YOU SHOULD make more of these videos! Imitating the viewer comments was really funny. Thanks.

YOU SHOULD.... keep doing this channel the way you're doing it! Your work has a quality and creativity that I find inspiring, and I enjoy your on-camera personality immensely. As for the negative comments, there is no shortage of A-holes in this world. Treat the channel like you treat your woodworking; that is, make for you, make it to your standards and no one else's, and people will find and appreciate what you do. Those are your target consumers. Be well!

Watched this video and found myself hoping it will reach all the basement dwellers that haunt all of social media, Then I subscribed!
I haven't watched other videos of yours yet, but I like what I see around you, I like what you have said and your voice is easy to listen to.
Best of luck and in all those parts that require skill.

I discovered your videos earlier this week. This is the best channel I've stumbled upon in some time. I easpecially appreciate your furniture design videos, and furniture design reference materials you've recommended. This furniture design information has been difficult to find as a newer woodworker. Keep it up!

What your doing is not only informative and interesting but it’s also an Honest undertaking. Sadly, in my 71 years, I have observed that many if not most endeavors that yield very high profits or incomes involve verifiable and unrepentant dishonesty and greed. It’s a Fact Of Life. By the way, It does not seem that Paul Sellers, Chris Schwartz, the featured presenters of Fine woodworking Magazine or a great many other top shelf woodworkers are wealthy. Any athlete or celebrity of equal Renown would be filthy rich. Life is unfair to many with respect to monetary gain. You are no less valuable or worthy however my friend. Hang in there. Many wealthy people are miserable and lonely.

I watched a video recently that started with a quote from the book, Anna Karenina, "Happy families are all alike; all unhappy families are unhappy in their own way". In a way it explains our natural propensity to complain and object in unique ways. And anonymous TH-cam comments makes criticising easier (I know I'm guilty). Blocking unwanted negativity is a reasonable response, especially for an introvert putting yourself out there. Just know I've watched all of your videos and enjoyed them!

I appreciate your channel more than any other at this point. 1) you’re up-front about why you’re doing it; 2) you’re relatable but aspirational (for me at least, but I imagine it’s so for many of us apprenticing via TH-cam); 3) your work speaks for itself, and you don’t oversell it. Lots of folks out there acting like their sharpening (etc) is profound and ground-breaking.
Keep it up, and YOU SHOULD let us know how we can support you

I appreciate that you make videos. I filmed one on iPhone. What a pain! Everything took 3 times as long to get done. Film angles became more important that if it made it harder for me to do. Then, I looked into video editing. Oh hell no! Way too much work. I will stick to Instagram and blogging. Minimal impact on the woodworking and not too much time. Because of this, I appreciate that you do it.

  • @mikel5582

What most "you should" comments are really saying: "I watched your video and mostly liked it. I also like you and hope your channel succeeds. With a bazillion established woodworking channels out there, here's what I think would help your channel keep and gain viewers."
Oftentimes people, especially woodworkers, aren't great with social interactions and their "you should" is really a clumsy compliment. You should take it as such. 😉
p.s. Glad you fixed the audio level.

I like your videos and commentary just the way they are. Being a woodworking introvert, I can relate. Just walked out of a birthday dinner reservation for my wife because the restaurant was too crowded with loud people. I hope you continue to make videos. I am learning a lot from them and find them educational and enjoyable. Thank you.

Do not worry about using trends. We understand there are many reasons to do it. Gaining some momentous momentum with subs by hitting some well traveled topics is going to allow you to continue doing videos you want to do. If your audience is larger you reach more people with your unique content. I think Lincoln Street Woodworks is a great example of grabbing the tail of TH-cam. You don’t have to go all in but definitely worth some thought for videos that can gain traction.

I watch A TON of TH-cam woodworking and can honestly tell you that you are filling a void with this channel. It's unique and very well done (even with respect to sellers and Cosman). Just be patient and the subscribers will come....or set up a collaboration with someone that has a grip of viewers if you don't want to wait. I've seen this done numerous times with huge success. I've been watching your work and videos and I think you've done a very nice job. I do videography and editing and I don't think anyone who's not tried it has a clue how involved it is and how much work and time is devoted to a video. The inter web is full of folks who seem to have a life's mission of being trolls. I don't know the answer for that but, please don't let them get you too down. None of us say we don't feel the sting of such comments and they really are out of our control. You do a nice job and your work speaks for itself. Thanks for all the effort and time you put into is avocation.

I think you should keep doing you. I think every video you have made, or at least that I have seen, has inspired me to level up my work. oh? this part here that nobody will ever see? its lined with leather, just for added protection. I mean honestly?! personally I live my life by two simple principals, 1 I will figure out whatever I need to, based on a life time of figuring things out, and 2, get all the input you can, I couldn't care less where a good idea comes from. so you do you, small people like to make themselves taller by standing on the shoulders of others. That said if Rob Cosman or Paul Sellers suggest something, it has been my experience that it is wise to listen. then you adapt it so that it works for you.

but only a few people can appreciate the value of a piece of art , that's the down side. also i see on other channels the fine the gob the leaser support, not fair for the artisans, time will tell history will continue.

I have learned a couple of things in 70 years: 1. People are difficult. 2. There is always more than one way to do most everything.
I watch your channel because I like your design direction. I find your delivery personable. I also subscribe to Paul Sellers, and am constantly amazed by complaints on his channel - "You're not making videos long enough." "You are using a bandsaw?! I thought this was hand-tool only!" So, even St.Paul the Patient gets razzed. See observation #1 above.
Thanks for your mindful, lightly humorous content. I don't personally think you should do anything different. Uh-oh, I used the S word.
