- Fourth Generation Hybrid Drive System
Not to be outdone by its gasoline siblings, the ES 300h is capable of delivering exceptional fuel efficiency, responsive performance and minimal emissions for an entry-level luxury sedan. A new, fourth-generation Hybrid Drive System couples an ultra-efficient, Atkinson cycle 2.5-liter, four-cylinder gas engine with a lighter, more compact, more power dense electric motor and self-charging hybrid system. Together they deliver a combined 215 total system horsepower and a preliminary estimate of 44 mpg in combined driving.
An all-new engine, the 2.5-liter four-cylinder incorporates fast-burn combustion technology that makes it one of the most thermally efficient engines ever offered in a Lexus. The result is more power without increasing emissions or fuel consumption. Various methods were used to achieve such impressive results including straight intake ports, increased valve angles and laser-clad valve seats. A variable capacity oil pump, multihole injectors, VVTi-E on the intake valves and a variable cooling system also contribute to the engine’s impressive heat and combustion management.
Overall drivability of the ES 300h has been improved thanks to a more sophisticated hybrid system control computer that is better able to mimic the feel and power delivery of a standard gas engine. An all-new nickel metal hydride battery is smaller than before which allows it to be mounted underneath the back seat so it doesn’t infringe on trunk space.

I owned 2015 rc 350 and now at 65k km and still at its best. No complains so far nd becomes my daily drive.
It’s crazy that you can display art by driving it. This car is art. It’s a really pretty car and the fact that you can have reliability with this is crazy. Plus, it looks JUST like the LS which is their top of the line sedan. I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but I like to look at my car and just admire the work that went into creating it...

Steve Printy He has no “automotive authority” in my eyes and I’m not sure what qualifies him. It’s a very attractive car and has strong lines that much of the car industry has... not to mention the interior is amazing.

Good grief, there seems to be a lot of Lexus haters running around this blog. I've owned three and have no complaints. I guess if you can't afford one, then the default is to insult, whine and complain about it. Oh, and just for the record, both Toyota and Lexus are always at or near the top of automotive reliability ratings by all who do this type of research.

I don't get it either. I've had 2, they were excellent. My current toyota prius just passed 277k not even the slightest problem. Obviously the 1st battery eventually went bad but it was changed for free, just a hair before the warranty expired :D

I still have 2008 350 ES, running perfect with over 160k miles, this is a very reliable car, and for the record I live in the middle East with average temperature of 90F to 100F all year, that means more pressure on the vehicle.

Kevin Morga It's simple. They don't offer DCTs at all, turbo engines are almost no-existent (they begin to slowly change it recently), the engines range is very limited and in most cases they are slow compared to competitors, AWD only comes with 6 speed auto, no cabrios/hatchbacks/liftbacks/station wagons, no diesels, etc. Not to mention, Toyota/Lexus have the shortest periodic service intervals among car manufacturers (5000 km).

The horizontal line separating the bonnet from the grille is distracting. They should just have extended the bonnet to overlap onto the grille

Prefer rear wheel drive. At the end of the day this is a front wheel drive Camry with an L logo and leather seats and an upgrade in sticker price. Prefer Mercedes Benz C class if you gonna spend money on a car beyond 25 to 30K for a Camry IMO.

To be honest, this new generation is far better than the old one but why the fuck they didn't put USB-C port instead of the old USB ports! all new phones accept USB-C ports and it charges faster than USB. iPhone 8 and iPhone X as well the future seems to adapt the USB-C not the USB!
Do you sell the car wishing us to be outdated 1 or 2 years later? 2018 Mercedes Sprinter got USB-C and that is a bus not an individual car. That's totally a bad idea to keep the normal USB ports. at least let USB-C in front and USB in the rear.
They are keeping lots of features for the next face lift!

Sorry, I can't see this as a GS replacement. GS always looked like a "Sport" designed vehicle. But I would indefinitely choose this new ES over that horrendous looking Avalon....I'm hopeful that Lexus keeps the GS around and seriously listened to the people and really improve on the looks and performance that it so lacks. As for this ES, beautiful vehicle but I would NEVER choose it over a GS (would love to drive it soon though). I'm in the works to leasing a Dark Grey 2018 GSF. Possibly my last Lexus(apart from my LFA) if GS production really is no more.
As a Toyota fan, I'd rather get the Genesis G70 with its Brembo brakes, punchy twin turbo 6 cylinder, all wheel drive with rear bias, and every single amenity including heated REAR seats and a heated steering wheel and cooled seats etc.
