  • Welcome back to Episode 8 of the Old School VS New School Analysis series. This week we're going way back to the early 2000's where Mike Matusow and I both butcher a hand while we're hooked up to heart rate monitors. You've been asking for a hand I play poorly and here's a good one.

    If you take into account the heart attack equity you had against Mike, I think we can say that it was a fine play.

    I read Mike’s book, “Check Raising the Devil” and he talks about how in the early 2000s he did meth and molly a lot, that probably contributed to the heart rate 😂

    • @lucaspalazzi7663
      @lucaspalazzi7663 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      9-7 can make straights and flushes, so he is always openning this hand late position... Its strong on the flop because its top pair and its very hard for someone have two pair or better on this flop, because that would be trips or 9-2,9-4,2-4, no one plays with that, so top pair is strong alone

      Funny comment, but the more likely explanation is that Daniel (and many pros) have just trained themselves to approach the game rationally and not get emotional/stressed, which can interfere with your thought process/decision making. It definitely helps if you're playing stakes you can afford too.

    If someone is getting blinded out because they left the table. This eventually caused the blinded out player to go all-in.
    Does those cards get folded since player is away from the table or since the player is all-in they must be tabled and potential win.

      Old school analysis is about comparing hands compare to your predicted opponents hands strength. New school analysis is about calculating the probabilities that you get a good hand compared to what you believe your opponent might have based of their betting patterns. The problem with old school is that old school takes a lot of risk in anticipation that your opponent does not have a nut hand. The problem with new school is that new school tends over-call too often that it makes you play like a maniac. Daniel has to balance his play if he is going to beat phil.

      That won't bother you if you trade with a professional like Mr Robert Carl.

    Who knew old school was all about talking about drugs, being unprofessional, and condescending. I thought that was you now-a-days, at least the " I'm a liberal. I'm smarter than everyone even though I have zero clue about anything buy poker". Who knew?

    What else is new? No, but seriously mate, seeing you play deep stack NLH on High Stakes Poker just showed how fundamentally bad you were. You ran hot early and was able to fade variance and had an interesting personality that you were able to parlay into corporate money. Grats mate, you won at life! Remember when you played BMWCoupe, who was nothing more than a decent 2Knl reg and he ripped you apart? First couple hundred hands you ran well and beat him, talked shit and then he ended up taking your lunch money. Guy was like the 25th best player in Québec and he crushed you. ayou can never complain about bad luck ever. You feisted on fish while it was easy money while being good while poker players were drunkards and degenarates. Once smart money started moving in it was over. You play goofy and passive and relied on making hands. And you made those hands in crucial spots. ayou were awful in marginal situations, leaking heaps of money. But trust me, you win at life, so it’s all good. Who cares if you’ve been bad and running well for 15 years 😉
