To everyone commenting about the levels after Alpha Plus, I know that they exist. And I understand how it is inaccurate in other ways. But the comic was written as it is, I can't change that. I just wanted to dub it.
Was Malcador Alpha or Beta, or he was have another grade?
not to keep the emperor alive, but the throne
Ahhh, okay I was about to do my loremaster bit and correct you. Considering Magnus is a Beta Plus Psyker and the Emperor was a Gamma Plus
@@PyromaN93 Alpha + , Iirc.
And of course theres the OTHER side of it, the "Null" scale, where you start to get people who are "anti-psykers", ranging in capability from slightly lesser than most people to the afformentioned Culexus assasins, who are immune to psyker powers and whos mere presence can cause pain and anguish even among normal people.
Yeah, I wanted to contact the artist to do that part in comic form but apparently they haven't been online in 5 years.
Fun fact omega minus nulls are hard to see for normal base line humanity Because your brain dose the same thing it dose to your nose and straight up omits them form your feild of view
They are so hated that the Culexus Temple is allowed to clone their agents (something the Imperium does not like to do).
@@robertnelson9599 It also helps that Culexus level Nulls are stupid STUPID rare so.
@@beastalchemistVAPlease do a video on the nulls when convenient.
I think I remember an official short story of 40k concerning an Alpha Plus pysker.
It was a child on a black ship, sent to be sacrificed to the Emperor, and completely misidentified due to the child's powers not fully awakening. However, enroute in their cell, their power awakened. In the span of less than a *nano-second* the child with their sudden immense power, managed to teleport the black ship into multiple different locations across the galaxy. The child's power kept growing and growing into unfathomable measures! Until the child suddenly became aware, and saw before them the four chaos gods watching, each immediately vying to claim the child's soul. The child, realizing the horror that laid before them, made the ultimate sacrifice and committed suicide as the ship was returned to its original point.
This all happened in less than 8 seconds if I remember correctly. So fast, that no one on the ship even noticed anything had happen.
This is very interesting. I genuinely wonder how that kid would've turned out if someone like the emperor were still around
Sounds like a great story. 👍🏻
@@brendanmuller7301would have turned into a corpse
The emperor is the one who started culling psykers in the first place
Meanwhile my Darktide psyker: (in heavy German accent) I blew up mein house baking bread and ze guards sot I committed heresy!
@NoProtect The dangerous kind. With training, the child could control it.
Both Malcador and Magnus are canonically alpha plus. And fairly sane in their own rights.
As well as considering Magnus and The Emperors unusual soul situation. I would argue that Malcador is the only purestrain human in known history to be a stable individual.
I thought Ravanor was an alpha level psyker.
@@chadwhitfield6946 His base level is around gamma. His chair and other psychic amplifiers boost him into the alpha range.
Dan abbit has an interesting though reletively unusual interpretation of psykers. Saying that their ranking can improve over time with the right augmentation and training. Or even degrade due to underuse.
@@chadwhitfield6946 A reasonable question though.
@@MrReich1918
He's at least Beta.
@@terminallove3531 I believe it is in the emperors gift. I would need to double check. But in that book he is specifically described as a high Gamma. Unless you are able to source something to the contrary your words have little value.
"Throughout space and the immaterium, I am the honorable one"
-The low-level psyker that somehow grew into an Alpha plus, Daemon Prince slayer.
@@gaelurquiz5755 He ate the flesh of a lot of psykers and daemons, not to mention any relic from eras past belonging to the eldar of old and the ancient ones. Plus a couple of odd boys from the Orks.
Who?
@@timothycrowell381 Dalgor Kraigo.
Important reminder: Even low power Psykers can be very difficult to kill with their connection to the immaterial plane repairing wounds and sometimes even reviving them from a fatal blow. That's why its usually standard procedure to double tap psykers...and then triple tap them by reducing their physical remains to ash or plasma goo.
Indeed, like it is depicted In Astartes, where the Psykers head got bashed in followed by a magdump point blank into the remains, taking no chances!
Love the video. Fun fact, sometimes an Alpha Psyker is employed by the imperium of man. How would be mad enough to try? Why radical inquisitors, of course. Although in a lot of cases, if a child is shown (and captured) early enough, they might be sent to the grey knights for testing.
The Adeptus Custodes use Alpha-level Astropaths as well as the Doomscryers.
Grey knights care more about stability than raw power so I imagine they prefer beta or gamma
Also not to mention psi-titans using them as power generators
Not to mention the warp ddrive itself being... of questionable origin. @@discipleofdagon8195
A rare inquisitor might start out as beta grade Psyker and by some esoteric means get boosted to Alpha grade ability,
I always wanted to write a Warhammer 40k story of twins ... one of them alpha psyker and the other a Null ... Power of the Alpha suppressed by his Null sibling from womb. The alpha develops this way a natural ability to shot his mind from the warp. Though out his life his abilities surface slowly attracting both attentive eye of the Inquisition and Chaos Cults.
