    Found your video after I figured it out too. I think you are exactly right to do test #3 first get the infinity ohms by rotating the TPS body. After that all the other readings worked

    Thanks for the video! I am sure this will help a lot of people.
    It's easier to adjust it when the throttle body is on the bench. The two TPS adjusting screws are hard to get to with a screwdriver when the throttle body is mounted. Harbor Freight sells an eight piece right angle screwdriver set that will make it easier to adjust the TPS when the throttle body is mounted.

    I tried this test as well. Good that you did a vid on it. I also agree that the #3 test should have been the first test then proceed with the remaining test. I did the same with the clips and they help alot. Keeps your hands free to adjust the TPS and throttle. Great vid.

    This helped me a lot and I have a suggestion that people can also use to use the probes on the tiny terminals. Anyway you can make a lead wire with a spade female terminal that is normally used for speaker wires. One reference u could use are the two small speakers by the glove box and left to the steering wheel . Those wires have the same connectors that fit perfectly on the pins. Also I happened to have a push button switch plug that I was going to use to activate the horn and broke the plastic housing off to get access to the wire and connectors, just a last minute kinda thing . Also if you have a downward pointing TPS orientation type like mentioned on the type up from crawler , there’s not alot room for error I found with the recommended oem parts . I had one that I purchased online and it was orientated downward but it took alot to test and get the proper readings . I’m sure there might be more to it from vehicle to vehicle and wear and tear . I’m interested if anyone else had the same experience

    • @gatzbravo
      @gatzbravo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With that suggestion I’m looking for one also . I removed the upper intake manifold to clean it and buttoned everything back and as soon as I energized the fuel pump gas leaked from the cold start union bolt where the copper crush washers are. Do these need to be replaced each time the banjo bolts are removed?

    Hello Tubejim,
    toyota corolla 2000.
    I did not see you open throttle and close the throttle for reading in ohms. My grd wire 0.1v; signal wire 12.36; 5v reference wire 1.67v.
    I back probed all 3 wire while opening and closing throttle flap 0 response on throttle resistor.
    Disconnected the connector ohmed the ground and the signal wire middle ohm reading is 1.814 ohms. open/close throttle ohm stayed the same.
    What I learned from is how to make adjustments to the flap. If you can tell me is this a defective throttle it would help me .
    Respectfully,

    What exactly did you have your multimeter set on? Mine for Ohms has settings for 200, 2,000, 20k, 200k and 2000

    • @tubejim101
      @tubejim101  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You set the meter just below what ever value your going to read. So if your going to read a 25,000 ohm value, you would set your meter to 20K. You could have it at 2k, or 200k, but your going to have a harder time figuring out your values, unless you understand converting between, ohms, kilo ohms, and mega ohms.

    Hi, great video. I am going to remove/clean TB and adjust TPS regardless, but I thought I'd ask a theoretical question to see what you might think. So I am getting a lean fuel mixture causing pinging/knocking and I have eliminated other causes but not all...yet. My question is do you think an improperly adjusted TPS (Assuming all other air ,throttle, injectors, etc are set and working correctly) could cause the ECM to interpret a lower throttle position and therefore result in less fuel being injected causing a lean mixture?

    • @tubejim101
      @tubejim101  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      TPS being off is going to cause your engine to not get the correct fuel. If your getting pining/knock, I would suspect your knock sensor. Also check your timing if your getting ping/knock.

    Hey Jim great video . Here’s what’s going on with my 1991 Toyota Pickup . It will start up and idle. As soon as you give it gas it Boggs down and dies. I can drive it down the road and as long as the gas peddle doesnt go down all the way it’s fine. So I checked the engine codes and it said that is was tps. Went and bought one and it wouldn’t even start up . Took the new one off and put the old one back on and it starts but again same problem. I’m confused . Any help?

    • @tubejim101
      @tubejim101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Setting the TPS is something you will have to do, even if you buy a new one. After you set the TPS, check/set your timing. If you have the 22re, you will set the timing at the 5 mark.

    • @douglasvaughn9349
      @douglasvaughn9349 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      tubejim101 so it still could be a bad tps I just installed the new one incorrectly?

    • @tubejim101
      @tubejim101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Installing it easy. Setting it is tricky. If you set the infinite ohms first, most likely, everything else will be set too.

    • @douglasvaughn9349
      @douglasvaughn9349 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      tubejim101 so I assume my original is bad? Even though it idles?

    • @tubejim101
      @tubejim101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the ohms are out of range, at the different feeler gauge settings, then it is bad. The TPS changes the ohms at different positions, and feeds the info to the computer. That is how the computer decides how much fuel to inject. So if you do not set the TPS correctly, your computer is getting bad info, and not giving the correct fuel amount. It could idle fine, but no power when you step on the peddle. When mine was set wrong, it would idle kind of fast, but when I drove, it felt like my clutch was slipping. Now that mine is set correct, the truck is peppy.

There is no in between infinity and 10000. Its a brand new tps from Toyota dealer and the reason I put the new one on is because when I tested the old one it did the exact same thing with test 2. So it's not a bad sensor from the factory because the one I took off was probably 30 years old so it's not like they both came from the same defective batch.
