    Nice video man! Picked up a 1987 toyota rv with a 22re. Been sitting for a few years, dropped the fuel tank and cleaned it out with a new fuel pump and fuel filter. Had to fix a lot of wiring as mice got into it. Fired up with a misfire and like your video tested TPS, MAF etc. Turned out it needed new spark plugs. Put in new plugs and wire and it runs like a champ. Passed smog here in CA with flying colors. 22re is such an easy engine to work on and diagnose and runs great even after all these years.

    Excellent. One more thing, vacuum solenoids. Made huge difference on my 88. If no click, bad, replace.

    What was the symptom of your sticky TPS? And the symptom of the intake air boot being cracked?

    Good morning I have a 93 Toyota pickup 22re. One of the injectors was leaking fuel and engine shaking. I rebuilt all injectors. Not leaking any more but engine still shaking

    My 1989 22re bog whenever I pass certain rpm and only if I press the pedal halfway and dosent want to redline it has a weird straight sound when I gas it all the way, the bogging is like when I'm decking it does not climb straigjt and normal it's going to have like this small thud or a tiny pop every second basically making me loose power, any thoughts what can cause this? I'm wondering if it's maf or tps or something else

      Honestly without actually hearing it and seeing how it runs, it's really difficult to diagnose, I'd hate for you to just fire the parts cannon at it and still not fix the issue

      If you're talking about the throttle position sensor, it's much much easier to just remove the throttle body and replace and adjust the sensor on a bench, make sure you have a new throttle body gasket ready, and you'll need a set of feeler gauges to properly adjust the TPS, 22reperformance.com sells everything you'll need including Allen style bolts to install the new TPS

    I did egr delete and took off and cleaned throttle body. I'm wondering if I put that back on right. Now idles high and idle screws all the way down. Any thoughts? Oh and throttle when let foot off gas its like it grabs like its bogging or steps down. But touch gas and it goes fine. So not bogging. Thinking some how maybe less idol air , well in gear?

    • @theman9764
      @theman9764  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like a vacuum leak or the Throttle Position Sensor is out of adjustment now

    • @justdave4972

      Well I soaked it with a can of carb cleaner. And found 1 vacuum leak. And that helped. But ill give on the position sensor. Was working pretty good on first start up then it sit a few weeks. An on this second start. It started this. But I admit when I put sensor back on i just turned it till it went in slots then twisted it up to match screw holes. And its set all the way down I guess. If I untighten and move it it just goes up higher. So may have twisted coil to much before screwed it down. Gues ned to watch a video on just putting it on right way. I admitted ly haven't done one before. Funny thing is I've had 17 of these trucks not one in 30yrs has been a re, now I have 3 of them and 4 engines..lol. so better figure it out...lol. or engine swap brains out..lol. maybe just take it off and reinstall. Slower.. thx for any help. Miss those carbs

      @@justdave4972 make sure you have a set of feeler gauges and it can be done on the vehicle but it's a thousand times easier to adjust it correctly on a bench, and if you're adjustment is just a few thousandths off, it'll make a huge difference in drivability, 22reperformance.com sells oem sensors so check with them if you need to purchase one, and make sure you match it to the correct part number that's on your old tps

      @@theman9764 ok so took my Pepe on a little night crawl out. And of coarse had couple little idiots try and do a bump car jackin.. lol. But I guess I owe them a little bit. Because while waiting for the PoPo to come tow their car away I decided to play with valve. So moved it to about center and backed idle screw up a pinch. An my little beast was all nice and happy. Everything evened out. And back to shifting without a clutch,, only issues now except its still idling
      From 1k to 1500rpms. But its incredibly smooth and almost feels nice at that. Although getting feeling might be running pinch rich or lean.. so now what now ya think break out multi meter and feeler guages..?

    What can it be?

      Does it spit and sputter or does it stall out and die? And is it an auto or manual trans?

      @@cuadrinhovlogs1930 could be a number of things, possible clogged fuel filter that is overloading the fuel pump, could be a bad fuel pump, distributor could be crapping out, AFM could be getting stuck closed, TPS could be faulty, there's 3 things an engine needs to run- fuel, air, spark. When it dies, try to figure out which one it's not getting and go from there, the easiest one to check for is spark, and if it's an automatic, there's a chance the torque converter is locking up causing the engine to stall at lower speeds, but it all depends on what is actually causing the engine to die

      @@theman9764 I have Toyota Pickup 1994 manual trans. Have similar issue. Been stored away for 3 years. Now starting to drive it again. Rough idle, and hiccups while driving, sometimes dies at a stop light. But I can easily start it up again, but gets rough idle still... The hiccup (hesitation) during driving (when I have foot on gas pedal) feels like it will just stall/die on me while driving as well... The repair shop replaced cap and rotor, but still no difference... Next, I plan to change spark plugs... do I need to change spark plug wires too? Air filter looks clean. I poured in Seafoam into the gas tank still waiting to drive it a few days for that to go thru the fuel system to clean up all the gunk from being left unused for 3 years...

    • @theman9764
      @theman9764  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@be236 if it sat for a couple years, there's a good chance the fuel is bad, you need to drop the fuel tank and inspect the pump, hanger, and hoses for damage, if it had ethanol blend fuel in it, then it needs drained and cleaned out, replace the fuel filter while you're at it, check the intake boot for tears on the underside, and make sure the AFM door is swinging with little resistance, and inspect the idle air control motor for carbon buildup, there's so many things on older toyota trucks that can cause running issues, it's always difficult to pinpoint exact problems, a factory service manual can be your best friend with diagnosing problems
