    Lone plasma gunners are something to be reckoned with. One in my games back in 7th ed, one lone plasma gunner veteran managed to gun down two chaos terminators while being fired at by them. He killed one in each shooting phase, and his gun exploded on the third.
    I then painted a tiny medal on the model's chest.

    Honestly the first game moments are just magical like moments you’d find in a Guard novel with Guardsmen shooting Las riffles into the Tau commander to fruitlessly try to whittle it down and the plucky surviving vet pulling the plasma to deliver the coup de grace.
    Then the infantry charge just emulating the commissar forcing the young fresh soldiers forward to claim the objective no matter the cost.

    • @rileyernst9086
      @rileyernst9086 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the same can be said for the 2nd game. The tau naive to chaos are happy to have some astartes allies, because it's good to see that some of the humans can see the light of the greater good, even if they are a bit creepy and one guy is doing all the talking. It must just be their way.
      The shocked imperial guard get hit like a hammer by the combined tau and Rubic forces. They fight valiantly knocking out a tau tank but ultimately in vain. Their lines buckle under the force of the enemy assault and the enemy breach the frontlines and reach a critical objective area.
      The moment of triumph has arrived for the xenon, their dedication and hard fighting is at last sucsessful, victory in this war is within their grasp. Right up until the concealed blood angels tanks get the execution order and tear their bodies into minced meat.

    Sounds like an actual Imperial Guard vs Tau battle

    • @Jawzah
      @Jawzah ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I was thinking that too. Imperial commanders could have actual time constraints given by superiors to defeat the seemingly inferior xenos scum and no time to micromanage the huge amount of manpower they have and also have became jaded and tired etc... And IG are of course inspired by what we're heard about WW2 Red Army under Stalin - comishars pushing practically perhaps even literally unarmed men forward to their death. It's been told that Stalin executed many of the army officers in his paranoia .. so they lacked experienced officers at least on the start of the war.
      Tau are depicted as being different kind of "space communists" (or actually imperialists) - often hawing to fight numerically superior enemies and being very diligent about tactics and so on.

    • @Jawzah
      @Jawzah ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BTW- I'we never played Tau - and it's a long while since I'we played 40k at all - but I do have or had (I'm not sure) and old Tau codex is "looted" (not stealing but taking intentionally abandoned stuff) from Ropecon.

    • @The80sWolf_
      @The80sWolf_ ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Jawzah Red army comissars never pushed soldiers and unarmed(lmao) men in front of them like that. Its something made up in popular culture, like call of duty and hollywood films. Soviets during ww2 produced like 40 million rifles.

    • @nikita1911001
      @nikita1911001 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@The80sWolf_ a half-truth either way. while commissars werent physically pushing people out unarmed men in front, the soviet commissariat successfully implemented a concept of "barrier troops" - a unit comprised of members of the soviets secret police, naturally placed at the whatever other red army troops backline, serving the sole purpose of preventing desertion among other troops by any necessary means.
      so yeah, it just wasnt exactly a dude wearing an officers cap and cape combo pushing people forward.

    Kyle set you up for a really fun match. 150+ guard mobbing across the table with a green light to take shots at anything and everything is one of the FUNNEST ways to play I don't care what your primary army is, its just a good time. Especially against a Tau player and them being more akin to sniping so a 150+ man charge is gonna be one hell of a turkey shoot for them until they get overwhelmed and locked up in CQB which tau is abysmal at last time I checked.

    I am currently in a local friendly escalation league. And my friend got the most toxic player in our area that we met so far. First of all we are both sorta new, I started in 2018 with 8th edition using guard and recently got back in last year with tau. (Yes yes I know) and at the beginning of the year wanted to get back into guard hence how I found your channel getting tips. Anyways this guy apparently was super toxic. He was telling my friend that for deployment that they both had to place models at the same time instead of taking turns, he insisted on putting the terrain in his way which was basically just a scramble for Terrain pieces to place on your side of the battlefield, instead of following the little help sheet the store gives u so that way u can create a fair field. And obviously because my friend was confused by this the guy got all the big terrain pieces and was covered the entire game. But the worst thing which got me mad that I wasn’t there to help my friend was that my friend has this ability or stratagem to make his nids re roll wound rolls AND hit rolls. It’s a combo and this man told him “no u can’t re roll both, u have to choose one. You can only re roll either the wound or hit. Not both.” And my friend went “yes I can look. This one lets me re roll wound. This one lets me re roll hit. So I can do both” this man man really went “No every unit can only pick either or.” He was also saying that my friend wasn’t allowed to consolidate in combat, he made up bogus lies saying “oh since you charged your nids get -1 to hit.” And apparently they played for 3 hours and ended the game on turn 2 because my friend was fed up and just wanted to end the game. That for the 3 hours they had been arguing and reading the 40k rule book for every phase on both his turn and my friend. (Sorry for the long text)

    I don’t bully people with it, I remind people about it, I even donate my time if they weren’t being scumbags. I just don’t like making it to turn 2 and loosing because I took late game scoring things and my opponent front loaded their points in the 1st few turns.

They're attracted to the lore and they find some way to socialize with people they otherwise would never be around. It must be that some of those players appear at all tournaments from time to time.
    I walked out of a game once against a similar player who spent 10 minutes trying to balance a Predator on top of a three story ruin! Questioned every distance and tried to blag the rules. Crazy people.
    But your first game reminded me of one of my best ever games against a good friend of mine in 8th. He had Dark Eldar all in raiders and Ravengers, I had Tallern guard.
    I got first turn ,and for some reason every one of my Autocannons and lascannons hit and took down his vehicles, his squads falling wounds in the wreckage.
    His Archon came running across the board, already wounded from a raider crash she started by taking a wound to combat drugs.
    She charged into a five man guard squad killed four of them.
    The last lone guardsman with just the butt end of his lasgun hit on a 6 wounded on a 6 ,the Archon rolled for a save and got 1!

