@@LucianDevine Not really that gutsy when he's going in to this race knowing he's at a skill deficit. If you know the other player is better than you, your best chance of winning is to rely on luck. It's not gutsy to go for the strategy that gives you the highest odds of winning.

Can we take a moment to appreciate SmallAnt's storytelling ability? I mean, c'mon. I could watch these videos over and over again and still be on the edge of my seat.
Smants on-the-fly strategising is absolutely unreal. He's often not as honed at any of these games as other big speedrunners, but he is seriously the example of guile and speed of wit over raw experience with a game. It is untrue how, given an unknown version of the game, strategies he's never heard of, pokemon he's not sure about, he's able to make tactical decisions which are often even supposedly 'non-optimal' in a full-time speedrunner's eyes, to outpace his opponent. Something special about that mind.
I remember seeing his nomination for best speedrunner a while back, and this is exactly one of the reasons I thought he deserved top spot. Just as a really funny streamer/TH-camr can make any game enjoyable to watch, Smallant can make any run enjoyable because he's incredibly creative and good at strategising on the spot. I think that's quite unique among most speedrunner videos, and it's always fascinating to watch how he pulls through each time.

There should be a race battle Royale where 9 runners are playing at the same time, and the last one to finish each badge gets knocked out. Everyone waits until the next to last person finishes to leave the gym so that there's no huge lead by the end. Could be really fun content.
this really solidifies my theory that pokemon wouldve been way better off if they'd just stuck to roughly gen 5 era pixel art and just slowly mastered the art and explored just how much pixel art is capable of doing, all these designs i used to dislike are so cute, now, and it would have possibly solved the whole underlying problem of pokemon games needing to be onwards compatible leading to a compounding problem that crippled sword and shield

I love how for some reason in this kind of videos at some point the race becomes a contest of who can bluff harder.
One has to also remember that May had a Jirachi the entire time. Every time Ant fought her, he'd get a massive Experience boost from that alone.
