- More is NOT better. Often it's the peeling away, decluttering our life that allows us to simplify our life and pursue more intentional living. Peeling away these "normal" things revealed more joy, contentment, and peace. It also helped me to feel less overwhelmed as a mom.

If you're new here, hi! I'm Jess, a former over-achieving restless soul that is passionate about helping women cultivate contentment exactly where they are, especially amidst motherhood. I post about slow living, minimalism, my faith, and holistic women's health. If you're into that, join me and a tribe of women looking to reject restlessness and step into joyful fullness by subscribing and joining the community. I'm glad you're here:)
Are any of these resonating with you more than others?
Yes, the complaining part. In my country we have a culture of doing that on a daily basis. I really needed to be intentional to not complain and start being more grateful.
Honestly: every single one except of the mindless tv and shopping as a hobby. But I’m working on that. It’s a process, right? Love your videos! ❤
@@kivzzzz you live also in switzerland?:P
#1 - YES! Keeping abreast of current events and politics in my county ( the U.S.) has been making me distressed and depressed. I am learning to dial it back. I am trying to remain broadly informed, but not marinating in it every day.
The not complaining and the one about genuinely asking for help. I am really struggling with both of these at the moment, the discontent is real 😢
I’m 23 and absolutely everything you listed here is so helpful to hear. I’m at a point where it really feels like so many things are in chaos. I overwhelm myself with a billion thoughts all day long. I just want things to simplify.
Not sure how old you are but what you are sharing is very wise. I was married at 19 and had my first baby at 20 and had a total of 4 by the time I was 28. We lived a very simple life with no TV, internet or smart phones from the very beginning of our marriage, very simple sweet times😊. When My husband and I turned 30 is when we got internet for the first time and we just got out first smart phones at 32 about 8 months ago. The reasoning why is my husband started his own construction business and he works from out of our home. I will say since bringing these technologies into our home it has only brought busyness and an uneasy feeling. I miss the simpler times, granted my children are getting older as well which brings more busyness then when they were littler. Finding balance in life is a struggle at times but nothing is ever born without travailing so it takes making these mistakes in life to want better for ourselves and the next generation. Wonderful video! Thank you.
I started watching your videos today while cleaning, l ended up deactivating my Tik Tok, Instagram, & Facebook. I feel like I spend so much time on social media and I end up not feeling good about myself.
i think youre in the majority with how you feel! I hope this is a positive change for you!
Idk how I found your channel but Im a 30 year old man, but I love this slow and minimalist lifestyle and it gives me hope I can fix my burnout and overstimulation
You got this 🫶
I feel seen when you talk about saying that my children are blessing yet my everyday words mismatch that! I had a 'surprise' twin babies 2 years ago..while my oldest is in college and my second a teenager. I know my babies are a blessing yet I complained about how tired and how overwhelmed I was every single day! 😢😢 thank you for the reminder ❤
I need this reminder just as much!
Twin mom here. It gets easier!! Mine are 24 now…gulp. I would give anything to go back for just a few minutes! But it was tough! Sure wish I had heard her message years ago! Glad you were able to hear it early!
Literally had me in tears
Not twins, but a tornado of a kiddo that blind sided us! We have a kiddo in college and a teenager as well. In one breath I wanna cry in my overwhelm from having to keep up, but also overwhelmed of God’s goodness with the blessing. It’s hard.
I'd be interested to hear more about your non-toxic simplified skincare/body care routine and products.
noted! I'm gonna make a video on it
@@jessicarothleyYes, please do Jessica! And, you said under $5, that is super affordable for most of us here! ❤
Me too! I have pcos and struggle with very painful acne
I’ve also stopped keeping up with news. I’ve done this for probably 10 years and while I’m not the person you go to talk through the breaking news that happened last night, I am now the more calm and compassionate person that can be there for you when you need me. Ingesting the news was causing me so much anguish that one day I stopped and thought about how life was when I was growing up (pre social media) and then thought about about times hundreds of years ago. Most news doesn’t need an instant analysis. Now I’m also considering eliminating social media because the people who need all my “instant” news are already on my call list.
yes to so much of this!
I also stopped watching the news but after my son passed of SIDS 17 years ago. I found the news to be so depressing and I don’t miss it one bit. Now to work on the rest 😊
So sorry for your loss 💗. Sweet memories of him. \ I stopped watching news but lately was drawn back in. Will stop as of today...no presidential debate or recaps. Just turn off the TV!! Music only 🎵🥰✌️. California🌴🌼💚@@roxykalei808
I have just found your channel and I must say - THANK YOU! I am loving your advice, it really resonates with me. I'm an autistic mama of 3 (9, 4 and 1) and I'm into minimalism, natural health and trying to simplify our lives so that I'm not in a constant state of overwhelm and burnout!
