Thank you for the great service and efforts you put into this. It's very comprehensive, I just got started with mine. I sure feel like an amateur and compared to your skill set and knowledge. 💪🇺🇸😎
@@TheTechnologyManI ordered one of these with the impression that I could view the camera and start/stop prints while away from home. You stated that it is not capable of working off the network without doing some extra work. How would I go about doing that?
I've been looking to upgrade my setup rather than deal with the inherent design flaws in the Anycubic Kobra. Your videos have been key. They're extremely well put together and not only helped me decide but will be helpful during setup. Thanks
Thank you for this introductory video. To date, it's the most comprehensive and informative I've seen. Sonic Pad has potential but you have to get your hands into the code. I don't have much faith in Creality's responsiveness to release new printer.cfg files quickly. Even if the official configuration of our machine is released, we'll still have to go write in the Klipper code. It's up to me to write a commented printer.cfg file with all possible updates included. Good luck for the rest of your videos on the Sonic Pad (change of printer, modification of the slicer with Cura or Prusaslicer,...).
@@TheTechnologyMan To clarify, this tablet is not suitable for all printers. This solution will not work for the anycubic kobra printer, since the resistors need to be soldered in the anycubic kobra printer itself, only after that the clipper will work correctly. The thing is that anycubic kobra decided to normally put different drivers for the axes - TMC2209 clones and TMC2208 extruder on one UART, but did not take into account that the TMC2208 will have the address 0, as well as on the X axis. Therefore, it is necessary to solder the address of the driver X from 0 to 3. Solder the resistors R65 to R66. So, this device is most likely for all printers of the creality brand. But, many solutions from the creality brand are easily integrated into anycubic kobra. For example, I have successfully installed anycubic kobra creality 3d digital spoon rack-s. Everything fell into place without alteration. Set the adjustment of the platform as in creality (twister + springs) + automatic alignment from anycubic kobra themselves. This is my subjective opinion. The Creality Sonic Pad tablet is not really needed when for the same price of $ 90-100 you can buy a mini pc SZBOX T5 Pro (intel 3305 processor, 6GB of memory, 64GB of space is a lot, I only have 6.8 gigs of space occupied) install debian 11, lift the docker and the port, deploy an octoprint in the docker or a clipper, connect the camera and, if desired, you can install Home Assistant. Thus, the printer can be integrated into the HomeAssistant and we get the opportunity to control the printer via a voice assistant or using smart home automation and output the camera to any smart TV at the request of the voice assistant.
Just got my sonic pad today. I had a klipper setup on a pi but liked the idea of more optimized profiles and the input shaper accelerometer. The tip on using the bed for Y was great and am just about to do that. great video thanks!
Just got mine a couple of days ago. Tuned my entire printer all over again, used pressure advance, input shaping, everything. Even put extra software (obico) on there to enable remote access so i can check in on my prints and printer feom anywhere i want outside of my home network. I love how i can change the printer firmware right on the pad instead of having to compile or flash different firmwares every time. I was a. Bit skeptical bur now i wish i had this pad three years ago!
I'm upgrading from an Ender 3 v2 running octopi to an S1 Pro with sonic pad. Thank you so much for this video, it gives me somewhere to start. Excellent in depth review!!
This is probably one of the best reviews of this product I have ever seen!, I cannot reccomend it enough. Ever thought of sending it to creality and showing them how its done!
I've updated to the latest firmware. I can confirm, the resonance testing through the standard options on the Sonic Pad covers X and Y axis now. Thank you for saving me hours of hair pulling!
Just got mine. pretty much got it running smooth with your help :) didnt want to push it too much so went for test benchy with 400% speed (from 80mm/s base in slicer) so 320mm/s with 5000 accel. took 33 mins with result like on a stock just a bit of error on backside hull. (arches even the chimney was flawless) Just wish it had some kind of remote access (not only home wifi) so i could check on it while in work throught my phone. guess my sollution will be a laptop next to printer connected to sonic pad throught wifi, while ill connect to laptop via microsoft remote access app on phone to control it :D
Why is it so difficult and so many devices? It is easier to take one mini pc SZBOX T5 Pro on aliexpress at a price of $ 90-100, which will replace two Creality Sonic Pad devices and the laptop that you are going to install. This SZBOX T5 Pro is small, has no fans and its resources are abundant enough to control the printer and camera operation. In total, 6.8 GB of 64 GB of space is occupied and 700-900 MB of 6 GB of memory is consumed. We install debian11, docker + portainer, put an octoprint with a clipper plugin in the docker and control the printer with a clipper. We install and configure OpenVPN for remote access and manage the printer from anywhere, no matter where you will be. Also, if desired, you can install Home Assistant and it will automatically control the printer, and you can also implement voice control of the printer, at the request of the voice assistant to display the camera on TV, and you can also automatically send videos or photos to telegram and even automatically turn off the printer when it finishes printing the part. I have already done all this and worked successfully and even tested the printer illumination. If it's dark outside and the printer is on, then the light will turn on itself with not much brightness by 20%, and if I approach the printer, the brightness of the light will increase to 100%, as I move away from the printer, the brightness decreases to 20%. If the day is sunny, then the printer's backlight does not turn on, but I can turn it on through the voice assistant
The resonance test is to measure the frequency as the print head see them. By putting the sensor on the bed for the Y-axis reading, you are bypassing the resonance as it travels through the z-axis screws and the rollers that the head rides on.
@@TheTechnologyMan Another analogy of this is the large mass dampers near the top of tall skyscrapers. They dampen the sway of the building they feel at the top during earthquakes, not what is happening at the base. If the bed of the printer is reading higher vibration levels than what the print head sees, it will overcompensate for it in the software. I have an S1 Plus, so the bed has more mass, but the whole printer does too. I may or may not see a more noticeable difference than a standard size printer when I set my Sonic Pad up on it.
Great video. I picked one up and it was a breeze to setup but when I shut down the printer I had to reconfigure it when turning it back on. Hopefully this time it will save my settings when I shut it down today. Great video, I learned a lot more than I can digest in one sitting about this Sonic Pad and what it can do. Your video helped me understand a lot of the features I didn’t know about.