Two siblings against the universe ...
Something like a WH40k Gravity Falls ...
Please write that
Sounds amazing
A-alpharius? That you?
@@beastalchemistVA
I have more ...
When the back ship arrives to finely take or heroes to Terra so they can be judged it turns out that the ship is a remnant of the Dark Age of Technology when humanity first encountered the Psyker phenomena and was looking for ways to deal with them.
The Back Ship has a machine that incapacitates psykers and allows them to dream during travel, Matrix like. The dream is generated by something that for all purpose could be a AI but its not ... the Tech-Preist said its not ...
This specific Back Ship is used to transport young psykers but it gathers anyone that has to be transported to Terra.
The Black Ship name ... Hogwarts.
The Ship Dream Matrix is used by Adeptus Astra Telepathica to teach young Psykers in a way that would allow their minds to accept their gifts while they are cut off from warp influence.
Teachers are Adeptus Astra Telepathica.
Dementors are Sisters of Silance.
DeathEathers are Chaos Cult Psykers chocked up to the machine Matrix.
Full Harry Potter world as a 40k Matrix dream.
And a lot of room for Grimdark shenanigans.
I like the idea, though the presence of a null is unpleasant enough to a normal person, it is beyond torture for a psycher.
If I recall correctly guillymen contacted the emperors mind and found his mind to be completely alien to any humans mind and by comparison he is completely insane
Sitting in the same place for 10,000 years would do that
@@beastalchemistVA The Emperor needs to touch grass... If he hadn't been paralysed by his traitor son Horus.
@@beastalchemistVAhe just needs to scratch his nose
Considering he is essentially a collection of proto-psykers in one body it's not surprising that his mind would be alien.
wasn't that because he had to 'split' the pleasant part of himself so he could destroy Horus?
"They are never employed by the Imperium" knowingly is a good caveat to add to that.
I can't stop giggling at the thought of a demon being literally blinded by light of a alpha plus psyker's soul. It's probably like staring at the sun point blank, second only to sticking your face directly into astronomicon ray
Bro got flashbanged
I mean, Alpha plus psykers are something else. The emperor can destroy daemons by merely being near them. Not just banish them, but genuinely truly kill them, something daemons really fear. Back before Horus had four gods lending him power, Malcador forcechoked him like Darth Vader and both Horus and two of his brothers were powerless to do anything to stop him.
So the psyker in darktide is a zeta, epsilon or a delta, gamma because he can conjure barier, flame, electricity, push, brainburs, voidstrike and he even has telekinesis.
Now idk if this is a diffrent matter or just gameplay friendly, in my pov he can do all of them.
The playable pysker in darktide is relatively low on the totem being most likely at IOTA, anything past that and we would be able to just nuke portions of Atoma
It's implied that each one is used by an individual character and your playing as a "different"character whenever you switch powers.
What level the darktide psyker is has been a question of mine before
The psyker character probably has access to all the warp abilities you mentioned, but for gameplay reasons you can only use what’s in your load out.
@@Bona_Tempora I'd chock it up to inquisition tampering. You're locked into a set of abilities because of neural inhibitors (or enhancers, depending on latent power level) that also help keep you from completely wigging out when a daemonhost is in proximity.
Sure, you're not as powerful as you could be without the inhibitor - Or stronger than usual because of a neural enhancement
But it also means you're safeguarded (Somewhat) from the perils of the warp, and don't have to worry about your powers leaving your grasp in a chaotic, emotionally charged battle.
Malcador was very close to the Emperor as a psyker, the only thing that stoped him from going to the same level being his mortal body- he was able to hold the golden throne until his body gave up and even had the strength to give some hope (and depending on the version, even gave the power he had left) to the Emperor.
One of my favorite fanfics/Vox in the Void stories is "Field Test." A Krieger is created with a flaw, producing a Beta level psyker. He's about 15 years old. And routed an army.
Personally, I think there are plenty more stable Alpha plus Psykers they just don't involve themselves with the ongoings of the galaxy, and are neigh impossible to find unless they want to be. They likely see themselves as above the situation in the galaxy, and likely care little for their fellow man acting as they see fit whenever they see fit.
It's possible
And you are basing this off of what? Just because?
The only alpha plus psykers in Warhammer are Magnus and Big E, unless written otherwise
@@crim1188"known"
I wouldn't be surprised if there was like handful out there just vibing, million worlds is quite a lot
@@crim1188Malacador was almost certainly an Alpha level Psyker
This was really informative, I wasn't too knowledgeable of psyker power levels. Both your voice acting was amazing, great video!
The Blanks also have like five levels as well, they are counted as negative in the scale.