I am so happy I found your channel. The past couple videos I have watched of yours has been exactly what I needed in this season of life! Thank you for doing this.
Thank you for this glorious series of affirming new consciousness shifts! The ”choices” you mention are so uplifting to my spirit. This shift is so helpful for me-at almost 78, I’m finally letting go of so many of these old bad habits and my persistent tendency to equate productivity with self-worth. More joy! More peace! More play,
yes yes and yes!
I'm 32 years old and the last few years Ive done the 10 item wardrobe. I stopped getting close up to the mirror and picking on myself. ❤❤😂❤ hi I'm new to your channel.
hello! welcome!
I just love your videos! I have 10 months old daughter & I’m going through all the things you’re talking these days. I’m soo happy to came across to your channel!❤️ lots of love from Sweden 🇸🇪
This is really good information. I’m 76, and I learned new ways to think.
Boundaries are the structure in which we can thrive. Thank you for that!!❤
I just finished and actually took a screenshot of your time stamps. Thanks for doing that. You have a gift for TH-cam with your delivery and content. I saw you only started a couple of years ago and I think you will really grow this channel if that's what you're looking to do.
This topic will resonate with ,many people and all ages😊 your family is beautiful and it's such a blessing you've realized these things early on. I sure wish I'd have seen this when mine were little. It would've helped tremendously. They're now 18&22😅.
I hope you'll continue to post.
❤ Lisa
this was so incredibly kind to read, thank you!
You are so wise! Just came across your page with the healing nervous system video and I’m soooo relating to all of this. Thank you for sharing ❤️🙏🏼🕊️
I really enjoyed this video. You are well spoken, to the point, and very knowledgeable. As a young woman I believe your channel is a great start for me as I want to be a mommy in the future, but I definitely fall in the category of women who don’t know/understand how important it is to nourish ourselves. In a way you feel like a big sis we all want hehe. Thanks for this ❤
I just found this channel, I loved all 15 items on the list! I can’t wait for the video specifically on not watching tv to come out, that’s a big one for me.
Talk about right video at the right time! Thank you ❤
Oh man. I have been following your journey since your Wholy Healed days! Being easily offended/taking things personally is something I need to work on so much. I definitely need to check out that book.
it was a big one for me for the longest time!
These are such essential points! I hope more people find this video ❤
Limitations as the structure within which I can thrive - I’ve never heard it put like that before and I think it might be life changing. Thank you for that new perspective!
I'm so glad it spoke to you!
This is great! You seem so happy and at peace ❤
Wow. I can't thank you enough for making this video. Your video definitely provided some light to daily struggles I've had, but never been able to put into words. I felt stuck in my ways and ashamed of how I've treated those improtant to me. Hearing you admit you also had those struggles, but have been able to work towards change has provided so much peace/ relief for me. Thank you ❤
so glad it spoke to and encouraged you
Pretty much all these points resonated with me so much. I've been actively working on some of them but some are so deeply engrained and hard to break, or we dont even realize were doing them. In almost everything less is more and we are so conditioned that more is more and we keep pushing and doing and most of the time its only making it worse. Ive suffered from hormonal issues and terrible gut issues for years and only now getting more info about nervous system regulation and how even with great idea/lifestyle/supplements etc we are too stressed for it to help us.
would love to hear more about your skin journey and routine as well as improving perfectionism:)
I totally agree with this. And noted, I got a lot of requests to share more about my skin journey so I'll work on that:)
Every SINGLE one resonates! Tysm for making this video!
my pleasure!
I watched a video of yours yesterday and immediately subscribed. This one hit home when you talked about productivity. The house that I grew up in valued being productive and getting done as much as you could so much, it became a major part of my identity. Often when I have a lot to do now, I don’t set a ten-minute timer. I put on some relaxing music or nothing and I take my time with it and enjoy the process! Thanks so much for this video! You’re making yourself vulnerable, and it’s going to help many❤️
I love this!
The amount I needed this video ❤
Just found your channel and although I’m not a mother yet (I hope to be one day!) so much of this resonated with me. You’re so well spoken and relatable! Appreciate this video and so excited to see more from you. Sending love and light! 💗
thank you thank you!
Thanks for this! I am always trying to do more and be a better more perfect human and it’s so stressful and I know it needs to stop. I just wish I could believe it. Us moms don’t have to be everything all at once. I’m so hard on myself and need to be content with the small things!
you are so beautiful , and are spreading such an integrated message ! I appreciate your content and your will to share your journey of love and nourishment! thank you so much for the tips! ❤
Thank you so much!!
Great wisdom Jessica!
Oh the universe knew I needed this 😭
would love for you to do a video on how to not be obsessed with productivity and not feel guilty when resting. loved this video, almost all the points you mentioned I need to quit because I know it will help me💓 thank youuu
that is a great idea, I will make note of that!
