But this one latch broke yesterday when I took my 3ds apart and I need it for the top display to work.. any Idea where I can get an extra one?
Did the latch break or the connector itself? You can get an entire connector on AliExpress, but you would need to solder it to the motherboard. If you just damaged the latch (and the connector is still fine) you can buy an entire connector and harvest its latch.
@@neotil1 Turns out I was able to get it in and then hold it in place at the bottom while I pushed back against the top. The hinge isnt there to hold it but it but it doesnt seem to move at all and has been working so far. as for the volume ribbon cable, I couldnt manage to solder it down onto the 4 contacts without them touching so I tried taking the connector off to run a wire toeach hold it went in, and this pcb is oddly sensitive to heat and decided to become a lake for solder to live in. It took a while of scratching to get rid of the solder connecting everything since the ds had some sort of protection to not turn on (Im a little confused how that happened since the volume slider is basically 500-0 ohms and it still lets u turn on if you have your volume max) but afterwards I cut the 3.5mm jack off of some really really old ipod headphones to use a a mute for the speakers, and I usually have the volume max when I want to use headphones, so its really just the built in speakers that are irritating at max volume. However, my clamp broke in half on my larger fdc connecter, so I'll try to put it back as it is within a day or 2, (perhaps within 2 weeks) so for my gratitude, I'll share a eBay search where it has some of the fdc connectors for the New Nintendo 3ds Xl: the item is searched as "2 X For Nintendo New 3DS XL LL LCD Display Screen Flex Connector Plug Power" This may prevent you from buying a whole donor motherboard.
You're the damn coolest, replying to every comment! I have a N3DS (OG, not XL) that has broken latches for the home button and the touchscreen. Since new motherboards of the OG N3DS are pretty much impossible to find, I was wondering the the latch of the connectors from the N3DSXL would fit on the N3DS's board. Thanks in advance, man!
Wait, you mean the New 3DS, right? The Old (some people call it OG) 3DS has the home button soldered on haha) The touch latches are all the same, but the n3DS models both have these weird connectors for the home button that don't latch up at all. They can't be replaced like in this video, they have to be soldered.
@@neotil1 @3DS Repairs Haha, that's right! I meant the N3DS. The touchscreen seems fairly straightforward to fix, as the ZIF connectors are sold online by themselves. The home button on the other hand I don't know how it could be fixed, other than some homemade solution like tape or hot glue.
Yeah, the home button needs constant downward pressure to function. Hot glue etc. won't work... Yes, but it's 10x easier to either fix the existing connector or solder a new one in place. Soldering a tiny ribbon cable is only possible with good tools, years of soldering experience and lots of patience.
Any tips on getting it back on? You did it in one fell swoop and it's eating away at my sanity everytime I try... I'm worried that I'll bend the pins, and also the clamp keeps falling off of my tweezers
