Best guard arty is in legends. I pisses me off that GW is still selling FOR PREMIUM PRICES a bunch of vehicles and units that they sent to legends. Wow can't make 6 more data sheets for premium resin but can have 8 space marine captain data sheets.
yeah i want to run a minotaur battery in my guard army
printer go brrr
armageddon medusa ftw.
The captains have different stats.
The artillery doesn’t. That’s a piss poor comparison
@@CMTechnica the arty definitely has different stats
Easy there Mordian. Pump the brakes. Two corrections:
1. Born Soldiers doesn't have an 18" range.
2. The Basilisk is now 140 points not 145.
Good video otherwise.
@@badrabbit9703 hearing that made go "wait what?" And immediately double check born soldiers.
I think he had a brain fart and confused conditions for born soldiers and for the scout sentinel's daring recon. That's just a theory though.
@@RyuUrami myself as well.
@@Amos-61 probably. This game has a ton of information to process. However, this channel informs a lot of new players, myself included. I would be remiss not to keep them up to date so they can make informed decisions about their lists and tactics.
Field Ordinance comes in the combat patrol, so if you're starting a new Guard army, that becomes a no-brainer.
Rule of cool, fobs win all day every day. Alternatively the kit can serve as two legends Thudd Guns for 100pts combined
the top guard artillery is the one that is the least used, because chances are, those models' rules wont be changed while other artilleries keep getting weaker, hence why the unused model got "buffed"
Great video as always, but Basilisks are 140 points, not 145
I played a game yesterday at 1,000 pts for my local league and I brought the FOB and it performed very admirably. Killed off some grots holding the home objective and then helped to whittle down some meganobz all while holding my home objective. They didn’t do insane amounts of damage but they scored me a lot of points over the course of the game.
Looks like a basilisk will get an average of 3.25 hits at s8 AP-2. An FOB is getting 4.66 hits (with take aim which will also give sustained) at s7 AP-1. The basilisk is tougher with a the nice movement debuff ability, where the FOB needs to use its ability to eke out another hit or two (at lower strength). Food for thought
I plan on going with 2 Medusa Carriage Batteries going forward with infantry, getting orders and strats, and with Demolisher LR just lob Demolisher Rounds directly at the enemy. Sounds fine to me
...the added range actually sold me on bask. They got to screen the rear after all. If the enemy can hide out of range, it's not really going to do the multitasking I demand.
I got a rather... aggressive army of kreig that gets a bit upset if I suggest anything but advancing directly towards the objective. They're quite adamant about soaking up enemy fire, and it's not easy getting them to agree to anything else. They already put those guys on bears wearing horse costumes.
im using the earthshaker carriage 120 point for the slow of the basilisk its really good for me
Agreed. It will be needing an order to hit on 4’s though
@@rollielc Or you can use the expert bombadiers strat.
@@rollielc it has heavy so unless you feel the need to move it, wont it be hitting on 4s? May be im missing some thing...
@@357Dejavu heavy will bring it to 4+ but then the indirect rule brings it back to 5+. Same with the FOB’s and mortars. If your main goal is to get the debuff and not necessarily the damage output, the carriage is the way to go. But for 20 points more you get better hits without an order, an HK, a heavy flamer/bolter and a tougher platform.
@@rollielc Ah I did miss some thing... Thanks!
Would love to know your thoughts on earthshaker carriages atm. Already taking Creed for another tactic, but I like that the carriages count as regiment units, so can also be ordered and reinforced if the opportunity arrises. Plus you save a few points over basilisks if you're already bringing Creed. Is there any gas in this idea?
Definitely. Especially now that any counter-battery fire would be weaker and less common.
Not to mention that they still get lethal hits on infantry
@@simonemastrovito6315 Not if they can not see the target.
@@guybarnes8247 ahhhh ffs, you're right
Carriages need orders to hit indirect on 4+. Basilisk and Manticores don’t. Neither get Lethals. So carriages is only worth it if you have the orders to spare.
Great video. I am a collector, not a table top guy, but I am still enjoying listening to your enthusiastic videos on game play! Great narrative! You should do guard lore videos!
Nice suggestion on a new line for Creed. We’ve gotta stop crying about the past sooner or later 😅
Why does 18" matter?
Still like my manticore against marines or better. Indirect, blast, and re-roll hits when shooting groups of 5+ for 175 points.
The "true" new strategy is to use the basilisk as a stug and just fire it directly.
Or Medusa SPGs...
@@Sirilere yessss
@@Sirilere and if you can find one you deserve to be called legends lol
Ahh yes, Commissar F-law's personal basilisk, Fluffy. Look it up!
That 1 to 3 always fails is very nerfy. Most of the time you will be dealing 0 damage against space marines or any medium infantry and maybe 1 attack will deal damage against light infantry.
I know this from playing against inner circle dark angels in 9th addition and there transhuman physiology.
