Salamanders show that compassion isn’t a weakness it’s a strength that fuels devotion and sacrifice like no other. They retain their families, their identities, their values and unlike most of the other chapters they’re never separated from who they were and what they loved. They’re a super dope faction that I love, Salamanders and Space Wolves are the best and most unique/human of the chapters.

To be fair, if you kill orks, they come back from spores and get your civilians. But if you cremate orks, they don’t. If you kill Tyranids, they might still infect some civilians with genestealer stuff. But if you cremate Tyranids, they’re gone. If you kill Chaos Spawn or Nurgle-infested creatures, they are still obscenely contagious to vulnerable civilians. But not if you kill them with fire. I think the Salamanders are worried about sanitizing the battlefield, not just winning.
Honestly, it does make some sense. Give the area-effect weapon to the people who will *genuinely* only use it as required. They aren't going to randomly torch a bunch of homes unless they're *certain* there are no living innocents, or if there is truly no other option.

I love that story line with Pedro of the Crimson fist and a mother of three children that lost her husband. They are marching as fast as they can and the mother collapses from exhaustion. She tells Pedro “I’m sorry, they are too heavy.” He then takes the children from her and goes “It is time” and you think he’s about to put her down and then he picks her up and says, “It is time someone carried you.” When i read that it gave me chills.
Salamanders are the biggest (literally) bros you'll probably ever see, alongside the Blood Angels (at least the ones that aren't calling you Horus), Raven Guard and Ultramarines (I think, from what I saw they're pretty chill).

Since they stay in contact with their families, imagine a Salamanders scout coming back to his hometown for the first time since he left for training and just DESTROYING all the snacks and leftovers. They were fine, but they were extremely pissed off by this act of friendly fire, so pissed off, that the chapter master of that group of salamanders put the fear of the emperor into the death korps of krieg the same people who are literally afraid of nothing had fear put into them by the friendliest boys in the galaxy that just goes to show the rage of a patient man is worse than that of an impatient man
My head-canon is that the salamanders have the best MREs since they stay with their families, I can imagine they learned some recipes and make them themselves since they’re probably the most self sufficient legion. And with their care for civilians, I think they might even share some of those homemade rations with the people they rescue.
So Salamanders are better than the Jedi, as they allow their recruits to keep in contact with their families. Imagine if Anakin had been allowed such consideration?

From what I've read, it definitely varies a bit. Originally they were pretty monstrous before they found sanguinius, and couldn't really control their thirst. Then post sanguinius they're generally pretty nice, nicer than most marines I'd say. And being a thrall to a blood angel is probably one of the nicer forms of slavery in the setting! 😂 At the same time, there's a bit in the night lords trilogy where they massacre civilians who are associated with night lords, because to them, they're no longer human, just mutants and heretics

Even though I barely know much about WH40K, Their compassion is exactly why the Salamanders are my favorite Space Marine Chapter. Their proficiency with anything fire and dragon/serpent related also helps.

Even though I barely know much about WH40K, Their compassion is exactly why the Salamanders are my favorite Space Marine Chapter.
Their proficiency with anything fire and dragon/serpent related also helps.