Their level manifests in the range and intensity of their blankness, so a minus one null is, on top of being inmune to warp influence, is able to make people uncomfortable or hostile. A minus 3-4 can banish daemons by being within a hundred meters or so. Minus Five will not only banish daemons, but can cause humans to drop dead (for example if a -5 culexus removes his helmet, as the Anima Speculum in it serves as both a focusing device as well as a containment one).
This list is very much incorrect.
This was very good! One small thing I would have liked to have seen is examples in established characters. Like, what level is Ahzek Ahriman? Varro Tigurius? Malcador? Various psychic inquisitors? Being able to put names and actions to the levels would have been awesome.
Ahriman and Malcador most certainly have to be top 5 tiers for sure, no doubt about that. If not it might make sense as possibly the upper echelons of psychic power are perhaps uncontrollable and untamable with human capability alone, I struggle to believe there anywhere below theta though
No one else is going to mention it, but this is old lore and does not apply at all to the modern system.
See, it was made to try and explain the worldbuilding of the Imperium, but it just doesn't work. Even Dan Abnett, the only author who uses the system (considering he invented it, it's no surprise), routinely breaks it by having deltas with technological edges beat unequipped betas, experienced gammas beating wild alphas, and minor combat psykers overpowering legendary diviners and communication psykers.
What's the point of a power scaling system that doesn't actually grade power at all? There is none. Much like the Imperium, the fanbase tries to take this outdated, broken system and universalize it. Abnett even pokes fun at his own attempts to force in the system by having one character (an idiot) describe another psyker (around delta, per the narrative) as an alpha, because the system itself is just a way for average morons to try and make sense of a system that is designed to not make sense.
So all those characters you mentioned? Are they alpha, beta, alpha plus? The correct answer is that they aren't anything, because not even GW is stupid enough to try and shoehorn in a power level system that doesn't even work. So they're described qualitatively, not quantitatively. They're "strong, experienced, wise, better than his other character" but *never* rated.
So in a sense, this whole graph and voiceover is more fan-made than official lore. Hasn't been close to official in almost two decades. It's only making a comeback now because it creates idle talk, like which characters are stronger. 40k isn't about that, though, so it fails even there.
@@andrewdowns9047 Yeah, unfortunately this is the correct answer. How strong is x character? The answer is "depends on how much the author likes/hates that character." It rarely has anything to do with the actual strength at all. This is a plague upon 40k lore, which is a sickness shared by several other franchises like Star Wars, Halo, and the like which I like to dub "multiple-author-itis". Too many writers all with their favorite pet characters, and no one agrees on anything.
@@spamhere1123 Do you really think the authors have it out for your favorite characters when they aren't as powerful as you'd like? I'd argue you're the bigger plague on 40k lore. You have no respect for the setting, you just want to powerscale it. The writers can do whatever they want, it's their universe.
@@andrewdowns9047 The fuck is your problem? Desiring any level of internal consistency is a problem in your mind?? Get out of here, and have the AdMech turn you into a sump pump servitor, because you aren't using any of your brain anyway.
It's always fascinating to try and put the events that a very low level psyker into perspective, they might be a normal factory worker that his colleagues know is simply good at the local gambling den and who should have his sleeves checked between rounds.
Audio tip: For creating an otherworldly sound through overdubbing (like I you did on the alpha-plus psyker), overdub more takes of the same voices and hard pan them in different directions. Three on the Left and Three on the right is probably enough. It also becomes less important to nail the timing exactly as you add more voices since it becomes less or a duo and more of a choir. You can also get a variety in that choir with just one voice but by changing your tone, pitch or distance from the the microphone. Nice effects!
While I already knew this bit of Lore, I have to say that the Voice Acting and the Illustrations where highly Entertaining and made me greatly enjoy rereading this already known Lore.
Malcador would dispute the claim that the Emperor is the only ever stable alpha plus psyker.
Malcador was extremely strong, but probably around alpha level. He wasn't able to repair his body at will (past his ability to stop aging), couldn't warp-travel by himself, and even without the crazy stuff, his body was already at its limit when he used his powers seriously, as shown when he almost kills Horus and almost burns himself in the process.
Wait until you get into Antisouls, Blanks, and Paiahs. I recall an Omega Negative soul that was literally a fetus hooked up to an anti-psyker cannon because it destroyed its mother's soul before its body could develop.
Imagine if it did develop. What sort of power would it have wielded against Chaos?
@@nowanimportant8887it’s not just anti-chaos, it’s anti-warp and by extension also anathema to even the material plane.
@@rhett3185 Ooh, now I wanna see what exactly that fetus would've become had it been able to reach its prime.
@@nowanimportant8887probably an Anti-God of Chaos, a God of Order perhaps?