Excellent review!. Ive had my eye in this pad for a while but had some questions about it. You managed to answer most of them. Ill be ordering one now for sure. Thx!
My sonic pad has arrived today, your video is going to make setting up cura loads smoother so cheers for that! I understand the newer firmware for the sonic pad has been updated to do the resonance test on the Y axis in the tutorial so will see what happens a bit later on...
@@TheTechnologyMan the updated firmware is an improvement but it still isn't perfect. They illustrate the sensor going in the centre of the bed however the x axis gantry is too low to enable you to fix it as depicted. I used some masking tape on the bed and some double sided sticky tape on the sensor. Worked fine on the 1st attempt.
Hi. I’ve come straight here from reading your excellent Sonic Pad instructions to subscribe to you. Learnt and implemented things I otherwise would have not known so quickly. loving the Pad and the benefits it brings to my S1 Pro. There might be some money to be made from prints after all! Cheers. 🎉
I'm fairly new to 3d printing. I have both a Ender 3v2 and a Ender 3 S1. Both on Sonics pads and I'm totally new to Klipper. I feel some of this will take time to learn for me, but I appreciate the simple yet in depth video.
Thank you for this detailed and thorough video. It made the first steps with the Sonic Pad significantly easier. I watched it several times, always going one step further :-)
After this review, this item is going from my wish list to ordered. Like lots of new people to 3D ing, I am clueless to a Klipper set-up, this seems like a good start. Hopefully Creality will add the ender 5 to the list. Thanks for a great review
I tried to import the cura profiles as you mentioned in the video. Still, I got an error saying that the quality type "fast" is not compatible with the active machine definition "creality_base'. Did that occur to you?
Thank you. The best video I have come across. I just purchased this to go with my CR10 Smart Pro, mainly because I use my printer sideways as I can't see the nozzle from the front. I have been fairly disappointed with it so far, the setup instructions are not clear enough. I seem to have lost the ability to power off my printer from the Sonic Pad as I could with the default display. The Creality HD camera that came with the printer doesn't work with the Sonic Pad, that's just ridiculous. The Sonic Pad lost all the settings after I had completed the first installation and I had to start again after turning it off. I made a mistake and entered the wrong bed temperature, as the bed was already at 60 degs I had to wait 20 minutes and was locked out until the bed had cooled to 40 degs. Now I find out that the printer and pad can't connect to each other solely via network cables and the USB connection is so flakey they have had to produce a serial lead and adapter which isn't available yet. So yes, pretty annoyed at the moment with my £160 purchase.
great video, so can you control your flsun with the sonic pad? i'm switching to klipper my delta printers but by specs i definitely like the sonic pad rather than the speeder pad, what do you think?
I have the first 3S1 and added the Sprite Pro Extruder (along with the light bar and bed insulation). When setting up the Sonic Pad, should I choose 3S1 or 3S1 Pro ? I also noticed that there were a couple of choices for each of those printers. How do we know which one we have?
Great video, I have been getting a few vertical lines in my prints. I think this video with the links to the Klipper read me, might just help me.Thanks for taking the time and making this helpful video much appreciated.
This is a great review! I am thinking of getting one for my new 3 S1 pro and after seeing this review and walkthrough it’s a sold upgrade for sure!! Thank you! Also knowing my Logitech will work is a great bit of info. Cheers
great video, very informative, got the sonic pad working on my old creality ender 3 v1 with an ender 3 pro replacement board(ebay) running 4.2.2 and amazing worked fine!
Everything is working well getting the Sonic Pad set up with my Ender 3 S1 Pro, but when I try to import the profiles into Cura, it errors and tells me that the quality types "normal" and "fast" are incompatible with the current active machine definition.
I just ordered two to test out on my V2's. I do have an extender kit on one of them so I'm hoping that it will be easy to change the build area of the printer in Klipper. This will be my first time messing around with Klipper . Great video thank you!
I had to do this for my S1 Plus. It wasn't as straight forward as I was hoping but I was able to figure it out. The bed screw measurements were something new for me coming from Marlin. I also had to learn how Klipper calculates E steps as it's much different than Marlin. Thanks for great video. I'd love a more in depth one with more tips and tricks.
I have followed your video as I also have an S1 Pro + SonicPad. One thing I am missing after going from Octoprint is notifications when print is complete. Maybe you have an idea how to get such plugin working for the SonicPad?
I read that Creality recently added the S1 Plus to the Sonic Pad. I’m worried that the one I ordered might have outdated firmware. Is there a way to update the firmware on the sonic pad before selecting your printer during the setup menu?
This Sonic Pad looks to have so much potential, but the difficulty of setting it up most probably scares away more than 90% of those who are interested in it. You would think Creality would go out of their way to import as many printer profiles as possible, in order to make this a "GO TO" device. To see them dragging their feet to do so, is head scratching, as they are leaving tons of money and popularity on the table. Also, you show in the description that the October 31st update added the "CR10 Smart" to the list of default printers, so that brings the question for me of does that mean that the successor "CR10 Smart PRO" will be able to use that setting as well, or are the different boards of the two printers too different??? If MY "CR10 Smart PRO" would work with this Sonic Pad, as I'm assuming it would, I will have to buy this and do the work to get it going. Also, in the latest update, have they done anything to make it easier to view a webcam over a browser from outside your home/local network?? That's an important factor as well. Thanks for a great detailed vid. I've subbed, and look forward to seeing more from your channel, as this is the first vid I've seen of yours. You speak like your on ten cups of strong coffee, but that's what the pause button is for... Cheers!
@@TheTechnologyMan- I decided to buy a separate security pan/tilt wifi camera, that can be accessed any time from anywhere in the world over the net. Now I don't have to depend on Creality to see my printer in action from outside my home network. It's an easy, simple and efficient solution. Of course my CR10 Smart Pro already comes with an ethernet port and HD camera, but I wanted something that can pan and tilt to my liking, so this new camera was a no brainer. And it's a much higher definition at 2K.
