This Will it Chug video didn't turn out the way that I wanted, but that's life! The results sound like fried horseshit but I did a repositioning of the microphone and it became better. The AmpTweaker Tight Metal is an incredible distortion pedal that I probably should have tried sooner.
Hey Ola, thanks for all the great content! A question for you and anyone else who may have a suggestion, I'm looking for the chuggy-est single coil size humbucker to fit in the bridge position of my Strat Am-Pro. Any ideas? Thanks.
Yes, it does. But I wish he would have tried the Fat Metal instead (I own the Fat Metal Pro). It chugs even better. Either way, Amptweaker makes my favorite distortion pedals.
@@asianaxeman : Leads?! Who needs leads? :) Actually no. For reference, I mainly use it with a stock Squier John 5 and EVH Wolfgang Standard. I tried it with my Strat with a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails and it sounds a little thin on that, but so does everything else.
There's also the story that the brown refers to the power tubes in the Marshall he played with the variax thingy, basically always playing them cooking and right on their last few breaths before completely giving up.
Alex Stevenson i guess he can play well. Ill give him that. And his tone must be good, cause i still play a 5150-II but Eddie is a turd of a human being. Blames his face cancer on metal picks, while he smokes a million cigs. Drinks a bunch of booze, and snorts a mountain of coke and speed.
The Amp Tweaker Pro is even better. It’s basically a mini switching system in a pedal. These were designed to mimic the 5150 and the Ampeg VH140 C. James Brown, the inventor, designed the original 5150s for Eddie and is working with Eddie again.
Played with Asphyx a few years back and their guitarist ran this into a Boss Reverb and Boss delay then into the effects returns of two JCM900s and they sounded savage!
@@doc_matter this pedal works either way really well. In fact, I prefer it in front of a clean amp so you can use your amp’s clean as well. The “pro” versions of these really excel at that method.
I have both tight metal pro and metalzone are the same to me. The only difference to me is the amptweaker has a good boost switch, noise gate and heavier sounding and isn’t better for solos too and rhythm isn’t same. The metalzone is good too. If metalzone broke I’ll use amptweaker and vice versa. I like simplicity In the metalzone.
Way better the second time ! Leave it to you to set us straight. BTW, there is a new amptweaker tight metal II with many revisions . (Try the pro!) would like to see you review this one . Thanks for kickass tones , Ola
I wish you could have done that with the friedman be-od deluxe, that was a pedal I was really into but the mic placement during your whole video was ass hahaha.
The TightMetal Jr. is just as great, with an adjustable noise-gate and 1/2 the size. It's the best high-gain distortion pedal I own, so I bought two of them!
Thanks so much for demoing it! The misplaced mic seriously made this even better, good to know we're all human after all. Keep it up man, been watching for many years.
Excelente, solo por esta prueba realizada en tu canal, pude decidirme . Me compré el Tight Metal, la versión que viene sin el side track, y el sonido es una aplanadora, brutal!!!!
Thank you! I am one of the "requesters"... try the Amptweaker in 'effects return' and use the 'side track' to switch in and out the preamp of the amp you're plugged into ;) (Maybe not on the 5150, but on your regular Satan, you will get this additional Tight Metal/5150 'by a click of a switch'. And as always - I loved your playing/review :)
Ola... I have used the Tightmetal as well. I use the Roctron Prophesy with the Rocktron Pro Q and then The Intellifex... This setup dialed in Decimates everything. I have spent probably 100hrs tweaking the Prophesy. The Gary Hoey Video does not do the Justice it deserves... The Gain in the Prophesy is very similar.
Great video, thanks!! I wish you had explored more options like running into the poweramp and engaging an overdrive before it. I have a few demos of the Tight Metal Jr published in my channel as well. Cheers!
@@thephoenixcycle8854 Hey bud! please describe your signal chain. Please note that TM's sound better when used as a preamp - meaning being connected to the return(poweramp) section. Also, just like a tube amp, the dynamic response might not be really tight when used without an OD boosting the input signal(actually shaping the low end). Im not a "professional youtuber", hence it's not about promoting my channel(I barely post videos), but you are more than welcome to check the videos I uploaded using the TMJr. There's a signal chain description. Thanks and good luck!
This is the 2nd demo I've heard of one of these pedals, and yes, if you want that high gain sound, it sounds fantastic. Also, all the cool output options on these pedals are fantastic.
The fastest "Will It Chug" I've seen yet, that thing is wicked,it rips🤘😝 It's definitely the best distortion pedal I've heard yet!! As soon as you got the distortion on Ola I knew it was gonna sound killer!! My favorite new pedal now too,I'm definitely getting one, can't wait 🤘😝
I don't know why I love watching the channel,I literally don't play or listen to ANY if this type of music, though when I first started playing I wanted to be Dave Mustaine. I love watching these all these videos though. I think part of it is that these videos refer to it as "Chug," and not "Djent" which drives me crazy for some unknown reason.
I guess you'd want the tight knob more for like 7 or 8 string, where you you don't want flubby bass? It definitely sounds a bit _too_ thin using it on a 6 string in (presumably) D.
The Amptweaker Tight Metal and the Megalith MI Audio are by far the best pedals for metal. Unfortunately, they don't have all the spotlight they deserve. Please test the Megalith. The Mesa Throttle Box Eq is another suggestion
Mark Kloeppel of Misery Index had contributed the development of this pedal. It has its unique "roar" which immediately reminds Misery Index albums such as Heir of Thievery.
I love this pedal! I heard Rebea playing one on "That Pedal Show" and ordered one the following week from guitar store. I bought the "Tight metal Jr." which is truly great so I bought this one as well the bigger one has more bass response on my 7 string (Nazgul equipped) but I truly love them both and I feel Like I NEED the pro version just to have the set.
Trust me the pro version is incredible. I use the boost setting for my rhythm tone. I would have the boost gain at about 9 o'clock so it sounds super fucking tight and chuggy but not too much gain
Think I should make an elevated pedal board for you with the amp in and out and effect loop Jack's on it With all neccessary power supplies built in . Kinda a slanted easel style for your videos. With a cup holder for your coffee.
Please try the pro, with the full EQ. I have been eyeing it for awhile. I've seen it in other TH-cam videos, not all satisfying. I'm very curious to see what you would make it sound like, before dropping cash on it. The pro versions are quite expensive, definitely a commitment. If you already have a good amp, getting a pedal this good is still way cheaper than another amp
That pedal sounds absolutely crushing. I think this product is often overlooked because it did not have the aggressive "TH-camr Blitz" that you see with the uniform roll outs of many different types of pedals. This is one of the few preamp pedals that begins to compete with tube amp tone. This company would do well to put these products into the hands of more influencers. This pedal sounds better than the APEX preamp and the KSR preamp everyone is talking about. Nice demo.
This pedal is designed to be a preamp pedal. ugh!!! My wet dreams of Ola demoing this pedal finally come true and he plugged it to the wrong end of the amp. Hopefully he will do a "In The Room" episode with this pedal, and plug it into the Effects loop.
Also to consider trying out for the chuggy time- another distortion pedal that includes a killer noise gate, the Empress Heavy. And honestly, I thought the Heavy was one of the only high gain amp-in-a-box that included a noise gate. I think it could challenge the Tight Metal.
Great video...Can you try the Orange Bax Bangeetar pre-amp the ISP Ultra light amp, Theta pre-amp pedal and the Theta Pro Multi fx pre-amp..Not many have done these and it would be nice to hear them in a hi quality format..You might like them too!

