1960 Fury Project! Part 23

  • HI! We're back with Part 23 of the Fury rebuild! This time we'll be getting some dents out of the trunk lid, finishing up the welding around the windshield opening, and then we'll be getting into the floor repairs in the front... I knew the Dart needed some work in this area, so I guess I'd better get the last of the welding underway so we can start the fun stuff!
A new feature this week: "Lite Hits"! Just a look at the winter beater project I have going this year: A totaled Volvo S90. We'll be putting this car together in a short series that should end with me having a presentable car for winter duty!
I also decided to polish the body of the Formula Ford Lotus 51c, so I'll go over the process and we can have a look at the results. Dave is coming to stripe and letter the car tomorrow, so I will definitely try to film some of that, too!
Thanks to everyone who subscribed to our channel here, and thanks also for all of your "likes" and comments! We do appreciate that anyone would take the time to leave us a note. If you would like to help keep our channel going, you can get a sticker or a hat or a coffee mug at:

Or, please feel free to check out our Patreon page at :

Just wondered if you ever tried any of the paintless dent removing pullers? I know you are doing a repaint but it might be a good place to try something new. I am sure with the number of cars you have own that it would be a handy skill to master.

Hi again Scott. I just want to commend you for restoring the Fury. Fixing everything with what you have. Mostly junk scrap, saved from the crusher. Its truly amazing, (meaning years of sporadic hard work)! Excellent, watching you perform magic on that old Plymouth. Thanks Again! Helluva nice job on the trunk lid. Loved Deano removing the Plymouth script. My heart was pounding. God, I LOVE THAT CAR!. The invicta hub caps would look really nice on the Fury. I couldnt believe it when you stated you were colour blind. But then, im thinking, hey seeing everything in black and white is perfect for doing bodywork. So in retrospect, id have to say youre gifted! You are truly gifted in more ways than one. Your normal everyday same old shit is your gift to us utubers. THE COLD WAR RAGES ON!!! P.S. i like the vulva, i mean volvo!

When Dean goes fast talk i have to go back and replay cos i sort of get what he is talking about but sometimes i need a couple of listens to make sure i am on the right page or at least the same book. That Volvo is the last of the models before they started using the same wind tunnel programmes as every other brand and got all soft and curvy like every one else. The patience and restraint shown when removing a dent is a classic examp[e of proceeding at a slow hurry.

Hey! The '60 Plymouth is getting there! Yeah, more welding, but this car has some years on it....You have the knowledge and skill to make it even better then new!!!
That Volvo "beater" will be showroom condition once you finish it! As you say, you'll "sort it out" and "tidy it up" in no time....It'll look TOO good to use as a beater...
The Lotus is looking GREAT!!! Top notch!!!
I see Frankers likes to stay in the loop, inspecting as you move along!!!!
    Looking great!!!!
Seeing it snowing so early in Canada must mean it's coming down here soon...
I don't like winter, but we do what we have to do.....I can hardly wait to see the 'Plymouth painted up.......And the Volvo repair done, the Lotus also......Stay well, stay safe.....

All right - no hosers, no half-burgers...Just the simple brilliance that makes this episode of "Paint Proficiency & Metalworking Magic" the hit sensation that it is. And would you look at that - Dean has made another appearance, throwing in on trunklid dent sanding, cleaning wheels & mounting tires for a "Greasy Flip", lending a steady hand on the recording action, & making Ms. Francine's day. Cheers, Dean! Speaking of recording - someone's going to have to make a shield for the camera, because grinding sparks are not necessarily something they test the cameras with back at the assembly plant...it still works well enough to show how much work Scott has yet to give his labor of love(floor-pan repairs).
Hey, Scott - are you sick of welding on this yet?
After I've been escorted off the premises, (not yet, but I'm sure that'll happen if I ever have the chance to go somewhere there's MORE snow than at my home, & probably because I asked the previous question, lol) the Fury Whisperer will turn his attention to the beautifully painted Lotus body, the repairs for the Fury, & the latest feature: "Lite Hits"! I'm not surprised that someone would say: "Hey - I've got a great winter beater for you! It just needs a little work..." One thing I will say about Canadian insurance (& I'm by no means an expert), they are apparently tougher than their American counterparts. They called that car a total - while American insurance would say that's repairable. In this case, they are right...Scott's already done 75-80% of the work in a short period of time, & I bet the car will be as solid as a bank vault shortly thereafter. Another Saturday afternoon going out on a high note - thanks to #coldwarmotors!
Gentlemen, I yield back my time. :)

Wonderful episode, that stainless dent removal sure is cool, well everything you do is cool!
Mercury Bobcat... wow I had not thought of that in, well since forever! How about the 1971-’75 Ford Maverick Grabber?
Would anyone admit to watching Heartland? That's shot next door to you isn't it? lol I actually like that show

A truly gifted individual where metal work is concerned. I've never been able to master the heat for welding.
If you like a Swiss cheese profile, I'm your guy. I've spent my life working with steel plate 1/4" & up.
Not a problem. Just crank up the heat selector to:
    HOTTER -N- HELL
and let 'er fly. Same goes for aluminum or stainless trim.. By the time I got done, you would have a lifetime supply of .005 shim stock on a roll. Eleventyfive & 31/64" long.
Trim to desired width. 😣 great show Man !!!! Glad I found the right place to hang out & Mabe learn something.

Saw a guy doing stainless repair once. He chucked a stainless bumper bolt into a drill press. He used the handle to press out the dents ( the drill press was not on, mind you ). This worked well for smooth dents, but for crinkles, the hammer and punch routine was the answer. I think he used a lead billet under the trim to keep from marring the workpiece..

I love this show. I started working in an autobody shop at 19 years of age...im 41 now. Run my own small buis now....mostly car lot work though. Anyways love the variety here as always....its interesting seeing how others do ther sand&buff process. I just hand sand em with 2k an buff with a wool pad with meguiars 100 compnd....meg 105 on foam...205 on foam and if dark blue or black 3m blue an fine foam pad final step. Wouldnt it be nice if replacement panels came anywhere even close to fitting? Mabye in heaven they will..... Id like to see a lil speacial side deal showing all yer automobilia again actually......youv got a ton of unique&cool automobilia postors an advertisements....i bet youv got a ton of cool automobilia nic nacs parts etc also seeing the plastic models are cool.....wen i get time..."rarely" i still enjoy building plastic kits

My mom had a Bobcat and then a Lynx when I was a kid. Amazingly I'm still here but I'll never forget those vinyl seats and metal belt buckles on a hot summer day. Damn those things left marks like you were being branded. I mean it was also the 80's and I shorts on there were much shorter than today's standards of cut offs at the knees.

@@paulstandeven8572 My brother had a pinto wagon. He let me drive it. It wasn't bad. It didn't drive as well as the Vega, but it was certainly more durable.

I went to school with this 300 pound girl who drove a Bobcat. Ironically, it was the door pull in my car that she pulled off. Though, to be fair, a Sunbird really wasn't any better built than a Bobcat.
