Thanks for the great videos! Question about the JTo hand I didn't fully understand. You're saying you rather want to bluff without the diamonds because OOP is calling with most Td or Jd. Doesn't that mean you rather want to bluff with the Td/Jd(blocking calls)?
yeah i worded that a little badly. I meant that when i don't hold either of those cards, OOP will hold more KT and KJ with a diamond that will fold vs turn barrel cus they heavily block my bluffs
It's always understandable when I see guys like you playing 1k+, I'm sure it's because of your mental stability. Psychology is the way underrated factor for poker player. When I'm comparing my poker skills to others I see big advantage in level of thinking and logic and creativity. But in the same time I cant accept loosing. I've fast reached nl400 some time ago, but first swing for just a 10 buyins almost crushed me. So theory is not everything, you also have to have crazy love for the game and dont give a f*ck about money. So guys like Bena inspiring me to be more positive and playful. Because I imagine if I would lose 100k, I would be already in mental house and pulling my hair off)
thanks for the kind words mate, and as to your last sentence, i had a full head of hair before the 100k ds (kidding ofc hahaha)! firstly you gotta know that there are plenty of hs regs with atrocious mental game lol. i know some big winners who also absolutely hate to lose - likely due to their insane levels of competitiveness. this is very normal, especially in a zero sum game. for me personally, i didn't have good mental game until a good 5-6 years into my career and this largely came from my psychotherapy training. there is so much we can talk about with this topic, but i guess the one question i would recommend you ask yourself is what is it about losing at the tables that makes you feel the way you feel? it's not so much that you need to get to the bottom of it, but so you can begin to get to know your emotional responses. hope that offers a little bit of help! glglgl
Mindset and work ethic is the most important part of the game. I can bet almost anyone with an avg. IQ can grasp the strategy part for at least beating up to 1k. But its how you perform under pressure is what makes or breaks you. I know people 3x smarter than me who are not able to beat it, simply because of the mindset component. Too emotional, not understand variance or simply not patient.
Great content Ben please keep up ! I have one question from the exploit side about the JTo hand: I like your TP which came from a GTO eye , but when you see call like that , how do you usually adjust after seeing that? Usually i see in my 200-500 games that spots like that where boards are paired and a lot of busted are present are overcalled with the TP region (hands like KQ are prob called 100% by some opponents) and so i find myself stopping OTR but also OTT to "model" my range towards value heavy bets . Hope i made my selfclear. Cheers !
thanks mate! yeah it’s tough because we can’t always know if our opponents are over or under calling, even more so in anon pools. I’d say the best advice in public/open pools with screen names, taking plenty of notes on players when you see showdowns is essential. Sizings used, value bets, bluffs, etc. It isn’t a perfect science but it should help you make more accurate decisions. as for unknowns, using your hud is gunna be your best option, and if you don’t have a hud, something as simple as constantly checking the hand replayer for information on how new players play.
Hey Ben, really enjoying your content. Was wondering what you would reccomend is the best/fastest way to improve and move up stake for a slightly winning 25nl player? I am slightly winning post rake, there are lots of holes and uncertainties in my game that I know I need refining I'm just not sure what direction to look as it seems like there is a lot of bad advice/coaching platforms out there. I don't want to cultivate bad habits, thought patterns early on.
hey mate! congrats on the progress you've already made. you may already be doing this, but consuming as much 'good' content is essential. for me, carrotcorner is probably some of the best free content on youtube. if you also want to go down the route of coaching then pete could also be a great option. if you're more keen on seeing how things go off your own back for a while though, i'd recommend taking some small (2-5bi) shots at 50nl. i think the mentality of playing 100k+ hands or waiting to have 100bi for a limit etc is quite limiting and we wanna be frequently but gently pushing ourselves. obviously if money is an issue then do not do that! and lastly by playing newer and better competition it should give you plenty of hands to review and study with a solver or community. I'm starting a discord quite soon and that'll also be a great place to have support! feel free to ask any other questions - happy to help. glgl mate
Your level of thinking about the game is so high level I can barely keep up. Your considerations about blockers is insane. Nice set up with the JJ full house hand, everyone loves a twist in the tale.
It's an absolute privilege being able to watch someone of your calibre play and explain hands for FREE 🙏 Also I would've probably smashed my mouse after the JJ hand vs the whale while yelling expletives about how the game is fucking rigged... Props on taking the beat like a champ and not being a mental game fish like me! 😄
too kind mate! maybe i put it all behind a paywall?! :D lmfao sometimes beats like that are so outrageous that you just can't be annoyed haha. or maybe im just a sucker for the pain
very nice again! your content is very fluid, so would not mind it being longer. sick KK hand, also cool that you share your mental experience. and sick month🔥🔥🔥
Top-quality content as usual. I'm sure it's not easy to show big losing hands, but we appreciate those as well. The JJ hand is truly sickening; it's such an emotional rollercoaster. We need a mid-stake power ranking soon. Good luck in March.
