt like magic to me. I fell in love instantly. It would be awesome if you showed us sometime how you did your stabilo drawings, they are simple, but really beautiful, it gives an amazing effect.
Thank you for sharing. 😊 Your painting reminds me of my first person that inspired me to start painting. Her paintings were not perfect at all. 😂 It failed of details and ratios. But it’s full of life and her impression from her trip. It’s really touched my heart. And I started painting afterwards. 😊 I learn that Art is something that is not perfect but it’s full of unspeakable happiness memories. Thank you for your beautiful memories. 😊
Great video. So many good ideas! What a lovely way to remember your trip - through your artwork. I love that you didn’t feel like you had to draw/paint the whole building, etc., but rather captured the details that were meaningful to you that would remind you of the places you visited. Your loose, sketchy style is absolutely beautiful.
Hi Kelly - lovely video, you’ve created some beautiful memories in your sketchbook! Greetings from the UK p.s. please be very careful what you show to camera avoid showing ANY personal info and stay safe!
your enthusiasm is wonderful! i'm going to Scotland next week with my first travel sketching/watercolor kit and your video is inspiring - thank you for posting
Thanks so much Christie and enjoy Scotland. Think about all the greenery, castles and water/skies for your palette. You are going to have an amazing time with your sketchbook. Enjoy every single minute!
What a wonderful adventure ... 'off to France' you went and knew just what to do there! Your travel kit is perfectly suited for everyday carry as well. Love the sketchbook tour. Thanks for sharing ❤ I am a new subscriber.
I did quite a bit of research before going just so I would have a nice little palette to carry with me while traveling. The colors are pretty standard and still make a great on-the-go palette. Thanks for your comments and subscribing!
Thanks for sharing the details and sketches of your trip to France. Well done, Kelly. Every piece will bring back strong and wonderful memories. So inspirational.
It takes me a while to sketch also but the more you do it, the easier it gets. Try sketching something around the house everyday to get you use to looking at how to break things down with shapes. You will be amazed how quickly you start to see progress.
Thank you so much. Hope you've created a little go bag for just heading anywhere at all. It works the same and captures memories where ever you go which is what I really treasure!
@@maureencepiel959 since they are filled with water, there is no need to take any with you when out and about. Just squeeze the tube and out comes the water making it really easy to apply color. Take some kind of paper towel or cotton material to clean off the tips if you are worried about color contamination. Hope that helps!
I am interested in the backgrounds for your sketches. You say you used watered down acrylics as a background wash. I notice your artwork coordinates with colors as the background washes, did you prepare the entire sketchbook with these washes before you left on your trip? Doesn't the use of acrylic on watercolor paper seal the surface and make it hard for the watercolor to absorb into the paper?
I did all the backgrounds first as a way to get over the blank page. When I found something I wanted to paint, I searched the journal for what I thought would coordinate (this was a really exciting part of the process for me). I used DecoArt acrylics which have a really matte surface and the watercolor went right over it without issues.
I am. I only started a few months ago. Always loves art. Never understood watercolor paint before. Discovered it is just right for me. I finally got to a point where I realized I want to delve deeper into the abyss of watercolor paints and 100% cotton paper and have ordered some. Trying to wait patiently because things don’t arrive for another week or longer so I can experience the other side of watercolor painting. I am very interested in your quails and feathers class so I hope to take that next step soon!
@@ojluna waiting for supplies is no fun because we want them now, right? Hopefully just a little while longer before you can delve into watercolor bliss. Thank you for your comments and Quail Eggs & Feathers will be waiting for you.
Thank you for the prompt reply. It did not look like 3.5 x 3.5 That would be a square and It did not look square. It looked larger. Was a single sheet of paper folded in 1/2 used? I liked the way it looked and would like to duplicate it. Thanks again
The journal was custom made for my travel bag. I went and measured and it is 4.5" wide x 6" tall (each page). Have fun creating a journal for yourself!

Beautiful video, delightful artwork! I especially liked the color & gentle tones of the compositions ❤😊
Thank you so much for your kind comments. I am getting a little bolder in my watercolors but really do love those soft, muted tones.

I loved your “tour”. So much passion and you got the essence of it all. I also love how you simplified. I always add too much detail. Thank you
Details are a struggle for sure. As I paint with watercolor I'm always telling myself loose and simple, loose and simple. It helps a lot.
Love that bag.
it is pretty darn cute and I love carrying it around with all of my art supplies. Thanks!
A lovely video, I am just starting my sketchbook journey and have put together a plein air kit. Thank you for the inspiration. 💜🙏
Wow, that is so exciting to hear! Have fun painting while you are out and about. Thanks for watching.
Your sketchbook is so lovely. I can see your passion in those pages. And you’ve inspired me to pare down my travel art supplies!

I did not know that you could paint watercolor over acrylics. Will definitely practice this technique. Thank you!
Yes you can, just make sure that the acrylic layer is lighter in value so the watercolor layers will show.
@@kellyhoernig How do you use the "water brushes " ? A friend gave me 3, and I'm not sure what application they're good for.

Thank you for your wonderful comment, it has made my day!
Have you considered using swedish dishcloths as a replacement for paper towels? They work really great for water color!
Thank you, I will look into that!

Thank you so much and glad you liked my first travel journal.
You did an amazing job. I want to sketch so badly, but I have a real problem with perspective. I'm impressed with your work.
Perspective is a tough one but practicing and sketching more will let you see where you are going astray. Keep sketching it will help, I promise!