A pedal called the tight metal, that was designed and built by the guy who designed and built the 5150.... yes, it will chug
wow it actually sounds more like an amp gain than a pedal gain
Exactly what I thought.

Agree.
I think it's based on the Ampeg VH-140c, king of solid state high gain.
Legit cannot find this pedal anywhere. (In Canada)
Apparently he designed it loosely based on the eq curve of old solid-state ampeg vh140 popular with 90s American death metal bands.
Probably why it sounds best in a solid state or trans tube
This pedal was used by Trey on the last Mr Bungle album, that thrash metal record.
his tone is great on that album. I'm still wondering how he got the metal tone on the first Bungle album. I know he used a JMP1.
You should make a T shirt that says - I find your lack of chug disturbing.
Zlatko legendo
I’d buy that in a heartbeat 😆
This please.
Or maybe “lack of chug distorting” ?
I’ll take a large 100% cotton or a medium blended please.
So that's how Eddie's tone got it's "Brown Sound" name.
Not true. Eddie was referring to Alex's thick snare tone when coined the term "Brown Sound".
He's been misquoted ever since. Even by himself.
Harvester Of Tone not true the brown sound is a reference to the fact that van halen is shit

What about the Boss Metalcore? It was featured on a previous Will It Chug and it sounded absolutely killer, and it has 'Metal' in its name.
