- Today I'm sharing my new sketchbook. Showing you examples from Color In and Out of the Garden book that inspired me to create new work of my own. Also giving you a sketchbook tour of what I have watercolor painted in it so far. It is a great example of the Art of Practice.

You have totally inspired me to pursue daily Sketchbook practice. I am currently following a format like your 100 day project, but this gives me another option after exploring my palette in three color mixes. Oh! Your new book is really beautiful. I love the inspirational ideas you have. I picked up some leaves yesterday and and they are full of lovely colors. I spent some time last night painting a leaf in detail, matching the colors from the colors inmy palette. It is rewarding and relaxing to be able to replicate the colors and textures. So many beautiful inspirations are literally in our own back yards! Thank you, Kelly.

It is one of my favorite sketchbooks because of the small size but I love the paper. Hope you give this exercise a try, it is just so much fun with endless possibilities!

Oh my goodness!! I loved this video and all your great ideas. I feel really silly because I have a bunch of paints in tubes that I don't use often because it's just not handy. I have empty half pans and will be getting a box for them. THEN I'll be making a box up and swatching the colors. Thank you for this idea. I loved seeing your sketch book! It's just beautiful. This is beautiful! I really wish I could do this. However, I’m a rank beginner; only been painting for about four months. But I’m putting on my wish list for a goal to aspire to.
This is a great exercise for beginners. Start simple, what do you see as the basic color? Let's say yellow. Start by slowing adding one color to see what wonderful mixes you come up with. Make some notes about what you liked, found interesting and would like to do more studies on. Art is about continued practice and growing from doing it. You've got this, I promise!

Lovely! I had seen this book in the shop before and quite liked it but didn’t think of a specific use. It’s a nice idea to repeat the exercise in a dedicated sketchbook

I love this book and her Instagram! Her color matching is amazing and she has so many great examples. I remember being intrigued by her shell series with all the subtle shifts of whites (not really white), grays, blues, and purples. I have been pondering how to create a similar swatching practice and love your idea. And your grid template was brilliant…leaving the wider edge and bottom so that you can easily line it up on the page. Love that! Thanks for another great video!

OK--do not laugh at me. The caput mortem that you put your finger on in the video--go back at look at it on your video--it looks like a face and on the right side of the face is the ear--LOL--does anyone but me see this???