So I just bought a Sonic Pad to use with Elegoo Neptune 3, only to realize that most people will use it with Creality printers 😂 I was wondering if you have another video for those using the Sonic Pad with other printers? Love how in depth you went with everything. Keep up the great work! 💯💯💯
😂 You can always use the "thanks" button under this video or any follow up video - thank you! When I have time I'll be reviewing the FLSUN Speeder Pad - and will try and see if I can get the FLSUN SR working well on the Sonic Pad.
For the anycubic kobra printer, this solution will not start right out of the box and without intervention, since the resistors need to be soldered in the anycubic kobra printer itself, only after that the clipper will work correctly. Soldering resistors is fraught with the fact that if we fail to solder, we can disable the board. Personally, I don't use a clipper, I don't see the need for it. I don't work for a client, I'm a user and I don't print that often and I don't need high print speed and super high print quality. I use an octoprint that perfectly controls the printer completely. I bought a mini pc SZBOX T5 Pro (intel 3305 processor, 6gb of memory, 64gb of space is a lot, I only have 6.8 gigs of space occupied), installed Debian 11, docker, portainer, lifted the octoprint in the docker, threw the camera, integrated the octoprint into the Home Assistant, which allowed me to automate printer management as by means of a smart home, and through a voice assistant. I can stop, start and pause the print with my voice, replace the filament, park the extruder, and photos and videos are sent to me by telegram if I'm not at home. If I'm at home, then I'll forgive my voice assistant to display the image on any TV and I can see how printing is going. If I'm not at home or I went to bed and the printer finished printing, then the printer turns itself off.I also set up automatic printer warm-up via the voice assistant, although I prescribed warm-up in gcode, but this is not enough, since for good printing you need to warm up the platform for 5-10 minutes, then the filament will stick perfectly to the platform
Great channel and presentation. Cool product. Just recently got my first 3d printer (ender 3s1pro) and love it. Sounds like this is a great upgrade. Should we be concerned about motor lifespan being reduced with speeding up?
Thanks! Printing faster will probably wear parts a little quicker but I'd just make sure nothing's rattling around and the prints are coming out ok and not worry too much about it.
I drilled 2 small holes in the bed handle of my S1 Pro that align with the existing holes in the X/Y sensor. I use the printable sensor mount on the memory stick and mount that to the Sprite extruder to take the X axis measurement. I unscrew the sensor from the extruder mount and then screw it into the holes that I made in the bed handle to take the Y measurement.
thanks for the written review and this video. my sonic pad didn't recognize logitech c210 webcam when plugged in. do you know there any workaround to make it work?
Very interesting thank you for the time and effort. Having installed Klipper manually on a test printer I can attest to the fact that it is a total ball ache to do it that way and this device makes it lot easier, the fact that it controls 4 printers at once makes it a no brainer really, While I love Octopi this really does make it a lot easier to switch, no 4xPi's or alternatives. I have it on two CR10 V3's and I am looking to explore the possibility of using it on my Sovol Idex printer ,By the way it only works on one webcam if anyone is wondering.... Creality needs to look in version 2 for more expansion options or perhaps better a powered module that the accepts all the cables and a single conductor to the Sonic Pad
Just as a heads up to everyone, it also now supports the CR-6 SE and MAX. BUT, when you buy it you will have to upgrade the firmware on the pad itself to access these features which is pretty straight forward, download the firmware, load it onto a memory stick, insert the memory stick, and it will prompt to upgrade the firmware for the sonic pad.
I have two questions - is it necessary to leave the accelerometer attached to the printer once you've completed the resonance setup, and also, I have an Ender S1 non-pro version. I want to upgrade the hotend to the pro version, or at least the upgraded internal parts, to handle higher temperatures for TPU, ABS, PETG, etc. Are the max temp settings adjustable on the Klipper or do you somehow need to load S1 pro firmware for this to work?
No you can remove the accelerometer. If you just upgrade the hotend you won't need to load S1 Pro firmware, but you will have to tweak your existing settings for the new hotend.
Hi Gidon, have you ever used a FLSUN speeder pad? There is no resume print option in it, when ever there is a power cut, the pad restarts and it doesn't show resume print option, is it the same with creality sonic pad?
I know it's been a little while since you made this video but it's still one of the most informative videos out there. Thank you for all the valuable information. I really hope you might make a follow up video to maybe show what you've learned since this one was made and possibly save some of us Klipper beginner's a lot of headaches. Also, I was wondering about the webcams you used. Did the Logitech webcams have as good of a picture quality as the Anker? I'm about to order a webcam and noticed the C270 is cheaper. But if you think the C920 is better I'd like to know. And what's the difference in the C920 and C925E? Thank you for any help you can give.
Thank you appreciate it - and glad it helped! Yes I do hope to make a follow up video when I get time. The C920 is an older model - but well supported with the Sonic Pad and Octopring etc. It's far better quality than the C270 if you can afford it. The Logitech and Anker are pretty similar - if I was buying one specifically I'd probably go for the Logitech just for compatibility.
Nice video ... great job on the presentation! I'm sold, amazon says the sonic pad will arrive tomorrow. I'll be ecstatic if it really cuts s1 pro print time by 50% or more. Can't wait to try it out!
Is pressure advance possible on the Ender 3 v2 boards (4.2.2 and 4.2.7)? Or is it the same case as linear advance on those boards, namely a no-go due to the silent stepper motors? Excellent introduction to the Sonic Pad, BTW!
@@TheTechnologyMan Thank you very much for getting back to me. Having not long upgraded to a Mosquito and Bondtech combo the 160 quid required is a little elusive at the moment. But this additional bit of information means that the Sonic Pad is now definitely in my cross hairs.
@@TheTechnologyMan I found out that it does work with the Enders 7, But you have to manually set it up as no automatic profile like the Enders 3 series
Great video! How would you modify klipper or the firmware for Ender3 V2 upgrades such as runout sensor, CR Touch and Sprite pro extruder? Extruder can run at higher temp, probe placement is way off from stock hot end position. I’m not sure how to apply these mods in Klipper, much more familiar with Marlin. Thanks
I like my sonic pad. A lot of people in the official Facebook group seem to not understand what they were getting into when they bought it. They went on so much about the flaw of the updates that I blocked mine from accessing the internet on my router. I’m still running the original firmware it shipped with. I’m sure it would be fine, but I’ll wait until a must have feature comes out.
