skyrays give 3 seeker missiles per turn and have inherent markerlights and a couple of support weapons for 130pts. Piranhas give you a T7 hull with 2 seekers, 1 fusion gun and 2 drones for 55 pts and you can take upto 9 of them (3 sets of 3)

Mordian, I think you might have missed the fire warrior special rule Suppression Volley. If you hit a unit with an pulse rifle shot, until the start of your next turn that enemy unit is -1 to hit at range & in melee. It's very useful.

    A very interesting battle report.
I think the key takeaway here is that guard lists still need artillery.
Those stealth suits hid, then pop out and mark a unit for death.
A couple of FOBs would easily kill a stealth suit team. Maybe even two.
Sure, hitting on 5+, but those stealth suits are weak.
Guiding a unit and getting +1 BS, ignore cover and lethals is the reason why even a seeker missile did crazy damage.
Take away those guiding units, and you have a good chance.
Guard has access to cheap artillery. It's our main difference compared to other factions.
So every guard list should really have some.
Either two sets of FOBs or two Basilisks or a mortar pit.
It's an extremely valuable tool in the tool box.
Imagine if the guard player could delete two guiding units a turn with arty? This would have been a very different game.

I think that 3 mortars team would have been a bit helpful, but since the nerf, not that much.
matthamemering here a little bit for a mortar squad against stealtsuit/
      3D6 is 10.5shot on average
Hitting on 4+ IF ordered, 5+ if notbecause of infiltrator
      so 5.25 hit
Wounding on 3+ (T4 and F5) 3.5 wound on average.
      --- 3+ save so a bit less1.25 Wound per 3 Mortar ordered. ----
So on average, you would need 3 Mortar Team to kill one Stealth suit unit per turn.
It's decent honestly for 180 points of indirect fire.
      But
Basilisk then for 140 Pts then ?
1D6+3 shot is 6.5 on average.
Hitting on 4+ max w/out order so 3.25 shot are hitting it
Wounding on 2+ so +2.75ish wound (Damage 2) on average.
PA 2 BUT with cover so PA -1, making 4+ save for the stealthsuits.
      So... 1.37ish stelthsuit dead...
Mortar are still pretty good, but I think that you overestimate how impactful hitting on 4+ max is XD
Edit. I didn t do Bombast x2 (but the short of it is 0.7 unsaved damage 2 wound), and I maybe should have since they are more ok now than befor, but still, arty isn't as good as before AT ALL.
Edit 2. Mortar Math fixed :p
You would get slighty better result against Fireteam or breachers, but not much because of guardian drone.

    • @MrSniperbo
      @MrSniperbo 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@sircrim8694 Math hammer doesn't really work in a real game. You never roll average. You either roll higher or lower.
A Basilisk or bombast will kill a stealth suit per failed save.
Sure, hitting on a 4/5+, but then a Basilisk wounds on 2+, they get a 4+ save.
I would be pretty confident of a Basilisk killing 2/3 stealth suits per volley. Unless you roll poorly.
Math hammer is a guide, but not a realistic representation of what actually happens on the field.

    • @sircrim8694
      @sircrim8694 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@MrSniperbo my guy you could be confident about anything, but you would kill one on average w/out support, that's a hard fact, even though it's average.
My point about math here is simple, arty without support need to be done with saturation now, and Bombast w/out support are not very hot for their cost for exemple since it's only 2D6 AP 1 shot.
Math is a kind of truth when you roll dice, it's only here for you to have an idea of what might do your unit for their cost compared to other.
You're saying it's not a realistic representation, but it is though :o
it's the one most likely to happen, but yeah, your guts are certainly better don t worry
Edit make a big mistake on mortar since I'm an idiot, and damn, it's not glorious on small squad XD

    • @MrSniperbo
      @MrSniperbo 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@sircrim8694 A bombast should always have an order. Due to their special rule benefitting from it.
You incorporate the cost of an order, on top of the unit. Makes them on par with a Basilisk.
Math hammer and theory crafting only tells half the story in 40k.
After you play some games in the wild, you quickly discover that math hammer/theory is a bit useless.
The one thing you can guarantee is to not roll average.
You will either roll higher or lower.
All this 1.3 average damage is nonsense.
Every failed save, is one dead.
Arty is far more valuable than you think.
Guard players are making a big mistake by not bringing any.

19:55 strike teams and breachers don't need a marker drone, they have built in marker lights. Stick gun drones on them. Opposite to that, stealth suits badly need a marker drone since they're your best observers and don't come with the marker light keyword built in

as someone who recently went against Tau for the first time and this same detachment, I can feel Simons pain. all my vehicles were being popped left and right and he had so much speed that there was no where to hide, was playing dawn of war deployment and he boxed me in my deployment turn 1, spent most of the game just fighting to get out and by that time I had lost too much.
And in the end I was shocked at how cheap all of his units were, its just silly to be how powerful there stuff is for the cost, it was a very painful game to play.

