Your pool should be famous Julie and so should you for all the hard work you and Luke put into everything and your staff. Great job... again So sorry about Quackers. ❤
I was so glad to hear that your new windows were done locally. That is such a great thing. Not only for the local economy but also it says so much that skills are being kept up. I'm an enthusiastic watcher of The Repair Shop, when I can find it here in the US, and so many of the old skills are leaving with newer generations not wanting to do the kind of work. PS Love the drone shots of the entire estate.
Love The Repair Shop soo much, just am astounded at the level of skills they possess, however I to live in the states and haven’t seen it for quite a while now, miss it,love Julie and all at Mapperton…..RIP Quackers🧡🤍🪽🪽
So sorry Quackers is gone. It was lovely to see the Orangerie and the progress with the windows. The pool is still amazing and watching Julie help with weeding and of course her swim.
I love Claire, the sheep wrangler, they will follow her anywhere, it's so cute. Sincere condolences at the loss of Quackers, it is very sad that there are some irresponsible dog owners out there with no respect for other people, their property or their animals, just a disgrace.
it's so important how you are showing the reality of living in a historic estate and trying to preserve history for the future. the first impression may be you are living in the lap of luxury. the reality is how expensive historically correct repairs are, and how it is never ending. it must be so difficujlt to choose where resources are used. then the unexpected happens and plans change!
I have heard the term, "Freezer Camp" for when the animals "Go to Market." (How many of us who didn't grown up on a farm thought that in the rhyme "This little piggy..." that the piggy went shopping and not "freezer camp"? ) Sigh. City kids. :)
Screw in o rings that are large enough so you can pass a chain through it and drag around. Much easier to manage than transport. Just attach a weight to the end and you can toss it along the side then pull. You can get some lighter weight metal chain.
My wife, Nancy, and I watch all 3 of your channels and really enjoy them. You're always looking to market Mapperton to a wider audience and attract more visitors, right? Have you ever thought about trying to host an episode of Antiques Roadshow? Even though we are in NC we watch the British Antiques Roadshow and they do travel to some great locations for their shows. Try contacting them, you would get a lot of visitors.
If the plants are available in you country, try water hyacinths and yellow water irises to help clear the water of the green algae. They should do well on floating gardens in baskets that allow deep roots (1 foot).
Willowherb covers a wide range of plants. Many are actually useful plants. Firstly, they are good for pollinators, which is a vital issue these days. The one that you were removing, having flowers in the Autumn, enables many pollinators to prepare for Winter. Secondly, many have medicinal uses, they are known to be anti-inflamatory. Many consider them to be weeds, but a weed is only a plant in the wrong place.
Thank you! I'm in upstate NY. I have been trying to identify a nuisence, very invasive vine that appeared out of nowhere a couple of years ago and has been impossible to get rid of. Your strawberry grape vine looks exactly like it. Now that I know what it is maybe I will have better luck getting rid of the damn thing.
Your pool inspired my to transform my in ground pool to a chemical free "cement pond". Using barges of plants to keep the water nice. It has been 3 months and what was once an unused costly resource drain is now a rain feed, aquatic dragonfly nursery! (They eat mosquitoes at all stages, they are very welcome.) Thank you for the inspiration!! 💜
Lovely pool but i wouldnt be brave enough to stand the cold 😅 love the orangery fabulous building Im a patron but only in a small way sadly but as they say every little helps the new windows are indeed very well made ….. as a veggie was very sad about the lambs 😢 but great that are going to breed … thanks for sharing ❤
You should put oranges in your orongerie. they are so colourful. Can't spell in French. I really enjoy your blogs and find them so interesting. Good work, and all your leaks! I had some leaks. All the walls smashed out, wood replaced holding the house together, new pipes, new walls, then new spouting, so I know all about leaks and the damage they do, and the cost. Really upset about your gorgeous duck.
I was thinking that even if they put a circular hollow rod at each end so that you can hook your long pole into it to lead it or push it would make a great help to moving them more easily!
Love the aquatic planter. I do grieve the loss of your duck, I hope if you do get another one, it is similar to your white beauty and gets along with the other two. Your new windows are marvelous! The upkeep on this estate must feel daunting at times.
Enviroswim pool filtration gives you fresh water with no chlorine. i think it purifies the water with lights. TH-camr Mikey Bustos from Ants Canada uses it in his pool in the Philippines. The local birds drink from his pool.
So glad you didn't call into the pool fully clthed. Then I thought yummy watercress soup followed by roast Mapperton lamb. But I'm relieved the lambs have gone to breed.
@@brettanymichellelawson-top5197 Aren't you paying attention? Seriously! Mapperton staff SAW the dog attack Quackers, AND the mother break its neck and throw Quackers into bushes.
Though farming is done for human consumption, I have always dreaded the actual actions that must be performed to do that. If it were up to me, I would turn into a vegetarian overnight! Thank goodness there are other animal breeders who will take those goats for further breeding enhancements rather than the table! Julie must be so relieved!
You could grow some plants that like a bit warmer climate in your orangerie that would pay for the rest of the windows. ;-) One summer would be enough.

