I don't know what's more amazing: That the previous owner managed to cause so much damage to the connectors, and as a result fried the motherboard, I assume, or that they still had the guts to ask so much for it, despite knowing full well how bad it is inside.
I just got a lot with 3 "faulty" ps3s. They all work but only one has no HDMI. Physically fine but if the silicon image bga chip needs to be replaced meeh
The shell said "3DS LL" which is the Japanese version of the XL. Looks like someone got a cheap LL system from Japan and attempted a reshell with an American console. Still pretty awesome, though.
I love how you explain the financial side of your repairs. For someone starting out it's easy to forget about shipping, fees, parts, equipment. Also keeping in my own skill level when looking for deals.
This is a cheap Aliexpress shell that someone tried reshelling their 3DS to and broke the device. You can tell that the font is off on the back covers.
Ya, this was a failed reshell. The Pikachu edition is the most available new 3ds xl shell, I also assume it's not an official part. Ya you got screwed there.
This is my go to youtube channel for all of my Console related problems. Havent needed to buy a new controller yet, ive just been fixing them thanks to these videos
Mr fix it at his best, dude you're a amazing technician and my hats off to you for being a self taught repair man. There's not many people who has your talent and skill so please keep up the awesome work and I promise to keep coming back for more and sharing your video's with as many people as I possibly can because you definitely deserve all the exposure that you can get. 🤟😎👍
Someone has noticed that he puts the power board upside down at 8:56, at the beginning of the video the ribbon is with the part inclined downwards but in this test it is the opposite to see the lights, that's why the other fuse breaks once more
gotta love when newbies try to case mod their systems after watching 1 TH-cam video. they often don't realize just how fragile the connectors are or how to properly ground themselves to prevent potential damage to the components.
It's nice to see a video that's not all sunshine and rainbows! But whoever put that one together like that has no business touching electronics! Keep up the good work!
Do show us more details & give us more information when you're soldering or changing parts on the motherboard!! Been here for sometime, love to learn the details!!
Nice fix and great looking 3DSXL. Indeed still wondering what caused the shortage of the chip and if reheating and placement of the chip would fix it or maybe reballing. Have a good one Steve
great upload. was nice to see a device that truly needed to be worked on. the seller was right to let it go, that wasn't something they could've fixed themselves.
From experience, no power no charge is typically caused by bad battery connector or bad battery. I suppose emmc could have something to do with the no power, but probably has nothing to do with no charge .. unless it had a major dead short. Great video yet again Steve. Good work investigating!!
I never comment on this channel but I have to say all your videos are amazing. I’m always intrigued on how people fix any type of issue with devices. Continue the work up. Have a nice day!!😊
I think you were reading a short to ground on the charging ic because you had the power board attached upside down compared to the motherboard when you were testing at 9:37. So the ribbon cable was installed correctly on the battery side, but not the motherboard side. Nice job getting it fixed though!
I haven't watched your videos in about a year but randomly I got the urge tonight to rewatch you fix 20+ Nintendo switches. Making sure to subscribe this time so I don't miss anymore content!
Usually I don't really like hardware and other other stuff colored bright yellow, but that 3DS is actually so cool-looking I wouldn't actually mind owning one.
I am a Pokemon handheld collector and got this new 3ds xl on ebay with original packaging for a fixed price of 203 € direct from japan and the best. The shipping was free and even without toll. I was very happy about the bargain because it is as good as new and the original packaging is undamaged and looks as if I had just bought it in the store.
Wow I saw the same exact listing and I was tempted to buy it thinking it would just be a battery problem! I don't know how to solder or anything so glad I dodge that.
Glad you were able to fix it! I wish the eBay seller bribed you with The rest of the packaging being snacks. We were actually finally able to fix our right Nintendo switch joy con SL and SR buttons and the lights.
Have you ever thought of live streaming your fixes? Or maybe having a second channel where you post unedited videos? I personally would be interested in seeing everything you do in real time regardless if you've shown a fix before. I think it'd also be great if you streamed since you could answer questions live.
Seller: "broken, damaged, doesnt charge, use for part only and possible horcrux for the queen of england" TronicsFix: "Lets see if i got ripped off" 😂😂
I might mention it at some point but it's sort of a hot topic with some people. I don't ground myself...ever...with what I'm working on. Nothing I work on is that sensitive. Some people insist that I should be grounded.
