Fun fact: Michelle nailed the whipping off of the mannequins’ heads on the first take (it’s her, not a stunt double) and the whole crew burst into spontaneous applause afterwards.if you search for it on TH-cam you can see the video footage! Although the heads were rigged to fall off, it’s still badass.

I read an article recently that said the same. There are many things to criticize about Burtons batman movies, but he nailed the depressing, dark imagery that should be gothom city.

Devito’s penguin is actually really underrated. The makeup and look was just so creepy. While he acted a bit cartoonish at time, I still liked his performance.

Burton gave us the best Batman, Joker, Catwoman and Penguin. He would've given us the best Riddler and Two-Face aswell with Robin Williams and Billy Dee Williams had he not been axed by Warner Bros.

I like that Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman is more childlike than the others. She knocks those mannequins blocks off just for fun and how often are we likely to see this character using her whip as a skipping rope? It's childish but it sets this Catwoman apart from the others.
It's 100 percent catlike. Destruction and mischievous, for no other reason than the fun of it.
One of Michelle's best acting performances, without a doubt! This role was meant for her.
Fun facts: she went through three months of whip training for this film, and decapitated those mannequins in one take.
Still trying to figure out how she made that catsuit out of a jacket she had lying around at home.

I think Halle still deserves her props. After all, her catwoman took place in a completely different universe, not canon with DC comics.
Halle did amazing with the material she was given. It's not her fault the director couldn't do his job. Her catwoman was the most cat-like as well as seductive, agile and had a charm.
Anne Hathaway was the WORST iteration of catwoman to date, people really gotta let the bad writing of Halle Berry's Catwoman go and admit she did great with what she had.

I always loved the musical score for Catwoman. It goes between whimsical cat at play and dangerous feline on the prowl. I also love her skipping rope on her whip 😂
That skipping part was totally improvised by her. I don't think she expected to nail it on the first take (because her stunt double couldn't do it). But she actually did nail it on the first take.

This film captured the exact balance between action and camp that Batman is supposed to be. Other directors after this either were too serious, or too childish. But Burton found the exact formula.

@@evm6177 I have great trust in Robert Pattinson after I saw him in a role that demanded a broad spectrum of acting (in "The Lighthouse", a great dramatic history/horror/psychothriller), and he just shone! He plays the lead in the upcoming "The Batman", and from what I gathered, it will go back to the DC roots, inspired by hard-boiled film noir detective stories. I only hope that the script/actors/cinematography/decor will be just as fine as that one performance I've seen from Robert Pattinson.

Batman Returns in my opinion is still the best Batman film. Talented cast, great pace, story, action. The city is dark and beautiful, so atmospheric. Costumes are great. The sound effects and music are great and memorable. Still the best Batman film for me.

I can't describe how much I love Batman Returns. It's so campy, over the top, full of dark humours, yet the twists and turns are so real yet fictional.
I can't decide: in term of overall quality I'd always put The Dark Knight in the number 1 spot; but for entertainment and weird, quirky art, Batman Returns has no competition. Plus, Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman (the best and still the only) and Danny DeVito as Penguin - Goodness me, they were such singulars yet they worked together so well in the narrative! Can't imagine they being in the same room with Heath Ledger's Joker (faint).
Still and will continue to be cherished as one of the best!

Did you know that her stunt double (Kathy Long) tried and failed? Her stunt double couldn't do it. But I don't think Kathy Long spent three months training with a whip like Michelle Pfeiffer did. Kathy Long is a kickboxer - not a whip handler, so that's no surprise that she couldn't do it but Michelle Pfeiffer was so pleased with herself when she nailed it in one take that she improvised that little skip she does at the end.
