  • We test drive and review the BMW 328d 2014. The 328d is BMW's first four-cylinder diesel for the U.S. market and it is powered by a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit producing 180 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, propelling the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.2 seconds.
For 2014, the company will offer the BMW 328d with optional xDrive all-wheel drive, though that reduces the fuel economy numbers to 31/43 mpg. But how does it drive and how reliable the BMW 328d is?
Let's find out in this review!

Did he say twin turbo at the beginning? It's not, it's a twin-scroll turbo. Big difference. And for those wondering about the sound or shake, it's a diesel, what else do you expect?

Does the sedan model have navi? This one is kinda disappointing without it.

Good review. It being a 4 banger is a reason for more diesel clatter.

Correction, the M-sport package does not include adaptive suspension. Going from comfort to sport only sharpens steering, throttle, and transmission.

What kind of valvetrane does this motor have? Came love to tappet valve or rollerbearing?

I’m think of getting one that has 72k miles on it for about $13,000. Is this a pretty good deal and how reliable is this car? It’s mostly going to be used on surface streets. If anyone could help me out with these questions that would be awesome. Thank you !

Hey Ayden, hopefully you got some help. I'm currently looking to purchase one myself and from the looks of that price point that seams like a great price (for the M sport model). Let me know if that helped or if you could help me with my future purchase. Thanks!

Is it safe to say that this car will drive with minimal problems for 300-500k miles? I'm looking to buy a car that will last me a long time and I feel that the German diesels provide that well. I also want it to be a diesel.

Yes but beware of maintenance cost and electronic bullshit to fail. typical cheap issues like plastics instead of metal for coolant parts. But it's a good car and if you live in usa it's better then cruze or vw tdi. Most efficient car in USA. The only draw back to this car is you can't get a manual gear box and the backseat/trunk is smaller than the comparative passat. It's also very quiet for a diesel. I like a car to be able for me to put the backseats down so I can sleep I fear this is too small for that. For now I have an A4, and it has a big ass trunk/back seat sleeping area perfect for road trips. I wish I could have a diesel A4 here but audi hates us.

Probably late but for someone else reading the comment. If you are looking for a car to drive out of warranty go for 6 cylinder BMW diesel engines. This thing is highly unreliable ,just like petrol 4 cylinder engines.

Buy a Toyota or Honda if you want that kind of mileage lol, I’ve owned everything from Land Rover, mercedes & bmw to Chevy, Ford & dodge. Nothing is reliable as the Japanese made idk how they do it so well, pain in the ass to work on sometimes tho, especially the new ones

The sport seats may be comfortable. The standard seats are actually very uncomfortable for any more than about 30 minutes. Wish I'd gotten the sport package.

    It's not twin-turbocharged, twin-power doesn't mean twin-turbo

38.8 miles per gallon at an average of 60.6 miles per hour is a little disappointing. The car's rated at 45 miles a gallon highway.

    • @sic22l
      @sic22l 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Average of 60.6 mph means travel speed of 80mph. That's not ecodriving.

Mine does 50-51.5 @ 70mph+ and has returned 55mpg twice! Quieter, smoother, MUCH faster AND more economical than my '06 209k mi Jetta! (100 vs 180hp; 177 vs 280lb-ft)

@Gregg B I've owned both 06 manual tdi jetta and 14 328dx they were both great, I still have the 3 series tho, I sold my tdi at 331k miles and still miss it. The feeling of a manual diesel cannot be found in any other vehicle.