Perhaps consider borrowing the Dairy Farmer's Border Collie to herd sheep? Or, get your own Border Collie to herd sheep and protect ducks and chickens? As I recall. most of the grand houses which the American Viscountess has visited, has a dog.
I don't wish to be impertinent but I thought the floating planters were supposed to filtration the pool and keep it clean? I wouldn't swim there; the water looked cleaner and more inviting years ago when you vloged your cold swims before this idea of floating plants.
Dear, sweet Quackers. We at the local humane society keep telling people over and over to keep your dogs on a six foot leash. It is so unfortunate that too many don't listen.
I am so sorry about Quackers, but I was happy to learn that the lambs were being sold for breeding instead of heading to Freezer Camp. We'll done, Julie and Luke.😊
is it safe to swim in the pool? I see a lot of greennish things growing in the water? I am worry because they can cause a rash or something in the skin!!!!?????
Still feeling sad about Quackers. But forgive that lady. She was young, scared, confused, and didn't know what to do. You are so famous that she was scared to come to tell you. Get a new Quackers. I hope Quacker Pond takes off and becomes a reality. I think you are on the European migration flyway, so I'm sure the pond will become a popular stopover, so make sure a lot of it is not too deep so birds and ducks can overnight there with a yummy yucky muddy bottom full of good things to eat.
Julie, no one cares your in a red overall if they see you working on the property. Also, stop worrying about moving rooms due to a tour coming through. People would enjoy seeing you all in the middle of doing things around the home.
John Montagu, the second Duke of Montagu (1690-1749), who became a Knight of the Garter in 1718, deserves remembrance. He was known for his unusual acts of charity, such as funding the Cambridge education of a Jamaican slave named Francis Williams. He helped another black man called Ignatius Sancho (1729?-1780). Ignatius was born on an Atlantic slave ship, his father took his own life, and at aged two he came into the care of three maiden sisters living in Greenwich. They named him Sancho after Don Quixote’s companion, but had no regard for his education. One day, Montagu, who had a house at Blackheath, met Ignatius by chance, invited him home, and went on to lend him books. Ignatius later became an author, had his portrait painted by Thomas Gainsborough, and may have been the only Afro-Britain to have voted in an 18th century parliamentary election.
I was so sorry about Quackers. I made a small donation in her memory. Perhaps something good can come from this sad event.
Thank you so much Sue! We have filmed a Quackers update that will go out next Saturday - so keep your eyes peeled!

In Amsterdam we have a lot of these floating plant islands to improve the waterquality in the canals.
The Orangerie is my favorite building on the estate. I absolutely love the Palladian windows, the plants, etc. What a wonderful place.
yes, that was a great segment
The windows in the orangerie are why every earl should send at least one of his children to carpentry school.
🤣
I love how the aquatic planters developed their own eco system.

Barley bales, lots of them in a pool that size, and something to keep the water moving.
You should have given a shout-out to the company that did your windows for the Orangerie if you so impressed with their work. May Quackers RIP.

This is why I like heated swimming pools. You don't freeze your bum off.

I'm sorry, but you could not pay me enough to swim in that pool.
I think you need more islands to control that algae. Maybe some actual floating plants? Or a fountain? Something to move the water .
I agree. A fountain would be lovely
Agree! and we will be assessing over the winter.
@@MappertonLive you can get fountains that float & use the sun to work!! That is - if you have any sunshine!!🤣

Copper is a knowmetal that eliminates algae. Look it up on other TH-cam channels..
Wow, if that is the case, then screwing on some copper strips around the frames could be the answer!! Besides it would look good as a finish!
