    I'm guessing the "heavy" and "heavier" designation is just meant for you to be able to get two tones out of one unit that you can easily switch between. Which is a great feature.

    • @EnterJustice

      Yes. There's no difference between both sides, other than the '-ier'.

    • @666Castor666
      @666Castor666 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      There's definitely more saturation and compression on the "heavier" side. It's what Ola calls "mushier". The "heavy" side is more defined and less complex. That's why it's better in chugging and rhythm.

    • @JubbyDubbis
      @JubbyDubbis 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When I have this on my board I use the "Heavy" side as a slight breakup tone. Then the heavier side is my heavy rhythm tone. (I'm a rhythm player so I don't often utilize a "lead tone") Well, lead tone I use is an octave tone with a lot of delay and reverb.

      @diegorivera8835 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I actually just bought the G3 and the G4 and compared it to my Empress Distortion and the Empress had a much heavier sound. The Revv pedals are very mid present pedals but I didn’t hear the right cut that the Empress gave me. This Empress Heavy circuit would basically then blow the Revv Pedals away.

    Killer sounding pedal!! Sounds like a cascading gain structure

  • @cam-inf-4w5
    @cam-inf-4w5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would describe the gain as a crunch but with a warm buttery blanket just over the top. A blanket typically sounds cheap or foggy but its like JUST tamed enough to be tight and just warm enough to be dark and heavy. Its almost a sophisticated sound but its knarly its got so much gain. Its a strength dex build lol. A good bold powerban. Doesnt do muddy bass or piercing dry airy gain but no one really wants that anyway. It gives you as much as you can get from both while keeping it all together. Its one of those that just sounds good. If you arent in the mood to try and pair up a bunch of weird stuff and youre trying to have your playing be the interesting thing and you need a great straight tone to express your unique mote choices. Kinda like keep it simple stupid. But theres so many options to shape that good strong sound too. Its not like "which is better and which is unusable" its like "which good tone do you want cuz we got both"

    • @cam-inf-4w5
      @cam-inf-4w5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love that its not fizzy. Its thick and broken up but like he said not actually the chunkiest. The...crackle of distortion here is a great middle ground. Its not tv static or magma but its like that thundercloud low crackle if that makes sense.

    Ola! As someone who's only listening to this video, the Empress Heavy sounds really nice!

    I think that you would be that more impressed if you had tried to play a little bit with the weight knob, it can make the sound even more chugy! 😊 But, all in all, I'm glad that you got the chance to review it in your show. I've been using it for 4 years now, really happy with it (in front of the amp and in the FX loop as well).

      Sorry for being late to the party, but I too have the "heavy empress" on my board and I wholeheadtedly agree with you on this point. Works best with 4 cable connection :)

    Empress customer service is top notch. I had to send a pedal back and they had it sent there and back in less than a week.

    I'm watching this series from a playlist (btw Ola, I think you need to update it), and the previous one somehow was "The PANASONIC S5: A STRANGE but POWERFUL Camera" from Gearld Undone channel...

    Would love to see all those Devices in a little Mix. Don't need to be long and can be the same DI and Bass and Drum for every Decice. Would be very nice to compare all of the devices. But anyway very nice content. Keep it coming.

    Link sent to ny band using this pedal in a live band setting. Going through a cheap Kustom 200 watt head and Line6 412 cab. Sounds pretty good

    Right on Ola, throwing a Canadian company some love. Yes I agree, a proper demo.
    I think they do make just the heavy side, but it's just called distortion.
    You should check out the Multi Drive, very cool, and it will chug.

    Love this series. Please do the Fulltone OCD. Its a heavy overdrive 'almost' distortion which might be chuggable in the right hands.

    Hi Ola!! Huge fan. You should do a demo of the ISP Theta preamp pedal. Not the DSP one, the analog one. Absolutely monstrous preamp.

    great pedal , worth the money. I have one myself and run it through a orange crush pro and it makes my $450 head sound like a much more expensive tube head.

    Hell yeah that tone is amazing. You may have already done it, but would it be possible to make a video on the tips and tricks for mic placement/mixing and master EQing for guitar tracks? When you switched mid frequencies on the pedal I thought "Oh, less 500 kills some of the boomyness and 2k restrains some of the fizz." I'd love more tips for stuff like that in metal guitars.

  • @louaguado995

    2 channels and sweepable mids. That alone is nice. But the sound? Love it! Wishing you would have tried it into the effects return to bypass the amps preamp