Great video I did struggle keeping up with the speed it was given, just ordered the sonic pad for my E3 v2, I also have a Anycubic Kobra 2 which is pretty quick but quite loud due to the 7000rpm part cooling fan, depending on how well this performs I might be sending that printer back
Try reducing the playback speed to 0.75x - TH-cam does a good job on this. And you can enable captions - I have full transcripts for every video. Hope that helps.
Hey I have watched this video and set up printer and sonic pad. I am having an issue where after it homes and starts a print it prints that starter line off the left side of bed and then starts to print project off center to the left… Any chance for some help on how to resolve this issue?? Thanks in advance
On my Sonic I don't see the remaining time and the layer count? Do you have any ideas? I've gone through the settings but can't find anything. Thanks? And thanks for the heads up on sending prints directly to my S1, what a difference that alone has made, no more removing the card.
Thanks for the great tutorial, Can you tell us if it is necessary to open configuration file for saving resonance test values or the Sonic Pad does that itself? Thanks in advance
14:00 How can I customize this progress screen? I'd like remove\hide axes positions line, in that place put the number of Layers line. Is it possible? Right now I can't see "Number of layers" line at all.
With the latest Ender 3 S1 Pro firmware I can now select the hot end or the laser when starting the printer. That huge if applied to the Sonic Pad. Any chance to revert to the printer firmware to use the laser and then go back to the sonic pad? Do I have to reconfigure the printer from scratch? Thanks
Hi I have an ender 7 and my configuration file, duse the pad make the .bin file after it lodes the .cfg to the pad. How do I get the .bin file? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks
Creality provide notes for creating the firmware .bin file - by no currently it's not provided by the pad. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself I'd imagine the forums will start having files ready to download soon if not already!
Yes, use obico, ssh into the pad, follow their installation instructions on their website and you got full control from anywhere. I just set up mine and have been following my print from work, 5 miles away from home. Without a 3rd party Software, no, it doesn't natively support remote access
I just picked up the sonic pad. I'm currently printing the bracket for the sensor. I have the script running to show a preview image of the file but nothing is displayed while printing. Any suggestions? Thanks
If you've followed my instructions for displaying thumbnails - perhaps something is broken in the current version of Cura - perhaps try an older version or wait for an update.
@@TheTechnologyMan I'll double check your instructions and verify I didn't make a mistake. It didn't occur to me the Cura version could be an issue. Thank you.
@@TheTechnologyMan well, somewhat interestingly, while I can upload and save to the computer without format issues, Cura seems to automatically default to saving in Gcode to my thumb drive. Not sure what the issue is, but it's easily circumvented by saving to the computer and then copying to the thumb drive. All previews are now working. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video. Can't get my new SP connected to a Ender-3 v2 Neo. Although the model IS listed on the setup screen, I still end up with Klippy host attempting to connect error. Seems that an upgrade to the Bootloader is required and included on the usb stick. But it's a lot to do that.
Thankyou for clearing up the bedslinger accelerometer issue that has been plaguing my mind. I could not see how it could work on a non core XY machine. It makes sense that you would want to use it on both axes to get the combined results. It sounds like you have to have the 4.2.7 board to be able to use the Pad though. No Ender 3 support is a killer for me. I see no point in having to buy a new Creality printer just to be able to use the sonic pad.
Hello I am running a V2 / mriscoc / sprite ,, my question is can I run the Sonic pad with mriscoc or would I have to revert to original software or install klipper
Thank you, great video! One question - I use ender 5 pro completely modified and driven with Duet 3+ mini (basically only the bed and the frame are original). Do you think this could be made to work with the Duet board? Haven't seen a lot of users using Klipper with Duet but would love to give it a go. Not very happy with Duet firmware despite having it on 2 machines and trying to tune it for the last year or so.
That's not something I've tried sorry. I imagine it'd be a fair bit of work - but proababy worth asking on one of the forums - I'm sure they'll be someone who's tried Klipper with a Duet board!
Hey nice vid, do you have a confic file for the flsun SR ? I copy the confic file from the speeder pad to an USB Stick an the install it on the sonic pad. It´s still working, but the Z offset Button is not on the screen. Do have any idea ?
Are there instructions anywhere to show how to access the sonic pad remotely? The video mentions it can't be done without extra work, but doesn't say what that extra work entails.
Just have my Sonic Pad and finding out features. One thing to come my mind, that there can be cheaper version without screen and configures trought web-interface. Or why there is no printer where is klipper already?
There is the FLSUN V400 which already has Klipper and I'm sure there'll be plenty more. Creality could offer something like that - but since Klipper is Open Source - not sure how they could make any money from it.
I have an Ender 3v2 with a Microswiss direct drive extruder and a BL Touch. The ender S1 also has this type of hardware, but in a slightly different configuration. Can I use the sonic pad and just setup as S1 printer, or do I have to create custom firmware? Thanks
Very informative. Thank you for this. I do have one question. I know it has a preconfigured setting for the Ender 3V2 but is it difficult to change the setting if the E3V2 has been upgraded to 400x400 with an ender extender kit?
I'm seriously thinking of getting one for my Ender 5 Plus. But since an Ender 5 Plus is not already preloaded into the Sonic Pad it freaks me out knowing that I have to configure everything on my own especially when I have no prior experiences with Klipper to begin with. I wonder how difficult it is to install and configure an Ender 5 Plus on a scale of 1 to 10 to the Sonic Pad? Nevertheless thank you so much Gidon for your highly detailed review of the Sonic Pad. It would be awesome if you could do another video showing how to add a printer to the Sonic Pad that is not already preinstalled. Take care and again thanks for the great sharing.
Thanks for your comment. Good suggestion - will give it some thought. I don't think the Ender 5 Plus would be too difficult and I'd hope at some stage Creality would add more printers. Thing is if you're going to have start doing all this yourself, it makes the price of the Sonic Pad less attractive! Did just check and there's a printer.cfg file you'd need to load, and the Sonic Pad shows how to compile the firmware in case you do go ahead. Good luck! github.com/Klipper3d/klipper/blob/master/config/printer-creality-ender5plus-2019.cfg
My goal in 3d printing is to print high quality PETG prints without stringing. Would this sonic pad even help me? Anytime I try to print over 50 speed it becomes a stringy mess and I want to know if kippler would help my prints or a direct drive (current using bowden setup) ?
