  • This video shows how you can replace the latch for the 4 pin socket connector used in all Nintendo DS, DSi, 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, NEW 3DS, NEW 3DS XL, NEW 2DS and NEW 2DS XL consoles, with no soldering required. These sockets are used for holding the ribbon cable for the touch screen, circle pad, microphone and 3d in these consoles. In this video I am working on a NEW 3DS console and the socket with the broken latch is for the touch screen. This is the easiest method for replacing these and anyone can do this repair with only a couple tools that are inexpensive to own.

    Same connector is used for the Wii U pad touch screen. Was able to fix it by following this video. Thanks! Lesson learnt. I'm going to be very careful with these latches from now on. Should have worked under a microscope from the start. Takes me 2 minutes to set things up...

      Glad you found this video helpful and were able to fix it the easy way. Using a microscope is definitely the way to go for these kind of repairs.

    Thanks for the vid. My latch popped off when I was removing my circle pad from my N2DSXL. In hindsight I don’t think it was broke but I thought I could just pop the latch back on but I wound up breaking it like that. Found this video afterwards. I got my replacement from a 2 pack on Amazon for $6 or so. Was fortunately able to get it on the first try thanks to your help!!!

      Either take it to someone who can solder a replacement connector, or do it yourself. If any of the pins break, you're pretty much screwed.

    Hi! I made a mistake by accidentally braking the whole connector, not just the latch. Where would I need to go to get it re soldered, or can I send it to you? Thanks. (It’s the ribbon cable connecter for the home button so the console currently won’t turn on.)

      I am not currently able to accept consoles being mailed to me for repair. I would look locally and see if there is anyone who does this kind of repair. Are you sure its the home button and not the power button? I am not aware of a 3DS that needs the home button to power on. Which console is it?

      It’s the regular 2ds model. I’m not very knowledgeable about this sort of stuff, but, the ribbon cable latch connector thats on the motherboard for the home button is broken off. I don’t really know what treatment the console needs, but I assume it would need a replacement connector or for the broken one to be re soldered. Let me know your thoughts, thanks.

    how mich did you heat those pins up? it looks like they have been heated up to a very soft degree. am I correct, or is the fact this is so small deceiving me?

      Pins were not heated. There would be no reason to do that unless you planned on removing the connector and replacing it. I do not know the history of the console though and far as I can tell it was opened and someone messed with that connector which is why the top pin was already bent and the latch was broken.

      @@Tzirf ok, so it must have been the fact that this was a hyper up close zoom in of a super small part that was throwing me off making it look like it was a really soft metal. Really is somethin trippy.

    Hello, Where did you purchase the ribbon cable latch? plssssss

    • @Tzirf
      @Tzirf  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I purchased the a entire socket off Amazon. I removed the latch from the replacement socket I purchased and used it in the console. However there are different versions of the socket. If you are doing a repair on a NEW Nintendo 3DS you need the 4 pin Touch Screen Ribbon Socket. Make sure the latch matches your design in the console. If you cannot find it on Amazon I recommend checking Aliexpress. Cheers