Great stuff dude! We all know the type of player that last opponent was (as per your description of him) and that showdown was just disgusting! Ouch. Keep it up!
I have pnly been playing for a couple months, does your ability to concentrate at a high level get longer over time. I find myself almost autopilot after like 20 or 30 minutes, whereas I slay the first 20 minutes. Also how do you get your buttons to look like that on ignition at JcTh hand?
hey mate, thank you for watching! good question. auto pilot is very common and i think we're all guilty of doing it sometimes. it often comes from boredom, so i would recommend showing compassion to when your brain wants to switch off. for some of us that's 20 mins as you say and for others its a lot longer. you can begin to build your tolerance over time by adding 5-10 mins onto your sessions and testing yourself. another important question you need to ask yourself is whether are you playing C-game? D-game? B-game when autopiloting? remember that your autopilot game can still be profitable but only you know if that's true or not. for me, the best way to mitigate autopilot has been through study. the more i study, the more fired up i am to implement what i have learnt. if i'm more fired up, then i'm less likely to make excuses for lack of concentration. i use intuitive tables for the bet buttons on iggy but jurojin is also another software. glgl
@@BenaBadBeatPoker Thank you for the response. Unfortunately nothing but my A game is profitable currently, so working on that. I am not the usual 1 trillion bb / 100 crusher that you find in the TH-cam comments, just a 25nl slightly winning reg at the moment. Basically I am a fun player, but that doesn't mean I have to suck. Hopefully if I keep at it, I will be able to play higher level games, because they seem way more interesting than 25nl.
Thanks for the vid, mate! The hardest part for watching your videos Bena is that at your stakes ranges are waaaay wider in your though proccess vs what i have in NL100 , flop continues are also wider etc. Will we have specific topics for the channel time by time? Or 100% of highstakes journey?
yoyo mate, thanks for watching! hmm i'm not sure - i think for now it'll likely be just the hs journey. overall my goal isn't to give 'educational' content, but more follow along the journey type content. i do have some ideas for future videos (mental game related) but i don't think i'll be making content for lower stakes. at least not for now. sorry!
Alright mate Great content. I like your channel 👍 That last hand!! Boat vs 2nd boat!!! 😮 It's just so typical. Live or online. When someone plays like crazy, they always have it. You know that, we know that. 😉 But, it's impossible to fold that hand. Soul-destroying outcome 😢 Good luck at the felt 🍀
8:00 In the JT hand, I wonder whether AK would also fall into our shoving range? - Because it could otherwise really be easy to overbluff this spot when our entire value would consist of boats and 86s. 🤔
I think in these positions AK would be a lot too thin to shove given oop needing to call worse (which in this case woulda worked haha). we also have no 86s from MP!
Most interesting hand is JcTh on Kd7c5d board. I played around with it, and it looks like it’s easiest just to play flop b33/x, turn, b133/x just as you did. But OTR you can just jam/x because in my config, AA AK and even some KQ can just jam. If you don’t jam enough of the AK AA, you’re jamming boats and a lot of bluffs mostly, BB can call J7dd profitably if you have all the bluffs but not enough of the “thin-value” hands Your game is worlds above mine and im assuming you knew all this in game, or after review, but figured I’d share and add to comments 😝
yo thanks for the feedback and analysis! yeah i imagine there are a few turn strats that'll yield similar EV. i'm surprised only AI otr would be same ev as 70/AI but i'll take your word for it! ah always share your thoughts/questions - we can both learn something!
Well it’s about 0.8% of the pot difference, but way easier to play the 1 size for me. 2/3 rarely used (4:1 ratio jam:b66) which is pretty wild given the 9 pairing. It might be that his call was because he thinks you can only jam boats and diamonds are give-ups, but if you play the jam strat he loses a WHOPPING $200, but even vs perfect ranges only $150ish after splitting. Because now you can jam a mix of KQ+ OTR and bluff the Qx (bottom of frequent calling range) I have your cb as an always give up OTR or quite rare 2/3 if you split riv. In the future Ill always play this as 1 size for each street because of you lol.