First video. Great list and great presentation. Going to check out the rest of your channel. From a 57 year old non-mother 😊
Thanks, very helpful!
Needed. Thank you 😊
Great video. So far 5 is one I need to heed. ❤
Insightful, thank you.
Awesome video with great ideas!
wow. 14 + 15 . very powerful stuff. profound. im so grateful, thank you.
What a great video! I love your deep thinking 😊
Thank you so much!
❤ I can relate so much I feel I have been making a few of these changes too
I love the part where you said "we equate productivity with self worth". And since you referenced so many great authors I have a recommendation for you - The Burnout Society by Byung-Chul Han.
I like making My own ready made meals when there's time for the times I don't have time to Cook
New follower.....not a mum but a lot of this has resonated with me....THANK YOU. Currently binge watching your other vids 🙏🏻 (from the uk, scuse my spelling of mom!) 🇬🇧
Welcome!!
⭐️ great video
Thank you. You're good. As soon as you mentioned the book, I kept your video playing as I flipped over to Amazon and put "Un-offendable" in my cart.
I hope you enjoy it!
You described me completely. Every single sentence I could relate to. I wish I could have you as a friend :D
Loved this! Can you make a video in how we cannot have it all? I would like to know more about that ❤
Wonderful, authentic video. It would be lovely if you could make a video about minimalistic skincare and skin healing ❤
Thank you
this was so great
number 15 is so me, but I'm working on it!!!!
Great points to think on. I'm continuing to work on my wardrobe and find myself getting rid of pieces that I used to wear and love but maybe now I feel they're a bit too revealing/short/etc. Interesting how our preferences change over time. I'm trying to find more midi/longer dresses. I really like the pattern of yours. Can you share where it's from?
Literally RIGHT before you mentioned you used to have acne, I was thinking, Wow, her skin is so nice 😊
Also, "Unoffendable" is such a great book! Highly recommend!
it really is such a good book!
Waiting on your simply beauty routine video with products ! ❤
this week:)
You quoted John Mark Comer. Immediate follow ❤
I relate to so many of these items, some I’ve quit, and some I need to quit. My biggest struggle is perfectionism.
"Progress is better than perfection". I've read it somewhere, then wrote it down a few years ago. It moved the needle on perfectionism for me. Keeping it in mind allowed me to take action fast and realize that most of the time if 80% of the task is completed, it's ready and I can leave it at that.
It has also somehow helped me tolerate disorganized environment better. I still prefer it to be organised and almost sterile but I've accepted that choas is an inevitable state and I don't want to spend my life obsessing over order instead of experiencing more of life. Yes, being neat, organised and finishing tasks still comes naturally and it shows. However, I feel way more at ease.
Maybe this little story could help you or someone else find your own way out of the mental cage that is perfectionism.
#11 productivity 🙌👏🎯
I’d love to hear more about your shift to stop complaining. As moms we do that bonding and I know it’s a bad habit but conversation seems dull or isn’t funny when I’m trying to mind my words
I only use Selfies for Identification Purposes
can you 🙏🙏🙏🙏 say more about having/being it all?
❤
So many great things to quit that I can relate to. Your videos always have such helpful tips and advice. Decluttering and living a simpler life has made such a huge difference to my physical and mental health.

theyve done the same for me!
I gave My TV away and I don't miss it. My TV is TH-cam
I'm soglad I found you ❤❤
Could you please share about what you use for skin barrier problems? I've had horrible cystic back acne for years and I think it's a skin barrier problem from extremely hot showers, would love some help ❤
video comes out tomorrow:)
@@jessicarothley thanks so much!!!
Regarding the wardrobe change mentioned - do you mean going minimal or something else? Thanks
yes! I went down to a ten item wardrobe, i made a video on it:)
I have learnt a lot about my unconscious habits from seeing them copied by my toddlers!!! Very sobering.
isnt it?!
it is funny to watch her say the 11th thing . because i do all the things she's listed, i build stuff myself, i knit, i bake, i cook, and i spend aloot of time in nature....but that can also be a biiiig trigger and not a simplifying Life, because it overwhelms me too 8 please excuse my english, i'm from switzerland)
i think the most important thing to do to simplify your life is to not be OVER productiv.
I can totally see that!
In short, live like your ancestors lived.
I just found your channel and your thoughts and ideas are great but sometimes you talk so fast that it's hard to understand what you are telling us. And we want to understand what you are saying!
haha oh man im convicted about this because one of the things I've been working on from my obsessive hurry days is how fast I talk haha. It's a hard habit to break! I am working on it!
I'm trying to understand. Have you continued to quit social media? If so why are you still making videos and putting them on social media?
Most people don't consider TH-cam as social media, since it is a tool for learning as opposed to social media being a place to showcase fake lives.
Great video. So far 5 is one I need to heed. ❤
that's a big one!