Is this in Cura? Extensions, Post Processing and Modify G-Code. I cover this briefly in the video but the manual also shows you how to enable in other slicers.
They've added a few new printers recently to hopefully. You can see the printers they've just added: www.creality.com/blog/some-main-upgrades-of-creality-sonic-pad-on-october-2022?fbclid=IwAR3RImpZYLTtIPkHythE7dUc9uD6czJHkaUj0KQYzB-9LFnR56LR7bctxuU
Thanks for the well made movie. I got finally my Ender 3 S1 running with the Sonic Pad, the only problem ido have is the Creality HD 1080P Camera. I'm no getting that thing to work. In Cura latest version I installed Moonraker plus my IP and webcam?action=stream and the result is 502 Bad Gateway. do you got an idea? Thanks in advance Kurt
@@TheTechnologyMan Yes, I got it on my laptop without any problems. I changed the webcam.txt even to auto saved it without any change. The camera works fine withe the Creality Wifi box, on the Sonic pad there is not even the blue LED on. Measured the output voltage on both back USB port, the result is 5.13 V. Creality did'nt answer yet chinese new year. :(
I have just purchased a Sonic Pad and installed it successfully. I am using an Ender 3 V2 printer with manual leveling. I have done all settings required for Sonic Pad to the extent I have understood from the manual and your TH-cam video. I understand from your video that, for faster printing, I have to set higher print speed in Ultimaker Cura. I am using 5.2.1 version. My question, what maximum print speed can be set for printing with PLA with no loss of quality?
Hi, I have a modify ender 5 plus with a working aere of 400x400x800. Is it possible to change the normal 350x350x400 value in the Sonic pad, when I secelect the ender 5 plus profil on it.....thank's
So I'm a super slicer and Prusa slicer user. I know the world likes Cura, I hate the UI :). I'd love to see you do a video on optimizing printing in Prusa Slicer for sonic pad users (and that should also extend to Klipper users general) there is a lot of information on profiles for Cura, but little for Prusa Slicer
Hi I prefer Prusa Slicer too to be honest and use it with my Prusa printers. But with these new printers I review they usually come with Cura profiles, so it takes extra time tuning profiles in Prusa Slicer. But good suggestion - and it shouldn't take long tuning profiles in Prusa Slicer. I'll see what I can do.
@@TheTechnologyMan that would be great, we have chep doing profiles for Cura and others, but Prusa doesn't seem to get as much love :). I look forward to a potential video!
Hello! What happens if I connect this to a ender 3 v2 with a GD chip (the worse one) and a sprite extruder with cr touch? I have so many issues with stock settings, that might be the solution to my problems. I need to change my bed size somehow... Probe location I managed to change, but during automatic bed leveling... Ugh. I hate it.
Check on Creality's site if you mainboard is supported. Then you'll need to tweak Klipper to work with your setup. There's help available but customising Klipper is not for the faint hearted if you're new to all this!
Hi, firstly, thank you for this review and lots of great work on this channel.. Based on this and other videos, I've ordered the Sonic Pad. But I have a question. I have a little time during print time today so I'm doing some prep for it. I was very surprised by the parameters given in the instructions for the CURA slicer. In the original profile, which is based on the printer parameters, I have set the real size of my S1 PRO: 220x220x270mm But in the PDF for the Sonic pad it says: 235x235x250 This is strange to me because yes, the print area is realistically 235mm (to the edge), but the height is two centimetres smaller. Can you explain this to me? Thanks.
Hello - enjoying your videos as a novice to 3D printing. My new Sonic Pad does not have an IP address in the WiFi menu tab (only in the LAN page). Creality tech support says that the Pad cannot be controlled via a web browser. ?? Can you give some insight into this issue?
@@TheTechnologyMan Thank you for your reply and your advice. For whatever reason (I made no changes) when I disconnected and reconnected the WiFi - the IP address appeared and I could access it via my web browser. Oddly, it will only recognize the 2.4G network and not the 5G? Creality chat support told me that it would be a future capability to control the Pad via a web browser. ?? Well, it is working for me now. Anyway, thank you for your time and information. I am saving and reviewing your videos. You and a couple others have been gracious enough to respond to my queries. Cheers.
I ordered the sonic pad it will be here in December. I'm new to 3d printing. I see you set up temps, retraction, print speed and settings in cura, but you also can set them on the ender software. Just confused on that part. On how that works.
Thank you for your video, it has helped me a lot, but I have a problem when trying to import the profiles downloaded from Creality for cura, it tells me that there is an error when importing the profile: "the type of quality fast is not compatible with the definition Current active machine creality_base, I have followed all your steps. What could it be? Thanks again for your help.
I did briefly mention this in video - you need to follow the whole setup in the manual for this to work properly - including adding the printer as described otherwise you get this message.
Would it be at all possible to. share your g-code file for the ringing tower. I did download the STL, but tried to understand which parameters to change in Cora 5.1, according to the documentation you linked. I am very new to this 3D printing, and even less familiar with Sonic Pad and klipper. I have run. the resonance test, and the newest firmware version does both X and Y shaping. But, my main concern is getting a proper ringing tower print to see how it worked. A pointer to the g-code for that file, OR the list of proper Cura 5.1 settings to modify would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
@@TheTechnologyMan I started to, but the Klipper documentation link made a bunch of slicing suggestions, including # of tops, bottoms, walls, thickness, speed etc that are not my standard settings. It. even suggested if possible to use vase mode. The suggestions unfortunately didn't match the Cura settings that I can see in the software, and I wasn't able to translate the. documentation suggested slicer settings into Cura (I am very new to this). I did start to run it, but it certainly didn't seem that vase mode was working (or even should work), and I didn't see anything accellerating, so I cancelled the print.
Thank you for the great service and efforts you put into this. It's very comprehensive, I just got started with mine. I sure feel like an amateur and compared to your skill set and knowledge. 💪🇺🇸😎
Thank you for your comment - really appreciate it and I'm glad the video helped you out! Have fun with it!