    The problem with guard is that it’s a very massed based army in which if you bring something to deal with heavy armor then for the most parts you’ll only kill four models at best and the commissars simply resolves the moral problem vs anti infantry makes it harder to deal with support vehicles like leman Russ’s and chimeras in which case can be easily dealt with vs the infantry which requires several turns just to wipe them out,

Seeing my companies march up the board with commissars, command squads and heavy weapons in tow was nostalgic.

    An acquaintance had gotten started with Necrons, and was up against my Dark Eldar. Using 6th ed vehicle rules, I moved my venom and fired with it's main splinter cannon. I then fired snapshots with the secondary splinter cannon. Opponent insisted I couldn't fire with both since I moved, and I pointed out the exact page of the rulebook that permitted the snapshots. Even with this, he kept saying "I'll let you do that" as if I were breaking the rules. For this and some other reasons I'm glad I barely ever see this guy.

    Back in 5th ed, my elder brother owned a gaming store that was also a gaming club. A state tournament was going to be held where gaming clubs would compete to see who will be best gaming club. The tournament would be held at a university, with each club having multiple teams representing different gaming systems such as 40k, WHFB, Warmachine, etc.
    One of my friends, I'll call him D, was going to be part of the 40k team of our gaming club and wanted a practice game with me. D was playing Blood Angels, and I was playing Guard. I can't remember the full details because it was so long ago (I think it was 2009 or 2010), but I noticed that he cheated twice in the game. The first was when he brought his Rhino in from reserve. The rules state that when a vehicle comes onto the table, that counts as it movement of 6 inches. My opponent bent the rules where his rhino came onto the table and moved 12 inches instead, essentially giving him an 18 inch movement. When I called him out that it was an illegal move, he BS his way of it. The next moment of cheating was when - in a single turn - he moved his rhino 6 inches, disembarked his 10-man unit of Black Company one model at a time by giving them an 8 inch movement (I,e. He would disembark a single model within 2 inches from one side hatch then move it forwards another 6 inches before the same thing for the next model. He then "fleet of foot" 6 inches in his shooting phase before charging me in close combat. In other words, he basically got a 20 inch charge in a single turn.
    Despite all his cheating in the game, I won the game from victory points alone, much to his frustration. As D was packing up I called the club president (CP) over and asked him about the rules regarding vehicles coming onto the table from reserve and can units charge into combat after disembarking from a vehicle that moved prior to the unit existing the vehicle. The CP was shocked and asked me where all this is coming from. And when he told him that D had done this, he immediately pulled him to the side and railed into him.
    After 30 mins, the CP came back to me and said, "I've kicked him off the 40k team because I will not allow a cheater to give our club a bad name. I've given him permission to come and watch the tournament as a visitor, but he is NOT to engage in any talk with players during gameplay". For context, D would always walk up to players who are in the middle of a game and start giving one of the players tactical and army building advice on what they should and should not be doing with their armies, etc, etc.)
    That weekend, the tournament occurred. Another friend of mine told me what happened at the event and I laughed my head off at the news. Apparently the CP had told the TOs about D and his behaviour. D had ignored the CP warnings and actively tried to give "tactical advice" to players, which resulted in the TOs kicking D out of the venue and banning him from attending all future events.
    D didn't come back to the club until two weeks after the tournament. I was manning the front counter when he stalked through the front door and right up me before screaming "You got me kicked out of the tournament!"
    I calmly responded, "You brought this upon yourself. Don't blame me for your screw ups. He clenched his fists and continued to throw verbal abuse at me until I threatened to kick him out of the store if he didn't stop. He left after that.
    I told my brother what happened and the next time when D came into the store, my brother pulled him to side and said "I will not tolerate any abuse to my staff and customers, especially towards my brother. the next time you do something like this I will ban you from the store."
    Suffice to say, that wasn't the end of D's story. But that's for another time.

    Slow players have rekt me is tournaments so many times. The last time i was in a tourney back in 8th i was paired against dark eldar round one. I was playing pure demons (khorne and tzeentch) and so my turn 1 was shit. Some psychic stuff happened but that was basically it. Turn 2, my bloodletters deep strike in, my bloodthirster gets into combat etc. Etc. But then we ran out of time because of how slow this guy was playing. He had 4 units left on the board (one was a transport) at the end of turn 2 (I went second). But he was up by 3 vps because of how terrible demon turn ones are. Chess clocks should be a thing. It annoys me because my whole turn 1 took about 10 minutes.

    I had an incident where I came to the aid of a player who was being accosted by a Tau (nothing against Tau players you guys are awesome) player and after blocking a punch and placing him in a chokehold until he gave up and left I was left in stitches as a random YuGiOh player onlooker looked at me and said "Wow I guess it's true that Tau suck at melee". I went outside afterward to speak to him to ask him what had set him off and learned of a rather horrible upbringing coupled with a tumultuous high school experience and I reasoned with him and offered to be a friend if he needed an ear. We still speak over xbox live when he is on and he has since not only seeked aid but has been a positive role model in his gaming community. I abhor violence so I am glad it ended without punches thrown and let's be honest there is never a need for violence, let alone at a casual game of 40k and I am glad this ended with a great story and a positive outcome.
