Spilling the beans invokes the notion that a confession is necessary. "Talking tea" means that secrets/gossip is the course of conversation.

To be honest, this was one of the reasons why I started watching your channel because I wanted to see what it was like for a countess behind the scenes, but especially for an American Viscountess. Though I absolutely love the videos of visiting the manor homes, I much prefer what’s happening there at Mapperton behind the-scenes of every day life for a Viscountess. :)

Road situation: I cannot remember what the Mapperton road damage looked like, but my Dad, a USAF aircraft mechanic used to use portable road tracks engineered for use when road conditions were poor. Each panel was about 8ft long and connectable over a longer distance and used with underlying supports made of steel. The ones he somehow acquired had a punched circle pattern for traction. I wonder if a temporary road track of this type would help. I doubt you can go on a website "road tracks 'r us", but this cannot be the only place in the world where they might be quite useful.

I enjoy this channel and you two always having different points of view. I call that married life, lol. Thanks for the info you share, but the laughs also! I wanted to say that our family goes back to the Fleming family, of Scotland, which connects us to King James IV of Scotland. Our Fleming, Malcolm Fleming of Biggar, married Janet (Jeanette) Stuart (Stewart), whose mother was Isabel, mistress of King James IV. Janet of Stewart, Princess of Scotland was 2nd Countess of Wigton, and Governess of Mary, Queen of Scots. Our last Fleming was my grandmother’s grandmother, Mary Eliza Fleming, who married my grandmother’s grandfather, James Harrison Brown. Our families came to the colonies in America in the late 1600’s and the 1700’s. My grandmother was my father’s mom. Love the history of our ancestors. It’s wonderful to come to know them, through the stories, and written history. It’s just beautiful! I love all your videos! ☺️❤️👑

Just would like to say I happened upon your American Viscountess channel (while I’m here for a bit in London) and honestly in the last week or so have been binge watching your videos. As an American, I too love visiting the amazing historical castles and sites here in the UK and other parts of the world. As you know, there’s really nothing like that much in the states so being able to view it personally is such an enormous privilege. I can’t wait til Jan when my fiancé and I are married and get to finally move here permanently. It’s been a long time coming. Would love to eventually be able to see Mapperton and some of the other castles, houses, etc you have shown on your channel. Good luck with your dissertation, I’m sure it will be splendid.

And spilling the beans is def. American. And how about changing your business model to have many more workshops for which participants pay to help you repair and maintain your infrastructure and in so doing, learn and earn certificates in traditional arts and crafts of all sorts. Of course your local craftsmen would need to support your efforts in doing this. You could also allow participants to set up their tents in one of your designated rewilding areas and your restaurant could provide them with basic meals, perhaps including a box lunch with an interesting and nutritious sandwich. Again, because participants would be getting a basic certification in whatever project work they will be doing, those who can pay, should do so and those who cannot should be given scholarships. At the outset, you would need to determine how many scholarships you can give in exchange for work you need to have done on the estate. Another idea is to join with one or more British engineering and architectural schools to provide internship opportunities for their students in civil engineering and agricultural engineering and maybe even forestry to design and build or repair in connection with your infrastructure and architectural projects. As part of their projects, they would need to submit to you and their schools proposals for the work they will be doing and then document in writing and with video how the work has actually been done. If you were to implement a program such as this, you could establish a considerable momentum for everyone’s efforts along with establishing a permanent cadre of Mapperton fans who can be encouraged to come either for paying visits of various kinds but even more workshops.