@@TheTechnologyManI ordered one of these with the impression that I could view the camera and start/stop prints while away from home. You stated that it is not capable of working off the network without doing some extra work. How would I go about doing that?
Just ordered one for my S1 pro. Great review and so refreshing to see you mostly reply to most questions in here. New subscriber, great work mate :)
Thanks - I try! Hope you enjoy the printer when it arrives.
I've been looking to upgrade my setup rather than deal with the inherent design flaws in the Anycubic Kobra. Your videos have been key. They're extremely well put together and not only helped me decide but will be helpful during setup. Thanks
That's great very glad I could help and good luck!
Thanks! I do hope they do include profiles for all their printers. There does seem to be a lot of interest in the pad so it's in their interests.
Just got mine today, ton more profiles than at the time of this video, including my CR-10 S5!
No problem glad it helped! Have fun playing with the new toy ;)!
Great!
I'm upgrading from an Ender 3 v2 running octopi to an S1 Pro with sonic pad. Thank you so much for this video, it gives me somewhere to start. Excellent in depth review!!
Great really glad it helped!
This is probably one of the best reviews of this product I have ever seen!, I cannot reccomend it enough. Ever thought of sending it to creality and showing them how its done!
Many thanks - much appreciated!
I've updated to the latest firmware. I can confirm, the resonance testing through the standard options on the Sonic Pad covers X and Y axis now. Thank you for saving me hours of hair pulling!
Yes I must do a follow up video with all the new features!
Sounds like you're making good progress!
you can setup a dnsapp to get your ip and setup remote access ports from your modem to have access outside your home
Great video sir! I've got a sonic pad on the way and this is the kind of information I was looking to study before it arrives. Keep up the great work!
That's great - glad to help and enjoy the pad!
The resonance test is to measure the frequency as the print head see them. By putting the sensor on the bed for the Y-axis reading, you are bypassing the resonance as it travels through the z-axis screws and the rollers that the head rides on.
The S1 Pro is a bed slinger.
The manual says to put it on the bed of you got a bed slinger
Great video. I picked one up and it was a breeze to setup but when I shut down the printer I had to reconfigure it when turning it back on. Hopefully this time it will save my settings when I shut it down today. Great video, I learned a lot more than I can digest in one sitting about this Sonic Pad and what it can do. Your video helped me understand a lot of the features I didn’t know about.
Glad it helped!
Mine’s arriving tomorrow. This review is great, lots information that I use to get my S1 set up for fast printing.
Thank you - really happy the video helped you out. Have fun setting up the S1!
Excellent review!. Ive had my eye in this pad for a while but had some questions about it. You managed to answer most of them. Ill be ordering one now for sure. Thx!
No problem glad the video helped!
My sonic pad has arrived today, your video is going to make setting up cura loads smoother so cheers for that! I understand the newer firmware for the sonic pad has been updated to do the resonance test on the Y axis in the tutorial so will see what happens a bit later on...
Yes that's right - I hope to do a video with some of the latest updates soon.
Massive thanks for the video. I have my Sonic Pad on the way and this video really helps with getting started.
No problem glad I could help! Have fun with it when it arrives.
I just got mine in today for my Ender 3 Max Neo! Thank you for your video! I'm hoping to set it up today.
Hope you enjoy it!
Hi. I’ve come straight here from reading your excellent Sonic Pad instructions to subscribe to you. Learnt and implemented things I otherwise would have not known so quickly. loving the Pad and the benefits it brings to my S1 Pro. There might be some money to be made from prints after all! Cheers. 🎉
Brilliant glad the article helped and have fun 3D printing! Thanks for the support.
I'm fairly new to 3d printing. I have both a Ender 3v2 and a Ender 3 S1. Both on Sonics pads and I'm totally new to Klipper. I feel some of this will take time to learn for me, but I appreciate the simple yet in depth video.
Great glad the video helped and have fun!
Thank you for this detailed and thorough video. It made the first steps with the Sonic Pad significantly easier. I watched it several times, always going one step further :-)
Great glad the video helped!
This video is really helpful for the sonic pad setup in a very detail way, and also a great review! Thank you for your efforts.
No problem - glad it was helpful!
Juat a note in a update they have allowed you to get root ssh access
this is massive win
Yes thanks it's very useful. I released this video quite early on.
After this review, this item is going from my wish list to ordered. Like lots of new people to 3D ing, I am clueless to a Klipper set-up, this seems like a good start. Hopefully Creality will add the ender 5 to the list. Thanks for a great review
Thanks glad the review helped!
Excellent information! Thank you for the services you provide. Helped me get my printer/pad running flawlessly.
No problem great to hear the video helped!
Absolutely awesome video, I followed through after getting one, the time saving is seriously impressive.
Thanks - very glad it helped!
I tried to import the cura profiles as you mentioned in the video. Still, I got an error saying that the quality type "fast" is not compatible with the active machine definition "creality_base'. Did that occur to you?
You have to follow those instructions to add the printer too, otherwise you get that message.
@@TheTechnologyMan I didn't see the custom FFF setting step. Thanks. Awesome job.
It does take a little getting used to but hopefully you can get it to do what you want.
Hey Gidon, This is a great video, the best one for setting up Sonic pad for beginners. Easy step-by-step instructions.
Great glad the video helped!
This was absolutely fantastic thank you. I just bought one and really wanted some more clarity this was great
Y Axis resonance frequency testing is now included :)
Yes - loads of updates which is great!
great video, so can you control your flsun with the sonic pad? i'm switching to klipper my delta printers but by specs i definitely like the sonic pad rather than the speeder pad, what do you think?
Thanks! It should be possible but not tried it yet - will do soon hopefully.
I have the first 3S1 and added the Sprite Pro Extruder (along with the light bar and bed insulation). When setting up the Sonic Pad, should I choose 3S1 or 3S1 Pro ? I also noticed that there were a couple of choices for each of those printers. How do we know which one we have?
i would put the 3s1 in case they have different motherboards
Yes choose the S1 and select the correct mainboard.
Great video, I have been getting a few vertical lines in my prints. I think this video with the links to the Klipper read me, might just help me.Thanks for taking the time and making this helpful video much appreciated.