On the contrary, my unit of field ordnance battery killed 4 rubric marines in one turn since it relies on volume and not accuracy
Thats very lucky indeed, but I think you'll find in the long run it will be different
@@jesseblevins56941-3 fails but rerolling with the manticore will be good Vs marines still. That's basically a 2.5 to hit
@@ashleychaplin5855thats only on nat 1 and only on units with 5 or more models. Its something but I don't think enough to make up for the nerf
@@jesseblevins5694 nope, it's on any fail against a unit of 5 or more. You just reroll fails
good thing i've got a second bombast fob awaiting basing and full priming (infantry are partly primed) maybe this'll motivate me to take my made to order creed i got last year out of his box and actually make him a suitable proxy for his daughter
Basilisk is still king, the movement debuff is still too good to pass
I'm surprised he didn't mention the Earthshaker Gun Carriage. Same ability and it's 20 points cheaper.
If you're bringing the Creed Oommand Blob I think it's Earthshakers are the play. If not, Basilisk all the way.
Agree. Eartshake carriages are the king now. Cheaper debuff.
@@DeathKorpsCommander-sm1um cheaper in a way. They do still benefit from order support but I suppose you could run them without orders too but they'd lose out on more effective damage output.
These guns also still do need to hit to apply the movement debuff ability.
@@badrabbit9703for these big guns (and mortars) the Scout sentinel is still king. The FOB needs their order for sustain but a small unit of sentinels would do the thing. If they are close enough and can see the thing of course..
@@karlnygren absolutely. After this update you're doing yourself a disservice by not bringing scout sentinels. Armored sentinels now too honestly. They were great before but we may be entering auto include territory now.
Oh no, scout sentinels are going to get nerfed now...
What about the manticore?
Just ordered three basilisks on eBay for $90 🤣. People are throwing out GOLD after this update. Their loss.
3 Basilisks, 6 Bombasts, 3 Wyverns, 3 Earthshaker carriages, 3 Deathstrikes for a laugh and a bloke on a horse. Boom, 2k points exactly. Remove the headache of choosing an artillery by taking all the artillery! 🤣
I have to play some more in Pariah Nexus, but I'm betting Single Basilisk will come out on top in the end! FOBs are not that great for 110 still
I would normally be shilling the Praetor here ... but with the Rogal Dorn point reduction, it's a tough sell
Answer: More tank
Really my guess pre-vid is the Basilisk for the movement de-buff if you’re bringing it at all.
Have to be within 18" for lethal? Where have GW said that?!
This
My bad! Its just visable!
They haven't, it's just line of sight.
yeah I just checked the rule, no mention of 18" in the new Born Soldiers rule or Rules commentary that I can see. (I think its a simple mistake, No doubt the commissar's keeping us on our toes)
@@MordianGlory phew, got worried there for a while!
When the earthshaker carriage exists to actually benefit from born soldiers vs its intended infantry target, i dont see the point in taking basilisks which dont unles you target monsters and vehicles.
I mean, it still doesn't get lethal unless it is in direct LoS
@@Lumovanis fair point
I like the asthetics of both the FOB's and the Basilisk. Honestly wouldn't mind either. But I honestly only would take them in combination with sentinels. The buff makes it too good to pass up. And they add a few more AT shots. Sure it'll cost more, but I think that's worth it.
The sentinel does nothing for basilisks that are staying still any more, they already hit on the max of 4
@@ashleychaplin5855 I wouldn't call rerolling 1's nothing. Plus they could fire on the move and still hit as good. I know the FOB's profit more, but I wouldn't write them off.
i was thinking 2 bombast squads with creed and 3 squads of mortars. creed drops fields of fire and you take expert bombardiers with the mortars. so many blast dice and the bombasts seem like they would still give you some versatility to go after some tougher targets. not all that expensive either.
TBH I have given up on the table top side of the hobby the pricing these days and the way they just keep messing with the rules. A lot of the time because of tournament players have been playing guard since 3rd edition. GW dont know what way they want to take the game anymore. The Guard used to have so much more arty from the small stuff right up to proper siege guns yet they just lose stuff each year.
Two earthshaker batteries the happy middle between these two and some sweet cheap versions 3d printed versions out there
Maybe I've wrong, but each FOB have d6 shots from the bombast field gun, not 2d6. It is not specified that each FOb have 2 bombast guns. Or do I have misunderstood something ?
Yo, is the Hydra underrated? there's a ton of units with the "fly" key word. with an fields of fire and maybe even a exterminator russ "Withering Hail", you've got AP -3 damage 3 shots that are re rolling the wound and wounding on 2+.
what are yall's thoughts?
I’m ignoring indirect at the moment, only slightly tempted by the 3 squad mortar pit with creed
Otherwise I’m going tank heavy with at least 6 LR & 6 chimera per list with as many little squads of scions as I can fit
New to guard and love your channel! So how are 2 bombast field guns 4d6? The profile says 1d6 per gun. I’m super confused 😀
I p🎉lan on making current, quality datasheets for as many legends figures, vehicles et all, that i can. I will use player input to figure out balance, and keep as many useable in game as i can. Ive already started statting. Imperial vehicles.