@@xcell_r4thr87 Don't gods need worship or smth for empowerment? Something which is only capable through Warp logic?
Unlikely for that matured blank to become a god...but very likely that its own blankness has become potent enough to harm one.
I like this list. It does a great job of summarizing psyker affinity. The simplistic animation style is pleasing to the eye.
Just the shaking and depth to the voice you could know the threat of the Alpha Plus and with the description gave me spine chills man...nice job!
That was fun, man, great job! Keep 'em coming!
I've been looking for a video like this for months now, thank you so much!
I guess "Alpha Plus" would explain what he did to Horus.
Love it!!! 😁Voice acting is top tier!
Fantastic video! Great depiction of lore, art and VA.
absolutely AMAZING, would LOVE to see more.
I was like “oh wow, alpha psychers are strong, great video loved the explanat-“ *next tier shows up* “HOW CAN YOU GET WORSE THAN APOCALYPTIC?”
I love videos like this, concise, interesting, a little funny, but above all earnest; great content!
well done mate, I enjoyed this ^^
Dude, that was awesome!!!, incredible video!!!
This is great! Your voice is awesome for a kind of in-universe lore reading!
This is by far the best video describing the Psyker levels.
I really enjoyed this! Looking forward to seeing more videos!
Nicely done dude.
1:15 - Level 0.
1:33 - Level 1.
2:05 - Level 2.
2:38 - Level 3.
3:09 - Level 4.
4:00 - Level 5.
4:46 - Alpha
5:26 - Alpha+
Reminder :
level 4 - Primaris Psyker is currently 60 points in the Astra Militarum codex.
and Presumably :
The Grey Knight Brotherhood Librarian which is likely to be a Beta level Psyker - level 5. Is 100 points.
---
Also most psyker in the Imperium are not combat psykers and many are Astropaths help connect communications faster than light between imperial worlds. They are probably Level 2 psykers.
Level 3 Psykers- are probably The Psyker in Dark Tide, many underground Unsanctioned psyker, I assume many generic grey knights are of this tier- before getting their gene seed and implants.
Librarians of space marines are probably level 4 too. If they are named Librarian they potentially can be 5.
4&5 level psykers are probably where all the Inquisition level psykers are.
A good entry to the lore scene. I enjoyed the video.
Dude your video was awesome. I hope you have more
I really enjoyed this video. I've come back and rewatched it a dozen time over at this point.
This is an extremely well made video! kudos!
Personally, I reckon that if the imperials didn’t insist on torturing them constantly, psykers wouldn’t go insane nearly as often
The imperium's treatment is precisely what prevents psykers from going insane. They go insane from warp influence, not emotional stress, thus the process of sanctioning forces them to extremes of torment in a controlled environment so they can harden themselves against warp predation. They would have no defense without that experience.
Good enough. You did better than a lot of clowns! I'll give you a sub
I love when comparisons of a same artstyle are used for measuring purpouses. Please keep it up!
I’d love to see more lore videos, you have just an amazing voice

What would the Psykers in WH40k:Darktide be considered? Epsilon? Gamma? Somewhere in that ballpark?
Either way, they seem pretty powerful considering how they can casually decimate large amounts chaos guardsmen, dreg militia etc.
Zeta/Epsilon. Comparable to Wyrdvane Psykers.
WITNESS YOUR DOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!
Psykers can Grow in power, so the weedy, level one psyker could be a different rating than the Level 30 "I run Auric Every Day and suffer no downs" Psyker.
I'd rate them in a range from Iota to Low Delta.
Very nicely done!

the Images with the voice acting as you go through the stages are an awesome touch, I hope you continue to make videos like this.
Reminds me of The Exploring Series channel that widely covers sci-fi, mythology books and most notably SCPs
When you realize that all Craftworld Aeldari are canonically born as Alpha-level Psykers, is when you also realize that the only reason they ever lose the majority of the time is because the writers literally had to dumb down and nerf them for plot convenience.
That is - at best - some lost and deeply buried canon, because it would completely put the lore on it's head. Why use a shuriken weapon and grenades if you can pulverise a skyscraper with a thought and enslave a whole human army with only one of your kind?
@@aopt471 As I said, it's why GW's writers had to literally nerf them everytime they made an appearance lol
I thought that's the power they have only when slanaesh isn't breathing down their necks?
Not really. Average Eldar is a Psyker but not Alpha but rather Iota to Beta. I didn't seen Eldar Alpha Psykers at all most of the Eldar farseers are Betas and Gammas. Because of their discipline, suppression, awareness of danger and strict preparation. Imperial Psykers from Omicron to Alpha will only dream to being trained like Eldars and being completly immune to daemons try to possess their bodies.
Loved your voice! Good job 👏🏼
GIRL ALERT, GIRL ALERT, GIRL ALERT!