No problem glad it was helpful and good luck!
This is a great review! I am thinking of getting one for my new 3 S1 pro and after seeing this review and walkthrough it’s a sold upgrade for sure!! Thank you! Also knowing my Logitech will work is a great bit of info. Cheers
Thanks - glad it was helpful!
great video, very informative, got the sonic pad working on my old creality ender 3 v1 with an ender 3 pro replacement board(ebay) running 4.2.2 and amazing worked fine!
Great job!
Everything is working well getting the Sonic Pad set up with my Ender 3 S1 Pro, but when I try to import the profiles into Cura, it errors and tells me that the quality types "normal" and "fast" are incompatible with the current active machine definition.
You need to follow the instructions when setting up the printer for the profiles to load correctly - I show this in the video.
Make sure you're running an up to date version of Cura.
I just ordered two to test out on my V2's. I do have an extender kit on one of them so I'm hoping that it will be easy to change the build area of the printer in Klipper. This will be my first time messing around with Klipper . Great video thank you!
Thanks! Once the printer is up and running - it's pretty easy messing configuring the printer.cfg file to get your printer setup just right.
I'm using the RC Klipper 3D app - although can't remember if it has notifications off the top of my head.
I read that Creality recently added the S1 Plus to the Sonic Pad. I’m worried that the one I ordered might have outdated firmware. Is there a way to update the firmware on the sonic pad before selecting your printer during the setup menu?
Yes you can update the firmware on the Sonic Pad - IIRC it prompts you when it has internet connectivity.
Cheers!
Thanks glad the video helped. No no remote access solution from Creality.
So I just bought a Sonic Pad to use with Elegoo Neptune 3, only to realize that most people will use it with Creality printers 😂
I was wondering if you have another video for those using the Sonic Pad with other printers? Love how in depth you went with everything. Keep up the great work! 💯💯💯
Thanks for the suggestion!
@@TheTechnologyMan I will gladly pay you $100 directly for this video. Please let me know the best way to do that. Thank you so much!
Great tip!
thanks for the written review and this video. my sonic pad didn't recognize logitech c210 webcam when plugged in. do you know there any workaround to make it work?
Have you checked Klipper support for the the C210? You may just to modify the config.
Great video! Any idea why the build volume is different that creality gives to you to add a new machine for the new cura profiles?
Thanks! Sorry I'm not sure exactly what you mean?
No problem glad it helped and thanks for the tips!
Thanks for leaving a comment to help others! I do hope to do an update on the Sonic Pad soon!
Big thank you for letting me know I can measure Y axis. Everyone else left it out of the review.
No problem glad to help!
Hi - I've still not tested the Speeder Pad 😳 - hopefully soon! IIRC the Sonic Pad has a resume function.
@@TheTechnologyMan i definitely would switch to sonic pad then
I know it's been a little while since you made this video but it's still one of the most informative videos out there.
Thanks - hope you enjoy the Sonic Pad when it arrives!
Is pressure advance possible on the Ender 3 v2 boards (4.2.2 and 4.2.7)? Or is it the same case as linear advance on those boards, namely a no-go due to the silent stepper motors? Excellent introduction to the Sonic Pad, BTW!
Thanks! Klipper is handling the pressure advance should be ok.
@@TheTechnologyMan Thank you very much for getting back to me. Having not long upgraded to a Mosquito and Bondtech combo the 160 quid required is a little elusive at the moment. But this additional bit of information means that the Sonic Pad is now definitely in my cross hairs.
Great video to understand all the features of this nice bit of hardware
Do you or any one know if it can be used on an enders 7
Thanks glad the video helped! Best check Creality for latest hardware support - seems to change weekly!
Thanks
Thanks. I'd suggest asking in the Facebook groups - bit too much to cover here. Have fun!
I've had no issues updating my Sonic Pad FWIW - and there's been lots of updates.
I am having an issue where after it homes and starts a print it prints that starter line off the left side of bed and then starts to print project off center to the left…
Any chance for some help on how to resolve this issue??
Thanks in advance
I'd check your start g-code and make sure the printer is set up properly in Cura.
On my Sonic I don't see the remaining time and the layer count? Do you have any ideas? I've gone through the settings but can't find anything. Thanks? And thanks for the heads up on sending prints directly to my S1, what a difference that alone has made, no more removing the card.
Have you update dto the latest firmware? I didn't change any settings to get those fields. Glad the tip on sending prints over WiFi helped!
Thanks for the great tutorial,
Can you tell us if it is necessary to open configuration file for saving resonance test values or the Sonic Pad does that itself? Thanks in advance
Glad it helped! It's a while since I did this and on older firmware. Am planning an update to this video so will double check then.
@@TheTechnologyMan sure thing! thanks a lot
14:00 How can I customize this progress screen? I'd like remove\hide axes positions line, in that place put the number of Layers line. Is it possible? Right now I can't see "Number of layers" line at all.
Not sure that's possible right now.
The number of layers line is right there though, last line above the three option buttons
Thanks
I would save the printer.cfg file just in case but not tried with very latest firmware.
Great Video! Really appreciate the in depth knowledge product knowledge, I am looking to get one of the Sonic Pads once it's available in Canada
Thank you - glad it helped! Hopefully they'll be back in stock soon!
I can’t seem to find a straight answer anywhere on the internet, can you remotely pause/stop the print using the sonic pad while away from home?
You'd have to remotely log in to your computer, or setup port forwarding to you Sonic Pad on your router. Then you could control the printer.
I'd ask Creality or on the Facebook forums - hopefully someone can help.
I have a C920 as well and I cant get it to work. It displays video in the webui and the sonic pad but fails to save anything.
Strange - have configured the webcam.txt file?
Thankyou for clearing up the bedslinger accelerometer issue that has been plaguing my mind. I could not see how it could work on a non core XY machine. It makes sense that you would want to use it on both axes to get the combined results. It sounds like you have to have the 4.2.7 board to be able to use the Pad though. No Ender 3 support is a killer for me. I see no point in having to buy a new Creality printer just to be able to use the sonic pad.
Yes I hope they add more printers soon.