I own two printed earthshaker carriages and im considering putting them on 100mm bases to field them as ordnance batteries. Do you reckon +1 S and +1 damage is worth 20 more points?
The earthshaker has a more consistent base attack stat, but no sustained hits under orders
Hold on, where are you getting This 18in rule for Lethal hits, the new Born soldiers doesn’t say anything about that. Did they change Lethal hits entirely?
I'm new to guard and I want to make a 3 ordinance bat in a 2k point game as basilisks are hard to get by in my country and they dont even come with a hunter killer missile.
I just bought manticore before rules change 😭 guess I’ll have to adapt
2 basilisk well continue to be a mainstay in my list
I think only the basilisk is useable now, purely for the movement debuff. Artillery is dead if you're hoping to use it for damage only. I've had great games without using a single piece of artillery.
Field Ordinance Batterie ftw since release
I used FOB since start of 10th.
The bombast is the best so far.
I’ll be running FOBs because Cadia Stands 😂
Best artillery is just to look at on your shelf imo 😂
Look, I love your stuff but this was a fairly pants video. Inaccuracies in points and number of shots - or you weren't clear you were talking about both FOBs around 7:30.
You also don't really go into any other options and combo's like I thought you would. E.g., what if you instead take a PCS with Grand Strategist and Solar - 20 pts more but then Solar sits on a home objective ordering tanks; which because you have reasonable anti-infantry here you can just make Vanquishers and save more points to offset.
You're a good Guard commentator but this video sounds half-baked dude. You might have been going for short and sweet but this video idea has a lot more to talk about and I thought you were gonna go into some more interesting insights.
I'd say a close 3rd is the earthshaker carriage since it's basically a slightly more expensive field ordinance battery with earthshaker rounds. Combines the best of both fob and basilisk for a slightly higher cost (counting 2 with creed & infantry squad).
The new artillery is tanks and transports
Hold the second wave, where do FoB get 4D6 shots from? They are only D6 shots per gun. Am I missing something?
since hes referring to creed and comparing them to the basilisk i believe hes talking about 2 squads of them. if you are just going to take just a single one you can in many cases get away with just giving a command squad elsewhere on the map grand strategist and vox them orders for only 15 points instead of taking a whole officer just for one squad of guns thats going to be sitting back not doing much.
@@operator9858 ah I see thanks
with the Field Ordnance Battery lets just say I killed the HQ of my opponets tyranids in my last tournament ... and he was not happy (it was delicious)
Within 18 inches for lethal?
HWteams in Metal Bawkes.
Is the Mortar Pit dead then? 😢
unironically no artillery
I don't think he mentioned that FOB has sustained hits 1 if given an order, which means that it effectively can hit on a 3+ despite the nerf.
Basilisks all the way
Taking Artillery out! Double or Triple Dorn meta inc!
3x3 mortars
At 07:35 you said 4 d6 in total but its just 2 d6, one d6 for each gun. Or am i missing something?
Blast rule
Does daring recon reroll hit roll 1 work for artilery? If not is it still worth including 2 scout sentinels in guard lists?
I asked the guy at my local store about this. His interpretation was that re-roll abilities would still work; it's at the end of all rolling that hits of 1-3 auto-fail.
Btw you haven't mentioned that bombast has only 48 range. Sometimes it is not enough. At the first turn for example bombast can have no targets at all.
This should rarely come up as 48” is able to hit the vast majority of the opponents deployment zone in almost all deployment types if playing on the recommended GW board size of 44x60. Only time I think this would come up is if you stick the FOBs in the absolute back corner/short edge of your deployment and they stick a unit in the opposite corner. Though I would say this is just poor deployment/terrain if you can’t set your Fobs up so they can hit any objective.
@xMcCabe32x now i realize. That game i struggled with 48 range was 2x2 game on a bigger board. Something like 55x70. Bombast is a really good inderect option then. Thank you for clarification.
The popsicle at the end 💀
I don’t play with artillery or infantry anymore. Other than scions just full tanks.
My guard is super boring to play now, but it’s by far the most effective way to play.
I believe the wyvern is really underrated here.
Supressing one or two key units is very irritating in my experience and you can very well clear hideaway infantry with it.
Ive moved on to OPR as a game system, but I will always appreciate your gusto for the best faction in war gaming!
(Checks notes) says right here: Manticore.
As a tred head ime quite happy 240 point rogal dawns 😂
Basilisk. Because artillery damage is now a bad joke so the movement changes is all that matters.
At a 4 up, there is a not 0% chance that the basilisk fails to hit and actually fails to slow movement. Accomplishing nothing that turn.
It's never been a 0% chance. But let's assess the wff odd. If you roll a 1 for attacks (1/6) you need to fail 4 4+ rolls. That's 1/16. Adding all the fail states together your odds of failure are 1/96+1/192+1/384+1/768+1/1536+1/3072. Or 63/3072 odds of a wife. This is about 2% of your attacks. Or on average it will happen in a single round one game in 20. This compared to every other artillery that does nothing 20/20 games 5/5 rounds is amazing
How does the FW heavy mortar do these days? Is it even still a thing?