  • @drbelanger73
    @drbelanger73 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I think the battle was a bit skewed. The narrative mine bit in the center is all well and good, but it illustrates why there is so much LOS blocking terrain. Simon was forced to play into a wide open middle and paid the price for it. The Tau had free range across the center of the board. Any shooting army with that sort of advantage is going to look good. I suspect a more sobering Tau experience on a standardized table.

  • @dominicl5862
    @dominicl5862 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

6:25 Pause. I actually cheered for Simon, let this man cook, give this man a mic, get this man a camera. I was like no way, Mordian's gonna base all the Rogal Dorn tankiness on it "weathering the storm" when he systematically destroyed his 6 chimeras hellhounds and lemon in the first 3 turns with all his positioning, 1 shot only weapons, imaginary 1 shot only weapons, etc. From the first turn MG was able to draw line of sight to most of his transports/tanks, plus he was Montka. A possible way Simon wins this one is being ultra aggressive. Im talking charging tanks turn 1, pure asset overload to get across the board, ofc losing many units along the way, however tying up Tau shooting and establishing himself on the objectives. He had 8 medium tanks and 3 heavy tanks against all that TAU firepower. It was definitely not a good matchup overall. ok I continue watching
25:28 Pause. Yes the key difference is Mordian "tee's up" "a little, tee'ing up" his units. They are supported, I wholeheartedly agree that the codex is flexing its strength, but keep in mind, this is against zen kai boosted Guard Index as well. And Simon's army benefited a lot from the update, he doesn't even run indirect units. And we saw the lethal hits in action against that first vehicle. So that's hubris for either of you to say Guard doesn't have supporting units or methods, its just Simon's army only had a bit. And the bit he DID have, he DIDN'T use. The big mech went down turn one and it took like all 3 tanks. Hot take: Fire hellhound first, his cover is gone, spend the 2cp you got in your turn for FoF, +1Ap, then fire the heavy bolter chimeras and benefit from AP -2 Ignoring cover, Sustained Hits, Lethal HIts Heavy bolters. All those 6's you roll pop off brother.
Way too many hard hot takes from this outlier of a game, guarantee a rematch with different board/mission would play very differently.

New Lord of Deceit (LOD) aura has raised some questions regarding are Stratagems played in the aura or when a unit is in reserve
    Example
    DENIZENS OF THE WARP
DAEMONIC INCURSION - STRATEGIC PLOY STRATAGEM
    WHEN: Your Movement phase.
    TARGET: One Legiones Daemonica unit
from your army that is arriving using the
    Deep Strike ability this phase.
EFFECT: Your unit can be set up anywhere
on the battlefield that is more than 3"
horizontally away from all enemy models.
RESTRICTIONS: A unit targeted by this
Stratagem is not eligible to declare a
    charge in the same turn.
Unlike a Stratagem such Rapid Ingress that specifically says
TARGET: One unit from your army that is in Reserves.
A number of Stratagems use the wording
TARGET ...unit from your army that is arriving using the
    Deep Strike ability this phase.
So does the LOD increase the CP of this stratagem if the unit is set up within 12" of the LOD?
    Views?

It feels like a guard army but with better army rules (Like you said, Guided unit are basically the stronger equivalent to take aim and the Lethal hits of Mon Ka doesnt discriminate unlike ours)
    BUT
With worse statliens/characteristics on the defensive side.
Basically, look at the hammerhead and the LR Vanquisher.
Same role, hammerhead shoot harder with his railcanon that the vanquisher cannon, 2 seeker missile Vs 1, 2" of extra mobility and more easy to "order'
    BUT
    T10 Vs T11
    3+ Vs 2+
Less guns, making the russ at the same, if not bettter, level of damage than the HH at the 2nd shooting phase.
For the guard, I would say that our greatest strenght against the Tau is infantry. Tau seems especially good at destroying tanks in many way (mass anti-tanks weapons) and they would struggle HARD against a mass infantry playstyle covering your heavy hitter. With the loss of reinforcement though, this is a bit less efficient since our screening unit can t revive more than one.

      Take cover - 7 casualty
      Krieg with 5+ FnP - 6-7 casualty
Krieg + FnP + Take cover - 5 casualty on average
So, for a squad of 3 crisis who can t wound correctly any tank, 10 casualty on the worst case (55-65ish points), this isnot that much

I have a friend who is a Tau player, he and I go to tournaments together! Mont'ka is indeed very scary to face down. Piranhas and Devilfish are the stars of the show in my opinion - 3 piranhas feels like a required investment.
The reason Devilfish are better than Tauroxes is because of Breachers, frankly. Breachers + a Cadre Fireblade is an infantry-obliterating level of firepower, enough to punch up against medium and even heavy infantry. The advance-and-drop allows for a devastating attack anywhere the Tau player chooses. Nothing really a Taurox can get that compares, and the Devilfish's weapons are much more similar to a Chimera than a Taurox.
