  • This was a quick & easy way to speed up your Ender 5 S1 or other printer with Klipper. I have also designed a nice mount for this setup to be everything nice and clean.

    I got one of these Sonicpads for Christmas and it has been amazing. not having to constantly swap the micro sd alone was half the value for me. but the speed boost out of the box was really cool and I frequently boost the print speed to 200% with no issues on my ender 3 v2.

    I'm a bit late to this video, but figured it's worth mentioning here that as of January 2024, the E5S1 can be had for as low as 299 at Microcenter as of this comment, and the SonicPad for ~130. With an afternoon of tuning, i've found the built in profile has accelerations at 5k, but my specimen can handle upwards of 8k with no degradation in quality. (As to quality, Bambu firmware has also improved over the past 10 months too, so the tradeoffs get muddier).
    If you want a turn-key printer, it's Bambu. If you enjoy the tinkering and tuning, that's Ender's bread and butter. Both are good buys if they fit your needs/budget.
    I have the E5S1 sitting beside my X1C. Both are in constant use, and both are churning out quality prints.

    @madderall_dot_com ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Feels like a missed opportunity to truly test the limits of these machines. Who cares about a 15 minute calibration cube when my stock bed-slinging cr10 Smart Pro does it with Marlin? The whole point of Klipper is that you can let any machine loose without much loss of quality, yet you've managed to run the 5 s1 at slower speeds than it can achieve out of the box.

    • @randymay
      @randymay  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Understandable criticism. Honestly I just don't have weeks to spend doing trial and error on something for one video. For the most part I show a lot of what the out of the box experience is like and if it does anything without doing tons of tuning. And just adding the Sonic pad to this printer did speed it up quite a bit.
      I do like 3D printing and I use it as a tool but I don't really care to get into the super fine details of tuning something to its maximum potential. I mostly just use the printers to make designs that I have created for prototyping or for production. 😅👍

    • @madderall_dot_com
      @madderall_dot_com ปีที่แล้ว

      @@randymay Different strokes for different folks. Nothing wrong with that. I guess seeing " Ender 5 S1 is MUCH FASTER with a Sonic Pad" in the title is what created a certain set of expectations and I felt disappointed that they weren't met. Otherwise good video, good sound, camera work and lighting.
      P.S
      For someone designing/prototyping the speed may matter even more than for someone making production-ready prints, since there can be dozens of small changes before something is ready for production and you just don't have all day to wait on the new iteration to finish printing.

  • @nachtdiertje1972
    @nachtdiertje1972 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I'm having a Ender 3 V2 with a sonic pad and since this week, a P1P.
    Honestly said, the P1P takes the cake.
    I've been a creality-fan for a long time, but BambuLabs has taken over.
    The Ender does a very good job, no doubt about it, but the P1P does a better job in a much shorter amount of time.
    The Sonic Pad is a great addition to the Ender and speeds it up and improves the printquality, but again, the P1P wins again.

    • @randymay
      @randymay  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh definitely It does speed up the printers but it can't speed them up to the speeds of the P1P.
      I can see using the Sonic pad on existing hardware to speed it up a bit and get some more life out of it before having to upgrade.
      And with all the companies now racing to compete with bambu lab. I foresee seeing a lot more printers coming out very soon with specs similar to the P1P and X1 carbon.

    • @nachtdiertje1972
      @nachtdiertje1972 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I doubt if there will be similar printers soon, like the P1P/X1.
      What I think is a very big plus for the Sonic Pad, is that it can manage multiple printers (also non-creality) from 1 screen, to a limit of 4.
      To my opinion, that's a big advantage, looking to other systems.
      So in theory, you can "enhance" 4 printers and control them too.

    • @randymay
      @randymay  ปีที่แล้ว

      @AnotherCG umm ok, you can say that about just about any 3d printer company that hasn't made faster printers yet....

      @@itzmemaariocleantaps8201 Start with a cheap bedslinger and learn to tinker with it. That way you save some money if you damage something and trust me, you will. After a couple of month/year, start thinking about a new one like the K1, newest prusa or bambu labs. This last one is also rather idiotproof for beginners in my experience.

      @randymay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I was going to do that later on but the profiles built into Masonic pad already have some sort of input shaping already done. After moving it on to the ground it looks like it took care of a lot of those ringing problems. Seeing that the table I was printing on is not very sturdy. 😁

    • @randymay

      So you can reflash the printer with the original firmware to get it working as normal. You will have to find this firmware on the Creality website

    • @MrBlappy
      @MrBlappy ปีที่แล้ว

      All you have to do is save the Merlin firmware on a SD card put it into the machine (with the correct configuration from Creality) then turn on said machine. It will install the new firmware and will be back up and running. I had to do this a few time with my Ender 3 Neo (Non V2) because creality still hasn't created a profile for that machine yet. it took me about 3 weeks to find the right klipper language to talk with the Neo. It is now running and will be getting my S1 Plus is about a week to run them both on klipper and the sonic pad.

      @@randymay you bet. Have you tested out smaller nozzles and smaller extrusion widths with it yet? I'm wondering how it is with detail at slower speeds and say a 0.2 nozzle. I ordered a set of 5 different size nozzles from Micro Swiss as well.

    • @randymay
      @randymay  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't messed with any smaller nozzles on this printer and 0.4 is really as small as I will go on a FDM printer. To me it's just not worth the extra time to bet smaller layers. If anything I go up in size to 0.6 or even 0.8 so print larger things faster.
      If you are looking for small part printing with fine details you might want to look into resin printing. Resin printing can also be my h faster and you can print at 0.05 layers

    • @scotty2salty327
      @scotty2salty327 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@randymay I've been collaborating with my vinyl ghapics company and doing business cards. QR codes and logos. Currently I use my FF Adventurer 3 and a 0.3 nozzle and get pretty good results. It's more horizontal detail not vertical so I keep layers at 0.2mm but extrusion width currently at 0.18mm. I get very good results and can turn out a card in about 1.5 hrs. I may look into resin at some point but for now I'm going to test the limits of the ED5S1. I'll let you know how that goes too.

    • @randymay
      @randymay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh ok that makes more sense. I see a lot of people getting printers like this wanting to make highly detailed miniatures and to me it just doesn't make sense to do when resin is much faster, cleaner and easier. But what you are doing makes total sense.

      Yeah that is definitely an option. At the same time the bambu lab P1P pretty much just worked right out of the box and set up only took about 15 to 20 minutes. So it's all really going to depend on what printer you want.

    Why is your machine shaking with the sonic pad?

    • @randymay
      @randymay  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's on a table that's on wheels that is not stable whatsoever so any movement is going to move those around. Also just because it has the input shaping doesn't mean that it doesn't put vibrations through the machine.

    Question for anyone out there with an Ender 5 S1 and Sonic pad.
    Does using the sonic pad mean I definitely will not use the Ender´s screen anymore?

    • @randymay
      @randymay  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah the screen no longer works at all after the install. You will have to reflash it back to stock firmware to get the screen to working again.