It's actually so sick, seems like every highstakes graph I see is above EV. It's actually sickening to see that this has become the state of poker. If there was no luck involved in this game, it would be so much better. Luck > Skill. Always. 🐫
Can you next time in a video please show the opponents stats? like we see in 1st hand he has 16 VPIP which is very low and of course more of a nitty player but the hand sample would be nice to know. here are my thoughts without seeing showdowns (I paused the video and wrote it, because of course its so easy to post something smart after you saw the hands haha) 1 hand: Would have folded (but I play 50 NL rush now so very few people find those bluffs against a capped x/c turn x R range. 2 hand: I would have went b33 b75 b75 with this combo. like we want him to fold a lot of weak Kx hands by the river (if he is a reg) then he would consider folding K10 by the river maybe. We dont have to invest so much money and represent a wider range of value. Also flop b50 IMO doesn´t really do much. We fold out with b33 bet same range of hands that would have folded vs b33. I would have went b75 or b33. and if I would have overbet the turn, yeah we dont really have other options than to shove and make him fold 7x of dimonds that he would likely to fold but he also has a lot of 9x of dimonds which are basically the nuts. like A9dd Q9dd J9dd 109dd 89dd and 79dd and maybe he also calls 95dd and 94dd because of the dead money from the guy who posted. 3 hand: well, not worthy a long discussion. just a nasty cooler. sucks that it was deepstacked. thats why I always when play rush and cash leave table when I have 150bb+. because yes its profitable to be deep vs. recreational players but those coolers that happen sometimes its just gambling in a sense that we hope to be on a right side of a cooler. I know its maybe not right to do but it keeps my game in the right state, I dont tilt if I loose KK vs AA or QQ vs AK for 100bb, but I do tilt when I get some nit to put in 200bb with KK preflop when I have AA, they decide to run it once and obv. hit 2 outs. After that If I dont just close the tables, take 30 minutes - 1h off and cooldown, I might go bananas and punt off a bunch of more money.
hey mate, thanks for taking the time to write this and not cheating in the game! as for the stats, i don't think this will add more value, especially when i'll be describing the villain in hands. also the gg hud is super unreliable and often less than 100 hands on players, so it feels a bit pointless. h1, can totally see why you'd fold, especially at 50nl. it'll be a mix in theory as it is so not really a spot you wanna take playing weaker opponents (unless big rec) h2. totally happy with your decision to bet 2/3 ott - think this is a good strategy. i like your logic too if we do use the big size h3. yeah leaving the table when deep is a strat many use. the issue on ignition is that if you leave the tbl you have no guarantee you'd be back on that same table so in the incentive isn't there! the fact you know what triggers you and when to take a break is actually a really important skill! many others get steamed, carry on, play worse, and cost themselves so much long term ev. some may argue that quitting your session there and then is costing you EV, but i'm a big believer in a short break and coming back doing wonders for your mental. keep up the good work and good luck!
Very interesting what you said about potential bots in the game with the whale. You happy just playing in that environment when you’ve got the massive rec at the table clearly? Did you have any interesting hands vs the bots?
i'm not happy to play with bots at all tbh and because plenty of them pose as recreationals it becomes even mirkier. the issue is that without iggy i don't have many games to play so im pretty handcuffed. will see how things develop - that's all i can do really!
Oh boy, when facing that kind of rec you have to wonder like how many things needed to align 200+bb rec that plays very loose gets a top 1% hand and then hits a set 1 in 8 chance and you get JJ and hit set.
Thanks for the great videos! Question about the JTo hand I didn't fully understand. You're saying you rather want to bluff without the diamonds because OOP is calling with most Td or Jd. Doesn't that mean you rather want to bluff with the Td/Jd(blocking calls)?

I know its maybe not right to do but it keeps my game in the right state, I dont tilt if I loose KK vs AA or QQ vs AK for 100bb, but I do tilt when I get some nit to put in 200bb with KK preflop when I have AA, they decide to run it once and obv. hit 2 outs. After that If I dont just close the tables, take 30 minutes - 1h off and cooldown, I might go bananas and punt off a bunch of more money.
hey mate, thanks for taking the time to write this and not cheating in the game! as for the stats, i don't think this will add more value, especially when i'll be describing the villain in hands. also the gg hud is super unreliable and often less than 100 hands on players, so it feels a bit pointless.
h1, can totally see why you'd fold, especially at 50nl. it'll be a mix in theory as it is so not really a spot you wanna take playing weaker opponents (unless big rec)
h2. totally happy with your decision to bet 2/3 ott - think this is a good strategy. i like your logic too if we do use the big size
h3. yeah leaving the table when deep is a strat many use. the issue on ignition is that if you leave the tbl you have no guarantee you'd be back on that same table so in the incentive isn't there!
the fact you know what triggers you and when to take a break is actually a really important skill! many others get steamed, carry on, play worse, and cost themselves so much long term ev. some may argue that quitting your session there and then is costing you EV, but i'm a big believer in a short break and coming back doing wonders for your mental. keep up the good work and good luck!
omg last hand 😱
lmfao

thank you!
Awesome stuff! Love the videos
thank you!
JJ is so sick, loving ur content!
thanks mate!
How's the collusion at 2k Iggy?
honestly it's pretty damn awful atm
that JJ would send me back at least a week before playing.
hahaha
Has anyone ever folded anything on river board pair? Nice video!

JJ v KK so sick
haha yeah very brutal!
Yea Bena is top 5 yter
yeeter comfirmed
Oh boy, when facing that kind of rec you have to wonder like how many things needed to align 200+bb rec that plays very loose gets a top 1% hand and then hits a set 1 in 8 chance and you get JJ and hit set.
i think it's fair to say that the stars very much aligned for the rec hahaha
Love the content Bena❤🔥