@@Tronicsfix Okay, I learnt a little to late and didn't ground myself when DIY my laptop, look forward to that video someday. Stay Safe and Stay Blessed
Wow, I bought this model refurbished from Gamestop 2 years ago for $100, so it's good to see that it's worth something now. My version says XL, not LL, so presumably it's the US version, and it's not missing any of the screw covers, so I'm hoping it wasn't just reshelled. However, mine has a black border on the upper screen instead of a yellow border. Does this mean that the screen has been replaced?
Sorry to ask but can you put another 5 videos out right away....lol. I have re-watched you entire video library here on TH-cam. LMAO This was another great video Steve, TY for sharing! :)
I bought my new 3DS for, i guess $170 back then it was a Fire Emblem one, i also bought a glossy case for it to avoid scratches n stuff, however, now that i think of it i haven't played with it much since last year despite that i have tons of games in there
I fix Nintendo consoles over on Instagram. I don't use TH-cam because I would need to edit my videos on Linux, and most if not all of the video editing platforns are MacOS or Windows based. Anyways, what I've found is a lot of questionable 3DS hardware on eBay. I see a number of consoles stitched together from broken parts, and many botched repairs, especially broken ZIF sockets. The new 3DS XL and 2DS XL are especially fragile. I prefer to work on the "classic" 3DS XL. I really love working on this console. If you're careful about the ribbon cables, it's pretty easy to fix any problem. Repair parts have gone up significantly in price, though. One thing I'd like to note. That console is actually a 3DS LL, and the motherboard is region locked to Japan. So even if you fixed it you could only play Japanese 3DS games. Regular DS games are not region locked. You actually upgraded that console to the US version, maybe without knowing it. * Of course you can always hack region locking, but I wouldn't do that to anything I'm going to sell.
This made me a feel a lot better about recently paying 360 usd for authentic solgaleo x lunala new 3ds xl especially the limited 3ds they will only continue to skyrocket in value
Thank you for posting such great videos! You are very interesting and entertaining to watch during these hard times. And what i love the most is you are not fake and you know what you're doing! :))
Oh you scared me...Fathersday in Germany were already and i really got skeptical. :D Nice work and save again and i love the style of this 3DS. Greets from Germany!
I've put mine back together wrong and it caused no power, did the same thing with the top screen cable, having it upside down. Flipped it back and it powered right up which was interesting
I have a 2ds xl because it was cheaper and plus I don’t care for 3d anymore plus the game card slot is next to the micro ssd card reader so it’s protected by a cover to prevent the game card from comming out
Hey man! Loving the videos! I actually just got myself a parts 3Ds XL as I was inspired by you to try and fix it up, please make more new 3DS XL repair videos so I can have a better shot at repairing it haha
This console is like one of my nightmares haha. Trying to buy broken consoles for repair, only to find that the previous owner also couldn't repair it, stripped it for parts, then sold the bare minimum to have plausible deniability by salvaging the battery, removable components, hardware, etc then listing it "as is"/for parts, don't know anything about it, blah blah. Not even worth risking imo
I have a new 3ds xl a normal blue one not an special edition, it works fine but the top screen is a bit bad in the edges it has a bit of black probably the screen has a tiny crack or something but it works fine, its just like 2 dots in 2 of the edges, they've told me that changing new 3ds xl screens is not as bad as 3ds xl or 3ds ones, one day i'll probably try changing it but right now the console works fine so i'm not gonna touch it
Hi TronicsFix i have the original ps4 ch 1116 and i want to clean it without broke anything can u do a tutorial how to clean the original ps4 ch 1116 without broke anything please and nice Video BTW💖💪
This is why you don't bring your broken console to the cheapest repairmen you can find. The original owner of the 3DS XL tried to find the cheapest repairman and that repairman didn't have any experience and broke it even further. The broken console was probably still sold for over $200, shame.
I don't know what's more amazing: That the previous owner managed to cause so much damage to the connectors, and as a result fried the motherboard, I assume, or that they still had the guts to ask so much for it, despite knowing full well how bad it is inside.
Steve sees a listing that says 'for parts' and thinks...."challenge accepted". Awesome video as always!

Yep as soon as I saw that 3DS LL on the back I was like uh-oh.
So for what LL standing for? I never see in my live

Yeah. There was no way this would be one of those “replace the battery and wham! Instant fixed” situation.