Hello I am running a V2 / mriscoc / sprite ,, my question is can I run the Sonic pad with mriscoc or would I have to revert to original software or install klipper
You'll flash the firmware anyway so should be OK but not something I've specifically done.
@@TheTechnologyMan thanks! There are a few attempts but not very encouraging. Putting it on the to-do list though! :)
I’ve recently purchased an Ender 3 S1 Pro myself, and I’ve been thinking of recording my prints. How’ve you attached your camera please?
You can use the USB port on the Sonic Pad.
Hey nice vid, do you have a confic file for the flsun SR ? I copy the confic file from the speeder pad to an USB Stick an the install it on the sonic pad. It´s still working, but the Z offset Button is not on the screen. Do have any idea ?
I'm a little behind on my FLSUN Speeder Pad review - but hope to try the FLSUN config on the Sonic Pad when I do. And will try and provide a link.
Are there instructions anywhere to show how to access the sonic pad remotely? The video mentions it can't be done without extra work, but doesn't say what that extra work entails.
If you Google port forwarding - it's pretty straight forward but you need to make sure you have a secure password for your Sonic Pad.
How did you connect the printer to the USB port on the back? My printer only works with the USB1 port on the side of the Sonic Pad.
I'll check next time I'm at the printer - perhaps something has changed in the latest firmware ...
@@TheTechnologyMan Found it. USB port is defined in config file. Changed from 1 to 3 and that's it.
Hi, if you fit the sonic pad, can you remove the old touch pad from the printer?
Great info and video 👍
Yes I assume you can - not actually done it so can't say for sure though!
Thanks
If the printer's board is supported you can use the Sonic Pad. You'll just need to adjust the printer.cfg for your setup.
Very informative. Thank you for this. I do have one question. I know it has a preconfigured setting for the Ender 3V2 but is it difficult to change the setting if the E3V2 has been upgraded to 400x400 with an ender extender kit?
If you've not changed the motherboard should be ok - you'll just need to edit the printer size in printer.cfg.
@@TheTechnologyMan thank you so much Sir for your swift reply, recommendation and tips. Will look it up for sure. Cheers and take care.
I mostly print with tpu. I'm curious if I'll see any added benefit to the actual speed of something being printed
TPU is tricky - you might get slightly faster prints - but not much in it - in my experience at least.
My goal in 3d printing is to print high quality PETG prints without stringing. Would this sonic pad even help me? Anytime I try to print over 50 speed it becomes a stringy mess and I want to know if kippler would help my prints or a direct drive (current using bowden setup) ?
You can tune your settings with Klipper - but if your prints are very stringy it might be due to wet filament (usually is_ so Klipper won't help.
How did u get a preview image on your sonic pad? Everything I've printed never had a image.
Is this in Cura? Extensions, Post Processing and Modify G-Code. I cover this briefly in the video but the manual also shows you how to enable in other slicers.
Are they going to add more printers to this? I have a CR6SE and would love this.
Thanks in advance
Kurt
I've not tried it with the Creality camera - do you see the web interface ok?
That's hard to say - it will depend on the print and how fussy you are!
can not find the profiles for fast printing. Might you point me in the right direction?
You can download them from the Creality site.
Hi,
I have a modify ender 5 plus with a working aere of 400x400x800. Is it possible to change the normal 350x350x400 value in the Sonic pad, when I secelect the ender 5 plus profil on it.....thank's
Hi - yes after initial setup you can configure the printer as you like.
So you don't need to have the g-sensor plugged in all the time?
That’s right - only for the resonance measurements. Which you only need to do occasionally.
@@TheTechnologyMan Thanks! How is the y-axis measured (bed slinger) - do you have to redo the sonsor on the bed?
I show how to do this in the video.
Hi,
firstly, thank you for this review and lots of great work on this channel.. Based on this and other videos, I've ordered the Sonic Pad. But I have a question. I have a little time during print time today so I'm doing some prep for it. I was very surprised by the parameters given in the instructions for the CURA slicer.
In the original profile, which is based on the printer parameters, I have set the real size of my S1 PRO: 220x220x270mm
But in the PDF for the Sonic pad it says: 235x235x250
This is strange to me because yes, the print area is realistically 235mm (to the edge), but the height is two centimetres smaller.
Can you explain this to me?
Thanks.
You do normally enter the actual size of the bed in the slicer, even if you don't actually print edge to edge.
Hello - enjoying your videos as a novice to 3D printing. My new Sonic Pad does not have an IP address in the WiFi menu tab (only in the LAN page). Creality tech support says that the Pad cannot be controlled via a web browser. ?? Can you give some insight into this issue?
Not sure what they mean - yes it can be controlled from webpage - just enter the IP address from your SonicPad into your browser.
Cheers.
@@memurfmemurf That sounds right - you might want to enable dual band on your router for devices like this. Thanks for the support.
10:06 You can also get 235x235 X and Y sized prints instead of 220x220 with this thing?
That will depend on your printer - you just set it to your printer bed size - usually allowing for a small border.
There are two S1s and two S1 Pros on the 'Select Printer' screen. What's the difference between the F401 vs F103 versions?
You need to check the version of your motherboard which unforunately does involve opening it up.
i have a CR10v3 and just got a sonic pad. I have added a CRtouch ABL but i have no idea how to add the probe to the profile
any idea on what to do?
Take a look at the excellent Klipper documentation - that's where I'd start.
I just got mine but I'm really confused on how to setup the web interface if you mind can you help?
All you need to do is enter the IP address of the Sonic Pad in your browser - I show this in the video 😊.
I ordered the sonic pad it will be here in December. I'm new to 3d printing. I see you set up temps, retraction, print speed and settings in cura, but you also can set them on the ender software. Just confused on that part. On how that works.
Yes you set this up in Cura and send to the printer via the Sonic Pad.
Thank you for your reply, I will watch that part of the video again and pay more attention, I hope to fix it. 👍
Thanks!
You just print the ringing tower with your usual settings for printer / material combo - just like you print anything else - have you tried it?
@@TheTechnologyMan Thank you, I. was able to slice it, and get very reasonable results. Thank you for your informative video, it was very helpful.
@@rdavis0521 No problem glad you're sorted.
