I'm regularly working on self directed compassion and when I start to yawn to the point my jaw hurts, cry, hiccuping, burping, get gas, I know that the self treatment hit the soft spot. Singing helped me to go through a lot of though times.
@@hmmcinerney oh, believe me, they are. I'm singing in a mix generation choir. We are singing at masses, different cultural events, we sing at funerals, weddings, you name it. Many members had difficult times and we helped them get on their feet with participating at practicing, organizing casual meetings after the practice so we talked a little, cried, drank a glass of wine and ate a good food. So yeah, choir is cleaning the soul and helping in therapeutic way both, those who listen and those who sing.
I've had anaphylaxis and now get a lot of anxiety over whether I can breathe. My stomach gets super tense, and I can't find the right muscles to belly breathe because everything is clenched so hard. I think the sniffing/laughing trick might really help me with that! And I am using those calm down buttons in my ears regularly. Thank you so much. 💜💜💜
Really appreciate for doing this calming technique video, it really helpful for my anxiety and insomnia especially through your gentle voice , thanks 🙏 !
I appreciate that yoo speak in a soft voice and get right into the subject...then broaden to hoyse keepung briefly and then go deeper into the subject. Very, very nice transitions. Wonderful video. Very heloful. Thank you.
1- Laughter and even fake laughter. Find something that makes you laugh everyday. 2- Deep breathing. Engage the diaphragm. Exhales should be longer than our inhales. The 4/8/7 breath. Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 8 sec, exhale for 7 sec. 3- Humming/chanting. 4- Gargling. It activates our vocal cords which stimulates the vagus nerve. 5- Singing: in the shower, while cooking, while taking a walk. 6- Pet connection (your own or someone else's) 7- Yawning. 8- Mindful Eating: to be present with our food.
Very helpful tips. Every time you said "yawn" I did! I've never noticed that before. Thank you for walking us through this with such a calming presence :)
I really enjoyed your videos and your calming voice. The methods work very fast. I look forward to using them. I sent them to my daughter to help with stress. Thank you so much!
Thank you, Kyle, for this helpful video! It’s always helpful to have more tools in my toy chest for addressing the autonomic dysfunction that is part of the Long Haul COVID healing for millions of people in North America.
I just found your videos n found it very helpful. I didn’t know all these chronic sickness I was having was caused by my vagus nerve. Trying all your technics today. Thank you Kylie. Much love to you ❤️
Cyclic sighing is also very effective for calming down and can be combined with the deep breathing technique in the video to enhance it to another level. All you have to do is take another small inhale after finishing the slow inhale.
IS it important to differentiate between stimulating vagus nerve and calming vagus nerve as far as exercises? Some of these seem directed at stimulation, bit confused.
Does the exercises help with really bad pains in front of head ? I’m looking up that link you sent me. My doctors here are no help at all. They don’t even know a lot about TBI ‘s and then environmental toxic exposures. I’m going to try the exercises soon. I can barely function from the pain. Your a Blessing Kyle
Vagus nerve is the roadway to our soul. When activated we feel our capacity to live and love our life. When you laugh it’s a full true feeling that brings relief to built up stress and is a pressure release. When we meditate we are stimulating the Vagus Nerve.
Very interesting. When I was a little girl, I used to have my father rub my ear. It just made me feel so good and I can relax and everything. I don't know how I got onto that at all, but I did, and I would ask him if he would rub my ear, and he would usually say yes. Suffer with Gastro paresis and I'm trying different things to help. I read where the vagus nerve activates the stomach's ability to empty, I sure am hoping it works because I am in a lot of pain and nausea. Thanks I will let you know if ot helps. If nothing else, I helps it helps the accompanying anxiety.
Thank you for making the Vagus Nerve important. It is very new in relation to other forms of calming oneself and more attention to it is needed. This VEGAS girl is happy to see the VEGUS nerve talked about more. Badumbum! 😊 Hope you got a good laugh from my help with your dad jokes! 😊 Thank you for your wonderful contributions to psychology, mental health and the brain being physical and the physical affected by the mental coming from the mind, and vise verse. The mind is our self talk. The brain is our body talk, both one, both the same and both need care for our whole to be healthy! ❤
@calmwithkyle Thank you so much for your videos and I was curious if there are some books you can recommend? Anything about somatic healing and or polyvagal is appreciated. Thank you kindly!
You're welcome :) Hmm, good question. An informative one is "The Body Keeps the Score" - by Bissel Vander Kolk. Gabor Mate also has several excellent reads.
If I can improve my vagus nerve will it also help with my digestion, I have IBS. No doubt that my vagus nerve is messed up because of heart palpitations and many other symptoms.
Research shows the Vagus Nerve link to digestion, so potentially yes, and, ruling out other medical issues. This is a really good question to bring to your doctor.
I was told to do this daily by my therapist. One week in and I’m still not ok….will this eventually help me? I’m so scared of all the symptoms I’m experiencing from the anxiety 😢
Research shows that Mindfulness practice can potentially facilitate these experiences and it is to be practiced with a certified mindfulness teacher and/or certified coach.
Can stress or anxity make you feel like youre legs are numb or youre skin is burning? Are these symptoms of vagus nerve? I have major stress and anxity
Potentially. Always best to check with your doctor first. But anxiety can manifest in our body as physical symptoms. I'll do a video in the future about this. Thank you!
My wife sent this to me. I lost 1/2 my voice from surgery they say from damaging the Vagus nerve. I wish I could sing or hum but that doesn't work with me. I have been doing acupuncture and medical massage with little change. Any advice on a voice loss via Vagus nerve? I will try what I have heard on this. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, not specific advice. That being said, maybe check out some of my other Vagus nerve videos, they have specific exercises that target the Vagus Nerve and don't require voice. All the best!
Calm with Kyle. I had to stop at 5 bc they are the worst 5 I have ever heard of. Whoever these work on Bro, must be low level traumatized people. Good Grief.
Unfortunately, the stuff that makes me genuinely laugh is usually at the expense of some stranger being filmed as they are losing their shit or falling down.