Many of the projects taught us multiple types of stitches, with the designs creating a beautiful work of art. I think Mapperton could be a destination for people to take workshops and courses on skills needed to work with historic (and non-historic) homes including needlework, making a thatch roof, chlorine-free pools, etc. You guys have a LOT of contacts now and could organize having the people come to Mapperton including the experts to instruct them. Might occupy your buildings during the winter/off-season? You could talk about book repairs, all sorts of things. And offer yoga as a stress-release (: I am picturing tradespeople who want to learn skills to expand their businesses but mainly people who want to work on their own homes or perhaps decorate them in a historic theme or do this as hobby .... The wilding stuff would also fit this theme. Maybe even advertise with city parks and national parks and farmers etc. Talk about the pigs and horses you have brought in (and cows) and why it is important to maintain these breeds and break the stereotype of wild pigs being "destructive"... You could even offer the odd workshop on how to coordinate hobbyists to work in a team on projects for other historic houses, with mini-internships or at least a field trip to get some ideas and networking done to learn what the owners need help with. And a workshop for developers who want to learn more about opportunities for them to get involved...
Mapperton could provide a "centre of excellence" -- one place to learn lots of different skills, pulling it all together in one spot. I noticed in your channel about visiting other historic homes that there is a lot going in in this community, but it is all pretty hodgepodge. UK could use a "hub" where people can see the big picture.
Starting small is a very good way to go -- e.g., try a couple of workshops and one week-long course to begin. See which skills or tasks are most popular and offer them on a regular basis. More esoteric stuff might be coordinated with other historic homes and listed properties and offered to professionals and more serious hobbyists.... Basically, this is a direction you have already been going, just pull it together with a bigger vision.
You wouldn't have to compete with other historic houses offering talks by experts or similar things. I like the good connections you have with the other houses and it would be helpful to get them involved -- from advertising your program/calendar to providing places where people could work on projects that benefit their houses or come on a field trip .. You could also advertise their workshops etc. Mapperton has an unique advantage in terms of your large u-tube community in multiple countries (large population that others would probably like to connect with) and could serve as an entry point to learning a variety of skills (aka "return customers") while also getting the "big picture" of opportunities available around the UK. I did not know until I watched several of your visits to other house how many there are all over the UK. I think a lot of people outside the UK would see the existence of one location as a great way to get an introduction to all that is available and to develop contacts and skills they can bring home to their own countries.
Who wouldn't like to have a pool with floating gardens in it that doesn't need to have a bunch of chemicals dumped in regularly?
Or maybe learn a couple of historic dances and end the course with an actual ball in costumes in an actual ballroom? orr harvest dance or maypole dance? You could attract amateur photographers and painters to come for 2 or 3 days to stay with multiple people with similar interests with maybe a guide or tour at beginning to lead them to interesting scenes on your grounds... I know someone who went to Havana Cuba with a professional cityscape photographer to take pictures and get critiqued at end of each day. She loved it.
I do like the "wild camping" and "glamping" stuff and how people need and want to be closer to nature. It is bit funny for me as a Canadian to talk about "wild swimming" or "wild camping". To me, just looks like swimming and camping (: But I can see in UK there is not very much natural areas accessible to people. Anyway, I think this will attract a different set of people, from families with children to artists wanting to paint or be inspired by your wonderful countryside and the views.
Hope these ideas might spark something for you, as you did ask for input about where Mapperton should go in the future.

Good Morning Julie, Matthew and Chris - Great update, doing well despite challenges - great to see sense of humour in tact.
Apologies if you have already done something like this but would it be practical to host Summer/Spring movies at Mapperton (run your own film festival) - have little food stalls before hand - coincide with school holidays etc. Also, kids/schools could create a film (on iPhone that could be part of a school's program in months prior - short list entrantto be screened on the big night) Different topic every year to keep it interesting Go all out an set up glamping tents for a sleep over. So many ideas, so little time. All hand on deck!

Enjoy and look forward to each "update" of Mapperton. Wondered if we can purchase the needlepoint "kit" that will be used at the course at Mapperton? Also sorry to hear about Quackers in the news. Praying you all will be comforted and that the person involved will come forward to apologize and buy a new duck or give a contribution to Mapperton.

Be a good idea to do Tradition craft workshops ( e.g. Lacework, book binding or even stone masonry) maybe through out the spring and summer seasons . October probably a good idea to close , so you can do planning and clear up and prep. work for the coming Christmas fair season and the following year. one thought was even do a summer antiques & collectible fayre for summer. Also looking via google maps , is there another possible route to your clamping grounds via hook park and the iron age fort area.

You need to have a fall farm fair. They are quite popular here in Quebec. Apple picking, country bands and harvest products , etc.

For the road closure in 2 weeks, you might try telling whoever is closing the road that doing so compromises the ability of emergency services vehicles - fire, police, ambulance - to get to Mapperton. Hopefully you won't need any of those, but if you do, and the road is closed, it might be a life-threatening disaster.

I love hearing about Mapperton's woes, mostly because I also live in a house in need of much repair. I've had my own experience with a frozen pipe or two, it's nice to know I'm not alone. I'd be very interested in finding that book Mapperton Moments. Please put in the link.

Great episode of “spilling the tea“ 🫖 i’m glad you acknowledged Chris’s debut on Patreon channel and that people enjoyed it very much. Chris is definitely an integral part of the Mapperton family. Also, I can’t even begin to imagine all of the issues you have to deal with managing such a large and historical estate. You certainly have every right to moan Luke and Julie but just know we are behind you 100 🤩 Thanks for sharing this journey with us’
